I don't know why people are pretending that engines with treasure payload are rare.
It's still jarring to hear the pros have gone out of their way to avoid Silver and even Gold

I mean, sometimes/often it's a good idea.  And sometimes it's terrible or impossible.  The pros have gotten good at distinguishing the two!

Ruined Shepherd: +1 Action, Discard any number of Victory cards, revealing them. +2 Cards per card discarded.

Shepherd is not Scout.

I'm no good at these challenges, so consider my 16 as an initial lower bound:

6 copies of Druid are set aside with 6 copies of Ghost.  You have 4 copies of Druid in hand.  One of the set-aside Boons is +Action.
I can say that the Boon in my solution is not set aside by Druid, and my lower bound is higher. (I think 16 is actually the maximum number of times you can play Druid with Nocturne only, unless I missed some shenanigans involving Necromancer).

Yes, I'm pretty sure 16 is the upper bound on what my solution could do, so like I said, a complete lower bound for any other solution.

General Discussion / Re: Aging
« on: June 28, 2018, 01:39:25 pm »
I already experienced that in the military since I entered a few years later than most other people so a lot of the corporals were younger than me. It wasn't a very big difference though since it was only by like 1-2 years.

The aspect of aging that I'm the most worried about is hearing. Just a while ago, I was shocked to realize that my mom literally doesn't hear anything above 8 kHz and then I was further shocked to realize that it's normal for people of her age.

What was that? Speak up, I can't hear you.

(Actually my hearing problems are neurological, not age-related, alas)

Rules Questions / Re: summon + death cart vs. summon + nomad camp
« on: June 26, 2018, 08:06:48 pm »
Obviously the best idea instead of the lose-track rule would have been to create a second discard pile that contains only cards you gained this turn, which you're allowed to look through, but have to put into your regular discard pile if you shuffle.

There's no way that could become confusing, right?

Whereas you can't tell your friends, "I like Sheep, let's play with it," because there is no card Sheep.

*surreptitiously places pile of Sheep cards from Catan next to the kingdom piles*

At least we have Goat and Shepherd!

Thief and Pirate Ship are... not widely regarded as game-distortingly strong.

But Thief could cause exceptionally-rare contrived stalemates that forced Donald to add the "whoever starves first loses" rule!

Sims for pure big money suggest bidding 17

Out of interest, this was BM vs BM, right?

But engine vs BM there are two possibilities.  If BM gets Province first, what does engine bid, and vice versa?

I always bid a non-integer, non-fraction number.  People think I'm irrational when I do it.

how Puerto Rico magically had Chuts and 3Sug.

What are those?  I've never seen those in relation to Puerto Rico.

And so that newer people who are scratching their heads about the bacon thing don't think we're all just crazy:

B) Would bump it out of the bottom 10%

But then we would have a different bottom 10%. Wouldn't we have to fix that next?

I feel like there's a bacon analogy here somewhere.

I had ten strips of bacon yesterday...

Would you say that one of them was the worst of the ten?  And was it still tasty?

Technically, any gainer+ Donate.  Obviously this only works on 5/2 or 2/5 opening.

Did the well-known blue dog discussion inform the development and naming of Faithful Hound?
The card name wasn't based on that, but when I made the card I thought, sweet, a blue dog.

I tried two cards at the same time for that slot, two reactions that cared about being discarded. The other was a Black Cat. That would have been cool too. But the blue dog was better.

Now I'm kinda sad there's no black cat (which I assume would be a Night-only card named Cat).  At least we have a Bat.

Does anyone think it's odd that our mouths are used for so many functions? If you were going to design a person would you have separate facilities for eating, breathing, speaking, etc. Also I feel like we could end up just dropping verbal speech.

You want to design several organs?  We would probably poop out of our mouths if it weren't for the fact that it's not sanitary.
Yep, it's defnitely best to keep the number of openings where problematic stuff can enter to a minimum. When you design a spaceship, you don't drop airlocks all over the place for different functions [this is me speaking from my vast experience in designing spaceships].

I think it makes a lot of sense to have multi-purpose body parts. In many cases, it's easier for an existing body part to evolve to perform another function in addition to what it was already doing than for a completely new body part to emerge. For example, mudskippers use their fins for walking on land, because that's easier than growing a pair of legs or something.

And if you want proof that "intelligent design" is utter bullshit, look no further than these two systems and ask which the world looks more like!

(Royal Wedding)

Well, it's more like Prince/Duke + Wandering Minstrel + Wedding = Prince/Duke + Princess/Duchess

Wikipedia says she was a Duchess (which I had to google, since I don't follow that stuff)

She became a Duchess when they married; before that she was not a peer.

I agree with silverspawn, people often are bad at estimating measurements.
For example, I recently ordered something 20 centimeters long, and it was less than half the size i had imagined.

Was... was this supposed to be a dick joke?
