On turn 1, I buy a Silver. My opponent buys a Noble Brigand, and hits my Silver.

I didn't see him replying as I was playing at first, but then I noticed he started freaking out, so I replied:

Seprix: You hit my Silver on T1
Opponent: wow

He quit. I was ahead by 2 Provinces. A bit weird.

Today/yesterday there's some bot action going on, spamming threads, maybe that's why.

That's probably it.

Usually, when I skip Pool, I regret it, but this time, I believe there is something faster.

On the one hand, "first go for pools, then get thin ASAP" takes an eternity. Pools will take a very, very long time to become better than apprentice-fortress. And here is how I would like to set up the latter:

- open Ironworks/Storeroom
- get Fortresses on 4/with IW, a second Storeroom on 3, grab Poor House alongside
- with 5 (which is achievable via Fortress-Storeroom-Poor House), get Apprentices

With massive draw power, discard for coins with Storeroom+3PoorHouses get me quickly to 21, which is double prov plus apprentice to keep the engine alive.

I'd like to see this versus Pool strategy, because that also sounds very good.

Huh.  Apparently an administrator has disabled my account on their forum.

I can't even log in that forum. Insane.

It freezes every time I try to join a game. It's stuck on the loading screen. I have a good internet connection and it's worked for me before...

Why does anyone care? It's a crappy continuation of a mediocre series, it's not like you're actually going to see the play or anything.

Oh, Awaclus. :)

Oh, wow. There's not even a book. It's literally JUST A PLAY. Count me out, I'll just read the plot on Wikipedia or something. And it's two parts, which means double the ticket sales. Not impressive.

They are not; maybe you just haven't seen any good ones.

I haven't seen any. I didn't mean all plays were garbage, I just mean the obvious bad plays are garbage. Like, the Spiderman play. And the Harry Potter play.

I don't know about Spider-Man play; maybe you mean the musical?  I might agree; I think musicals are a bit cheap in general, and that Spider-Man one seemed overly unnecessary.  This one may be, too.  (That being said, I'm a huge fan of some.)

But you really can't make any criticism if you've never been to the theater.

Edit: Though this HP thing is apparently not a musical.

I like Shakespeare, actually.

And she has actually written other stuff after HP -- I've not read it, though. I've heard that it's boring, but just from one source.

Plays are s***. I don't care about a play. I want to read the actual book when it comes out.

Gaining port with workshop is exactly the same as gaining village with workshop.

Not if your opponent really wants those last two Ports and you only have $3 to spend to block him with.

« on: March 10, 2016, 10:09:29 pm »
One of the best $4 Villages in the game, not for being great, but for being efficient. Basically, it's worth $3, but then two are gained every time it is bought. It's not going to beat Fishing Village, but pound for pound one of the best value purchases someone could make early game. It also piles faster than other cards (as long as you buy them) at an astonishing 6 gains, in comparison to 10 gains. In a game where Ports are the only villages, and Goons/Wharf is on the board, I'm going to seriously consider opening Port/Silver, just to get that leg up. Other than that, Port is not something to open with. As for contesting Port, it may/may not be worth it, depending on the kingdom. If I need more villages, I only have to make half the purchases to get my Village fix, and overbuying Villages is still a mistake, even when you get double the amount. Something to consider.

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: New idea: Secondary deck
« on: March 10, 2016, 05:31:50 pm »
Having some 'world deck' every round of turns would be cool, based on this idea, where every time everyone has their turn, a different card is drawn with a special effect for everybody. Everyone can discard 2 cards for +$1 or something, for example. Maybe there is even an attack card that block the effect of the 'world deck' for one round for everyone else. After all the cards have gone through, obviously you'd reshuffle. Having it set up this way also gets rid of the luck factor for individual players, because everybody gets the effect instead.

I very rarely get Ambassador in Shelters games. Sure you can still send over 7/10 of your starting cards, but those other 3 are the ones you most want to be rid of.

Ambassador is less of an automatic card in shelters games.

There is like an orgy of stuff to do on this board, and I feel like you could play it many different times and have each game go differently.

I don't see that. Scrying Pool is obvious, and then from there you want to get thin ASAP. From there, it's a race to a 3-pile.

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Adventures Events: Plan
« on: March 10, 2016, 12:52:09 pm »
Had anyone ever bought Plan more than once in a turn?

Why would anybody do that?

You have four buys, 18 coins, two useless Estates in hand and a strong desire to buy exactly one King's Court and one Wharf.

I'd buy two Wharves/KC over Plan twice, easily.
