Yesterday, I played Hamlet, discarded for an Action, then tried to play Followers....and discarded it for a Buy.

It's ironic that both of you mentioned Black Market, considering that it's a card touted as very powerful and high-skill (in addition to high-luck) by a number of the top players (see, e.g. here: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=11768.msg418654#msg418654)

I understand where you're coming from Tombolo. When playing time-killing games on Androminion, I frequently find myself overbuilding like crazy.

It's not so much that Black Market can't utilize skill; it just makes crazy, unfocused, impulsive buys more attractive than any other card does.

I'm in the same boat about who I play with; interacting online while gaming has never appealed much to me. What really drew me into Dominion was how the cool cards interact. I have a new taste for the strategy of the game since watching pro videos, but I still fall victim to preferring the random and unpredictable (especially Black Market). I guess it depends on what you want to get out of the game. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I've suspected 6 and above hasn't been released yet to allow more time for playing with Prince.

I find it interesting that you think Candlestick Maker is the worst, but you have yet to place Masterpiece.

I mean, the art style doesn't work for people, but that doesn't mean it can't work for "still life," as it were.

Huh, you may be right.  To me, it just looked like trees.

I can see that. The spear-shape to her left kinda decided it for me. Also, what is up with that sky?

I love the idea of this list!

I agree that Molly is a bit too inactive in the picture, but I believe those black silhouettes in the background are an army she's leading.

Pauper: 5$

You may set this aside. If you do, set aside a Feast from your hand. At the start of your next turn, play that Feast.

When Pauper is in the Supply, the only card you may gain with Feast is Pauper.

I used the blank cards with some friends just yesterday. The power of iiiiiimagiiiiinaaaaaatiiiooooonn is a wonderful thing. It's like when I'm next to broke and just imagine a steak at dinnertime.

Chapel, Village, Masquerade, Bridge, Remake, Saboteur, Goons, Possession, King's Court, Prince

I originally posted this in the "Fun Kingdom's" thread facetiously, fully expecting that it would be the least fun game of Dominion of all time. But looking at it now, I'm interested in it, since the pin can be blocked. There's also stuff with KC KC B B B, but KC saboteur and goons action could stop that. And then there's possession.
Thoughts?

Prince of Villages is a serious power on this board

Y'know, the Prince and the Peddler is very close to the Prince and the Pauper.

We could always use spoiler tags.

I.e., The Governor/Fortress/Border Village combo in Schneau's is pretty cute.

Good to see people come around on Dames Natalie and Anna. I still would rather have Dame Josephine over Sir Martin, but maybe that's psychological.

I think Crossroads/Harem looks pretty strong with Wharf on the board. Open Silver/Silver, get Wharves, use their +Buys to get Crossroads, and then get Harems after 4 or 5 Wharves. Village, and later Shanty Town after Harems build up, will be useful for support. You largely won't need Golds, aside a couple to give your economy an early start, since once you load up on Crossroads you'll be happier to see Harems in your hand. Maybe you could throw Monument in there, but more than one would likely cost Actions and time.

Can you tell me a few details about how exactly you go about getting your ideas on cards? I only picked up on that recently. I've made a few cards with these templates, but their size is 326*500, which isn't identical to the size of physical cards, and resizing means a loss in quality.

I've created a template in original size (200*307) and did two versions of the same card as an experiment, one by using the 200*307 template, and the other one with the original template and a resize afterwards

they aren't quite identical, I've worded the one a little bit differently, but my point is mostly the font. it's different, but I'm not even sure I like the first one more. It seems closer to actual cards though, and I imagine it'll be easier to read if you have to use even smaller font for more complex cards.

So my question is: what is the best way to do this? None of the images in your OP are in original size. Do you just resize them before printing, or do you have the original versions in phsyical size and just use larger versions for the thread because it looks better? Also, which templates do you use?

And, how do you do the card values on the bottom left corner? I've been using the suggested font from the tutoral, but it doesn't look right.

It also doesn't seem like an elegant way to even use image editing software. everything except the textbox should be doable with a simple program.

Now I'm really curious what Prayer cards do.

117
Monument. It's just two vanilla effects, but the VP chips weren't something we could expect only knowing the previous expansions, and the points can seriously amass in an engine

(Kind of cheating, but I also want to say Butcher, but in a totally different way. It takes the remodel concept and the coin tokens concept to create a really unique strategy with a lot of different options)

All I ask is that Goko makes this purchasable. I already have the 5 promos, so it is impossible for me to get otherwise unless I can outright buy it. Oh mighty Donald X. can you please tell MakingFun to do this? I mean what would they rather have, money or frustrated customers?

