A cheaper village that can also be used for remodel tricks. Plus, it's pretty good with the adventures journey cards. But it's tricky to buy!

What happens if I play 3 Bridges? There are 2 ways that can work:
1. The 3 Bridges first try to reduce Frontier Village's cost to -, dropping it to instead, then Frontier Village passively raises its own cost by , ending with a cost of .
2. Frontier Village passively raises its cost by to , then the 3 Bridges reduce its cost to .

In order to address this issue, I would recommend changing it to:

Cost
This costs less if your Journey token is face up (it starts face up).

This is functionally identical to interpretation #2, but is unambiguous.

Thanks for all the kind words, spheremonk. I'm glad you liked my card.

Without any further ado:
Contest #101: "You may turn your Journey token over."

Design a card (or card shaped thing, it doesn't have to be a Kingdom card) that uses "you may turn your Journey token over." Of course, it should do something that prevents it from being effectively the same as a choose one; it could make you vulnerable while the Journey token is in a given state a la Kudasai's Lancers, for example.

Another note, please do not submit a card that you've previously posted on the forums, such as the aforementioned Lancers, even if you posted it as a submission to a previous WDC. I tend to be biased in favor of new cards/cards I haven't already seen, and I want to avoid that as much as I can.

My judging criteria will focus on balance, playability, fun, and creativity.

P.S. Edit: Any submissions that would be better suited as a "choose one:" will be disqualified (don't worry, I'll let you know ASAP if your submission won't work).

P.P.S. Edit: A couple of things I should've mentioned earlier:
1. Your submission doesn't necessarily have to say "you may turn your Journey token over" word for word, it just has to optionally allow you to turn it over. It can even be conditional if you want.
2. The effect of turning your Journey token over doesn't necessarily have to be on-play. It could be an on-call effect on a Reserve card, or a Reaction effect, whatever you want (within reason).

P.P.P.S. Edit: Some further clarifications:
If the condition for turning your Journey token over is something passive like "if you have 5 or more Actions in play" or when a specific event occurs, then turning your Journey token at that point has to be optional, even if triggering that specific event or meeting that condition is optional to begin with.
Reaction cards that flip your Journey token over as part of its Reaction automatically qualify (unless it's a mandatory Reaction like Patron's) since revealing it is optional. Same with calling Reserve cards.

Gambler:
"The player to your left reveals a card from their hand. Reveal your hand. If it has at least a copy of the revealed card You may reveal a copy of it for +1 Card.

Carline's most recent version of Gambler has that wording, but specifies "from your hand," as it should.

Apiary - Treasure, $5 cost.
$2
When you next gain a card this turn, you may Exile a non-Victory card costing up to $5.
For the rest of the turn, cards you have a copy of in Exile cost $1 less.
The premise is cost reduction for things in Exile so they're easier to get off. That part might be a bit weak?

Where does the non-Victory card come from? I assume the Supply?

Congrats to grrgrrgrr! I would recommend that after we finish up with all the sets that we design cards for a hypothetical combination set. So we choose two existing sets and design a card that would be a merger of those two themes and mechanics. I believe someone previously suggested this, so it is not my own, but I wanted to throw that out there to either continue this thread or spur the creation of a new thread. It has been fun.

Horse Thieves - $4
Action - Attack
+$2
Each other player with 4 or more cards in hand discards a Treasure card (or reveals a hand with none). Either gain a copy of a discarded card or gain a Horse onto your deck.

I originally designed this as an improved Cutpurse a while back. I like that buying A Horse Thieves defends against the card by giving you horses, if you forgo gaining a treasure off the attack. Not sure if it is too good in its current state, but I can always adjust the price or the number of cards in hand needed for the attack to land. Feedback is appreciated.

This is strictly better than the mentioned Cutpurse, which hasn't even been removed or anything.

A mostly vanilla wish gainer.

As worded, this gives you a Silver regardless of whether you overpaid any or not. Is that intentional?

