That card is so underpowered.  Why would you vote for a card that will only get purchased when players are totally coerced into getting +buy?

It needs +1$, and it would still be a tough call whether to topdeck.

I dunno... Action/Coin/Buy seems like the sort of thing that could reasonably cost $3.  It's as good as a Salvager hitting Copper (trading losing one Copper for an action).  Action/Card/Buy is good enough for $3 with a reaction bonus; I think Action/Coin/Buy would be reasonable at $3 with the topdeck bonus.

So, US vs EU thing:  How many righties use their left hand for eating?  Lots (lots) of Americans, when eating meat, will use their right hand for cutting meat with a knife, then set down the fork and transfer it to their right hand.  Anyone else seen this?

New posters have to say hello in the Bot Trap forum but it's not hard.

In fact, you can probably give them specific instructions to do exactly that when they sign up!

Goko Dominion Online / Re: I'm kinda liking zaps.
« on: September 23, 2012, 02:48:20 pm »
But I quickly discovered that this was not the case.  The last match of Act 1, for example.   How can you overcome CSSSSSSDDP with CCCCCCEEEE and two zaps?  I'm sure there are boards where this is possible, particularly if the bot is using poor enough strategy.  But on this one, with this bot's script?  Has anyone done this?
I wouldn't think so! Originally act one ended with the computer having 7 copper 3 province. Kirian beat that with no zaps. I beat all but two levels with no zaps, and only needed the free zaps on two levels - I think I used three on the last level, but it gave you five. Now it gives you two and the computer has all that Silver.

Yeah, there's a huge difference between 7C3P vs. 7C3Curse, and 6S(!)1C2D1P vs. 6C4E!  Frankly, under most circumstances I think I'd rather start with 4 Curses than 3 Estates.

And I think it was actually Seaside Lv20 that I beat with no Zaps, and that was only with excellent luck and two or three tries, just to see if it could be done.

They are bots, not people. So they are going to play differently. The key is whether they are enjoyable to play against. And I for one think the AI implementation (and its continual improvement) is the most successful part of Goko Dominion.

Bots are people too!

In this case, since we're talking about "unique" mechanics (which is problematic to define in and of itself), we shouldn't worry about simple balance.  The only balance questions should be: (1) Is this mechanic overpowered at any cost? and (2) Is this mechanic useless at any cost?

OMG:

"You play dice with the gamblers for a while, and each time you get a good roll, you sneakily slide the die up your sleeve and save it for later. After a while, you remember that dice don't work the same way that cards do, and realize that what you've been doing is pretty much completely pointless."

Oh.  My.  God.

This game appears to be made of 50% Win, 50% Awesome, and 50% Amazeballs.

The online one that is.  I'd never heard of it before this post.

I'd be against substituting Coppers. I'd make Pawnshop and Aqua Vitae so much weaker.

This would be easily dealt with by changing the text of Aqua Vitae and Pawn Shop, since they're part of the expansion--much as the trashing theme makes OGE and Hovel more useful.

Trisha had to step away for a bit today. So I'll giving Goko updates as the day goes on. We're going to issue a couple of updates today and are testing the first batch on staging now.

I'll try to give you guys a heads up for when the update is coming so you know when to expect downtime. Thanks for your patience.

Welcome to the shark tank, hope you brought an asbetos diving suit. :)

Changed my thoughts om Drive my car. Talked to the owner, and am no longer mad at him.

So you're OK with him driving your car?

There are still a ton of bugs/issues/etc that people have, some of which have been listed elsewhere and multiple times.  Would it be helpful of us to list them individually on GetSatisfaction?

People will be able to form online "guilds" on Goko, and team of to defeat boss AIs against incredible odds, thus earning them valor points that can be used to buy better-looking avatars.

The question is, do you trust them to give you your money's worth? Do you pay for a defective product now in the hopes that it will be better later? For me the answer is no.

This man speaks the truth.

I might suggest that cards be posted without recommended prices.  The winner would be the card that feels coolest to the voters, without regard to cost initially.

There charging money on the beta site??

I've seen it happen in other games. There's a D&D app on Facebook where you can pay real money for stuff, even though it claims to be a beta.

That has caused some contention in the forums.

"Such-and-such didn't work."
"Relax. It's still a beta."
"Dude, I paid $10, and it still didn't work."

I wrinkled my nose at the idea of paying money for a beta. I'd be more comfortable with this, because we pretty much know what's coming up. In that D&D app, it was changing around, and people didn't know what to expect.

There's plenty of precedent.  Witness Minecraft, for instance, which had paying customers in Alpha.  Or any number of Kickstarter games, where you're basically pre-ordering.

Is there any chance we can have our preferences saved from session to session?  I've hated opening a new game and having to immediately turn off the music and sound, and set the animations to Very Fast, before I can stand to play.

I have 4 answers: Harvest, Overgrown Estate, Pearl Diver and Village
I don't know why Quarry is an honorable mention, but I definitely think Cache has to be at least an honorable mention.
And I think that Ghost Ship shouldn't be on this list.

Huh, apparently I missed OGE, though I was only looking for kingdom cards.  And you're right about Ghost Ship now that I look at it a second time... sigh.  However, Cache isn't an honorable mention, for the same reason Herbalist is one the list rather than being elsewhere.

I would love to play something and not reveal it.

Could be a bluffing card.

Gamble - $1

Put a card from your hand facedown and name a card.
Play the facedown card as if it is the named card.

Your opponent may choose to reveal your card.
If it is the named card: He discards down to 3 cards.
If it is not: You discard down to 3 cards.

Other variations possible, but you get the gist.

I always hated that game.

OK, a second hint:  The cost of the card is important.

I totally agree on the apples to apples front. That game is atrocious.

Indeed.  Cards Against Humanity improves on it, but only marginally.

General Discussion / Re: So M:TG is Turing-complete...
« on: September 20, 2012, 05:52:10 pm »
Essentially, a Turing-complete machine is equivalent to a Turing machine, and a Turing machine can run any program that requires no user input other than the initial state and the program itself.  For instance, one could run a Dominion simulator on a Turing machine, as once the program is in motion, no further input is required.

Actually programming a Turing machine is incredibly difficult for all but the most simple tasks.  See for instance:  http://www.google.com/doodles/alan-turings-100th-birthday
