OK, let's put an end to the second round. The totals are:

1. Goons 15
3. Bishop 10

5. Duke 16
10. Silk Road 9

8. Fairgrounds 14
6. Distant Lands 11

4. Vineyard 20
2. Monument 5

So two upsets this time, Fairgrounds over Distant Lands and Vineyard over Monument. Though, it may easily be that the seeding was off with these, so they're not shocking upsets, I guess?

Now it gets really interesting...

1. Goons
5. Duke

8. Fairgrounds
4. Vineyard

All right, I think I'll wrap this round up! I'm starting the count at 9:30, a specific time to avoid favoritism.

There were no ties this time, though there were some really tough battles. I didn't vote (my vote would have actually created a tie). Let's see what we have here:

1. Goons - 21
16. Great Hall - 8

3. Bishop - 26
14. Harem - 3
This was the biggest crushing out of all of them.

5. Duke - 15
12. Tunnel - 14

7. Nobles - 14
10. Silk Road - 15

8. Fairgrounds - 19
9. Gardens - 10

6. Distant Lands - 15
11. Island - 14

4. Vineyard - 20
13. Feodum - 9

2. Monument - 19
15. Farmland - 10

So despite some close ones, we have only one upset: Silk Road over Nobles.

Next post will be round two.

16, 3, 5, 10, 11, 6, 4, 2

Not much of a fan of many of these really. I like fairgrounds, great hall, vineyard, and monument a fair bit, but meh on the rest.

Fair enough. But looks like you have Distant Lands and Island voted, but neither Fairgrounds nor Gardens. I assume you choose Fairgrounds, but what about between the other two?

The seeding was a damn crime. Fairgrounds/Gardens r1? Monument as a 2?

I used Qvist's rankings as a starting point. Might be I could have messed with it a little more than I did.

Following liopoil's example, I've created a bracket for alt-VP cards! This includes all types of alternative strategies to Province/Colony. Scaling cards, fixed cards, and VP chip cards are all present here. An argument can be made that these types of cards shouldn't be compared to one another, but this was the way to make it 8, 16 or even 12 without making arbitrary decisions, like including Nobles and not Harem.

1. Goons
16. Great Hall

3. Bishop
14. Harem

5. Duke
12. Tunnel

7. Nobles
10. Silk Road

8. Fairgrounds
9. Gardens

6. Distant Lands
11. Island

4. Vineyard
13. Feodum

2. Monument
15. Farmland

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Base Set Cards: Gardens
« on: April 07, 2016, 01:39:18 pm »
I think Vineyards is the most power Alt VP in the game.

Clearly we need an Alt-VP bracket to discuss these and break them down.

Not kidding.

I wonder what that would look like. Should it include VP chip cards? Should it be reduced to "cards that let you ignore Provinces"?

Got off work, I'll be there again.

http://dominion.diehrstraits.com/ has all the card images in one place, but I don't think they are PDF's. I don't know what they are, but I'm sure it's a start.

I think this'll work. Thanks for the tip!

Dominion General Discussion / Card PDFs

Hey guys. I'm doing a project for school where I actually create a digital library, and I've chosen to do it about Dominion cards. Is there a place where I can easily and quickly download PDF files of all the cards, like in a zipped folder? I could go to each page of the wiki, but that'd take a while.

This might be trivial to say, but I imagine gaining the card makes it better because you want to play it anyway. On the other hand, the cost of the card is restricted to 4, so it balances out. Playtesters, with this one, did you just want to shake things up with the vanilla token events? Or was there a practical reason it couldn't be a direct companion to Pathfinding/Lost Arts/Training?

I've always wondered if there could be a way to make this work with Minion. It'd be hard to set up, but the attack (a random 3 cards) could be very mean.

It's like if they played Outpost.

After playing a few fun Adventures (and one Masqerade-BM :-\) over Skype the last few days, it felt like a good idea to necro this thread.

So, is anyone interested? I could play today after 21.00UTC and probably Friday afternoon aswell.

I'd be free for a couple games on Friday.

Achievement unlocked?

This board also had Murchinary. When it first came up in random, I had three shuffles without Urchins colliding despite me getting three of them (possibly four), so after ragequitting resigning, I decided to explore the kingdom against a bot, and this happened.

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Adventures Cards: Hireling
« on: February 26, 2016, 02:08:53 pm »
Does Prince keep playing the "This stays in play" durations?  Because technically they're never leaving play, and hence they can be set aside every turn you play it.  Or no?  I hope this is not the case, as playing a Hireling every turn (after Princed) would get super wonky.

