Weekly Design Contest / Re: Weekly Design Contest #170: 2/7 Offsuit

This wording won't work.  It means

Choose one:  reveal; or gain.

You can choose an option you can't do.  You should write

You may reveal; if you don't, gain.

Soldiers Village
cost $2 - Action - Attack
+1 Card
+1 Action
You may play an Attack card from your hand.
---
When you gain this, gain another Soldiers Village (that doesn't come with another).

Armed Smithy
cost $7* - Action - Attack
+3 Cards
+1 Buy
Each other player discards an Action or an Treasure (or reveals they can't), and draws until they have 4 cards in hand.
---
This costs $1 less per an Attack card you have in play.

8 Soldiers Villages are on 4 Armed Smithies.

EDIT: cost changed ($6 was too easy to gain).

Does Soldier's Village need the attack type? It doesn't appear to attack at all

I wanted to make it's Supply an Action-Attack pile and reduce Armed Smithy's cost cheaper when Soldiers Village is played.

Soldiers Village pile had 16 copies instead of 10.
This isn't really an "Attack" card as it doesn't do anything to other players. Being able to Village play other attacks is a pretty good idea, but the card itself is just that, a village. With a bottom split pile card this could work well though.

Nice idea to split!  I'll make the bottom card.

What is the key card which can give you infinite vps on turn 1? (You can also use other cards.)

I'm sure there are ways with Triumph.

Oh, I didn't notice that.  I was thinking Emporium.

My Submission:

Quote
Costermonger • $5 • Action
+1 Card
+1 Action
+$1
This turn, you may buy and gain Fruit as if it were in the Supply.

Quote
Apples • $1* • Treasure - Fruit
$1
+1 Buy

(This is not in the Supply.)
Quote
Cherries • $4* • Treasure - Fruit
$2
+1 Buy

(This is not in the Supply.)
Quote
Mangos • $7* • Treasure - Fruit
$3
+1 Buy

(This is not in the Supply.)

My submission is fairly straightforward. Costermonger is a peddler variant that allows a player to buy or gain Fruit. Each Fruit corresponds to a basic Treasure, costing $1 more and giving +1 Buy in addition to the normal payload. There are 10 copies of each Fruit (and 10 Costermongers, obvi).

FAQ:
  • Costermonger is an Action card that allows the player who plays it to buy or gain Fruit cards.
  • There are three Fruit cards: Apples, Cherries, and Mangos. In games using Costermonger, include Apples, Cherries, and Mangos.
  • Like any card not in the Supply, players cannot generally buy Fruit cards during the Buy phase or gain them using cards or landscapes that say "gain" (e.g. Workshop).
  • However, once a player plays a Costermonger's ability, for the rest of the turn they treat the Apples, Cherries, and Mangos as if they were cards in the Supply for the purposes of buying and gaining cards.
  • Once this happens, the effect continues until the end of the turn, and is not optional. For example, if a player plays Costermonger then plays Upgrade (from Intrigue) and trashes a Copper, they must gain an Apples if available (although, had they not played Costermonger first, they would gain nothing).
  • An empty Apples, Cherries, and/or Mangos pile does not count towards an end-of-game condition, even at the end of a turn in which a Costermonger was played.

Who wants to buy Apples or Cherries via 5-cost Action card?  Just buying a Market instead of Costermonger is much stronger.  I think Costermonger needs more incentive to be bought, like Treasures cost $1 less this turn.

The Project is Guildhall, if you're like me and don't recognize landscape art.

2 cards and 1 landscape,  I should have said.  3 cards or card-shaped thing.

Maybe we should have another rule: when the judge cannot post the result within 7 days after submission closing, the participants can decide who will hold the next contest.

I think faust is nice to host another contest.  Is there anyone who will like to host, or recommend another person?

Gain a Fortress from Trash.

Note: Putting it into your hand is not gaining.
I think this should work:

Trash a Fortress on your turn with Market Square in hand.
Two when-trash triggers: MS & Fortress. Choose to resolve MS first.
Gain Gold from MS, use Architect's Guild to gain Rogue, use Innovation to play Rogue gaining Fortress.

Nice. My solution is, "play Count to trash Fortress and Lich".

I was going to bring a game log from dominion.games, but it looks like Livery is bugged there with City-State.

I know that bug.  Maybe we need Berserker to do this crazy combo on dominion.games.
Now I am trying to invent 5-or-less card combo for 3 pile ending on turn 1.

I noticed we can empty 3 Supply piles without Livery.
See Game #110804566.

In this way, we can gain and play Livery to pile out everything unless there are many Debt cards or Potion-cost cards!

