I really hope they remove the 50-player cap on the rooms... given that that cap includes people who are playing games, and not just those waiting.

I Ironworks a Great Hall, reveal Trader, gain a Silver.  I then have +1 Card, +1 Action from Ironworks, right?

I keep forgetting what the actual answer to this is.  Can we have it stickied somewhere?
iirc, you get no bonus from the ironworks.

The only thing I'm sure of, though, is that a blue dog pops out and devours your mind.

Indeed it does.  Then it demands concessions before joining party-line votes in the Great Hall.

Help! / Re: Ignore sea hag with upgrade on board?

A 15% chance for 5/5 is still worth going for if getting 5/5 is strong on the board.

Sure, but you don't "go for" 5/5.  You get lucky to get 5/5.  (Most people feel that opening 5/2 is lucky and that's a 1/6 chance [of course, TDOTB]).  You have to expect 5/4 or 6/3.

In this case, getting 5/5 with an amazing (vs Hag) 5 on the board is a big deal, and is quite lucky.  If his opponent had drawn 5/4 or 5/3 (36.9% chance, buy Upgrade/Silver [?]), or 6/3 or 6/4 (42.4% chance.  Do you go Gold/Silver vs. opponent's Hag?  Or go with Upgrade/Silver still?), this would have been a much, much different game.

85% of games, the opponent gets only one Upgrade, or mirrors Hag (or possibly both, ~25% chance).

Now, I think the Bazaar buy with the lucky 5 for Dekryr was a major mistake; a high-power cantrip is going to be better than a mid-power village at this point in the game.  But I don't think you can really make the case that his opponent wasn't very lucky here.

As a note, in case anyone is going to suggest Goko just use TrueSkill, it may be relevant to note that TrueSkill is not free for commercial developers (it is a proprietary system owned by Microsoft), which is probably the reason they didn't use it. :P

While this is technically true, enough of the math of it is known that Dougz could implement something that comes within ~10% of it.  And I know he has worked with Goko, which suggests they could, at the very least, get his equations.  That said, one major complaint about Goko has been the lack of transparency on the ranking system.

For $40, I can see three or four first-run movies, depending if I splurge on 3D or IMAX. If I go cheap, I can see eight matinees (not manatees).

Do note that 40$ is not the same in US and elsewhere.

for 40$, I can see 10 movies, or 8 in 3D, for example. (Counting evening, new movie, good cinema). If I go cheap I can see.. 14 I guess.

Where the hell are you, Cambodia?  $40 in the USA would almost buy 4 movies, but not quite.

IIRC, he is in Slovakia.  Or Slovenia?  I feel terrible getting them mixed up because the people, places, and languages are nothing alike.  Then again, it's possible Europeans wouldn't understand the difference between an Iowan and an Ohioan...

He's not that lucky to get two $5's with two Silvers. I mean, it's not guaranteed, but nut uncommon at all and he made the best of it.

He is very lucky to get double 5's. It's something like a 15% chance.

Yeah, I mean... there are only a few ways to get $5 twice on 3 and 4 with two Silver equivalents:

I had a game where it was obvious the two places left to go were in the north, and in the west (this was in Germany), and I was going second last. The East was slightly better, I could go just next to the other guy and cut off the nicer area for myself. The last player... then went right next to me and sandwiched me in (actually now I think about it this might have been a friend who's a user here, Celestial Chameleon... it was a little while ago so can't remember). The end result was all of us in that corner came in the bottom three, while the guy who went in the north early steamrolled ahead and won by about 4 cities powered.

Wait, wait, wait... you know Celestial Chameleon?  S/he is a real person and not a super-advanced AI??

Because for 4 days they are undergoing routine maintainance.

Clear your cache.

This is actually one thing that gets me.  Never in the last ten years (likely more) have I had a website tell me to clear my browser cache to make their website work.

You have clrealy never had to phone up a tech support line then...

Not for a website, no.  Actually very rarely, and then almost always for hardware.

Losing the 5th player probably messed you up quite a bit; PG is really well-balanced and having that extra empty space is going to make things a lot easier for everyone.

Getting stuck behind a wall of low-tier plants can be frustrating but is somewhat common.  What's really frustrating is when just one person insists on buying one so that you can't cycle out the lowest one.

