Rules Questions / Re: Debt
« on: June 28, 2016, 06:03:20 am »
Another question about Debt.
Quote
Players cannot just take Debt tokens for no reason.
Wine Merchant is on my Tavern mat. 4 coins are unspent. I buy Engineer. Must I pay $4 immediately? Or can I just pay $2 and discard Wine Merchant, leaving 2 debt tokens?
This is not taking Debt "for no reason." The cost of Engineer is "take 4 Debt," and you will do this regardless of how many coins you may have. The game doesn't even want to know how many coins you have, it just wants you to take the Debt. Then you have an opportunity to remove any of your Debt, but technically nothing requires you to ever actually do so. It's just that in most cases you probably want to.

In practice, many people will probably only take tokens for the Debt they can't immediately pay, but it's beneficial to remember what is actually happening.
Quote
A player removes Debt tokens in the player's Buy phase by paying $1 per Debt token to remove it; this is done after playing Treasures, but can be done both before and after buying cards.
I thought this meant to say I have to play at least 1 Treasure in Buy-phase. Incorrect?

I see what you're saying. But no, even if you don't play any treasures, things still happen "after playing Treasures". Similarly, I might tell someone "after you play all your actions, you move on to your buy phase". They get to move on to their buy phase even if they played no actions at all.
Thanks for your advice.

I have 4 debt tokens. I play Wine Merchant. No Treasure is in play, nor in hand. Can I remove my debt tokens?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Native Village & Bridge Troll

Hermit and bridge troll is a combo on its own too.
Oh, I didn't know that. You mean, "play BTs on the previous turn, play some Madmans to draw whole my deck, play 4 BT, play a few Hermits to gain Provinces", right? I think this is very hard because of two reasons.
1. To gain Madman, I need to trash Hermit, which I need to gain Province. But other players also buy Hermits to trash Estates. Can I gain enough Hermits?
2. BT costs $5 and is an Attack card. Collecting 5 BTs is hard because I have to earn $6 (without any BTs in play) from a hand full of junks (unplayable Madmans, Hermits).

I revealed Fortune when my opponent played Saboteur.

EDIT: Or maybe I got the question wrong. What is an "Overload"?
Oops! Misspelled! Overlord, a card from Empire. Sorry.

EDIT: I misunderstood debt payment. I thought "playing Poor House immediately removes 4 tokens, then fails to subtract $4", but that was not true.

New one.

I had 8 debt tokens.
I had an Overload Overlord and 4 Coppers in hand.
I only played them in this turn to pay all my debt.
However, actually, I defaulted some money.
What Action did I play using Overload Overlord?

Hint: Dark Ages

Edit: fixed wording. a little harder.

Dominion General Discussion / Native Village & Bridge Troll
« on: June 22, 2016, 05:20:06 am »
Yesterday I met a very fun game.

Quote
Supply: Candlestick Maker, Haven, Native Village, Hermit, Jack of All Trades, Bridge Troll, Council Room, Ghost Ship, Lost City, Stables. No Shelters, no Colony/Platinum.

I wonder when "big-bridge"(NV/Bridge Troll) is strong. Only NV and BT, this combo is too weak. Workshop? Ridiculous! (You need only 4 BT, some WS.) Then, how about Hermit? Needs more help?

Just 105... I play Japanese version, so cannot spell English name like Apothecary (in Japanese, it is 薬師) without a Dictionary.
Maybe I should make Japanese version for players like Iriho.

If you buy Summon T1 on Amb, you can Ambassador things off T2, and buy Amb while ditching the two Estates. Here's what would happen:

T1: 5c
buy Summon > Ambassador
T2: 2C, 3E
play Amb, return 2E, Alms gain Amb
T3: Amb, 1E, 3C
play Amb, return 2C
Alms Encampment
T4: 3C, Amb, Enc
Enc (c, Amb), return Enc
Amb 2C, Amb 2C
Alms Enc
T5: E, C, Enc, Amb, Amb
Enc, return Enc
Amb e, Amb c
buy Overlord
T6: Overlord > Amb, return 2 Amb
T7: Overlord Enc

Only Alms needed, BoM is a mistake, Overlord can do the same thing and for free, as long as you don't need to gain anything anymore.
Oh, Great! With Events, shortened! I will find a way without Empire.

