Goons + doctor
Play a bunch of goons buy a bunch of copper doctor trash it. This requires you too draw your deck.

To clarify you mean Doctor overpay? So it requires you have $3 plus the number of Copper you buy in hand, but your deck state is left as is? That's pretty cool and doable I think.

Transmogrify + Rats

Trash your starting cards (and curses/ruins) with Rats, and turn Rats into 5-cost cards with Transmogrify.

I just played a game with this recently.  It's a lot like Upgrade + Rats, but without the pile-emptying degenerate strategies.  Transmogrify is a little slower to play, but it puts the 5-cost card right into your 6-card hand.  It's especially strong with situational 5-cost cards.  This strategy can be a little dangerous with other sources of card draw; you need the Rats to be in your starting hand to trash them.  I believe this is one of the most powerful Rat synergies.

Another benefit is that unlike Upgrade, you can Transmogrify into $4 cost cards (including more Transmogrify!)

As for the comic, I guess I'm the kind of person who tries to associate as much possible with people who share my interests in the first place.  Does that make me an asshole?  Possibly.

Only if you also try to demean others who are different from you!

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with having friends with mutual interests - but that's not what wero was actually doing - he was saying no one SHOULD have an interest in football, which is pretty shitty!

I got more into football this year in order to have more things to talk about at work with coworkers, and as a tactics / strategy nerd I'm surprised just how deep it is. It seems obvious in retrospect, but it's basically a round based real time strategy game, where the positions of 22 different units drastically affect the results. Athletic ability adds an X-factor to the game that makes it less predictable and ultimately more interesting.

Try new things sometime - you'll be surprised what you find out you like! There was a time in my life when I was a sportsball mocking snob - but now it adds value to my weekend that just wasn't there before.

WW, I assume what makes CSM useful is that you can save up tokens to get Gardens, and never have to bother with Silvers.

I get that. I just don't think it's very good. You open CSM/CSM, you probably get 3 more on turns 3 and 4, you finish them out on turn 7 or so, at which point you have something like 11 coppers, 10 CSM and your 3 estates, right? And then, you don't want to waste any tokens, so if you have $3 or more from just coppers, you get a Gardens, and other than that... estate? Eventually you take your plunge and buy out the Gardens, and the Estates, I suppose. It probably takes, oh, 21 turns, from the start, and you get all the Gardens, CSMs, Estates, and... I'm not sure how many coppers. Probably you have 4 or 5 point Gardens. Let's say you can get to 5. That gives you enough points to equal out all the Provinces. Hooray. On the other hand, most anything respectable can actually empty the Provinces in that amount of time, so I remain pretty unconvinced.

While CSM / Gardens isn't game breaking by any means, you're very much underestimating the number of cards you end up with in your deck with the strategy. You're gaining 10 cards plus the number of turns *per shuffle*, so it isn't at all unheard of to hit 60 cards by turn 17 with a CSM / Gardens slush.

IMO, CSM is a great Gardens enabler, among the best (but no Ironworks). The problem is, Gardens has to be the best strategy on the board for it to work, which is somewhat rare.

Rules Questions / Re: Stonemason and piles with only 1 card

Choose, gain, choose, gain.

This is how I'm tempted to respond too, but other things in Dominion aren't like this. Eg - Steward trashes two cards simeltaneously.

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: The Dominion online 2017 thread
« on: February 01, 2016, 11:15:34 pm »
Will there be any overlap between the two versions, or are we just going to have to hope this new developer is going to have a workable game ready right at the start of the new year?

With well over a year to develop it I wouldn't be surprised if it worked out of the box, but there's been a... poor track record with this stuff in the last two versions.

Dominion Articles / Re: Triple Gear
« on: February 01, 2016, 04:30:18 pm »
So how does this compare to when we thought doubleJack was hot stuff?

Jack defends against attacks (and sustains greening) so double jack was seen as a universal solution. Gear won't do that.

OTOH, Gear is at least two turns faster than Jack on average. Triple Gear has a better best case and a worse worst case.

As for Gear BM being overpowered - I'm thinking that people will find Gear has a lot of utility in building certain engines as well - pass components you don't need this turn to the next turn, optimize Treasures, etc. I think it's just powerful in general.

I'm glad people are acknowledging Gear is super good now instead of going "meh, it's only +2 Cards, I mean Oracle isn't that great..."

Inheritance+Bridge Troll:

Have a Bridge Troll in Play.
Inherit Bridge Troll.
Get multiple Pseudo-Bridge Trolls (estates) at no cost.

