Dominion General Discussion / Re: Kingdom Randomizers

Another good one for Android is Kingdom Shuffler.  Unfortunately, I've never found an online shuffler that measured up to the best of the apps available.

Rules Questions / Re: Order of Resolution with Imp and Royal Carriage

Got it.  What you describe (what I called the container scenario) is how I thought it should work last night, but my opponent felt more strongly about his interpretation than I did mine, so we went with his.  Glad to know I was right.  Thanks.

Rules Questions / Order of Resolution with Imp and Royal Carriage
« on: August 29, 2018, 02:17:30 pm »
I had a scenario come up last night that appeared to have two plausible paths to resolution.

With a Royal Carriage already on my Tavern Mat, I played an Imp, drew 2 cards and then using Imp's ability, played a Border Village.  I then wanted to call my RC to replay the just resolved action, but wasn't sure which of the 2 action I had just resolved.

--Imp as a trigger for the play of BV
Was Imp fully resolved as soon as I put BV in play, but before BV was resolved, meaning that RC could only replay BV?

OR

--Imp as a container for the play of BV
Was Imp not resolved until after the card it allowed me to play was resolved, meaning that RC could replay either BV or Imp?

We went with the first option, but agreed it was worth looking into further.  RC's use of "Action card" rather than just "Action" makes me think we made the right call, but when I think of similar scenarios with Golem, TR or KC, I'm unsure.

Thanks in advance.

Any chance on seeing an update pack for Guilds with the "coin tokens" -> "coffers" cards?  If the new expansion is going to call them coffers, we are going to have cards with both terms in the box unless we rebuy Guilds + Cornucopia
I see what you're saying. We haven't considered it at all. There would need to be sufficient demand, which seems unlikely for rewordings with no new cards or art.

I'd buy it, for what that's worth. I'm already considering getting a second copy of Guilds/Cornucopia mostly for this reason, though I haven't yet convinced myself that it's worth it. An update pack would be a definite purchase.

If we're talking about a pack that has the updated cards along with the 2 new mats, then yeah, I'd certainly buy that.

I'm seeing the origin of a legacy-style campaign expansion here.  Time to start tearing up cards, I guess.

Technically, that should be "number of whooshes." It could also be "quantity of whooshes", but that suggests a more formal setting and...yeah...whoosh.

Is it important that anything we really post is actually that funny?

What timing.  This past Saturday, after years of playing this game mind you, my wife played a Candlestick Maker, took her coin token, and asked where her coin token mat was.  She was very upset when I told here there wasn't one.  Now, when I needlessly buy the 2E version because I want all the new shiny, I can say I was just trying to make her happy.

Rules Questions / Re: Royal Carriage and Crown
« on: January 05, 2018, 07:45:41 pm »
I know it's always an Action card. I was just mis-remembering how the card does what it does and thought there was some need to differentiate between an Action Card and an Action. I see that there is not.

It wouldn't actually do anything though, right?

You can call it after an Action card is played to replay THAT Action.  If you play an Action card that doesn't result in an Action being taken, such as Crown in the buy phase, what Action is it that can be replayed?

EDIT: Never mind, it does result in an Action being taken.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Nocturne: Yay or nay?
« on: January 02, 2018, 11:43:16 pm »
Absolutely, I like it.  It isn't perfect.  It isn't my favorite expansion.  It is, however, very good and lots of fun.

I've said before that I've enjoyed every expansion to date and will therefore continue to buy anything Donald designs for this game until such time as he gives me a reason not to.  Nocturne is not even close to that.

Forgetting to do stuff at discard is the mistake I make more often that any other, by a long shot, so I welcome anything that will help me not do that.  The Night phase fits the bill.
I'm used to paying attention to what I'm discarding from play during clean-up. There have been cards that behave specially during clean-up ever since Seaside.
I've been playing long enough that I should be in the habit of paying attention to what I discard too.  Maybe I'll make working on that my new year's resolution.  Still, I like the fact that we got the Night phase to give us some of that same functionality without exacerbating my shortcomings.

A better option would be to just not play with 4 players. ;)

Everybody knows 4-player Dominion is kind of.. meh. Dominion is balanced for two players.

Everybody knows that some people think that, but not everybody thinks that.

Certainly, how Dominion plays varies a lot depending on player count, and you have to approach games differently with different counts.  But those games are still enjoyable, so that's a feature, not a bug.  Now, I have played Dominion with 5-6 players, and those games, I haven't really enjoyed.  Everything below that though, I'm on board.

So I mean, I think you simply experienced an actual problem; Fool is too slow when you're not used to the Boons.
My experience supports this "new-to-the-set" idea.  My first game (2P) included Fool and resolving the Boons did take a little while.  Since then, every game I've played has included Boons and a couple, Fool, so we've had time to get familiar with those cards.  It makes a huge difference.  We zip right through the Boons now.  I mean, Fool is always going to be slow (except when it isn't), but not painfully so once the Boons are familiar (please note the lower case "f").

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Tom Vasel Nocturne Review
« on: December 18, 2017, 10:13:47 am »
My wife and I fall into that mass of non-expert Dominion players that Nocturne was aimed at and we are certainly enjoying it. It's not my favorite expansion (hi, Adventures) but it is a good one.  That's not to say that some of Tom Vasel's observations weren't accurate.  Some Nocturne cards do require a bit more work during setup (though a good shuffler app mitigates this almost entirely), some cards do add more things to do during a given turn (I refuse to use the term fiddly here because that implies bad, unnecessary things), and some of the cards do lengthen games.  Neither my wife nor I really care about any of those things though, and I think that's where Vasel was off the mark.  I realize we're only two data points, but I think we're probably more representative of your typical, casual Dominion player than Tom Vasel.

I am from the south and pronounce Dominion very differently from Tom Vasel.  You have my hypothesis backwards.

Yeah, I misread it. But I'm from the south, so what do you expect?

Do people usually pronounce Dominion with a long o at the beginning? Is it a southern thing that I use the upside down e sound, u in circus?

Not a southern thing.  Born, raised and still living in the south, and no one I know pronounces it the way Vasel does.

I ordered from Amazon and their website says it will be delivered today by 8 PM. I live in the northwest where Amazon is but the product, strangely enough, shipped out of Michigan and just left Illinois this morning according to UPS. I'm having a hard time believing it will be delivered today by 8 PM.

Same situation here.  Amazon was initially saying today by 8 pm, then changed it to "Arriving Nov 22 - Nov 24".  UPS says it will be Friday by end of day.  As of an hour ago, my copy was still in Rockford, IL, so as much as I hate it, I think UPS has the correct estimate.

Got my copy today and after a few games, I am loving this expansion.  The cards have this, how do I say it, this ambiguous synergy with one another that's just, well, it's special. Can't wait to play more.

Dominion: Nocturne Previews / Re: Has Nocturne Shipped?
« on: November 21, 2017, 05:45:26 pm »
My FLGS told me yesterday that it was definitely on its way to them and, in fact, they thought it should have arrived already. So basically, they were expecting it at any time.

Also, as mentioned, Amazon does have it in stock with Prime shipping available.

Dominion: Nocturne Previews / Re: Is there any update on Nocturne?

I haven't heard anything new since...

There was a delay shipping the trays, and we now expect Nocturne to ship (from RGG) on November 13.

...so the wait is almost over.