Right, is it really that important that we play the adventures? I'd pay actual money for Governor/Envoy/WV.

"So you can see, I've played the Chapel deck optimally, I've trashed all of my non-Chapel cards."

But that was exactly his mistake. He shouldn't have trashed the second Chapel.

I do love me a successful Hermit/MS combo.

I also don't have a log and am not going to get it, but I played a really interesting game with Hamlet, Armory, Herald, Treasure Map, and Baker. I saw the Hamlet-Armory-TM combo immediately, since I'd done it before, so I opened double Armory as opposed to double TM. It wasn't until I was actually performing the combo and getting 12$ with no extra buys that I saw the synergy with Herald. I could essentially set up the next two turns with the amount of money I had, doing the exact same thing again. 1 Hamlet and 2 Armories for first turn, then 1 Hamlet and 1 Armory (to top-deck a Hamlet) for the TM turn, and random Coppers and Estates to account for the five-card hands. Result: drawing Hamlet with my four Golds, guaranteeing me an extra buy.

I didn't win the game, since Baker ironically enabled some fast Provinces for my opponent, but I still thought it was cool.

The Baker was killed in the Library with the Masterpiece.

Dominion is now Clue.

Masterpiece has a candlestick on it.

Hmm, I wonder who could have committed such a heinous crime. Certainly not anyone commonly associated with the Baker...or who has anything to do with candlesticks.

122
Mrr, didn't get any of the places right, go figure. I got the HP-Witch-Cultist sequence, but one place too low...darn Wharf, stayin' so strong and bein' in 3rd place.

I think Butcher will rise in the coming lists, as will Merchant Guild.

123
From my experience, Soothsayer excels in games with no trashing or weak to no engine potential. Player playing BM or slog really only needs to buy 1-2 Soothsayers and VP cards, maybe with occasional Silver. His main economy - Golds, will come from playing SSers, so he doesn't even need to waste a turn for buying them. Of course, they become terrible in the endgame, where neither your Gold nor opponents' Curse will see the reshuffle and opponent's extra card may make the difference between $7 and $8; but by that time, your deck is already filled with Golds anyway.

I'd be very curios to see simulators' opinion about Witch+BM vs Soothsayer+BM to see if the latter wins.

I soloed it once. Witch won the Curse split, but Soothsayer won the province split. Basically what seemed to happen was that the Witch player, while more likely to collide, was also more likely to have Witch in hand because of Soothsayer's penalty...but those Golds, man, later in the game they really added up.

124
Whoa! Didn't expect to see Soothsayer so early. Is this the lowest ranked Curser we've had so far?

Though I definitely see the reasoning. In the short term (this turn and next) and, as Qvist said, in engine games, it's strictly worse than Sea Hag and costs 1$ more.

Since there's only 11 more, I think I'll put my vote in, more based on how the community sounds right now than on an actual strength ranking, which I've already submitted.

11 - Minion
10 - Torturer
9 - IGG
8 - Governor
7 - Junk Dealer
6 - Wharf
5 - Hunting Party
4 - Witch
3 - Cultist
2 - Mountebank
1 - Rebuild

Dominion General Discussion / Re: What is the worst card in Dominion?
« on: April 18, 2014, 04:49:19 pm »
Had to go with Contraband. $3 with a Buy is pretty good, but goddamn does the contraband itself hurt. Thief, Transmute, and Chancellor were all other contenders.

I really have a liking for Secret Chamber. I love setting up the top of my deck for Swindlers, Jesters, Knights, NB, etc. Even with Ghost Ship, it gives you a little more choice.

Moat: dat defense, though. It's great to be sitting pretty on that.

I've been in situations where I've really appreciated the cheapness of Duchess as a terminal Silver, so I have trouble calling it the worst.

Develop has that favorite thing of mine in Dominion, the potential for really creative play (why Count is one of my all-time favorite cards). It really good in engines where you're practically gaining the cards in hand.

When it comes to top-deck play, sure there's Apothecary, Cartographer, and Wandering Minstrel, which are all better, but you know...sometimes I REALLY want to know what's on top of my deck. If there's a combo potential with Mystic or Wishing Well, I'll probably throw Scout into the mix.

Counting House can be the center of a full-game strategy. Even though it needs support, it's hard to call it the worst for that reason.

Explorer: yeah, I wouldn't really consider this one. I like Silver. I like it in my hand best. Nuff said.

Finally, especially with some good trashing like Loan, you could definitely do worse than Adventurer when it comes to Big Money.
