The Rules:

The Golden Rule:
This is a game. Everyone who signs up to play must be considerate of each other, never get personal, and focus on having fun. Once the game starts, having signed up is a commitment: inactivity is just as inconsiderate as rude comments.

The Standard Rules:
1. No communication between players outside of the game thread or shared QTs at any time. This includes passing references, jokes, or cases in other games or threads, whether in context or not.
2. If the game thread is locked, do not post. If you are unsure if something is locked, ask the mod by PM.
3. Direct or verbatim quoting of mod-provided information (including QT opening and closing times) is strictly forbidden. Paraphrasing is okay.
4. Actions with instructions that do not specify a game state will be resolved in the order they are received.
5. All night actions must be submitted within 36 hours of day ending.
6. Players must post once every 24 hours.
7. Do not edit or delete posts, ever. If you need to clarify or correct something, post again.
8. Invisible text, font size less than 10, and spoiler tags are not allowed.
9. Cryptography is not allowed.
10. The time between an exile being reached and a flip being provided is called twilight. All players may continue posting during this time, including the exiled player.
11. Dead players may not post in thread or QT, except their Role QT. An exiled player is not "dead" until a flip has been provided.
12. Personal multimedia, such as video or audio recordings, are not allowed in the game thread.

The Voting Rules:
1. Votes should be in this format: Vote: Playername. Unambigiuous nicknames are acceptable, or any string that uniquely identifies a user. Note that the point of voting is, in fact, unambiguity, and attempting to make it unclear to other players (or, of course, mods) which user you are voting for is very ill-advised.
2. Unvotes should be in this format:
unvote or Unvote: Playername.
3. Unvotes are not required if changing your vote from one player to another.
4. You may
vote: no exile.
5. Exiles occur when a simple majority (rounded up) of living players is reached. Once reached, an exile cannot be undone.
6. If a majority lynch is not reached by the Day's deadline, no lynch occurs.

The Rest:
1. Bold, limegreen text is reserved for the mod. Players may not use it.
2. If you have an issue or problem with the game, please PM the Mod. Do not post complaints in the game thread.
3. Mods make mistakes - please point them out gently. If they can be corrected, they will. If irreversible, they will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
4. If a mod error disadvantages one faction greatly, the game may be called off.
5. Ask all questions and make all requests directly to the Mod via PM. Questions deemed as "universal" (defined as questions for which the answers should be available to all players) will be requested to be re-posted in the Game Thread and answered there.
6. Players may request prods on other players if they have not posted in 24 hours. Players are subject to replacement or modkill after one prod.
7. All rule violations will be dealt with according to their severity, as determined by the mod.
8. Each player will receive their own QT, regardless of role. Don't quote from it.
9. If the game goes on for 3 days and 3 nights without a lynch or nightkill, town wins.

Deadlines:
1. Days will last seven IRL days.
2. Nights will last between 36 and 48 hours.

3. Direct or verbatim quoting of mod-provided information is strictly forbidden. Paraphrasing is okay. The exception is anything the MOD posts in the openly public Game Thread.
4. Actions with instructions that do not specify a game state will be resolved based on the order they were received.
5. All night actions must be submitted within 24 hours of day ending.
6. Players must post at least once every 24 hours.
7. Do not edit or delete posts, ever. If you need to clarify or correct something, post again.

11. Dead players may not post in thread or QT, except their Role QT. A lynched player is not "dead" until a flip has been provided.
12. Personal multimedia, such as video or audio recordings, are not allowed in the game thread.

The Voting Rules:
1. Votes should be in this format: Vote: Playername. Unambiguous nicknames are acceptable if they are already in common use. Your vote may not be counted if it cannot be picked up by an automated vote counter.
2. Unvotes should be in this format: unvote.
3. Unvotes are not required if changing your vote from one player to another.
4. You may vote: no lynch.
5. Lynches occur when a simple majority (rounded up) of living players is reached. Once reached, a lynch cannot be undone.
6. While I will do my best to count all votes the first time through, the best way to ensure your vote is not missed is by giving it a separate line of text in the post.
   Example Post:
      Jimmy is skummy.
      Vote: Jimmy
      Others should vote Jimmy.

