Schneau's Beggar article is coming up this week.  Plus an "announcement" of Dominion:Adventures for Martian rock-dwellers.  I'm reading through the others now, but any other articles any of you want to nominate?

While I was surprised and flattered to see my Beggar article get more love (especially considering I haven't been very active here lately), I unfortunately have to point out that it was already featured on the blog about 2.5 years ago. Thanks though!

Well, looks like theory didn't see this in time, so it got a second printing  :-\  :)

I just noticed that on http://riograndegames.com/Game/1285-Dominion-Adventures I got a "you may be interested in..." link to Balloon Cup:

Subtle confirmation of jsh's leek about the Hot Air Balloon card in the new expansion?

As someone whose father flies hot air balloons, I have to say: If your basket is rocking that far from vertical, you are in some serious trouble. Like, a tornado.

I was somewhat surprised to see Dominion on the Humble Bundle. I would have thought MF would want to release their new code before getting the spike of demand I'm sure they'll see from it. Maybe they're low on funds and are using it to bring in a few extra bucks to get them through to the mobile release? It seems like a gamble, since if the site doesn't work well they could end up with a lot of unhappy folks.

Hope this hasn't been done...

This is not the greatest card in the world..

It's just a Tribute.

I can't believe you put Bishop this far down. That might be in my top 10 card arts, and definitely top 20. The colors are just fantastic.

Otherwise, I agree for the most part, though I think Militia is uglier than Smithy, and I'd put Develop around middle of the pack.

"Starting this week, every Monday AND Thursday at 8am Pacific Time, we'll be restarting servers. Let us know if you notice an improvement! " From their Facebook page.

Fast forward to December:  Starting this month, we'll be starting the server every hour on the hour.  Hopefully you'll notice some improvement!

And next February, they'll just leave the server off, leading to no crashed games and no lag!

I have to agree with e that you've underrated Wishing Well by quite a bit.

A few cards I'd expect to see soon are Remodel (the weird stained-glass shadow always looked weird to me), Hunting Party (just too dark), and Fairgrounds (so drab for something so exciting). Minion is pretty ugly, though I agree not as bad as Envoy.

Help! / Re: Slog or Ambassador?

Ambassador looks hopeless.
I don't see good enablers for Gardens either though.

I'd open Silver/Bridge and see where it goes from there.
If my opponent want to play Ambassador, then fine, I'll take gardens.
If my opponent does something else, I'll aim for golds & provinces, with some gardens backup near the end.

So you think Bridge BM can beat the Gardens deck here? I would have assumed it would be too slow, but maybe I'm wrong.
Is Bridge/BM better than Chancellor/BM? I guess Bridge enables double Silver turns sometimes, but are those better than the cycling?

I'm getting Bridge BM as slightly better than Chancellor BM based on their implementations in Dominiate.

Help! / Slog or Ambassador?

Code: [Select]
Hamlet, Ambassador, Chancellor, Woodcutter, Bridge, Gardens, Quarry, Contraband, Graverobber, Harvest
Log: http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20140622/log.5070b64ea2e6d027a23183f4.1403485598090.txt

In this game we both opened Ambassador, and ended up very sloggy with me trying to use Graverobbers to get Provinces while he hit Duchies hard for the win.

Afterward, I wondered whether a Gardens slog would be the way to go here, with Bridge, Woodcutter, and Hamlet giving +Buy. I was worried that uncontested, the Ambassador player could get something going with Bridge and Hamlet, but now that I look again I think there's just not enough draw for an engine to work.

So, would a Gardens slog be best here? If so, do you open Quarry/Woodcutter, Bridge/Woodcutter, or Bridge/Hamlet?

O.V.?

It appears to be an anagram joke, but I don't know what O.V. is either.

Original Victory? Sort of like Original Gangsta?

Forgot to say that no log was created from last game.

We played a PS mirror and both ended up with worthless PSs and no treasure. liopoil followed it up with a Duchy/Estate rush, and I grabbed 2 Gold and a Silver and was able to sneak out 3 Provinces for the win. Here's the log.

liopoil and I just played a game, and I smoked him with PS 42-21 with 7 Provinces. There's just not enough draw for Baron+Golem, and I could easily get my PS to $4-5

Something with golem, baron, and loan will probably beat pirate ship.

Agreed. And workshop helps a lot since a bunch of parts are $4 and will fill you deck with non-treasure

I think you guys are missing the point. You need to hit 2 Barons with 2 Estates in hand to get to a Province. That's almost impossible to do consistently without Golem, and you're going to need quite a few Golems to do it consistently. I'm guessing if you replace Secret Chamber with Pirate Ship, a deck with PS beats Golem/Baron handily. I'll be in Outpost for a bit if anyone wants to try.

I just played this incredibly boring board vs HvBoedefeld:

Code: [Select]
Hamlet, Secret Chamber, Loan, Village, Workshop, Baron, Remake, Talisman, Golem, Border Village
We decided that best here is probably Baron BM, or maybe even straight BM.

But, I'm posting it here because I think if you replaced almost any of these cards with Pirate Ship, it would be almost necessary to go for Pirate Ship.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: New Promo at Origins...

I was curious how many Kingdom cards Prince does work with, considering there are quite a few it either flat out doesn't really help (Durations), can't work on (Potion-cost), or require cost reducers (cards costing more than $4). Here are my numbers, which might be slightly off:

Durations (8 cards)
Potion-cost cards (10 cards)
One-Shots (Embargo, Island, Feast, Treasure Map, Pillage, Prince)
Non-Actions (23 cards)
Cards costing greater than $4 - requires cost reducer (83 cards, including 19 from above categories)

Total Kingdom Cards you can Prince: 206 - 111 = 95 cards you can normally Prince (46% of Kingdom cards)

There are also some non-Kingdom cards you can Prince:
Necropolis
Ruins (5 cards)
Mercenary (Madman doesn't work)
Prizes (4 cards)

Total: 10 cards

Even though I'm excited to try out Prince, I am slightly disappointed how many cards it just doesn't work with. And this doesn't even include some cards that would almost always be bad cards to Prince (many forced trashers and Ambassador).

Any idea of when the new promo will be up and running? Sounds exotic from what I've heard.

That sounds about right.  I also heard it's an 'upgraded' Harem of sorts.

As in Bank? Or King's Court?

Game Reports / Cartographer helps top deckers
« on: June 04, 2014, 03:14:33 pm »

Code: [Select]
Vineyard, Hermit, Masquerade, Familiar, Herald, Talisman, Cartographer, Mystic, Soothsayer, Wharf
http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20140604/log.5070b64ea2e6d027a23183f4.1401908216708.txt

In this game against Geronimoo, he goes for pretty standard Masq/Wharf BM, and I decide to try for an interesting engine relying on Herald as the only "village". Cartographer shines here, since it allows me to line up my Heralds and Mystics to get the most out of them. I choose to start with a Potion, hitting Familiars early with the plan of using them for Vineyards late. I'm not sure if this is the right path, since Masq can send back the Curses, but I think it is since I end up cursing faster than he can trash, giving me time to build up my engine. Even a mid-game Talisman is nice here, allowing me to grab a bunch of Heralds at once to feed the Vineyards and ensure I don't slow too much while greening.

Geronimoo ended up resigning after 13 turns, probably as much because of my slow turns (sorry!) as because of the state of the game. Things were slow duesince I had to figure out how to put back Cartographered cards to make them line up with my Heralds and Mystics properly. It's complicated when you play a Herald which reveals and plays a Mystic and you have to remember which card to name!

I definitely don't think I played this board perfectly, but the engine definitely seems like the way to go here. Lots of fun interactions in this one!
