I'm only a couple weeks from my 5 year anniversary date.

Wow, I'm here since 6 1/4 years, insane.
I just checked and I'm nearing 6 years as well. Pretty crazy considering I hardly even play Dominion anymore.

Almost 7 years here.  I was here on day 2? 3?

Other Games / Re: Zachtronics Games

I love Zachtronics.  Like trivilaknot, I started out with his games on Kongregate, Codex of Alchemical Engineering and KOHCTPYTOP, not finishing either.  The latter is pretty impressive, you're literally building circuits out of logic gates that you build with virtual metal and doped silicon.

I got about 80% through SpaceChem before I hit a wall, then lost the save (this was before cloud saving on Steam).  I tried Inifinifactory, but I just couldn't get a hold of it enough to make it work for me.  I finished Opus Magnum a couple weeks ago, I think?  He has said it's one of his easiest ones.

I haven't played any of the coding ones because, well, if I'm going to learn to code it's going to be to do something useful with it.

What was the criterion?

A friend posted a very.... interesting... ranking:

8, 5, 4, 1, R1, 7, 6, 3, 2.

I suggested that by his criteria, the real ranking should be:

2, 5, 7, 8, 4, 1, 6, 3, R1

What was his criterion?

Well, both of you put the movies in alphabetical order.

Kuildeous was correct.

3. Like silverspawn, I am also really bothered by the state of the Resistance. What happened after the Return of the Jedi?

There are four novels and a couple dozen short stories that apparently fill in a lot of this.

Quote
What happened after A Force Awakens?

From what I'm getting from Wookieepedia, almost nothing.  There appears to be very little time between the end of TFA and the start of TLJ, possibly as little as a few days, no more than a few weeks.

Quote
Normally I don't care about background that much, especially for action flicks, but it is weird (depressing?) to see such complete victories, but then by the end of the Last Jedi the totality of the military resistance fits inside of the Millennium Falcon.

The victory at the end of Force Awakens is a smaller one than we would hope.  Even though the Starkiller base is destroyed, they were able to destroy many of the New Republic's core worlds, leaving them fragmented, leaderless (destroying essentially the entire government) and without much of a military presence.

4. Is it confirmed that Snoke/Kylo Ren are Sith? I didn't think so. While their journey mirrors the Sith (one master, one apprentice, apprentice kills master), I didn't think they were actually Sith.

Well there was that whole idolizing Darth Vader on the part of Kylo Ren, so they're effectively Sith.

2D movies are problematic, it's either a static picture or a straight line that changes during the movie.  Probably not worth it.

Well, it's all relative.

If you choose your starting hand, and then Monty Hall opens a door and shows you a Goat behind that door, do you want to change your starting hand to include Goat, Or stay with the same starting hand?

If I have two of these in play, it would appear that I get the effect twice, so if the LHO plays a Silver, I can dig two Silvers into my hand?
If you get 4 Tacticians in play, Bridge games end unacceptably quickly, don't they.

Derp.  Of course.

Other than the starvation rule, what stops them turning the game into a stalemate where they don't play anything, so you don't draw anything until you buy a Copper?
I think I didn't consider this closely enough.  I'm not sure this actually goes into the diner with optimal play, but it does get more sloggy than I'd like.
I'll consider what type of fix is the most elegant.  I appreciate this particular criticism.

Also, this would be extremely vulnerable to any top-of-deck attacks.  "What's that, you don't have a discard pile any longer?  Sucks to be you."
You still draw Rabble, Spy, or Scrying pool itself, but mostly, I considered this and figured the number of top of deck attacks is acceptably low enough.  Maybe it's not.  It at least seems nonobvious to me.  Nonterminal Swindler is interesting.  This becomes more problematic in combination with the above issue of the buying a copper onus being too heavy which I am agreeing I think I messed up on a bit.  Some of the top of deck attackers cause this Band of Misfits itself into the top of deck attacker that came in, due to "when you play" timing.  For instance, if you get Bandited, you can go get a Bandit, and gaining a Gold and trashing a Silver is a respectable outcome from your nonterminal 5$ workshop.
[/quote]

Remember, though, that drawing the Rabble/Pool/Spy doesn't net to anything other than the very weak attack.  I think the number of top-of-deck attacks is significant enough that, as you say, the being-forced-to-buy-Copper thing suddenly makes the card weak.

