Thanks for the recap. I need to add this to my shelf. What are your thoughts on the learning curve for newbies. I find co-op games to be easier to teach and pull in new gamers. Pandemic is relatively easy to teach and contains a lot of basic mechanics the players can build on. Would DOW be another good entry level game night selection?

I think Splendor rewards balance and awareness more than anything else. If you go into it with a set strategy, you may find yourself burned by the other players. You need to be ready to adjust and block via reservations or be more aggressive depending on the other's playstyle.

This made my day. I hadn't heard of this game before and now its top on my wishlist. I'm a sucker for time travel ANYTHING. Just finished reading All You Need Is Kill. Simple, but fun.

There is no debate that the artwork is amazing. I also like how there are five different colored boxes for it. The gameplay has been critiqued as not living up to the artwork, but it is definitely a solid game.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I also think they are planning to make some not so insignificant changes to gameplay, too.

I couldn't tell from the website : http://store.steampowered.com/app/264690/ whether it was single player or not? I assume it is. I wonder if "deckbuilding" was just used a selling buzzword?

May need to give it a try if it's on a steam sale some time.

LCG General Discussion / AGOT: 2nd edition backwards compatibility
« on: November 15, 2014, 05:14:06 pm »
Does anyone have any idea if FFG plans to have any semblance of backwards compatibility between the 1st edition and recently announced 2nd edition. I tweeted at them but haven't heard a response and can't find any specific info anywhere.

For obvious reasons, I *assume* it won't be.

How do you think the game would play with only two players? I assume its not possible to win solely on your personal objective, that the group objective still needs to be completed?

The Walking Dead: Best Defense has a mechanic called "ulterior motive" which allows for victory even if the group fails. Needless to say, it is kind of unplayable for two player only games.
