Dominion General Discussion / Re: Why Peasant Will Be On My Ban List
« on: November 09, 2018, 05:59:12 pm »
Yes, I suppose I could suck with Peasant. I think I am perfectly competent with Peasant. Markus will probably have stats on me though that could prove otherwise.
I could look that up, but it would only be around 15 Peasant games that I have for you. So probably, there's not going to be anything statistically significant there - unless you really suck and lost like almost all of them.

Peasant stands out as one of the cards that favour the better player the most in my sample of logs.

If you usually beat your opponent in 60% of the games, you'll win 63.5% of the Peasant boards.
(Page also favours the better player but not as much, Chapel on the other hand makes the weaker player win more than expected.)

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Pirate Ship + Capitalism
« on: November 09, 2018, 05:19:46 am »
Yes,those were not the best boards for Pirate Ship/Capitalism. I tried to go for the rather simple thing on one and it didn't work. Treasurer makes it actually worse there because opponent can gain back the Treasures from trash (and all Treasurers at the same time).

Guardian shut it down on the other board. Small sample of course and I guess it will be more relevant on other boards - compare to Knights maybe.

The scary thing in general is that all your economy becomes vulnerable. But if you go heavily for Pirate Ships, you'll still first thin the opponent's Coppers.

Rules Questions / Re: A Couple of Buy Phase Clarifications
« on: November 06, 2018, 10:21:43 am »
I think the answers are:

1) You should be able to spend coffers before executing Storyteller (unless you've bought something, like a Storyteller played with Innovation).

2)a) You can't spend more Coffers after buying something from Black Market in the buy phase.
b) But you can play more Treasures as the rulebook talks about playing Treasures before you use the "normal" buys.

55
Black Market will enable some serious craziness as well.
We can use coffers in the Black Market now!
Good catch - that doesn't work online yet.

Dominion: Renaissance Previews / Re: CSM and Ducat

If I remember correctly, Mic didn't want anything related to the on-gain effect on the list, as this is the obvious thing that the two cards differ.
Surely it goes in the section "Ducat’s cool ability which also interacts with: Priest, Tomb, Market Square"
Yes.  8)

Maybe that has already been fixed. At least when I load that game and buy&play Hermit, it doesn't get trashed for Madman.

I haven't read about such problems today and trying preview vs bot gave me no problems.
Maybe check your advanced options that "Rated game" and "Practice game" are not ticked. It shouldn't be possible anymore to tick that and Renaissance, but maybe if you had that in the past and it got stored in the database, that's the result.

We've known what Projects look like since the start of the week.

But I don't think that it's helpful to post unwanted spoilers even if you find them. Because it potentially means that Stef has to put more effort into hiding these things - effort that would be much better spent working on other things. Or in the worst case we couldn't have these previews in the online client.

63
River's Gift can make you draw a card at the end of somebody else's turn. You don't do that when capturing the flag during an opponent's turn. (It could (would have to) be phrased "at the end of your turns" of course.)

64
And that's not even talking about the on-gain effect, which seems particularly good in the opener.  Usually I don't like to get terminal-draw/terminal in the opener because collision rates are so high.
Also opening together with a non-terminal card is much nicer if you have that Villager for emergencies: you wouldn't want to open Smithy with Page, but Silk Merchant with Page seems ok.

If you really want you can still play a rated previews game by creating your own table.

I tried exactly that last monday and it does not work. I don't remember the exact wording, something like incompatible search options.
Apparently you have to click Renaissance previews first and make it rated second on your table to not get a "conflicting rules" error.

67
In a 2-player game you should prefer to leave your opponent in the dark and only use the Villager after your opponent has discarded or not. That's similar to not playing all your Villages / other draw before playing the first Torturer.

Unless you are bluffing... make your opponent think you have another Torturer when you don't. But then, your opponent should be smart enough to realize that if you really did have another Torturer, it would be better to wait to spend the Villager until after they've made their choice. So it really just comes down to a mind game.
Ok that could work if you also play with an alt that still has a lower level.

In a multiplayer game, you could probably make some case that you signal something to the player to your left by using a Villager. Then, they take the better decision and can attack the 3rd player better, who is your fiercest opponent for first place,...

69
When specifically can you spend a Villager?

At any time during your Action phase. Any time. A-N-Y time!

Herald + Diadem sometimes make it beneficial to spend them in the middle of an action play. I wonder if this gets implemented.

The idea is to be able to spend them when playing Diadem in the action phase. And before ending the action phase when you might want to play Diadem in the buy phase or are worried about opponent's Possession.

70
Is it a bug that you can't use village tokens while you have no action cards in hand? Or that's the rule?
That does matter when playing diadem.
Did you try clicking on the icon? It may be a bug, or at least, a feature not implemented yet. The idea is to give you a way to use villagers even with no Action cards in hand, for both Diadem and Possession.

This feature is not yet implemented. See
Spending Villagers - edgecases

And believe me, you really don't want to get asked in every game to end your Action phase when you have Villagers, so that is the much better version for preview week.

You can click the icon while still having Action cards in hand to spend them.

71
Priest would have been exactly the same without the initial +$2, but with the other instructions swapped round, right?
Not if it's your last card in hand.

72
Using my log database and 24,000 games, I looked at the maximum VP gains of one player during one turn. This is the resulting distribution:

There are close to 40% of games in which no player gets more than 6VP in one turn. And in about 10% of games, one player gained more than 18VP.
I would consider this as a lower bound for games with mega turns due to resignations (early and during the mega turn) and players not maximizing their VP gains once they have a win.

There are, however, some Nocturne cards which have different names in the recently published German physical edition. It would be nice if the online cards in question could be renamed.
They are going to get the same names soon.