The Rest:
1. The lime green text color and the purple text color are reserved for the Mods. Players may not use it, or anything that looks similar. To avoid confusion, please remove mod color if quoting the mod's posts.
5. Ask all questions and make all requests directly to the Mod via PM or in your Role QT. Questions deemed as "universal" (defined as questions for which the answers should be available to all players) will be requested to be re-posted in the Game Thread and answered there.
6. A prod may be requested in the game thread by any player, after a player has gone 24 hours without posting in the game thread. Players are subject to replacement or Mod Killed after one prod.
7. All rule violations will be dealt with according to their severity, as determined by the mod.
8. Each player will receive their own QT, regardless of role. Please use your best judgment when phrasing from your personal QT. If you are unsure whether it is allowed, please ask the MOD in your QT.
9. If the game goes on for 3 days and 3 nights without a lynch or night kill, town wins.

Deadlines:
1. Days will last 7 IRL days, though this will be adjusted for weekends and holidays.
2. Nights will last sometime between 36 and 48 hours. Night actions are due 35 hours after game end.
3. Twilight will last 6 hours or until all players have checked in, whichever comes first. Any post in the main game thread or a qt constitutes a check-in. If you have an action that can occur during twilight, you may provisionally post your action in your personal qt during the day by posting Twilight Action: action command. If the action is invalid for whatever reason, it will automatically fail and not count against you. Otherwise, it will occur immediately at the start of twilight.

Mafia Game Threads / BM29: Bud Idea Mafia (MAFIA WIN!)

Bud Idea Mafia

Player list:

1. Glooble
2. MiX
3. Awaclus
4. WestCoastDidds
5. LaLight
6. raerae
7. shraeye
8. Joseph2302
9. Galzria
10. pubby
11. cayvie
12. arishipshape

comod: joth

Setup:

In continuing with the "B[vowel]d idea mafia" trend I thought of an idea that would be pretty bastardly but also hopefully fun. It

The setup will be completely secret, but it should be a game that's fun for the players and fun for the mod. I hope y'all like it! 13 players is a minimum for the game to work (I guess it could work with 12) but it can house more if we want it to.

Sample Role PM

The town faction in this game is called Town. This is a sample town Role PM:

You are a Vanilla Townie. You have no special powers. Your weapon is your vote. You win when all threats to the town are eliminated or no one can prevent the same.

Flavor

may or may not occur. It will be written in lime green italics and will have no bearing on actual game mechanics or game state.

This game will start when is convenient for everyone, but not until my christmas break starts, which is next Thursday.

Rules

The standard rules of mafia apply, with the following specifics:

1: Day 1 will be 5 days, each day after that will be 7 days until there are 6 or fewer players left, in which case the days will return to 5 day deadlines. Nights will be longer than 36 hours and shorter than 48 hours, action deadline is 35 hours after night start.
2. Prods can be requested after 24 hours of inactivity.
3. If no majority is reached by deadline, the day will end without a lynch.
4. The mod color is lime green.
5. The game can be silly, but please respect the basic integrity i.e. don't post when the thread is locked, post a QT link, talk about the game outside the game, etc, etc.

The win conditions for Town and Mafia are as follows:

Town:
You win when all threats to Town have been killed and there is at least 1 townsperson alive.

Mafia: You win when you control half the Town and there is at least 1 Mafia member alive or nothing can stop this from happening

Variants and Fan Cards / A Debt - drawer

Cardname
Take 2D
At the start of your next turn, +1 Card per D you have
--
This is gained to your hand (instead of your discard pile)
Night - Duration $3-3D

I came up with this card just off the top of my head. The obvious use for this is +5 cards at the start of your next turn, but you also start with 5D. Do you think it would be fun? What would be the right cost for this?