You can't overpay by 0. You have to pay more than the current cost of the card.

As worded, it's not "if you overpaid but didn't overpay or more, gain a Silver," (which is what you intend) it's "if you didn't overpay or more, including if you didn't overpay at all, gain a Silver." Because the otherwise in your wording means "if you didn't overpay or more," which includes not overpaying at all. I recommend this wording:

Quote
When you buy this, you may overpay for it to gain a Wish. Otherwise, you may overpay for it to gain a Silver.

This takes away the ability to overpay - or + for it, but there was no point in doing so to begin with (why pay more when you don't get anything for doing so?).

Gambler should end "you may reveal a copy of it from your hand for + 1 card" so there isn't trust issues

I think with the wording you suggested you could reveal the same copy many times until you draw your deck.

The text is only followed once. Same reason Mountebank doesn't let opponents just discard any number of Curses for draw-to-X purposes, and Vault doesn't let opponents do the "discard 2 cards to draw one" thing multiple times, etc.

Why would "you may reveal a copy of it from your hand for +1 Card" be followed any number of times when it only allows it once?

Generally, cards don't reveal multiple cards when there's no reason to. For example, Gladiator only has your opponent reveal one card even though it could have them reveal their hand, because it only cares about that one card. Likewise, there's no reason for Gambler to reveal your whole hand when it only cares about one card in it. It would also be less wordy to only reveal one card:
Quote
The player to your left reveals a card from their hand. You may reveal a copy from your hand for +1 Card.
This is only 21 words (counting the +1 Card as one word) versus your wording's 26 words.

Sisterhood: This is just personal preference (though it might not be), but I would make it "any of your unused Actions" instead of "each".

That has a different function from what Carline intends. "Each" and the intended function of Sisterhood only allow all-or-nothing. "Any" would not be all-or-nothing. This matters because of Diadem and cards that return to your Action phase, like Villa and Cavalry.

Also, 2nd edition Rabble does not say "revealed" Actions and Treasures:

Tooth Fairy - Night/Duration, $4 cost
Set aside a card from your hand under this. At the start of your next turn, you may put it into your hand or trash it.  If you trash it, gain a Wish if it costs $5 or more, otherwise gain a Silver.
Do you get the silver if you don't trash it, or only if you trash it and it costs less than 5?

Only if you trash the card and it costs less than 5.  The wording isn't super clear; I'm wondering if changing the first comma in the last sentence to a colon would make it clearer: "...If you trash it: gain a Wish if it costs $5 or more, otherwise gain a Silver."

I think it would be clearer if it used a colon instead of a comma there.

Wouldn't it make more sense to be "during your turns" not "in your turns"?

I copied the wording from Labyrinth:

HoP only has two Throne Room variants that work on it (Counterfeit and Crown), and even then, one of them trashes the Throned card. Jewelry, on the other hand, has both of those, Disciple, Ghost, KC, Mastermind, Procession, Royal Carriage, Scepter, and Throne Room (10 TR variants). 2 is negligible, 10 not so much. (I'm not counting Citadel because it wouldn't be a useful combo with Jewelry the vast majority of the time.)
Sure, but the card is bonkers not mainly due to number of TR variants. It is stronger and cheaper than HoP in most engines. Unlike with HoP you don't have to work for it.

Also unlike HoP, however, play order matters more for Jewelry. Jewelry gains a card with an exact cost. You've convinced me that it should probably cost more, though. I think it could get away with costing .

Does Jewelry itself count if it is played as an Action?

There's no such concept as "playing a card as an Action." It's an Action regardless of when you play it. It always counts itself.

Unlike Horn of Plenty, you could play it with Throne Room or King's Court.  Just wondering if you considered that when determining the cost.

She took the pricing advise from me and Something_Smart. I don't know if SS took its Thronability into account, but I didn't think about that.

HoP can be crowned.