In an enginey context (Draw, +actions), it explodes.
The problem is that bridge troll doesn't help you hit 7.

That isn't really a big problem though. You only need 1, you have 2 turns to hit 7, and you're likely in the process of building a big engine if you're trying this strategy, so you should be able to draw part of your deck and hit $7 somewhat quickly.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: MAKiNG MORE FUN: Mod for Dominion Online 2.0
« on: January 31, 2016, 11:23:36 am »
Weird things happen to the mod when you play it at 2880x1620. The buttons get smaller and when you have a hand big enough for the alternate hand layout to be displayed, it covers parts of the (regular, not MMF) interface. I'll take a screenshot the next time this happens. Some option to toggle between the alternate hand layout and the regular one would be cool as a temporary fix (though most of the time when you have a big hand you're not exactly itching to hit the resign button.

I'll be playing two matches this weekend. One at 7 PM tonight against jpgerber and another at 4 PM tomorrow versus mumposaur.

7PM was one hour ago. As in - feel free to specify a timezone.

Sorry about that - 7 PM EST, or, in ten minutes. I may start a few minutes late though, just a heads up.

Edit: Expect me to start 7:10.

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Adventures Cards: Duplicate
« on: January 29, 2016, 09:07:03 am »
I'll say a lot more about Duplicate later, but first I want to chime in with how cwazy this card is in Duke / Duchy games. You buy pretty much just Duplicates and Silver for a shuffle or two, grab all your Duchy and Dukes in just a few turns.

Dominion Articles / Re: Triple Gear
« on: January 28, 2016, 05:53:12 pm »
It also beats most engines!

I don't think Gear / Gear is the best opening though? I think you want Silver / Gear, then 2x more Gear on turns you can't hit $6, then Golds and Provinces. Is that slightly faster? I feel it would be.

Same, keeping in mind I really have no idea what I'm talking about.

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Adventures Cards: Distant Lands
« on: January 24, 2016, 04:20:10 pm »
The thing about Distant Lands that most people mess up on is that they buy them only when they would buy a Duchy. Distant Lands you basically want to only buy when you would not want a Duchy! It's a card that lets you green while you're building and makes the rushing opponent have to work harder to end the game.

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Adventures Cards: Dungeon
« on: January 23, 2016, 08:41:15 am »
I don't like Dungeon. I think it's personal preference, but I just don't like it.

Warehouse isn't a card that you just play at random. You somewhat often decide not to play it, and when you do you carefully choose when to play it to avoid bad shuffles or "wasting" good cards. The duration aspect of Dungeon puts you in a rough place pretty often where you just didn't want to play it but it's there and now you have to deal with it.

Best with light or no trashing, and with cards that need to collide or discard to work (Baron, Tournament, Tunnel)

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Key card or gainer first?
« on: January 23, 2016, 08:38:33 am »
It's really hard to generalize, but - will the gainer get me at least 1 more copy of that card over time versus straight buying the card? Does the gainer have other benefits (trashing, etc)? Can I gain nice but less important things with the gainer? If the answers to these are yes I definitely get the gainer.

Game Reports / Re: Cultist vs. Scrying Poop
« on: January 22, 2016, 01:34:39 pm »
Biggest things I can see helping Scrying Pool versus Cultist are Stonemason, Watchtower, and Peddler. I would open Watchtower / Potion, pick up one more Watchtower on exactly 3 maybe?. Try and get multiple Pools with Stonemason. You should be able to get cheap Peddlers quickly, maybe even 2 of them if you have $4 after playing 3 actions. Stonemason on Peddlers can turn them into Nobles or Duchies, too. I would expect and be ready for a three pile.

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Adventures Cards: Distant Lands
« on: January 19, 2016, 11:36:45 am »
Thanks for starting this thread; I've been too busy with work and other stuff to get these up and running. My plan was to just go alphabetically each weekday.

Distant Lands is, like, really really good. So much better than Island. Like, it's worth delaying Province pickups for several turns to grab Distant Lands if you can have multiple Province turns after you finish building up. If you can set aside Distant Lands while still building an engine (gainers, +Buy, etc) it skews the game heavily toward engines. It's a little bit like how Fairgrounds skews games toward engines, but without the clogging.

And most importantly, there was a board with Scout on it where I didn't buy it and he did buy it, and I won that game.

At slightly after 7 PM EST (30 minutes from now) I'll be playing Roadrunner320854320968043680 in six games of a classic deckbuilding card game. I can't say for sure that there will be a board with Scout on it, where he will buy the card, I won't buy it, and I'll win, but I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. Link is in my signature.
