I actually designed Discovery to work in tandem with Scout. Scout gets you a great number of Victory cards into your hand and Discovery profits from many Victory cards. I thought about a Scout/Great Hall/Storeroom mix before, but this had too much self-synergy. The current version makes Scout very attractive.

Ruined Brick
Types: Treasure/Curse
Cost: 0
When you play this, take <1>
Worth -1 VP
--
When you buy this, gain a card costing up to $1 per card in the Ruined Brick pile.
--
In games using this, at the start of each Buy phase the current player must reveal his hand and play all Treasure cards in any order of his choice.

It would probably be better if it were also an Action that you had to play if it's in your starting hand.  Er, worse.  You know what I mean.  And then you have to play it if it's in your hand at the start of your Buy phase.

I realized that this card goes nuts with Watchtower or Trader. It has to be a on-gain effect.

Brick
Action-Treasure-Victory
Cost: $1
Thematic synergy with catapult.

Actual synergy with Ambassador-Tribute.  Who doesn't want a tribute of bricks?

It also turns Ironworks into a Peddler with a penalty.

Don't forget the synergy with Hoard.
In combination with Storyteller and Library Brick is effectively a Great Hall without the VP.
This card is also loved by Vagrant/Scout/Scrying Pool/Magpie and Storeroom/Secret Chamber.
Last, but not least, this may protect against Swindler, Thief, Knights, Saboteur and similar.

Pawn Shop
Action
Cost: $2

You may trash two cards from your hand.  For each card trashed of each given type, do the following, but at most once each:

..Action, +1 Action
..Treasure, +$1
..Victory, +1 Card

This is not even bad, great for trashing Copper and Estates.

You may trash a Pawn from your hand.
If you do: Gain a Duchess, a Watchtower, a Bishop or a Knight to your hand.

Thanks King Leon! It's not as much that your name/art isn't accepted, but that I would like to have both cards. I tend not to have two fan cards with the same name and as LFN and 461.weavile already have a card named this I just prefered an alternative.

The art looks great, and I like the parraleslism between Charcoal Burner and Silver Smelter.

Thank you. I actually thought about Woodcutter, since the card is a Woodcutter variant, which can refine weak Wood (Copper) to better Charcoal (Silver).

409
Tinker
-Needs art, and a rename b/c of a card in Enterprise. Possibly Invent?

If Tinker is not accepted, I would suggest Charcoal Burner (Art: Tom Roberts)

I love the first, but do you have the artist's name?

A Google Image search shows that it is a painting by Nikolaos Gyzis.

Same result with TinEye ... Just you were a few seconds faster ;)

Assuming I Overlord a Crown to crown a Black Market and buy a Mint or a Mandarin. Is Black Market still played a second time although Overlord has left play and is no Crown anymore?

This is one outtake of my fan cards with its original name. This card is designed to work with Great Hall, Nobles, Scout, Vagrant and Scrying Pool, but every single card of them is better than itself. It would be ironically too good if it costs $4. Enjoy.
Noble Scout
Cost: $5 - Action - Victory
+ 1 Action
Reveal the top 2 cards of your deck. Put the revealed Victory cards into your hand. Put the other cards on top of your deck in any order.

Worth 1 VP

I don't see this being worth more than $4 if it only Scouts two cards.  Great Hall only costs $3, and Scouting two cards shouldn't really average any better than that on that many boards, even if it can Scout itself.  You'd need Victory cards that make money and a way to trash everything to make this reliable, but with that much effort, I would be happy leaving it at $4.

Unless you made it cost $5 because it has to suck because it's a Scout variant.  But Noble Brigand was just a Thief that wasn't supposed to suck as much...

I have a feeling that that tacking a VP on full 4-cards Scout wouldn't push it too far to be worth 5, but I'd love to try it.

I'd go as far as to say that a full 4-cards Scout with a VP and Victory type still would be nowhere near OP at $4.

I mean, it could never be printed due to the 'strictly better' thing, but still...

How about this? (ignoring the title of this thread)

At least, this is Great Hall. Sometimes, Laboratory.

Thank you for all those ideas. I tried to revive Noble Scout and here it is:

Noble Scout is now a usable card for alt VP decks. It is very similar to Nobles, easier to get, but less reliable. I like it.

Ruined Border Village

When you gain this, gain a card costing more than this.

Neat, a Colony or a Platinum and a junk card for $0. This is actually worth to buy it.

Ah yes, I need to fix Missionary. But Thanksgiving does need the "To your deck", I don't know why you want to omit it. And missionary only would gain the colony, if you notice the "instead:.

The term "gain ... to your deck" is ambiguous. You either mean "gain ..." or "gain ..., putting them on top your deck in any order". If you mean the latter, I misunderstood the text.

I also noticed the "instead", it's correct that you end up with a Colony only, but you actually gain each of these cards which may trigger on-gain effects, like Missionary's one. A fix would be:

"... put a card from the supply on your discard pile costing exactly $1 more instead."