No.  Hireling does not leave play at the end of your turn, and is not set aside.

Right, it's because Durations stay in play (and aren't discarded) that they're a nombo with Prince. Hireling and Champion just happen to do it every "play" instead of every other "play".

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Wiki things: How "main" are Events?
« on: February 25, 2016, 02:18:02 pm »
I'm considering moving Event from "special type" to "main type" in the "Card types" navbox, alongside Action, Treasure, Victory and Curse.

Events...are not required to be included in every game.
actions aren't either. did someone say that yet

Has anyone here ever played a game with no Action cards in the Supply? Seems achievement-worthy.

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's Discuss Adventures Cards: Guide
« on: February 24, 2016, 02:59:19 pm »
My last game with Guide had an interesting interaction with Relic... we were getting Relic'd almost every turn, so Guide meant discarding 5 cards and drawing 4. It made the decision tougher.

Whoa, it's like an optimal Minion you do to yourself.

I've mentioned this before, but there's Magpie and Stash. When Magpie causes a shuffle, guarantee that the reveal will hit a Treasure.

Catacombs is really funny with the -1 card token. Because of the wording of the card, if you choose the first three cards, you get them all. If you choose the next three cards, you only get two of them.

I'd say that magpie being a powerful engine enabler probably decreases the odds that you are looking at a kingdom where you actually want a stash.

Maybe? Magpie kinda presents itself as one of those half-engine cards. Like Stables. Well, okay maybe the combo should be Stables and Stash. If you're greening or have bought too many Stables, guarantee that a hand's not a dud. Of course, if Stables is that important, you'll only want to go for Stash after you've won the split.

See, here's the thing about Prosperity and Lay's Baked chips. Prosperity has VP chips. Every time you get a chip, you eat a chip. That way, you eat your chips in more moderation than you would if you were buying Provinces. Unless you're playing a Goons engine; in that case, that's where the 80% less fat comes in. It's not as bad to eat a lot at once because they're not as bad for you.

TABLE 1: I started buying Peddlers here way too late. I went for Apothecary starting on T3/T4, but didn't end up needing it. Opened Ironworks/CM, used Ironworks to get Highways and Duplicates. I managed to get two Highways in play and call two Duplicates on a Province buy just as piles were emptying, taking the win.

Did not play tables 2-4

TABLE 5: Here, I used Hamlet and Watchtower to build an engine that turned its wheels and didn't do much else, so I took last place. No one saw Hamlet/Seaway/Madman/Bank. Masquerade/BM would have beaten what any of us were doing, I think.

TABLE 6: I lost because I did not open Wharf. I went for Throne Room-Giant before anyone else, trashing deathwing's Highways and cursing infinitehitbox. Then my Throne Rooms got Gianted and I stopped doing much of anything.

Did not play 7 or 8

TABLE 9: This is really my kind of engine. I built it soundly and won comfortably. Not much else to say about it.

TABLE 10 (Semi-final qualifier): I used Shanty Town/Rabble AND Warehouse/Menagerie for draw, just in case one didn't come together, and Butcher for payload, trashing and buying Gold. I pulled through here just in time for the win.

TABLE 12: Horn megaturn. Watchtower as draw was very tight, especially with little real trashing and opponents' Soothsayers drawing me cards. So I bought Pathfinding to put my card token on Fortress. When I would have dudded, I Lookout-trashed Fortress to put it in my hand on multiple occasions. I tried to improve my Lookouts in the mid-game by setting them up with Scout, but I never drew them together! Either way, I won this one.

TABLE 13: This played like a straightforward Governor game with Count support. I gained several Duchies on the last turn and ended the game in second place.

TABLE 14: I got a slow start to this game as a result of not opening Bridge Troll, but I still ended up winning. Ranger was great help with that; it gave me the draw and last buy I needed in the last turn.

In the final game, the choice was obviously between engine and Talisman/Market Square/Gardens. Grsbmd went for Gardens and Roadrunner and I went for the engine. In hindsight, I wonder if contesting Gardens would have been the right move, because it might have ended the game too fast for the engine to pile Provinces. My engine was worse than RR's because I didn't trash aggressively in the beginning, which made it more difficult to use my Market Squares for payload. If I hadn't acquiesced and greened early, I probably would have gotten third. That brought a lesson full circle from my first game in the tournament: no matter how many players there are, when an engine is the best strat on the board, the player who executes it well comes in first, and the player who executes it poorly comes in last.
