Another very common feature of other deckbuilders that I hate is that most cards give points and stronger cards are also worth more points. You don't get any of the interesting decisions around greening or whatever the equivalent is.

4 player ambassador is weird. And extra awful when you keep losing every card you buy. It might have been better to just load up on silver and try to hit 5 early and often and never expect to get clean. Of course the real play is probably never to play 4P dominion.

Well the boss relics are the ones with explicit downsides. Generally you want some way to deal with the more damaging of those.

I would encourage you to not think about your deck as a certain archetype. Add cards/relics that will help you win fights you currently can't. Even if those cards don't fit into whatever archetype you think your deck has. I've picked up crappy cards like dagger spray in act 3 just because my poison heavy deck couldn't do AoE well enough and I was afraid of reptomancer.

Also, very few relics will make your deck worse no matter what your deck already looks like. Some will do little to nothing though. But as far as the blue key is concerned, even a weak relic in act 1 is usually worth picking over it just because a weak relic over the entire run can still help overall and the blue key does nothing to get you through the early game.

Are you talking about the red/blue/green keys? Yeah you can pick those up in any of act 1-3. Generally you will want to take them later, but sometimes it makes sense to take them earlier. You'll take the blue key early if your relic reward is super bad for instance.

Most of the motion controls on the joycon are a bit hard to use. Pro controller feels better to me.

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Renaissance Cards: Inventor
« on: November 07, 2018, 04:08:06 pm »
In my limited experience, inventor is better than bridge in general. I will say that bridge is better during the megaturn itself, since you need to play more inventors to drain provinces, but inventor is very good as accelerating your deck, particularly with any overdraw. But I imagine a lot of inventor decks are unlikely to actually make it to the magaturn before piles run.

The ability to gain 5+ cost cards off a workshop is rare and powerful. University costs a potion and cant gain itself. Artisan is a 6 cost and can't usually gain itself. Vampire costs 5 and can only be played every other shuffle and cant gain itself.

Just finished Daredevil season 3. It's thoroughly excellent and probably my favorite season of any of the marvel netflix shows.

In my playing, it seems the anti-synergy can be mostly removed by playing around it appropriately. So, if you get Mountain Villages and Warehouses in the same deck, what you do is learn to discard a good card with Warehouse whenever necessary.

But if you are discarding a good card rather than a bad card that is just as bad as discarding a bad card and picking it back up.

It still counteracts sifting. If your key card is 4 deep in the deck, forum and village gets you there but forum and MV doesn't.

Mountain Village seems quite strong for a village. It acts like an accelerant when you're not drawing deck, letting you replay key cards one shuffle, or the new card you just bought last turn. Once you are drawing deck it behaves just like a normal village (with maybe some mid-turn gain shenanigans), but by that point, it's done a lot of extra work for you.

Rules Questions / Re: Order of Resolution with Imp and Royal Carriage
« on: August 29, 2018, 02:26:49 pm »
Think of it like

Play Imp
  -Play BV
  -BV resolved
Imp resolved

You can stick the RC call after either of the resolutions, so it could be called right after resolving BV but before resolving imp to play the BV again, or after resolving imp to call imp again.

A neat side effect of this is if you play an imp and play an RC.

Play Imp
  -Play RC
  -Resolve RC
Resolve Imp

At this point, you can call the RC you just played to play the imp again. Or, if you don't call RC, you can play another imp to play another RC, since the first RC is not in play.

Puzzles and Challenges / Re: Maximum Wishes gained in a turn?

That's why you should ban certain cards. Like, how many can you play without lurker and overlord? Or without leprechaun and secret cave?

Once I opened inheritance with guardian and baker.

You may possibly want one in a very sloggy game to try to spike a province or something the following turn. Especially useful if you don't expect to shuffle again.

21
GendoIkari beat me to it. I agree with his response.

Mainly my concern is with there being no 2-player testing, when this is apparently the most common format. Whether you're doing "full random" or "base plus two sets plus the expansion to be playtested" seems inconsequential.

I'm not sure 2 player is the most common format. Online, yes, but for most dominion players IRL I would be very surprised.

22
I have literally never heard anyone argue that treasures as a class are inherently worse.

23
Gold and silver aren't bad because they're treasures.

To be fair, I thought some of the deductions were kinda clever in episode one, like the suitcase, and there was no big puzzle solved off-screen. But I'm quite willing to believe that this gets worse later... many mediocre shows tend to get more lazy about character traits as they go on.

Oh you've only seen the first episode. Watch the second episode. Then just stop. Those are the only two that are worth the time.

Writing very smart characters is difficult. Sherlock is bad for a lot more reasons than the way Sherlock's intelligence is handled, but it is one of the issues.

Basically, the show tells us sherlock is a super genius in one of two unsatisfying ways. Either a) he makes "deductions" which are terrible if you spend a second to think about them. Like, there are lots of possible reasons for x, and sherlock just happens to always know which one is correct. This doesn't make him smart, it makes him magic. Or b) the work all happens off screen, so the viewer never has a chance to think about the mystery. The show just says, no, trust us, this was a really hard puzzle that takes a super genius to solve.