"put ... from the supply on your discard pile" is similar to "gain ...", but it does not trigger on-gain effects. Side effect: It is also protects against Possession.

Current TS template:

PM me for a game.

Thanksgiving does not need the "to your deck". I would omit it.

Missionary lacks a clause to prevent revealing it multiple times. If you gain a Curse, you can make it a Poor House, then an Estate, then a Silver, then a $4 card (e. g. Feast), then a Duchy, then a Gold, then a $7 card (e. g. Forge), then a Province, then a Platinum, then a King's Castle and then a Colony in one turn ...

Thank you for your votes to my card Tinker. This is the artwork I used for testing that card. The German name of Tinker is Kesselflicker, btw.

It's reasonably balanced, but the concept isn't for everyone.
Keeping Diadem in mind, I think that +5 Actions for $4 also would be enough. However I would prefer a Scout/Nobles variant:

Quote
Hanseatic City
Type: Action/Victory
Cost: $4

+4 Actions
Reveal the top card of your deck. If it is a Victory card, put it into your hand.

So, no debt? is this specifically for adventures or empires/adventures?
This also applies to VP tokens, as they are available in Empires.

If I understand it correctly, you can't combine mechanics of Adventures AND Empires, so if you use VP tokens or dept you may not make use of Adventures tokens or the Tavern mat.

Pepper the Moon
Event
Cost: $4

Return a Victory card from the Trash to the Supply.

I haven't laughed so hard for a long time.

Muskrats
Types: Duration (not Action)
Costs: $3
At the begin of your next turn:
+ 1 Card, Gain a Muskrats. Trash a card from your hand other than Muskrats (or reveal a hand iof all Muskrats)

When you discard this, immediately play it.

Variants and Fan Cards / Monarch cards
« on: August 21, 2016, 09:29:26 am »
This idea comes from the game Blue Moon and the Yu-Gi-Oh anime where it is called or Leadership card respectively Deck Master.

To avoid mirror matches and make different lesser used strategies more interesting each player gets a randomized Monarch card which is unique and has different abilities. The Monarchs should be balanced, so that everyone has the same chances of winning.

Examples:

Quote
Lady Valerie
Duchies cost $1 less in your turns (but never less than $0)

Quote
Lord Donald
On setup: You may replace one Copper in your deck with a Silver. If you do, turn this card face-down.
--
At the end of the game: If this card is face-up: 2 VP

Quote
Lord Matthew
When you buy a card costing $4 or more: +1 Buy

Quote
Lord David
At the end of the game: 3 VP

Quote
Lord Wei-Hwa
Once per game: You may call this in your Buy phase. If you do: + $1, + 1 Buy, turn this card face-down.
--
At the end of the game: If this card is face-up: 2 VP

Quote
Lord Miikka
Once per game. After you have played an Action card, you may call this. If you do: Play that Action card a second time, then trash it, turn this card face-down.

Seeker, $3, Action/ Attack
+1 Card. +1 Action. Each player flashes a card. If you flashed the only Action card, +1 Action. Otherwise, each other player with 4 or more cards in hand discards the flashed card.
This card is very interesting, because it is an implementation of the prisoner's dilemma. If no other player flashes an Action card, this works as a village, but if you don't flash an Action card or if you flash an Action card and at least one other player flashes an Action card (e. g. when this card would be dead in every case or if the player already has 3 or less cards in this hand) it works similar to Urchin. I like it.

My favorite card is Trinket. It is so much better than Fool's Gold. Simply line a Trinket up with another Trinket/Gold/Bank/Platinum/Harem/Province to get a massive amount of money.

I also like the idea of Share. Sure, it is almost impossible to gain them without buying them, but once bought, they can be expanded to Colonies. The victory point gaing effect is similar to Plunder's, but it this one requires Copper trashing to be really useful. Drawing multiple Shares in one hand may be a problem, especially in games where Colonies are available and you can't afford to buy them. I also like the interesting interaction with Swindler who can make whole decks unusable by swindling Shares into Colonies or vice versa.

Dividends is also quite nice. Like Share and Ill Gotten Gains it has a good synergy with Bank. It would also fit into Garden decks very well.

Overall there are many interesting cards and I love the Treasure cards at most.

424
So, I guess, the next promo will be a Landmark, so I come up with an easy one. This severely hurts Big Money and Goons, but also boosts Chapel and Mountebank.

Greed
Landmark
When scoring, -1 VP for each 2 Treasure cards you have. (Round towards zero.)

It seems that Donald hat a similar idea with Bandit Fort. His version is much more interesting, because it supports alternative treasury cards like Harem, Plunder or Bank and does not encourage to use Chapel or other Copper trashers.

Okay, here is another solution.

Alice plays Swamp Hag, Bob buys (and gains!) the last Curses. Carol will now be unaffected by any purchases.

My solution was similar:
Alice plays Swamp Hag. Bob plays Possession. Bob buys any card and gains a Curse. Possessed Alice discards the Swamp Hag.
