I'm really fascinated by the ruling about cards referring to their pile instead of the supply. I'm wondering if it's paving the way for a mechanic involving kingdom card piles that aren't in the supply. Kind of like how Guilds got the Coffers change just before Renaissance came out.

I feel like Silk Road wasn't different enough from Gardens to be its own card. I also have a particular fondness for cards that are when-gain and when-trash, so I'm happy to see a few of those.

I'm excited to get this new "expansion". It's basically like getting three expansions this year!

Wait, with the errata to on-gain, Farmland can be cool now. Don’t kill Farmland.

EDIT: WAIT - with Witch’s Hut, the set has a Curser, so Ill-Gotten Gains is going, I bet.

Yeah, I really hope Farmland gets "when you gain this other than with Farmland" rather than "when you gain this after buying it". It would make the card way more interesting.

Also, I wonder how many newer players just don't know about the blue dog thing?

Where can I read more things that you've written? The stuff you write for Dominion is hilarious, I'd love to read other stuff, books, novellas etc.

(It's not just a list of jokes like the blurbs though.)

By the way, I bought this book and it's great. Definitely worth it for the DXV story but the rest is an eye-opening read, at least what I've read of it (I haven't gotten to all the pieces yet).

One thing I like about your writing is that you have a very distinct voice. I've been starting to do some writing recently and have been struggling to find my voice as a writer. Do you have any tips or stories about how you developed your writing style?

Cartographer is good and I would say interesting with conditional draw such as Wishing Well, Vagrant, Will-o-Wisp, etc. I do, however, have bad memories of trying to teach people the game and putting Cartographer, a seemingly innocent card, and the kingdom. They would play it and just sit there staring at their 4 cards for a few minutes, then do it all over again.

I wonder how far these second editions will go? Will Dark Ages get one? It'd be nice to finally see Rebuild and Cultist go, but I'm not sure there are enough other cards to be replaced. Adventures? I hope not, I'd hate to see Miser replaced. Or is Hinterlands it?

Online, I always do 2p. In person, it's always as many people as I can find, with the exception that I don't do 6p. That's too much. But in person it's a very different experience. We're not just sitting around waiting while our friends play their turns. We're sitting around the table, conversing, making jokes, laughing, hanging out. So it's a lot more tolerable to have even a sloggy game in person of you're with people you like.

I have to say, I'm surprised there aren't more VP token cards. I thought we would be getting at least 6 in these new cards, but now it's a max of 4. Not particularly complaining, but I just know Donald likes to get as much use out of components as possible.

Crystal Ball looks like it'll suffer from the same problem that Sentry and Doctor do, in that in most cases its trashing is random and unreliable, making it really hard to get those last several bad cards out of your deck. It might help to think of it as the playing cards being its main effect and the trashing being a nice bonus if you hit a bad card.

The other day, I pulled off a Raider-Council room combo in person in a game where curses were also flying around. It got to the point where my friends were discarding all their good cards and saying, "why can't you just play a curse?" Little did we know, you would be able to do that soon!

What surprises me the most is that now Seaside, the 3rd set, has a way to play Action cards (and Night cards) in your buy phase. I guess it's not that much of a problem rules-wise, but I've always seen that as at least a 12th set thing, potentially confusing to newer players. But I'm sure Donald knows what he's doing!

Tide Pools is also interesting with Duration draw. You can fail to discard before you choose to activate your Wharf/Haunted Woods etc, so some of the downside is mitigated. Like, a deck with 6 Tide Pools and 4 HWs starts with a hand of six cards and gets to play 3 double labs per turn. It that worth it? It sounds pretty good. Maybe someone can do the math and prove me wrong.

I predict that Trade Route will be removed (no need for coin tokens) and we will get more +VP cards to make use of the VP tokens. Although that raises the question of whether the update pack will have tokens in it. Probably not because it's assuming you already have Prosperity 1E.
