It has as many zones and player cards as the main set - the decks will double in size. And there are extra components to handle extra things.

I could conceivably do a single preview showing a bunch of cards. Or do a combination preview / secret history.

Very cool thanks for the info!

I think a combination preview/history could be cool (I mean, if I get a vote). I like the idea of learning more about the reasoning behind the new mechanics and cards as much as just seeing a bunch of different cards.

I guess I wouldn't expect this. I mean Kingdom Builder is Donald's second most famous game, and he doesn't do previews for its expansions. It's pretty much just a Dominion thing.

True good point. I don't have a ton of experience with Kingdom Builder; it seemed like with Temporum's zone and player cards were pretty analogous to Dominion cards and would be perfect for previews, whereas Kingdom Builder seemed to be more about adding mechanics and new tiles.

I'm concerned that if someone didn't really like Temporum, they aren't going to bother playing again with the expansion. Also, the majority of the time that I've introduced people to Temporum, it has been with the expansion. Or at least, with the player cards from the expansion, not with the new zones usually. And even then, it's been very hit or miss.

I think I've said this before, but the biggest complaint I get is that it feels like there aren't meaningful choices. And the reason it feels like this is that the best choices are only slightly better than the worst ones. People are used to games where a good/experienced player will absolutely crush a bad/new player, not one where he will only just barely win.
Well, you could try using the new zones too! Some of the new zones push planning ahead in particular. And some of the new things have very visible payoffs.

I do not think that an expansion sucks in people who did not like the original. It has a chance to reach more people due to new people seeing the game when someone pulls it out to try the expansion. And it has a better chance of impressing those new people if the expansion makes it a better game for them. But if they already tried it and didn't like it, sure why would they try it again.

When I was playtesting the game, people liked that it was close. I don't have any market research to really know what the world thinks. Obv. it would be trivial to double all bonuses and widen that gap.

As I've probably said in this thread even, I think the big mistake I made in the original is the choose-one zones. Some players park there and then think there was nothing to do, since they didn't do anything. And they didn't change history so they think changing history doesn't matter either. No-one thinks these things when playing with me, because they expect to lose and then lose; clearly there was something about what I was doing that was better. But the box never includes an experienced player.

Man, I already know the answer to this but: can you give us any teasers about the expansion? Even anything like, number of new zones and/or player cards? Existence of new components? Anything?

I'm sure that you will do the previews a few weeks before the confirmed release date, but I am just starving for info. Really looking forward to it!

If there are more expansions, will Events be something that are possibly added regularly, or do you feel you did most of the "classic" ideas?

Also, would there possibly more "player interaction" Events, or is there a reason there was only the one in Adventures?

Alayna has started working on the art. I don't know how long it will take her. And then I don't know when Jay will put it out although it probably won't be delayed for anything special. So, probably next year, not before the spring.

Awesome, thanks! I am looking forward to it.

Apologies if this isn't the place for it, but it has been discussed in this thread before: is there any more news on an expansion for Temporum? Is it probable/likely/unlikely? If it's moving forward, do you have a rough timeframe for release?

The teasers suggested to me at least that the only large kingdom piles are the 12 card piles. So most likely the remaining 26 cards are the events. 25 is a nice round number, so lets say 25 events and a blank or randomizer.

The official description on Rio Grande's site says 20 events, the last 6 are probably blanks to round up to 400 for printing reasons.

Even ignoring the differences with numbers, breaking up the draw into 2 separate segments would be inelegant and take more time. If you draw first you now have a different hand configuration to consider when using Storyteller's effect.

With the way the card works now, everything is streamlined to a single draw and you don't automatically have a 2 step process to decide what to use with the effect (this can be introduced if you have another action card with + actions and card drawing but it is not built into the card by default).

Why does she look away from the audience?

If she is in like a village market/town square type place putting on this puppet show there are likely people all around her. You are looking at her from the POV of the other half of the audience.

- a card that draws you 5 cards when Throned

Hrmmm

1. +2 cards, +1 per other [this card] in play?
2. If you have less than 5 cards, +5 cards? (nothing happens the second time)
3. Draw a card for this and every other card in play? (first one only draws for itself and the throne, not the phantom card)
4. Discard your hand and draw 5 cards? (you decide to keep the first redrawn hand)
5. The obvious one: +2.5 cards

So ummm is the expansion official?

I would have gone with Trade Route, since it doesn't degrade like Moneylender and can get rid of Curses and Estates. Moneylender is always a decent opener since it can launch you to $5 pretty quickly so it wasn't a terrible choice if you wanted to get a Witch as early as possible. But eventually it becomes useless since you might draw it without coppers, especially when someone is throwing more junk into your deck, and then it might as well be another Curse for the good it does you.

So yeah I wouldn't say it was especially strong on that board with Trade Route and Witch in the mix (that is, relative to other boards, where it might be stronger).

To the degree that "duration" is a new type, sure, any new expansion could have something like that. I would also consider revisiting duration cards themselves; the people excited by a 9th Dominion expansion would probably be happy to hear it had new duration cards.

So this is in relation to your talk about the possibility of doing more duration cards (until Jay suggested something new), as well as your detailed explanation of the new VP card possibilities.

Would you ever consider doing more VP token cards as an alternative/supplement to more VP cards? They seem to fill the role of providing new paths to victory without really clashing with other stuff (for example: if Duke and Feodum were in the same set it would seem redundant, but you have 3 VP token cards in a single set without them really encroaching on each other). It seems like all of the "classic" things you can do with VP tokens were used, but especially with new mechanics like overpay and on-trash that there are some possibilities for new things.

It does have the duration problem of "isn't a new thing better", but it seems to provide new routes for "how do we create different victory paths since all the classic VP cards are in sets".

I chose Feodum, even though it is the worst on the list.

I don't know how powerful Feodum is relative to the other cards, but I also voted it since I find it the most fun. I love that there are so many ways to build it up, and the fact that it has a built in way to explode your Silver count makes it hilarious fun. The best is of course blowing it up with Trader to get 7 Silvers and then buying another Silver or Feodum (or a Masterpiece worth another 2 or 3 Silvers), but there is also a bunch of other fun things you can do.

No Great Hall?

More to the point, no island or tunnel? they're both stronger than great hall, tunnel is awesome!

I would even include the VP-token cards, or at least Goons and Bishop. They provide alternate paths to victory, which is the entire point of alt-VP cards. Colony is a little more straightforward since it is still just Province+, but even that mixes up how you play the game.

When are you going to post Dudes of Stuff and Things so that we can all play it (you did say it was the best game ever)?

Alternately, can you give a summary of what it was?

But the little kid being the Urchin makes so much more sense.

Yeah, if you guys notice the bald man in the image is wearing some kind of apron, he is a butcher or store clerk or something, not a thief himself. The Urchin stole food from him, and he cornered the kid in an alley way, maybe giving him the cut on his eye (shown in Mercenary) to teach him a lesson. The fact that Mercenary has the same knife means he maybe went back and got revenge? In either case the cornered boy in Urchin grows up to become the Mercenary.
