on a more serious note, I don't really think faust is scummy

I do. I have this theory that Sudgy and Faust are both scum based on their words that they've posted. Sudgy voted for Faust then immediately switched his vote mid post to someone else, making me think that Faust and Sudgy are both scum.

Coin Magnet
$4
Action - Reaction
You may play any number of Coppers from your hand right now. | When another player plays a Copper, you may reveal this from your hand. If you do, remove that Copper from play and put it into your hand.

This card might not be that bad, actually.

It's like a worse Cutpurse where you keep the dumb copper and clear it for your opponent. I'd almost NEVER use that Reaction unless I knew that that Copper was the only thing stopping him from getting something that screws you hard.

But I like the action benefit a bit. It utilizes Watchtower a lot more. Interesting synergy there.

Duchess seems like an obvious fix to me. I'd make it so that you couldn't buy it, but you could gain one when you bought a Duchy. I'd make it just +$2 and +1 Action. It encourages 3 Pile endings to go for Duchies, since buying Duchies is faster. It just seems like an interesting strategy to go for in general, I dunno.

Enough with the ruins cards. >_> They're SOOOOOOO yesterday

No, we must make Action- Curse cards.

Like a card that costs +$4 and is a cantrip with +$2 but is a -1 VP too.

Which is a terrible idea.

I just played a game with Island. I also had a Tactician and Ironworks with Laboratories, so I quickly bought up all the Islands and auctioned them off with my Estates and Coppers, while my opponent simply trashed his Coppers with Moneylender. Overall, he had the better deck, but since I bought up all those Islands and stashed them away early, using Tactician's extra action lending, I was able to pressure my opponent to buy Provinces quickly, which he was not able to do because I could tie and still win. So Island isn't TERRIBLE, but man you'd better have the right deck for it. As is with all cards.

I was worried for a second when you said "bought" the islands.  When I checked the log, I saw that you never actually bought an island, you gained them all from ironworks.  Which is the correct thing to do here.  However, imagine the situation on the board without ironworks here.  You are never going to actually spend a buy getting an island on this board.  (well, maybe late game if you have an awkward 4 or something)  So the point is that ironworks enabled island to be a good card on the board.  Which is true for any card.  There will always be games where even the worst cards are able to shine.  And island isn't even one of the worst cards (37/57 for 4-cost cards)

How on earth did you check the logs?

Deck Disaster

Trash this card, and your entire deck. Gain all Curses. Gain all ruins. Gain all Coppersmiths and Scouts. Your opponent may gain 8 cards from the supply that cost up to $11.

Good for 3-piling, and if you have a lot of Islands stored away, it can be a great way to win! :D

Jack of No Trades

Gain a copper.
Look at the top card of your deck. Put it back.
Draw until you have 4 cards in hand.
You may trash a card from your hand that is a Treasure.

At least Jack of No Trades can trash anything.

Back in the summer, I was in a tense game of Mafia.  IIRC there was a cop, no doctor, 3 mafia.  I was one of them.  We ended up lynching Mafia on the first day because she made a really huge slip up.  She became one of the targets of suspicion and got flustered enough to fakeclaim cop.  Most people started backing off (partially led by me, of course) but some were still doubtful so she tried to bolster her claim by giving a cop result -- she investigated that person and found her to be a regular townie.  Except... it was the first day.  No night yet, thus no chance of an investigation at all.  Obvious lie, easy lynch.

Mafia was on the backfoot from then on.  I can't remember if the cop got a positive result before being eliminated, but I did have to vote against my remaining partner at one point.  But I managed to talk my way out of some sticky situations.  I managed to sway the deciding vote to my side to keep myself in the game, and then I chose to target her rather than either of the people who had been against me.  And then I used that to turn one of those doubters against the other, for the win.  It was easily the best performance I'd ever had in a Mafia game.

You just went in all guns blazing, huh? I had fun reading this. Mafia is awesome.

Vote: faust for not voting for someone who did it before me.

Like chairs.  Vote: chairs.  This that I just mentioned is just icing on the cake.

You're very eager to attack. I think you're trying to look like you're not scum because you're so eager to help. I think Faust is too, because his second vote for chairs overrides his Faust vote.

VOTE: Sudgy

Looks like a very legit game here. I'm going to keep an eye on this for sure.

To be fair, "why don't we no-lynch?" is a question that a lot of newbies ask. And that fact that you're asking these questions is what's making me lean towards the opinion that you're town, since a newbie scum player is more likely to have received some coaching in the scum QT before the game.

Might as well ask another question.

I dunno how to save Game Logs on Dominion online. Y^Y

Venture plays the treasure it finds, and Counterfiet only works on treasures in your hand.

