The earlier unbounded loops in the linked thread are instructive; the Crown/Mandarin trick in majiponi's loop was found by ephesos, for example, and the core of the Bonfire/Ambassador loop was the first solution given to the original challenge, provided by florrat.

I think in some sense the PSA solution of KC/Overlord/Trasher/Lurker melds parts of both into a very efficient and usable beast - Crown/Mandarin is built on removing the Overlord/BoM from play in order to reuse it (which self-trashing also does), while Bonfire/Ambassador is built on regaining all your played cards from the trash.

Awesome, thanks Qvist. (If I had known you were making one, I would have pointed out the game ID for the perfect hand on turn 2, to save you all those clicks...)

This kills a lot of otherwise interesting puzzles, though. Banning Villa for puzzles like this is probably the simplest thing to do. (Though banning Advance and maybe Alms is probably enough, if you prefer to keep Villa open.)

Why not buy out all the colonies turn 1?

How to load my solution (1-player):
1. New table
2. Set min and max players to 1
3. Create table
4. Advanced options->load game 12539340, decision 0
5. Play game

(credit to qvist as this was based off of his solution)

But the puzzle was to only use 2 Events/Landmarks.

By my count, your setup uses 5xLurker, which means we can sneak 15xLurker into the loop (with King's Court), which lets us gain 7xOverlord and trash the 8th. We already have 2 when we start the loop, so this gets all 10 Overlords out of the supply before entering the buy phase. Once everything else has been gained, the last play of a KC'd Overlord can be a Lurker, trashing King's Court, Pixie and Lurker. This way, you can empty the supply with a single Lurker being the only card you bought.

Only 12x Lurker; one needs to stay in the supply for Overlord to copy in the loop.

I'm a little tired atm, so my reading and counting skills are probably not the greatest, but I think you only trash Overgrown Estate and a Villa; so this means you can put the entire supply into your deck by only buying a single Lurker and leaving a single non-supply card in the trash.

I find this very neat and pleasing.

Yep, that should be doable.

I do puzzles on paper, you play them out. I suspect that makes me inclined to maximize elegance and nifty-ness, and you inclined to minimize the amount of clicking since you bear the costs of the solution. Today I learned [...].

I actually did this on paper (or a text editor on computer), and then played it out (primarily because cool factor and also to catch errors). It's just that my goal was different - proving it could be done at all, and then with only two events. Some consideration was also given to reducing the starting hand luck needed (to make it realistic to play out), though I eventually ended up with the worst possible starting hand luck required. Maybe it can be improved by someone, I just haven't seen it yet.

I consider the other optimization and elegance as an exercise left to the reader. ;)

Yeah, once I got it done with two events, I got tired of trying to optimize the loop. The Pixie loop takes way more plays than the Death Cart loop, since we are effectively netting a Silver, a Will-o'-Wisp, and another card costing up to $4 each 9 plays (after the first pass through the boons). Once we have all the Will-o'-Wisps (~111 Pixie plays), we can use them to draw a big hand and play something crazy like 4xKC into 18xBr before resuming the loop, but even that only nets us 27 buys (from Bridge and Travelling Fair).

Only new idea I've had for 13. is Bard Rocks = Barack(s); it does come up on the image search, but feels like a bit of a stretch.

Just Gold Raze, then.

2. Cache Merchant

And this one does give the correct image, but looking at the title of that image tells me the intended solution is Cache Advance. (The title is actually Merchant Cash Advance, so a three card answer!)

Rules Questions / Idol Count during Resolution
« on: November 29, 2017, 09:03:19 pm »
If the count of Idols in play changes due to the Boon, can it then pass out a Curse?

I assume the answer is no, the count has already been determined ("if you then have" seems to point to the count being determined as soon as the Idol is played), but I've been wrong before.

The only example I can think of to make this happen:

Play Bridge
Play Idol
Odd number of Idols in play, Boon: The Earth's Gift - discard Copper, gain Mandarin, Idol on top of deck
Even number of Idols in play (0), Curse?

I used Ritual on Peddler once, that was nice. You just have to remember not to play any Peddlers when you decide to sac one, or it's terrible.

I think I'm out of ideas, someone else figure out the rest.

Dominion FAQ / Re: Maximum Possible VP?
« on: November 29, 2017, 06:14:15 pm »
You can go infinite with Overlord, Crown, Mandarin, Watchtower, Lurker, Raze and Monument.

Or with 5 Highways, a Goons and a Trader with Forum in the supply.

It'd be fun to troll people with this kingdom.  I mean, more fun than other trolling at least.

I came here to gain Silvers and troll kingdoms. And I'm all out of Silvers.

I mean, technically there is no rule limiting the number of Silvers in the supply, right? Play with aleph-null Silvers, go cwazy.

And all of our lives were enriched from this discussion, on a thing that totally matters in this context at all, whether or not the colloquial use of the word “infinite” in a context that literally everyone understands is technically correct or not. F.DS at its absolute finest.
Well the thread title asks for the maximum possible VP, so it seems directly relevant whether the answer is ∞ or "there is no maximum possible number of VP".

Except the post that you were disputing did not claim it was possible to gain an infinite number of VP. Only that it was possible to “go infinite”, which most(?) seem to have no problem understanding as “it’s unbounded by the rules of Dominion, and only bounded by the time it would take to physically play out and the heat death of the universe”.

I highly doubt the OP cares about whether we are using “infinite” in a strict mathematical sense or a colloquial one, nor does it matter in the slightest whether the answer is no maximum or infinite VP. At least not to this mathematician.

I'm no mathematician, but shouldn't it be aleph-null?

Are we now going to quibble over what the transfinite point value of a made-up card should be? Aleph-null is a boring and inadequate number of points to gain given the extreme unlikelihood of ever being able to trigger the buy condit... oh, right.

(With such a transcendental and complex discussion taking place, I'm just trying to keep it real.)
