$2 Blinking Castle
Turn your journey token over (it starts face up).
Then if it's face up, +$1, +1 Buy,+2 cards and +2 Actions.
Blinking Castle is on average a Market so definitely too cheap for $2.
By my math, each pair of Blinking Castles cost you 2 actions to play and 2 cards to draw and gives you back those 2 actions and cards, so each pair nets you +$1 and +1 buy. Each pair, not copy, has the same net benefit as one Market.
What a blunder by me, you are of course totally right.
Now the question is whether a half-Market is balanced at $2 or $3. I'd tend towards $3 but I am not sure.

Pawn is a half-Market, and it's sold for $2!  ;D

So, I "get" a coin token when I play a Baker while I am possessed, right? Rule changed AGAIN?

Not "again".  This is consistent with the second edition wording of Possession that also tells you to gain all tokens the Possessed player would gain.

Nay, as of now, it is the Posessee, not the Possessor who gains the coin tokens, or any non-debt token for that matter.

I actually think PPS's final vote was the winning play. What a way to make us feel faust was in fact town!

Good game y'all!
Retrospect: The Robz-thinking-PPS-scummy deal should have given Robz towncred. After all, mafia would be thinking more about the contents of their posts, and therefore would be less likely to make mistakes like that. (yes, yes, WIFOM aside, blahh)

More specifically, you need to add "..a card, if it is.." to the when gain statement. Right now the otherwise clause reads "If you don't gain an Action or Treasure, put it [no antecedent] on top of your deck"

Artefact needs some rewording. As of now, the "Otherwise" clause is completely nonsensical.

Fooling Gold
Treasure
Cost: $2

When you play this, gain a Fooling gold. Worth $3 if it's the first time you played a Fooling Gold this turn, otherwise worth $0.

(There are 20 copies in the Fooling Gold pile.)

I like the philosophy, but feel this is backwards.
It should be worth 3$ if you've already played a real gold, and 0$ otherwise.
You have to prove you are trustworthy before you hand out the fake stuff.

Like the markets in china, where the first couple of beers they sell you are legit, and once you're a little buzzed they throw in the counterfeits

I actually thought about a Cursed Gold variant here. Polluting your deck with useless treasure cards is not as nice as it seems at the first moment. The cost of $2 is correct, as this card is self-replicating and $3 would make it too strong for Remodel, Mine, Salvager and other trash-for-benefit cards.

You made a good joke on Fool's Gold, while weesh is working on reinventing it

Variant 2:

Non-Reaction card: Island
Kingdom:
Shelters: Yes. Colonies: Yes. Events: Donate, Alms. Kingdom Cards: Secret Chamber, Watchtower, Caravan Guard, Market Square, Villa, Cultist, Island, Faithful Hound
The setup is nigh identical. Using Alms to gain these cards, Donate to trash the non-reactions, and the gained Guards to pay back Debt,we grow to a deck of 10xCaravan Guard, 9xMarket Square(we don't need 10 buys, but why not?), Watchtower, Secret Chamber, Hovel. Note that this means that after playing all of our cantrips, we will always have only Watchtower, Secret Chamber, and Hovel in our hand. (Now secretly we could have bought the first 7 Colony/(Alms for) Island pairs had we not gained Watchtower, but why not gain them all the fancy way?). Note too that we are specifically playing all of our Caravan Guards in one turn, leading to a current monetary total alternating between $0 and $10. We still don't have quite enough money for what we need yet (a way to gain and then set aside the final colony within a singular turn), as such, we turn to our favorite blue dog to walk, Faithful Hound, and boy is are they going to need some walking. For our next 9 gains (whether they be using our dollars or our ever present friend, Alms), we're going to buy a Faithful Hound in our buy phase, and then in our next action phase (post-cantrips, when we have a hand of Watchtower, Secret Chamber, Hovel, and Hounds) use Secret Chamber to discard all of our Faithful Hounds, slowly adding them to all successive starting hands. Now with a guaranteed $20 (every other turn) and as many buys as we could desire, we're ready to begin gaining colonies. The final turn cycle, which we repeat 8 times, is as follows:

Setup turn:
Hand Consisting of 9xFaithful Hound, and at least two cantrips, with no more than 3 non-cantrips in deck
Use Market Square and Caravan Guard until no more remain in hand, leaving a hand of:
9xFaithful Hound, Watchtower, Secret Chamber, Hovel
Secret Chamber the Hounds, setting all of them aside
Cleanup, Draw 5 cards, then put 9xFaithful Hound in your hand

Colony Turn:
All 10 Caravan Guard give you $1 ($10 so far)
Play Market Square until no more remain in hand, leaving a hand of:
9xFaithful Hand, Watchtower, Secret Chamber, Hovel
Secret Chamber the Hounds and the Hovel, setting aside the Hounds ($20 total)
Buy Colony, topdecking it ($9 remaining)
Alms Island, topdecking it ($9 remaining)
Buy Cultist, trashing it , drawing Colony and Island ($4 remaining)
Buy Villa, trashing it, giving us +1 Action and returning us to the Action phase ($0 remaining)
Island away the Colony
Cleanup, return 9xFaithful Hounds to hand

Fun notes about this solution:
We could optimize this heavily by not gaining the Watchtower as early as we did, as previously mentioned, allowing us to both Island away the first 7 Colonies faster as well as safely buy multiple Faithful Hounds per turn
Additionally, we can avoid a few Faithful Hound gains by using spare Market Squares instead of Cultist to draw Island + Colony on the Colony turn. Note that with a deck of 3 stop cards and Market Squares, we will always be able to have an empty deck with two cantrips in hand

Variant 1:

Kingdom: Caravan Guard, Tunnel, another Reaction, 7 other cards, Alms, Donate
A slow Alms to the finish. Since we just need to break 3 points, the majority of our time will be slowly draining 3 piles, rather than worrying about score.
Alms for Caravan Guards, Donate everything but the Caravan Guards, use Caravan Guards to pay off the debt, Alms for the rest of the Caravan Guards, all of the Tunnels, and a third reaction pile (note that any of them will do as they all cost 4 or less!)