Ah. That's true. That lowers the value a bit, but my question still stands on how valuable this combo is.

Edited my first post, as you cannot use Venture to fish for Copper for Counterfeit to trash.

Welcome!

Basically, I've been stalking you all for some time. Well, long enough to almost join that Dominion League thingy. I missed it I think.

There's a chance to join the League every 6 weeks or so, so you can still join if you want to.

Well, he did join the forums at pretty much the worst possible time for the League, since a new season just recently started so now it's going to take a while before people currently not in the League can get in.

yes, if I've done the Maths right, then I think the next season starts on 1-2 February.

I will be there when it does. Maybe I'll even pull a Qvist and record my matches.

We have a finite number of lynches, and giving one up gives scum an extra NK. If we lynch, there's a chance that we hit scum and a chance we hit town. If we give the kill to scum, there's a 100% chance that it will be a town player.

That was really logical. Duh! I feel dumb.

It goes to show that if you ask a question in a different way or look at it in a different light, it becomes obvious. >_>

Dominion General Discussion / Counterfeit + Venture?
« on: December 19, 2014, 02:01:56 pm »
This combo seems really good if you look at it. You Counterfeit coppers, getting rid of bad coppers and giving an extra buy and bonus cash for it! Soon, as you buy Ventures and stuff, Venture gets more and more powerful as you draw better and better coins, and Counterfeit continues to trash obsolete Copper and soon Silver while adding a +buy to boot. It seems like a deck with this caliber can beat a Smithy+BM deck.

The problem is that you have to get to 5. Not hard, once you get to $5, get a Counterfeit and just trash away Coppers, buying card drawing actions and getting enough money to buy Ventures and Counterfeits. That money quickly adds up to Golds and Platinums even.

So my question is this. Is there a better BM option to be had? How many Engines can this combo beat? It looks really good on paper (even if it's a bit hard to get to), but is it really good? What about other Trashing decks? can it beat those?

You have to realize that faster decks will get Greened quicker, and will slow while the slow deck will not get Greened as fast. You simply develop longer, then play a game of catch-up with the guy who bought a Province first. It depends on the board. There are some games where you want to get an early lead but still want to develop, then there are games with Counterfeit and Venture where you want to be the first to buy to keep up the pressure. In the end, it really depends on the board, but generally you want to develop while not falling more than 1 Province behind if you can help it.

Diadem

Hand: Squire, Watch Tower, Diadem, Platinum, Platinum

Play Squire as +2 Buys. Play Diadem and Platinums for $13. (Not +1$ for Watchtower, since Diadem works with Actions, not Action Cards). Buy two HG and trash for 6 Estates.

Spoils

Hand: Squire, Watch Tower, Spoils, Platinum, Platinum

Play Squire as +2 Buys. Play Spoils and Platinums for $14. Buy and trash out HG for +6 Estates and +1 Estate buy. I feel like this is going to be all of them pretty much.

Fool's Gold

Hand: Squire, Watch Tower, Fool's Gold, Platinum, Platinum

Play Squire as +2 Buys. Play Fool's Gold and Platinums for $12. Buy and trash out HG for +6 Estates. Eh.

Loan

Same as Fools Gold.

Masterpiece

Same as Fool's Gold.

Philosopher's Stone

With this, you can theoretically use Squire and buy up to 3 HG to trash for +9 Estates.

Quarry

You can buy 3 HG for +9, which seems to be the limit for most of these cards.

Cache

Same as Spoils.

Contraband

Extra buy on Contraband can be used with Margrave to draw enough money to get 3 HG to trash.

Counterfeit

Squire +Buy, Counterfeit the Platinum for a +3Buy and $21. That's 3 HG and an Estate. 10 Estates.

Horn of Plenty

This could be used for an extra Estate gain, but not HG without using Margrave for the extra +Buy.

Ill-Gotten Gains

Same as Fool's Gold.

Royal Seal

Same as Diadem.

Stash

Same as Diadem.

Venture

Extra Platinum doesn't matter, same as Fool's Gold.

Hoard

Same as Diadem.

Bank

Extra money doesn't matter all that much, still only a +HG gain.

Or you could just overpay Doctor by +20 with the hand of x4 Platinum and Special Treasure with almost every single card to trash every single HG and Catacombs for a total of 40 Estates plus or minus a few Estates, depending on your Special Treasure's cost and
buy count.

While showcasing Counterfeit's power, overall, this absolutely sucks. No real fun. There has to be a way to just have a different strategy with every single Treasure Card without having more or less the same strategy with every card.

Hrm.. Silver Gain would be better to try out, but it would be the same thing with every Treasure. This is quite the dilemma. Ugh.