The name and the art don't really make sense together, IMHO. Based on the art, I'd suggest calling it "Noblewoman," or something similar.

Speaking of art, where do you find your art, Carline? Did you draw your art for all these cards yourself?

I want to name the expensive objects she uses and own, not the woman. Like other treasures of the set (Tiara, Goldens Spoils), the woman is there but the name is the name of the treasure.

Ah, that makes sense. Jewelry is a much better name, IMO.

Also worth noting that Princess becomes a Ruined Market because the under-the-horizontal-line-effect won't trigger.

Using wording like Prince would allow Princess to still be useful:

Quote
Set aside a Prize. If you do, play it, returning it to its pile when you discard it from play.

This also helps with the rushing to get many Victors, as you could only play each prize once per turn.

Other kingdom specific consequences I can think of (I'm sure there are more, there are always more :) )

• ability to add Diadem to your deck (though not officially gain) by buying Mandarin
• similarly, ability to add Trusted Steed to your deck by buying Mandarin (having previously bought Capitalism)
• ability to gain any of the Action Prizes by buying Bonfire, then Lurker (having previously bought Innovation)

You could also use Changeling to trash Prizes (might be useful if you fall behind in a Victor race).

Changeling only trashes itself.

At the start of your clean-up phase, you may put a Silver or Gold you have in play onto your Pirate Ship mat.

Depending on whether you intend for placing Silvers and Golds onto the Pirate Ship mat to require playing a Pirate Ship, you should either ditch the horizontal line (if playing a Pirate Ship is required) or say "In games using this, at the start of your Clean-up phase..."

Trash this or a Treasure from your hand. If you trash a Copper, receive a Hex.
----
Instead of paying this card's cost, you may trash a Lucky Coin from your hand.

Lab variant. Most comparable to Stables. It has some bells and whistles added for flavor and to meet the contest criteria. Not sure if completely balanced or appealing, but I am not a huge fan of Fool and wanted to try my hand at coming up with an alternate companion to Lucky Coin. Feedback is appreciated.

You should probably word this like Death Cart: "You may trash this or a Treasure from your hand, for +3 Cards and +1 Action. If you trashed a Copper, receive a Hex."

I was hoping to have the trash trigger after the draw. Gives it more oomph and makes it more appealing at $6 compared to Stables.

Ah, right. Since you Hex yourself if you trash a Copper, it would actually be pretty sorry compared to Stables if you had to trash before drawing.

Right, if the concern is regarding its interaction with emulators, which I think is why Death Cart has that wording, I can always change it to a Command card. I guess the potential issue is when you cannot trash the Fae Queen (Necromancer) and have no treasures in hand to trash (or claim to have none).

You could make the non-terminality conditional on being able to trash itself or a Treasure.

Contest #100: Fun with Non-Supply Cards

Create a card-shaped thing that interacts with an existing (i.e., official) non-Supply card. It can be any type of card-shaped thing and can interact in any way whatsoever, big or small, with any existing non-Supply card (or more than one). Please name or show the existing non-Supply card and describe the interaction. Feel free to wander – please do not focus too much on the contest criteria.

As long as there is any interaction whatsoever, very little attention will be paid in the judging to the quality or degree of the of interaction – I prefer flexible creativity to adherence to restrictions. While I believe that personal preference is always a substantial factor in judging these contests, I will try to focus on balance, playability and, most of all, fun. Also, just a hint, but certainly not necessary to win, I tend to enjoy cards that honor an overall theme or story.

Good luck to everyone!  Have a happy and safe 2021!

(I almost went with a 2020-themed contest, but didn’t really want to look at 100 cards featuring Ruins, Rats and Curses.)

Just to clarify, does our card have to interact with a non-Supply card directly (such as gaining Spoils or Horses, etc. or Commanding them a-la spineflu's entry) or can our card just combo with some non-Supply card in some way without necessarily guaranteeing that it's in use (like LittleFish's entry does)?