Ghost is really awful if you're drawing your deck.

I've read this a dozen times now and still don't understand what it's trying to accomplish... you end your turn, don't draw a hand, then draw what your left-hand opponent plays (assuming similar deck composition).  And then on your next turn, anything that draws cards is useless, so hopefully you're not trying to play an engine.  And then I guess you play a turn with their cards, then after you buy something you take another turn?

If I have two of these in play, it would appear that I get the effect twice, so if the LHO plays a Silver, I can dig two Silvers into my hand?

It might as well read "Roll a 6-sided die. If it's a 6, the game is over and you win." because that's incredibly close to what it does.

I've told you a million times not to use hyperbole!

Also, I disagree.  It's tricky to get the Wishes, but not nearly as hard as rolling a 6... and your opponent has the chance to get the same Wishes, as opposed to getting Diadem instead of Trusty Steed and Princess.

(pre-game shuffling is rare in Dominion besides your own deck),

Knights, Ruins

I did not say that you never pre-game shuffle a pile in Dominion other than your own deck.  I said it was 'rare'.  You've named two examples out of a game that has what, 300 cards now?  More?  Even if you play only Dark Ages you're probably only doing this in half the games you play, and how many live games of Dominion have been that?  So yeah, I think the word rare was pretty much the perfect word choice, but thank you for giving me the opportunity to distinguish between rarity and impossibility.

If you meant this to augment my point, more than two words would've helped.  If you wanted to circle back to my larger point about Boons and Hexes, ditto.

Welcome to f.DS, where finding edge cases is kind of our... thing.

Were I to generalize this behavior, I'd suggest instead of 'finding edge cases', 'strictly enumerating the edge cases very obviously alluded to by other posters'

You say to-MAY-to, I say EYE-ther.

I just watched Vasel's review of Nocturne.  Although I do agree with some of what he says, mostly I just got a kick out of it.  It was funny, because it was pretty obvious that he doesn't really know what he's talking about when it comes to dominion.

I watch his reviews for lots of games I am interested in, but this makes me wonder how well he explains them.  He described ghost saying "you can look through your deck and set aside an action card".  He neglected to mention the part that is actually good about ghost.  He also just said a lot of things wrong.

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/344530-briefly-stated-the-gell-mann-amnesia-effect-is-as-follows-you

So much of this.  I think I watched one of Vasel's reviews and... nothing about it made me think he was a good reviewer.

How come many apparently simple potential card names haven't been used yet, when so many more obscure words and phrases have seen the light of day?

Looking back at the outtakes there are a bunch of names like Cavalry, Servant, Battlements, Barbarian, Butler, Poison, Academy, etc. which you were once considering.

Also, statues have been mentioned in the intro text for two expansions now, but we still don't have a Statue, let alone one that comes to life. (-8
The goal is never "make sure I get these simple potential card names used." The goal is always to have names that fit the cards and expansion well. So I mean. There's no mystery here.

As noted Guardian is a statue that comes to life.

But it's not made of baklava, which is only slightly disappointing.

As an aside, Imp is a lovely target for Prince, isn't it? If Imp is the first card you play each turn, the restriction fades into irrelevance and it becomes (almost exactly) a Laboratory that costs "up to $4".

Not only that, but you can use it to pull neat tricks like playing a Vault, discarding your hand, and then calling Guide. Or playing KC-KC-(engine) to draw your entire deck, then calling Transmogrify with your whole deck in hand.

It's impressive, but it can be impractical to do that without your deck imploding.

"Stupid Prior" is the name of my Weird Al cover band.

I've played a game of Dominion on my phone while in the middle of a IRL game of Dominion!

I once played a 6P IRL game with 4 first time players. I could have played a league match between each of my turns.

It's like the Dominion player's hell.

Double Witch is a powerful BM strategy because Witch is sufficiently powerful, Double Jack is a powerful BM strategy, because Jack is sufficiently powerful, and Double Margrave is a powerful BM strategy, for the same reason.  I've heard around that Tactician is more powerful than any of those cards.  And Tactician can meaningfully be played as your only terminal for the term.  Therefore, Double Tactician is a powerful BM strategy.

Logic checks out.  Also, all men are Aristotle.

I think you should have been able to do so.  The Princed action should still have been part of the "start of turn", because you might have followed that with another Princed action.