If you are unsure if something is locked, ask the mod in your QT.
3. Direct or verbatim quoting of mod-provided information is strictly forbidden. Paraphrasing is okay.
4. All players will receive a personal QT should they wish to record their thoughts or communicate with the mod (I believe this is beneficial to the game as a whole, particularly postgame analysis).  However (due largely to weight of public opinion) it will NOT be allowed to quote directly from QTs.  It is also not allowed to specifically ask about the content of another player's QT or otherwise encourage them to discuss it.  This rule is obviously subject to abuse, so I ask players to do their best to stick to the spirit of the rule.
5. Actions with instructions that do not specify a game state will be resolved in the order they are received.
6. All night actions must be submitted within 35 hours of day ending, unless otherwise specified.
7. Players must post once every 24 hours.
8. Do not edit or delete posts, ever. If you need to clarify or correct something, post again. This includes posts in QTs.
9. Invisible text, font size less than 10, and spoiler tags are not allowed.
10. Cryptography is not allowed.
11. The time between a lynch being reached and a flip being provided is called twilight. All players may continue posting during this time, including the lynched player.
12. Dead players may not post in thread or any shared QT. A lynched player is not "dead" until a flip has been provided.
13. Personal multimedia, such as video or audio recordings, are not allowed in the game thread.

The Voting Rules:
1. Votes should be in this format: vote: Playername. Unambigiuous nicknames are acceptable.
2. Unvotes should be in this format: unvote or Unvote: Playername.
3. Unvotes are not required if changing your vote from one player to another.
4. You may vote: no lynch.
5. Lynches occur when a simple majority (rounded up) of living players is reached. Once reached, a lynch cannot be undone.
6. If there is no majority by the end of the day, the day will end in a no lynch.

The Rest:
1. Bold, lime green text is reserved for the Mod. Players should strive to avoid similar-looking text.
5. Ask all questions and make all requests directly to the Mods via PM. Questions deemed as "universal" (defined as questions for which the answers should be available to all players) will be requested to be re-posted in the Game Thread and answered there.
6. Prods may be requested after 24 hours without posting in the game thread. Players are subject to replacement or modkill after one prod.
7. All rule violations will be dealt with according to their severity, as determined by the mods.
8. Players with roles can send orders either in the QT or by PM, but QT is the preferred medium.

Deadlines:
1. Days have 2 possible durations:
   a. If it is Day 1, or 6 or less people are alive, days will last 7 IRL days.
   b. Otherwise, days are 10 IRL days.
2. Nights will last somewhere between 36 and 48 hours, depending on mod availability. The night action deadline is always 35 hours after day's end.

The game works like this: At the beginning of the game, each player gets a Card, which determines their Role, and their Alignment. There are three possible Alignments: Villager, Werewolf, and Tanner. The Villagers win if a Werewolf is lynched during day (or, if there are no Werewolves, the Villagers win if no one is lynched); the Werewolves win if a Werewolf is not lynched during the day, and the Tanner wins if they are lynched.

The game is divided into three phases, Night, Day, and Lynch. During Night, Roles complete their special actions (if they have one), and Werewolves learn who their partner(s) are. The thread is locked during the Night phase. Once all Roles have completed their actions, Day phase begins. During Day, players discuss and debate about who the Werewolves could be. Players in the Villager team try to figure out who the Werewolves are, and Werewolves try to spread confusion and get a Villager lynched. Once the Day deadline has passed, the thread is locked again and the Lynch phase begins. Each player PMs me 1 vote, which they can change up until deadline. Once deadline has passed, I will reveal who voted for whom, and the player with the most votes will be lynched. In the case of a tie, each player with the most votes is lynched (so there can be more than 1 lynch). However, if every player is tied at 1 vote, then no players will be lynched. If there is at least 1 Werewolf lynched, the Villagers win, otherwise the Werewolves win. If all of the Werewolves are in the center, however, the Villagers only win if no players are lynched.

Beware, however--because of certain Roles, you may not have the same Card at the beginning of Day then you did during the Night! Because of that, you might not even have the same Alignment as you did during Night! No player (exceptions listed below) gets to know if their Card has been switched or not.

Here are the possible Cards. There are always 3 more Cards than there are players, because the 3 unused Cards are set "in the center."

(4+ players)
Werewolf
Werewolf
Robber
Insomniac
Drunk
Hunter
Villager
(5+ players)
Replace the Villager with a Mason
Mason
(6+ players)
Troublemaker
(7+ players)
Tanner
(8 players)
Seer

Here are the Role powers and PMs:

If both Werewolves are not in the center, they receive this PM:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf. You are a Werewolf. Your partner Werewolf is [playername].

