Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Base Set Cards: Market
« on: April 11, 2016, 08:37:05 pm »
So to add to the questions: at what point in the game do you want to get a Market? I know this depends on the kingdom but how much does it generally help your scoop in the early game vs in the mid to late game? I often feel like I'm picking up Markets too early when I can't use the buy and it's just a Peddler. Any insights?

Sorry for the delay, people.  I'm still working on finding a replacement for Limetime.  Unfortunately, I can't fill in for him myself because of my busy schedule.  I do intend to keep this tournament going, though, even if scheduling issues put us back a few weeks.  If any active players want to play their Round 2 match, you may, but the deadlines will be moved back regardless.

General Discussion / Re: Music talk
« on: April 11, 2016, 06:35:25 pm »
Hey music people!  I'm not sure why I haven't posted here yet, I've been on these forums a while and I'm a musician.  Anyway, here's my Soundcloud, where you can find most of my music that's currently out in the wild.  There's a demo there fresh off the press, and some stuff going back to when I was in high school, so a real range.  And yes, that's my actual name, but I prefer going by Reggie.  So let me know what you think!

It's close but I'm going to go with Horse Traders.

Unfortunately, there's no feasible way for me to get there and back in time for my concert, so I won't make it. I'm sure I'll get to come to one of these someday.

One thing I've been wondering is how much stronger Militia is as first player. Does anyone have any math or just good intuitions on this?

I remember I once bought a Farmland, trashing OGE and drawing Hovel, and it let me trash Hovel for buying Farmland. I'm pretty sure this is right.

Forum Games / Re: Bracket Wars
« on: April 09, 2016, 02:15:31 pm »
I looked up the things I didn't know so I could learn new things and make good decisions.

Side 1

Nathan Fillon
Juicy Burgers
Never seen much of Firefly, but I do enjoy juicy burgers.

Brackets
Scout
Sorry RR, brackets are just funner.

Bernie Sanders
Sword

Dominion
Accidentally buying a Farmland when you thought it was Fairgrounds

Godel’s Incompleteness Theorems
Chuck Norris
This seems interesting, and I was never much one for Chuck Norris jokes.

Chairs
The End of Making Fun’s Dominion Online
Not sure if this means Chairs the person or just actual chairs, but both are cool.

Bacon
Lego Bricks
Bacon is usually good.  Lego bricks are always good.

Rosemary
Mbaqanga
I listened to some and it's quite enjoyable.  Thanks to whomever posted this!

Side 2

Steven Colbert
Slytherin

Zephyr
Heroes of Might and Magic III
I don't really like war games.

Hexachordal Combinatoriality
Dinosaurs
This is actually really cool despite the hard-to-spell name.

Syzygy
Donkey Kong
I didn't really play video games as a kid, but a friend of mine had some DK Gameboy games and they were fun.

Beating Rebuild
Moat

Nutella
8)
Glad I liked Nutella, but if I had wanted to choose the other one maybe I would have gone for a different way of voting.

Donald X.
Chapel
Without Donald X there would be no Chapel

Solid State Drives
Pulsars
These look so cool!

Trader is fun in a weird way when it's good and Watchtower is just fun in a normal way.
I really like how Horse Traders has that self synergy. Market Square's abilities kind of make sense together but could be mixed up.

Game Reports / Re: I beat Stef?
« on: April 07, 2016, 04:31:27 pm »
I keep telling myself that Stonemason is one of those cards that I need to say, "oh hey this is a stonemason board" at the beginning of the game, but I always seem to forget about it.

Also, Stef? was asking me how to get better at Dominion and I suggested the forum, so hopefully he makes an appearance here. He's pretty good already though.

I'm sure someone's made this joke before.  I felt like I got this deck going way faster than I thought was possible, since BM games are usually pretty slow with Colonies.  What do you guys think about Island here?  Would Sea Hag have been an option?  Honestly, I mainly posted this to make the joke but there were a lot of decisions in this game that I could have made differently.

10. Silk Road

8. Fairgrounds
9. Gardens

6. Distant Lands
11. Island

Distant Lands is so good!

4. Vineyard

I don't think our round is happening. I'm out, I guess?
We tried several times to make it work, but it's looking like our schedules are too incompatible.

I am on the same page here

I'm going to extend the deadline for round 1 by at least a week so I can find a replacement for Limetime (who has been inactive for quite some time).  If this match is not feasible, it's ok to move to round 2 and we'll find a workaround.  I don't think that being unable to schedule your first round match should cause you to drop out of the tournament.  I'll have more on this after I figure out who will replace Limetime.

Puzzles and Challenges / Re: Easy Puzzles

Hint 1: It's not a supply pile.

Hint 2: There are 10 of them, and I'm pretty sure you can only gain 1.

As far as I know, the only two piles that meet these conditions are Madman and Mercenary, and you can gain all of those if you want.  Maybe it's something from Empires.

2396

1 King's Court
3 Crossroads

5 Herald
8 Pizza

I like it when my opponent overpays for Herald and then realizes they only have a Curse in their discard.  That happened the other day.

9 Royal Carriage
12 Squire

This is about the best village, and of all the Throne Rooms, Royal Carriage is probably the worst village because you can't call it on Royal Carriage.  I'd say as a card it's better than Squire though.

13 Fortress
15 Fishing Village

Fortress is part of Bishop/Fortress, which is so satisfying.

18 Shanty Town
19 Ironmonger

21 Wandering Minstrel
24 Lost City

My Dominion group came up with a dirty joke having to do with Wandering Minstrel and one of its functions (besides being a village), and that's all I can think of when I play the card now.  That doesn't have anything to do with this, though, I just think Lost City is funner.

25 Border Village
27 Golem

Golem is annoyingly expensive, Border Village is just expensive.  Not to say I hate potions, but Golem is a bit much for a village.

29 City
32 Coin of the Realm

One of my favorite cards in all of Dominion, how could I not vote for it?

I'd go with 1347.
Caravan Guard is interesting and new but not particularly fun. I mostly like it because orange and blue look nice together. Trader is interesting and sometimes good and brought about the phrase "Blue Dog Rule" so how could I not like it?
I like Beggar because it's niche; when it's good it's really cool. That was a hard one though.
Horse Traders is just so interesting; I don't get people who say it's boring.

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Base Set Cards: Feast
« on: April 06, 2016, 12:13:17 am »
The bots seem to have found the ultimate Feast-based strategy: repeatedly play BoM as Feast to gain another BoM, then finally gain a Duchy when the BoMs are gone.  I think someone posted a game log with this, and I tried it out.  Whenever you have the two in the same kingdom, the bots seems to go for it.
