Why would anyone buy provinces in a 3+ player game with this on the board?  5-cost 12 VP. that's kinda insane. And it takes six province buys to get this to be worth less than a province.
It doesn't matter how much it's worth during the game, it only matters how much it's worth after the game has ended. If the game ends on Provinces, it's worth nothing. The game has to end on piles for it to be worth anything, and although that is more common in 3+ player games, it's not because there are more Provinces but because there are more players emptying the 10-card piles.
Exactly. That's why no one would bother buying provinces in a 3+ player game with this card out -because a 3-pile ending is more likely anyway with 3+ players and even moreso if anyone is going for prefectures (because they'll be trying to empty piles also). It's like you're agreeing with me while making it sound like you're disagreeing...

Maybe try this?:
Quote
Prefecture
Types: Victory
Cost: $5
Worth 1VP plus 1 per 2 Provinces in the Supply (rounded down).
It's still worth 7VP when no provinces are bought in 3+player, but that's a lot closer to reasonable. Also, this way, it's not completely dead when the game ends by the provinces going empty.
I might say "Worth 1VP plus 1 per 2 Provinces in the Supply (round up only in 2-player games, otherwise round down)" but that would be unorthodox. Personally, I'm okay with unorthodox, but it seems not many people around here are like me that way...

PS: Yay, I'm a golem now! That's so much cooler than being a moneylender...

I think something like "Prince's Quarters" sounds better than "Prince's Room" :)

Prince's Quarters
$5 - Action
+1 Action, +1 Card
If this is the fourth Prince's Quarters you've played this turn, trash the four Prince's Quarters and gain a Prince.

my 2c: Every expansion has a few off-theme cards, and that's fine. nothing wrong with that. I think Dignitary especially is great as is.

OT PS: I've also made a little kingdom chooser program which includes Enterprise (along with my other favorite fan made cards -several from the fan card contests, my expansion of course, a couple from NoMoreFun's expansion, a few from Silverspawn's expansion, and I'll be adding a few from Co0kieL0rd's expansion too).

Goko Dominion Online / Tutor list
« on: October 11, 2014, 01:48:49 am »
I think it might be useful to noobies to have an available list of players who would be happy to give help and advice to their opponent during games on Goko. It would make it easier for people to ask for advice if they know their opponent is someone who's willing to give it. It's also a more fun way to learn & get better than reporting your game in the "help" subforum here.

I'll be on the list as someone who's happy to give advice during a game, but I'm not a particularly good player myself.

Variants and Fan Cards / Terrace (LFE) / Torturer game

Kingdom: Courtyard, Pawn, Iron Furnace*, Wishing Well, Scout, Ironmonger, Terrace*, Merchant Ship, Torturer, Nobles
Fan Cards:
Quote
Terrace (LastFootnote's Enterprise)
Cost 4 - Action
+1 Card
+2 Actions
You may pay a trade token to discard your hand and draw 5 cards.
-
When you gain this, gain a trade token.

Quote
Iron Furnace (Library Adventurer's Resurgence)
Cost 2  - Action
Reveal a card from your hand. If it's an action, play it. If it's a ruins, play it again. If it's a treasure, +$2. If it's a victory card, +2 cards. In any case, trash the revealed card.

I went for the obvious Ironmonger/Torturer/Nobles engine. My opponent went for Ironmonger and Nobles, but only got one torturer. We also each got an Iron Furnace, a Terrace, and a Pawn or two.
One turn when I played all three of my torturers, he discarded down to one card (yeah, he could've gained a curse first and discarded down to two, but he didn't think of that.) The one card was his terrace, so he used the trade token ability to draw back to a full hand. He ended up buying a province that turn, and won a couple turns later.
That trade token ability on Terrace seems like a small thing, but occationally it can made a big difference.

That was the 2nd game. We played that kingdom twice in a row. I won the first, and in each game the player who won was the one who trashed at least two of their starting estates first.

FYI for LastFootnote: I've also played games with Mill Town and Refurbish recently and liked them. The game with Refurbish also had Feodum, and my opponent beat me mainly by having more silvers at the end.

PS: Seems like a fan card game reports subforum would be cool, but I don't know if it'd get many posts.

I'm a pretty sure a Library Adventurer should be The Librarian.

So was that movie any good?

Ooh ooh I have one too, and I'm not the one who made it:

You should also add a following card:

Library adventurer
Cost 5  - Action
Draw until you have 7 cards in hand. You may set aside any
treasure cards drawn this way aside as you draw them;
discard the set aside cards as you finish drawing.

Maybe the early Feodum was a bad idea? I wanted to trash it was Salvager for the silvers, thinking that would make it easier to get grand markets.  My opponent got those torturers and fortresses lined up too fast.

In other news, I thought of a different Trade token-getting mechanic last night. "When you buy this, take a Trade token per Silver you have in play." At first I was thinking of trying it on Cathedral, but I know from past experience that unless a token trasher provides a way to get more tokens later, players will just buy them out for the trashing alone. But it could work perfectly on Barter. Barter's token gaining is already on-buy, and it's a card that you'd sometimes be willing to buy without Trade tokens, but you'd also like to have several (I guess that last part goes for all Trade token cards). To top it off, Silvers make really excellent Barter targets, gaining you $5 cards into your hand. So…

Quote
Barter
Types: Action
Cost: $5
+1 Action. Trash a card from your hand. Gain a card costing up to $2 more than it. You may pay a Trade token to put the gained card into your hand.

When you buy this, take a Trade token per Silver you have in play.

Getting pretty wordy (one more line of text), but probably still manageable. What do you guys think?
I like it. I thought the card seemed kinda uninteresting before, but this makes it interesting. It could get pretty powerful combined with a silver-gainer (like refurbish) though.