You win if no Werewolves are lynched. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

If one Werewolf is in the center, and the other one is in the game, the Werewolf receives this PM:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf. You are a Werewolf.

You don't have a partner; you are a Lone Wolf! During the Night, you may look at one of the Cards in the center. Do this by sending me a PM telling me whether you would like to look at Card 1, 2, or 3.

You win if no Werewolves are lynched. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

Robber:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf. You are the Robber.

During the Night, you may choose one player to switch Cards with. They will become whatever Card you had, and you will become whatever they were. You will get to know what Card you become.

You win if at least 1 Werewolf is lynched, or, if all Werewolves are in the center, you win if there is a no lynch. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

Insomniac:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf. You are the Insomniac.

You have no special actions during the Night, however, at the very end of the Night, you will learn what Card you have at that point.

You win if at least 1 Werewolf is lynched, or, if all Werewolves are in the center, you win if there is a no lynch. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

Drunk:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf. You are the Drunk.

During the Night, you must choose one Card in the center to switch your Card with. Do this by sending me a PM stating if you'd like to switch with Card 1, 2, or 3. You do not get to see what your new Card is.

You win if at least 1 Werewolf is lynched, or, if all Werewolves are in the center, you win if there is a no lynch. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

Hunter:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf. You are the Hunter.

You have no special Night powers. However, if you are the target of the lynch during Lynch, the person you are voting for will also be lynched.

You win if at least 1 Werewolf is lynched, or, if all Werewolves are in the center, you win if there is a no lynch. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

Villager:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf. You are a Villager. You have no special powers.

You win if at least 1 Werewolf is lynched, or, if all Werewolves are in the center, you win if there is a no lynch. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

Mason, if both are not in the center:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf. You are a Mason. Your partner Mason is [playername].

You win if at least 1 Werewolf is lynched, or, if all Werewolves are in the center, you win if there is a no lynch. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

Mason, if one is in the game, and one is in the center:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf. You are a Mason. You are partnerless.

You win if at least 1 Werewolf is lynched, or, if all Werewolves are in the center, you win if there is a no lynch. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

Troublemaker:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf, [playername]! You are the Troublemaker.

During the Night, you may choose two players (NOT including yourself) to switch their Cards. Do this by PMing me the names of the players you wish to switch. They will NOT learn what their new Cards are.

You win if at least 1 Werewolf is lynched, or, if all Werewolves are in the center, you win if there is a no lynch. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

Tanner:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf. You are the Tanner.

You have no special powers. However, you hate your job so much that you only win if you get lynched. The Villagers may win with you if a Werewolf is lynched as well, but the Werewolves may never win if you are lynched. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

Seer:

Quote
Welcome to One Night Ultimate Werewolf, [playername]! You are the Seer.

During the Night, you may choose to either:

Look at a player's Card. Do this by PMing me the name of the player, and I will PM you what Card they have.
OR
Look at two of the center Cards. Do this by PMing me which two of Cards 1, 2, or 3 you'd like to look at.

You win if at least 1 Werewolf is lynched, or, if all Werewolves are in the center, you win if there is a no lynch. Please /confirm by replying to this message.

Deadlines are as follows:
Night lasts 24 hours
Day lasts 48 hours.
Lynch lasts 24 hours.

Night Actions are resolved in this order:

1. If there is only one Werewolf, the Lone Wolf gets to look at a center Card.
2. The Seer gets to see a player's Card OR two center Cards
3. The Robber switches their Card with another player's Card.
4. The Troublemaker switches two players' Cards.
5. The Drunk switches their Card with a center Card.
6. The Insomniac learns which Card they have.

Variants and Fan Cards / Making Curses Worse
« on: September 08, 2016, 04:23:27 pm »
Had this idea (in the RBCI, actually):

Hex - Action - $5
Each other player gains a curse. Put this on the Hex mat.
--
If this is on the Hex mat at the end of the game, curses are worth 1 VP less.

The hex mat is universal, and hexes don't return to your deck at the end of the game.

The card is just there to show the concept. What do you think?

6. All night actions must be submitted within 47 hours of day ending, unless otherwise specified.
7. Players must post once every 24 hours.
8. Do not edit or delete posts, ever. If you need to clarify or correct something, post again.