(How) can I retrieve the game log given the game number?

Checking now, this game won't actually reload, there's an "internal error" bug when I try to do it, but in other cases:

You can't get a text log really, but if you have a subscription you can create a table, load old game, put in the game number and use Load from End.

I see, thanks for the info. I was wondering how you got started with Cavalry instead of Port, but I've now figured it out myself (buy Caravan, Butterfly into Guildmaster twice, assuming you have at least 5 Coppers among your first 7 cards).

If I've calculated correctly, buying and (when possible) playing all basic cards and the four required kingdom card piles leaves you with only $278-$250=$28, so there's many cases where you can't empty the supply without further support:
 - at least one 8 debt card or $3P+ card is in the supply
 - a $7+ Action card is in the supply, but no $6 Action
 - Platinum/Colony
 - at least one $3 kingdom card other than Importer is in the supply (and no $2 Actions)
 - three or more $2-$3 kingdom cards other than Importer are in the supply
 - 2 or more Potion cost cards are in the supply

and a few other combinations.

But either of Bridge, another stackable cost reducer, Nomads or Training would take care of all cases except the last one. (With Bridge, you can use the whole $278 to buy the debt cards, except in the extremely unlikely case of all 4 pure debt cards being present.)

Almost correct.

 - a $7 card is in the supply, but no $6 Action

If King's Court, King's Court Guildmasters and Liveries.  Butterflies will let you play more.
If Expand, Expand 9 Cavalries.
If Bank, you can earn more.
If Peddler, buy for free.
If Prince... who wants to buy? The game ends in this turn.

Mandarin solves all problems.

There are some bad cases if you don't restrict the remainder of the kingdom somewhat, it either needs enough $4/$5/$6 piles or other stuff that can supplement payload. You won't always have enough money to empty the supply, like if City Quarter, Royal Blacksmith, Overlord, Golem, and Possession are the rest of the kingdom. (This is true of the cost reducer angles as well).

Maybe we need Nomads.

The Province pileout with any $5 gainer + $6 action + $7 action instead of Livery is sort of cute too.

Indeed. :D I think you might be able to empty the whole supply if you also add Seaway (putting the +Buy token on Port) and a kingdom card costing $4+ that gives you the buy for it.

Actually, just adding Forum and a cost reducer like Bridge to the OP's kingdom suffices to empty the supply, as you can gain Forum and return it to the supply infinitely often for unlimited +Buys. So that's an 8-card combo to empty the supply on turn 1 (with probability 50%, as you need to draw at least 4 Coppers).

No. 6-card combo to empty the Supply on turn 1 (with probability 11/24). Use Cavalry instead of Port.

No. Just add Berserker to kick off.

buy Port
-gain Port
--butterfly it
---gain Guildmaster
----play it
----+1 Favor
--+1 Favor
--gain Port
---+1 Favor
---butterfly
----gain Berserker instead of Livery
-----+1 Favor
-----play it (Guildmaster is in play)
------gain Port
-------+1 Favor
-------butterfly it
--------gain Livery
---------+1 Favor
---------play it
-------gain Port
--------+1 Favor
--------gain Horse
---------+1 Favor
---------butterfly it
----------gain Guildmaster
-----------+1 Favor
-----------play it
-----------+1 Favor

We have a Horse to gain.

I have 2 Favors.  City-state is used in this game.

Q1. I gain a Guildmaster and spend 2 Favors to play it.  Do I get +1 Favor?

Q2. I gain a Livery and spend 2 Favors to play it.  Do I gain a Horse?

Boon - Hex
Choose one: discard down to 4 cards in hand; or gain a Curse.  Each other player does the unchosen one.

How do you get all the supply cards costing at most $3, and all Provinces?

Good question.  I thought I need more Kingdom cards to wipe out.

We don't have to have all cards in deck.  Stonemason useless cards to gain more cards.

Pile out Golds.
Play all of the Horses normally.
Infinite Buys lets you gain 53 Coppers.
Buy a Province.  Butterfly Horse you gain to gain a Cavalry (Butterfly it to return), which let's you gain another Horse.  Repeat until you draw everything.
Play all Coppers and Golds.
Buy a Province to wipe out all Pookas.
Draw them, using Horses and Cavalries.
Buy a Stonemason, overpaying $2.
Gain 3 Stonemasons to play, trash Pookas for Silvers.
Repeat it twice.
Buy all Silvers.
Buy a Province to draw them.
Play them.
Buy all Curses, Estates, Importers and Provinces and wipe out everything!

EDIT: We even don't have to trash a card to pile out.  I will upgrade the log.