Quote
Foundation
Cost 3  - Action - Reaction
+1 Action. +$1. Look at your top deck card. Discard it or put it back.
-
*This card costs $4 when it is not in the supply. When this card is discarded besides during a clean-up phase, +1 card. When this card is trashed, gain a silver.

Oof, this card is too busy. The under-line text requires three different types of timing, so there really should be 3 dividing lines, which would be awful. How does the discard reaction work with Militia? The player discards Foundation, then draws a card so he no longer has 3 cards in hand, so he probably has to discard again. It's confusing. Anyway, I can't really identify a single compelling concept for the card. It just looks like Ironmonger, Peddler, Tunnel, and Feodum cobbled together. Is there something I'm missing?
The old version was this:
Quote
Foundation
Cost 3  - Action - Reaction
+1 card, +1 action.
-
This may take the place of any card costing up to $4 any time you trash or discard a card. When this card is discarded from your hand besides during a clean-up phase, +1 card. When this card is trashed, gain a silver.
The concept was a card that could be anything for the purposes of trashing & discarding to other cards. It can be remodelled as if it cost $4 (gaining a silver on the side). It can be discarded without losing a card. (In case of Militia, discard this card and one other, then draw one for this card's reaction. That seems like common sense to me.) The original version could be discarded by a baron for $4 because an estate costs less than $4. That was too confusing. I thought the new version was much simpler.
I added the 'Look at your top deck card. Discard it or put it back,' so that it wouldn't be just a copper on boards with no trashing or sifting. I think it's cool that the new version acts like a peddler if you play it with another foundation on top of your deck.

OP Updated with one new card and a new version of Foundation.

1714
I just tested this card (with improved wording, but the effect is almost the same), and it seemed to work well. Of course I've only played two games with it so far, but so far I like it.

The new wording for the attack part is "Each other player must either discard a treasure or gain a ruins."

I'd be glad to play unrated with you with (almost) all cards (there's a few I ban and I don't have any promos), but it'll be later. Right now I only have internet access for a few hours per week, but I should be back to consistent internet in a week or so.

PS/FYI: the gif in your sig is annoying.

Don't care about the rankings, but I've enjoyed reading these descriptions.  I laughed hard at Embassy and Margrave.

I couldn't tell what was in the picture on the Oracle card until looking closely just now. I tended to see it as a golden jackal with the woman's arms being the jackal's ears. I still can't tell what that thing in front of her is.

Wording suggestion on Iron Furnace:

Cost 2  - Action

Trash a card from your hand.

If it was an...
Action card, play it
Ruins, play it again
Treasure card, +$2
Victory card, +2 Cards
But then you can play an action card after trashing it. That would be bad.

@Market Squire, after looking at the thread you linked, I think I should cost Royal Heirloom at $5 instead of $6. Anyway, it'll need testing.

1718
I updated the original post in this thread with one new card and improved versions of several of the existing cards.

PS: Anyone know why my spoiler tags in the updated OP aren't working?

Oh. I didn't realize the search engine defaults to find only pro games. oops. I was thinking it would default to 'any', but for some reason I didn't bother actually looking at the setting...
I almost never play pro games now that I've bought the cards.

EDIT: It only does this when I clear the date range. Even when it works, it isn't finding anything newer than 7/14

So, for Barrister…

I like the $5 Barrister better, but I don't like it costing $5. But if you make the nessesary change to make it cost $4, it's too similar to noble brigand. Hmm...

What if, instead of giving +coin, you have it gain the stolen treasure to hand? That might make it worth having a thief variant that costs $5 (especially if it also has +buy).

I any case, I don't like a version where the only attack function of the card is to steal Domains. Because it only targets a single card in each other player's deck and doesn't do anything significant if it doesn't happen to hit that card, and it never does anything to them if they no longer have a domain.

1722
True, neither of us played great. I obviously shouldn't have ignored cultists, but it was definitely a fun win.

I thinking Golems normally wouldn't be very good when I have so many ruins, but bishop's trashing (from mine and his bishops) was enough to get rid of most of them.

I also wrote myself a little Dominion randomizer. Except I'm not much of a programmer and what I do know is bits and pieces of obsolete language like C. So I took an open source game written in C (Angband), and built my Dominion randomizer off of it. I describe it as a parasite who infested the game code and killed it while feeding off of its organs to grow into something completely different.

Weak on their own and more powerful in multiples would definitely be nice. Really what's holding me back is Dignitary. If I change Conscripts to discard down to 4 cards, then Curse, it means that using Dignitary's reaction against it is shooting yourself in the foot. I could drop Dignitary, but I like it and it plays well.
You could have it curse first, then discard down to 4.
"Each other player with more than 5 cards in hand discards down to 4, otherwise they gain a curse into their hand."

I liked Barrister better with the mini-rabble part. The new Barrister does almost nothing if it doesn't hit a domain, then has a strong effect if it does. That seems too luck-dependant.
I would make it like the old Barrister except to have it gain one domain from the trash instead of all of them.

Conquest looks fun, and I like removing the limit on Mill Town.
I'm still kinda sad to see Investment go. Here's a version that removes the penalty for investing multiples copies of a card. Probably too wordy though...
Quote
-Investment
Cost $5 - Action
+1$. You may choose an Action card from you hand. If you don't have a copy of that card set aside, set aside this and the chosen card (face up). Otherwise, set aside this with the previous set-aside copy. Return them to your deck at end of game. When you play an Action card, +$1 per Investment card set aside with a copy of that action.
Or maybe +1 Action instead of +$1 so you can play the action card you just invested easier if it's the second time.