As far as strategy, you picked up on the key:  the game might as well be subtitled "Sandbag or Lose."  It's extremely difficult to stretch out to a lead and keep that lead, and doing so can be disastrous.  Other things of note:

Spend as much as you can, every time, unless it causes you to stop sandbagging.  This might include buying out extra resources to make them more expensive for others.  Obviously this has to be flexible; if you plan to really sandbag this turn and will have advantages next turn, save up some cash to take advantage of that next round.

Don't be afraid to bid high on power plants.  This is especially true if you won't be competing with anyone for that resource for a while.  If you only sort of want the plant, don't be too afraid to bid up just to force others to a higher price, though this is risky.  Make sure to count your money so you have enough to do what you want in subsequent parts of the round.  Hybrid power plants can be a life saver; wind power plants can be a trap.

If you're competing for resources, are earlier in the buy, and know you can afford it this turn, stock up to force others to pay more.  I've locked people out of winning by buying up extra resources on the last turn so they couldn't run their plants, which is an extreme but satisfying circumstance.

Don't let yourself get completely blocked while building cities.  At the same time, don't be afraid to take six cities with small connection costs, and let someone with a higher connection cost grab that seventh city, letting you build cheaper (and earlier) next turn.  Caveat:  several times I've seen a group of players all sit playing chicken at six cities each for two rounds or more.

There are situations other than endgame where you want to make a real run on the lead.  If you know everyone else is short on cash, and you can make a four or five city push to grab cash for subsequent turns (assuming your plants will support them!), do it.

Make sure you have enough capacity near the endgame.  Don't let yourself get stuck with three 5-capacity plants when everyone else has 16 total; you'll be forced into buying a 7-city power plant, and you might not have the chance to do so.  And if you get the chance, you may have to pay dearly for it.

A 5-capcity plant early in the game (turn 2, 3, 4) is worth sacrificing building this turn; you may well have it until the endgame.

Wasn't either Jesus or his (human) dad a Woodcutter? :D

Specifically Carpenter, but for the sake of this Kingdom, I think it's close enough!*

*This kingdom was lacking in a reliable plus buy (Spice Merchant is only good for so long and Sir Martin could be at bottom of pile), thank goodness we can add that without removing the integrity of the theme!

That would work.

It was only after making this kingdom I realise my scumbag choices mean it can't be played on Iso or Goko, and needs about 5 sets to play IRL. So actually playing it is... unlikely :P.

Is it just me, or is that outfit totally impractical?

That goes beyond impractical to the point of uncomfortable.  I think she'd be more comfortable and more protected without an outfit.

Edit: I looked at some of the rest of their updates.  It appears that half of their business model is "sell drawings and sculpts of mostly-nude large-breasted women that don't actually have anything to do with the game."  I mean, selling pinup art isn't a terrible business model, but why have the game at that point?

Minion is not a cantrip, as it does not preserve hand size.  Familiar, Spy, Scrying Pool, and Urchin do, though Urchin's attack is incredibly weak and non-stackable.

For me, I actually think $40 is a reasonable price to pay for every expansion minus Guilds. I can see how their currency system makes things complicated though.

Goko has its pros and cons, but it is getting better.

I will admit that even as a major Goko detractor, these points are both true.  I could understand the complaints about price point when it looked like the price point was going to be $100 for all sets.  $45?  Seriously, that's the retail price of the base set!  That's a serious value for a good game.  I don't want to pay it in beta, but that's a separate point; the price point itself is not expensive at all.

And yes, Goko's getting better.  I really didn't intend this as a Goko-bashing thread--I hope it didn't come across that way!  I hop that the local Goko staffers are watching this thread, as it might offer them some insight.

*cringe* Argh, your opponent needs to be told there's a "play all cash" button...

I think your opponent did get lucky grabbing Upgrades on both T4 and T5, but I don't think that's reason to ignore Sea Hag... in fact it might be reason to double up on it.  However, those two Upgrades are going to make your opponent's deck very fast, which means you can't ignore Upgrade... taking Bazaar on T3 was a major mistake, I think.

I do believe that may be an Iso record for number of turns.

That is some awful shuffle luck on your part.  Like, a constructed "worst-case shuffle" wouldn't be much worse than that.  Not drawing Warehouse until T5 is the key problem.