Fool's Gold would inarguably make this faster (immediately pay off debt and still buy a card with 4 of them, finishing a whole turn before the Caravan Guard train), but we're workin' with all the conceptual time in the world, why not sit down and relax an extra turn?

vote: PPS?

In other news I apparently broke a rule ( ??? ) by asking a third party for advice about this game? Which, I guess, I'd like a third opinion on

ye in general talking about the game with other people and especially having that affect the game isn't allowed. i'm not gonna penalize it - it is within the realm of stuff people are okay with considering the idea of hydra accounts - but in this case there is an assumption you're not going to do that. i guess the rules don't forbid communication with non-players

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Nocturne Cards: Cursed Village
« on: March 17, 2018, 12:39:09 am »
The discussion of when it's used best, how to use it well (although it's a village, you want to have a lot of nonterminals to make sure it actually draws you a reasonable number of cards, and it with terminal draw tends to turn it into a necropolis more often than you'd like), led me down the path of remembrance of another card.

Cursed Village isn't a Lost City, it's a Shanty Town!

my thoughts on the matter were that town would want to explain things right away, even rushing past a hammer to do so, while scum might want to wait until after a chance to confer with their partner to give a response to why they thought pps was town

not a big thing by any means, and wifom besides, I thought that gaining that little bit was as good a reason as any to end the day at this point

the confirmation bit i didn't quite understand

You can always ask him tomorrow, assuming he doesn't rush to post a response right now, which I decided is a more helpful answer than one we slowly wait for before ending the day

If we all agree Faust is scum, let’s lynch Faust now rather than pps.

why are you so sure pps is town?

so like, for example discussion-wise, it might be cool if Robz answered this before someone ended the day

I actually think this makes a great stopping point for the day. Robz will convince nobody, but sure will get the last laugh if town dies with vote: PPS

I'm thinking of pushing Robz tomorrow, since I think he's scum and don't know for sure on Cuzz/Faust.

Ghacob, what do you think? Good plan?

Sounds as good as any. Remember to get all your thoughts out pre-hammer for a final night of... mcmc/Cuzz/Faust? hm...

It may be in y'alls best interest to let a bit more discussion happen so you can get a better idea of what's going on before the final night. Think about it tonight. I encourage town to spend the night getting a better grip on what's going on and how you're pushing what, because scum will most certainly be doing so.

In lighter news, names are bad. If I could change my forum username (I can't, right?) I would love to

Theorel changed shecantsayno SCSN for him.
Right, that did happen. Thanks, I'll work on it.

I am exhausted and want the day to be over butnrecognize that is selfish of me.
Nah, that's reasonable. I feel like we got our words out already and we're about to either lose or y'all'll have a bunch of time to talk what to do next, tomorrow. Prolonging the day just feels like giving scum and extra 48 hours to think and plan for the future.

I am exhausted and want the day to be over butnrecognize that is selfish of me.

scum wants it to be over too! at least one of them is already bussing. they have already conceded a scum lynch today. it is then strictly better for them to have the day end sooner rather than later because then we miss out on however much reads and discussion we can force everyone to share before we hammer pps.

If you want it to be over so bad, you hammer pps!  ;D

Ghacob could post why they think Cuzz or Faust is scummy. That might help.

frick, both?? I'm honestly looking forward to dying tonight so I don't have to think about it anymore
But I agree with your analysis that what Cuzz is doing now is strategically identical to Robbz's "I won't vote"

It's very much worth rereading faust's D2. How does he as a VT justify voting for a claimed PR so early? Does the whole series of interactions between faust and PPS look like scum/scum interactions?

PPE: many, which I then added to the post responding to

faust, while not giving the commanding town presence that I'd *like*, did correctly tell me who I should have protected last night... I thought?

there was definitely a post someone made after my attempt at a massclaim that was like "great you've done nothing but IC TWM" which...should be looked into I guess
Everyone's frickin' scummy darnit.

Nay, robz your lack of content is admirable. Not voting in this case does very little for you, as if you're town preventing a mislynch, you should be doing more than proclaiming that you're not contributing to it. That's also a wonderful thought, if that's the case, congrats to ii mcmc and faust for your incredible scum game

Oh that's another thought, that my townread of ii is also from aforementioned friend, who chuckled and said "yeah they're town" upon reading your reveal/claim/whatever, so *don't let him down!*

I dunno y'all, I guess we've either done it or we haven't (oh no hedging, clearly not coming from fear and uncertainty)
Any last thoughts before I hit the hammer?

PPS: 6 good luck y'all

Partial feeling of giving up starting mid this game day, mostly because it only more recently hit me how much losing TWM hurt us, and how easily I could have prevented that

Way back last week, I got a friend to does mafia on mafiascum (and recognized at least of few of y'all?) to give me a hand with reads and all that. His thoughts on people that are still alive (that I remember!) are: there is scum among (faust, pps), cuzz has said scummy things,  from yesterday, he called pps as scum fakeclaiming odd night cop, which I'm told is a sign "guaranteed scum", which is how I 'called' it here:
schadd I swear if you actually put an actual odd night cop into this setup...

julie i swear it's so hard to bear it
thanks schadd for the extra WIFOM from that by the way