6. Lynch rules vary by the number of players alive.  With 10 or more players alive, the player with the most votes at the end of the day will be lynched.  Ties are broken by coin flip.  With nine or fewer players alive, if a majority lynch is not reached by the deadline, no lynch occurs.

The Rest:
1. Bold, lime green text is reserved for the Mod. Players should strive to avoid similar-looking text.
5. Ask all questions and make all requests directly to the Mods via PM or (more preferably) in your QT.

2. Nights will last ~48 hours.

Game Reports / Scout saved the day.

Kingdom: Pearl Diver, Settlers, Cutpurse, Scout, Ill-Gotten Gains, Duke, Forum, Catacombs, Harem, Expand.
Events: Donate, Advance
Landmarks: Bandit Camp Fort, Wall.

I was building a Forum-Harem-Expand-IGG golden deck that could expand an IGG into a Province, then purchase an IGG each turn. I would have stalled, if not for scout! Because of Bandit Camp I couldn't use Gold as payload, so I had to use Harem, and I used a single Scout to draw up my Harems and the Provinces I was getting each turn. The Scout drew 3+ cards each time, and without it my deck would have totally stalled.

I won this game, but...it was frustrating. Most notably because of this (my thoughts in quotes):

"So I think I'll build a Fool's Gold stack, with a Loan and a Bishop for trashing."

wildaboutmn: turn 8
wildaboutmn   plays 2 Copper, 1 Fool's Gold
wildaboutmn   buys Noble Brigand

"Wha.... why are you buying Noble Brigand?! It will do nothing against me!"

mail-mi   reveals: Fool's Gold, Bishop
mail-mi   discards: Fool's Gold, Bishop

"Dang, he discarded my bishop."

wildaboutmn: turn 10
wildaboutmn   plays 3 Copper, 1 Fool's Gold
wildaboutmn   buys Noble Brigand
mail-mi   reveals: Fool's Gold, Bishop
mail-mi   discards: Fool's Gold, Bishop

"Okay, that's annoying. I'll grab another bishop if he's just going to keep discarding them."

wildaboutmn: turn 12
wildaboutmn   plays Noble Brigand
mail-mi   reveals: Bishop, Bishop
mail-mi   discards: Bishop, Bishop
mail-mi   gains Copper

My thoughts here can only be expressed accurately like this:

Also, my loan only hit a copper once, then hit fool's golds for the rest of the game.

So I opened 2/5, looking at my options... rebuild. ugh. I hate rebuild. So, instead, I decide to go for a torturer chain. Yeah, it could be useful in helping him discard victory points, but I was able to completely shut him down. It felt good beating rebuild.

2.4 Deadlines will be determined by rolling 2d6 at the beginning of the day.
2.5 If there is no majority at deadline, a No Lynch will occur.
2.12 Days will end at deadline, not necessary at lynch. There can be up to 3 lynches in one day. Lynched players will flip when lynched and may post up until deadline.

Also, no lying, I promise. This is not SoC again.

I wasn't really paying attention to what my opponent was doing, until he had 5 provinces to my single one. It looked like he was playing a BM of some sort from what I saw.

Anyway, I thought this was a really good board for a Menagerie engine, with Horse Traders discarding, Count for trashing, and Merchant Guild for payload.

Then comes turn 15. I'm down, with one province to his five. So what to do? Buy all the duchies, that's what we do! I have enough buys and coin tokens for 5 duchies, getting 10 coin tokens back and now I'm only down 9 points. He buys a single duchy, so he's up by 12. The next turn, with all the duchies in my deck, my engine is starting to falter. That's when Minion and Horse Traders save me. Discard excess duchies for +$3 and another buy, and I was able to mulligan my hand for more menageries and money. I end the game that turn by buying the last two provinces and last two duchies and winning 39-33.

Super fun kingdom to play!

Scrying pool game. The other guy goes for money, so what's the best payload? Pirate ship! I got them all the way up to $10, but only got to use the payload once because I was able to pile out the rest of the provinces on the turn I did. But can you deny it Robz? What would you have done here, seeing the other guy go for money-ish?
