Dominion General Discussion / Hovel

I may be wrong in my intuition here, but after a couple times of trashing my Hovel by buying an Estate with a 5/2 split (instead of buying nothing), I realized that I'm pretty sure it hurts more than helps and I don't do it anymore. But all the time I see people essentially trading their more-trashable Hovel for an Estate.

Not really a big deal in terms of deciding a game, but for some reason I see a lot of people doing this. And mind you, it's not a TfB thing. Am I right here?

There's a lot of cards in Dominion that I seriously underestimated as a beginner being exposed to newer cards through online play.

Here's a few of my "Wow that looked weak" cards:

Ambassador
Chapel
Rebuild

Anyone else have a card they thought was weak when they first saw it?

...Or alternatively, a card that you overestimated. For me, that was Bureaucrat. I used to self-veto it when picking cards for games IRL.

Puzzles and Challenges / Strictly better than....

Okay guys, the challenge is simple: name a pair of kingdom cards of which, all edge cases considered, one is always preferable to have in hand. Prices and Possession are ignored.

Example:

Warehouse>Cellar
Noble Brigand>Thief
