Variants and Fan Cards / Re: A mad Traveller chain

By the time you get Flying Machine, if you're playing an engine deck, you should be drawing or near to drawing your deck already. It might not be that strong for the amount of investment required.

152
As of now, no, unfortunately.

Walled village isn't particularly interesting of a card, at least.

Game Reports / Wharf BM vs Engine

Came down to the wire and a few lucky (?) draws. I feel like the engine was the correct call (given that I went for it), but were there flaws in my execution?

Dear kiliana,
Sorry that I ended up winning despite my 2 masquerades colliding EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Clearly the answer is it rush duchies with transmute support, piling transmute/duchy/duchess.

Smugglers gets interesting in an alt-vp rush, though. Would it be worthwhile to pick it up in a rebuild game?

I'm somewhat skeptical of its strength, too. No reasonable amount of estates would beat a 5-3 duchy split; I suppose it may have a favorable matchup to turbo rebuild in a 4-4 split when there's some quick way to amass estates?

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it, but it looks as if this has a pretty nasty combination with Possession.

Fuck it all and go igg/duchy rush? Ah wait cities would destroy that.
I think this board would have to be highly reactionary. I think something like an igg start into possession if opponent goes cities may work, igg is pretty bad for a possessor.

An option to play multiple coin tokens quickly would be nice in merchant guild games especially.

Did I miss where Robz explains how it combos with Scout?  That's the only reason these previews exist for me.
Yes.

Actually I think Gherald's comparison is valid, in that both the draw variant storyteller and the pearl diver + cantrip + storyteller combo allow you to search 5 cards for treasures to discard (the latter looking through the 2 cards in hand, the card drawn by PD, the new top card and the bottom card). I think there's sone degree of disagreement about the strength of this scrying effect,  though, where one side feels that there's a significant chance that the extra card searched is a treasure, and the bonus in that case is significant (extra cards drawn), while Gherald feels that the scrying effect is entirely negligible in the case when the extra card either isn't a treasure, or 3 treasures are already within the initial 4 cards. I suspect that Gherald may be underestimating either the bonuses gained from success case (picking up an additional useful treasure from the "pearl diver") or the chance of actually hitting the success case.

I wonder if Storyteller and Poor House can be a thing. Anyway, this is a fun card. Seems to be at the right power level.

Now, Magpie on the other hand seems OP. We seem to have a lot of powerful $4 lab cards with Ironmonger, Herlad and now this. And, to think there was once a time when Caravan was considered super good.
This is a 5-cost, though.

The difference being 1 card's worth of sifting is entirely correct, yet misconstrusive in this context; having the sift be right before the draw has much more of and impact than a 1-card sift in a vacuum.

171
Is it just me or will Big Money Magpie be a thing?
It'll be hard to trigger the self-gain, though. They'll be no better than wishing wells for BM till you start accumulating a decent amount of silvers/golds. They also conflict with terminal draw.

172
Would exchanging rule out scheme shenanigans like with hermit?

Help! / Re: Bad play or just a really awful draw?
« on: March 27, 2015, 12:38:48 am »
I don't have much confidence in saying precisely what went wrong, but the difference in trashing (3 estates vs. 1 estate and a copper) probably made a fairly big difference in the reliability. And 2 horse traders may not be too terrible of an idea (though I disagree too), since colliding them isn't  that bad.

Edit: Evidently I don't know how this forum works. I'll just leave my *totally impractical* solution here, though:

Kingdom: Oracle, Procession, Baron, Fortress, Catacombs, Graverobber, Mint, Nobles, Border Village, KC

Open Procession/Oracle.
Turn 3: Draw Procession, Oracle and 3 coppers, processing the oracle into a fortress, discarding 2 estates and drawing 4 coppers. Buy a KC.
Turn 4: Draw Estate, KC Procession Fortress Copper. KC Procession Fortress 3 times, drawing 6 coppers, gaining 2 graverobbers and a Catacombs. Buy a KC.
Turn 5: Draw KC, KC, Catacombs and the 2 estates left in the draw pile. Play KC KC Cata, drawing 2 graverobbers, a fortress, 7 coppers, and discarding 2 estates. The draw pile contains 1 estate. Use the 2nd and 3rd KCs on graverobbers, remodeling the fortress 6 times, into 1 nobles, 1 border village-nobles, 1 procession, 1 Catacombs, 1 baron, and a fortress. Buy a mint, trashing all the coppers.
Turn 6: Draw Crossroads, Procession, a Catacombs, and a Nobles. Play fortress, drawing the Baron. Procession the Catacombs, drawing KC, KC, Baron, the 3 estates, and the other procession, gaining Procession and a Baron off a Border Village. Draw a KC off the fortress. You now have KC, KC, Baron, 3xEstate, Procession, Nobles. Play KC KC Baron, discarding the estates, then Procession, processing first the nobles (drawing the Catacombs, a Graverobber, the second Nobles, the second Baron, the second Procession, and the mint, gaining KC), then the Catacombs (drawing the KC, the second Graverobber, and the estates, gaining Baron and Border Village, gaining Procession), then the Graverobber (rescuing the Nobles and the Catacombs, gaining Nobles). We can then repeat this (rescuing Graverobber/Catacombs instead of Nobles/Catacombs) until the KC/Nobles/Procession piles run out, by which we will have played KC barons 8 times.