Kingdom: Encampment, Ambassador, Baker, Band of Misfits

T1: hand: 5C
buy BoM
T2: hand: 2C, 3E
use a coin token
buy Ambassador
T3: hand: Amb, 3E, C
play Amb to return 2E
T4: hand: BoM, 4C
play BoM as Amb to return 2C
buy Enc
T5: hand: 2C, Enc, Amb, BoM
play Enc to draw C, E, return Enc
play Amb to return E
play BoM as Amb to return 2C
T6: hand: 2C, BoM, Amb
play Amb to return 2C
T7: hand: BoM, Amb
play BoM as Amb to return Amb
T8: hand: BoM
play BoM as Enc, return BoM

Can it be shorten?

Commue
Types: Action
Cost: $5
-1 Buy
Gain a card costing up to 5 and put it on top of your deck.
What is -1 Buy? Can I gain 7 Duchies when I
King's Court-King's Court-Commue-Commue-Woodcutter?

Boomtown
Types: Action
Cost: $4
Reveal cards from the top of your deck until you reveal an Action card. Discard the other cards and play the revealed Action card.
Similar to Sage. Is it worth cost4?

Uh, buy Villa, which has the +Card Token on it. Play it drawing a Fortress?

Hey, that's another solution.

My second solution is buy Bonfire, trashing a Cultist, and drawing a Fortress.
Very similar to mine. Trashing 2 Rats to draw 2 Rats.
Buy Doctor, overpaying $2, trashing 2 Rats, drawing Squire and Bank. Buy Villa. Play it. Play Squire to choose +2 Buys. Play Bank to earn extra $16. Buy 4 Farmlands.
(In Action phase) call Royal Carriage to replay Horse Trader 3 times.
Haggler is in play. Buy Farmland, resolving Haggler's effect first, gain Villa, putting it into your hand. Trash Villa to gain Farmland. Do this again.
*No Borrow, no Baker, no Ferry, no cost reduction, no durations, no Duplicate.
You mean, no coin token, right?

I inherited Feast.
What happens when I Throned Estates?
It is not an Action when I try to play Estates on the second time. Nothing happens? Or client freezes and I lose the game?
You can't trash in second play, but gain.

Throne Room (and co) remember what it plays; also if the Acton is not in play anymore.

Even though Throne Room remembers what it played, it just remembers the name, doesn't it? Does it remember the ability, too?

I have another one.

City Quarter?

Oh, I didn't know Empire cards, that's another!

Mine was buying 4 Lost Cities in the Possession turn. I draw 4 cards before the cleanup, only to discard them. Very sad.

Another.

I can let you draw 4 cards without spending an Action. Who am I?

Tribute, revealing two Victory cards, at least one of which is also an Action card.

Tribute spends an action when you play it.

Oh, I meant it is non-terminal. So Tribute is ok.

Some answers I prepared:
Cellar (I didn't say "Do not discard or trash anything."), Scout, Tribute, Minion, Madman, Apprentice, Crossloads, Storyteller

Of course, 2 Expeditions are ok, Summoning Hunting Ground is ok. Envoy doesn't let you "draw" technically, so as Native Village, Scrying Pool. Trashing Rats is great.

I have another one.

For the record, how much should Will Smith cost if it were a real card?  I started at <4> and quickly bumped it up to <6>, but I don't have any experience with these cards.  The general rule seems to be that they need to cost a lot, so maybe as much as <8>?
It doesn't let you draw 3 cards on this turn, right? Then, it should cost 4 or <5>. Usually weaker than Haunted Woods.

The ruins pile is empty?
You reveal Trader with an empty Silver pile for the Ruins. Since Trader is a when-would-gain reaction, the Ruins never visit the pile, and since there are no Silvers left, Death Cart is never covered up.
Great!

Another quiz. Mr. Hirotashi first posted in twitter.

Discard your Wine Merchant from play.

You may not buy this card if you have any Copper in play.
This is "really bad cards" thread. This card is not too bad. Works in Prosperity or Empire.

700
How about gaining a Copper in hand non-mandatory? This works in multiplayer games!
