Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Action Attack Duration Reaction
« on: January 29, 2016, 08:56:22 pm »
It can stack if someone plays more than one attack that draws in a turn. (Or more than one of any attack with a draw in between.)

I like it though.

Why set the reaction aside?
This is only slightly shorter than what you said, but I think it'd be fine (depending on the length of the top half of course):

When an action card causes you to reveal cards from your deck, you may reveal (or discard) this to name a card. Set aside any revealed copies of the named card and discard them at the start of your next turn.

Another slightly shorter option that leaves the named cards on your deck:

When an action card causes you to reveal cards from your deck, you may reveal (or discard) this to name a card. Copies of the named card are immune to being trashed or moved by the action card.

I don't believe interactions with fortress need to be fixed. I mean doesn't fortress exist to break the game?

Interesting that Swamp Tower got so many votes given that it is, except for Embassy's on-gain silver thingy, strictly inferior to Embassy. It definitely has to cost < 5$.
It's okay to vote for a card even though we know the cost needs to be changed. Cards can always be tweaked.

Anyone want to play some develop games with me?(I don't have expansions) I am generally available 4:30-6:30 pm forum time and 9:00 - 11:00 forum time. PM me if you are able to play.
What's "forum time"?
The time the forums shows adapts to my time zone. Doesn't it do that for everyone else too?

Could you update the OP with the current versions of the cards?  (or put them in a new post)
After our game, I plan to add several of them to my fan card collection to print and use IRL.

I didn't find any card creating software that was included in the download (why do they hide these things?)...
From wherever you have Steam installed (likely either C:\Program Files\Steam or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam), you need to go to SteamApps\common\Tabletop Simulator\Modding\Deck Builder. From that folder, run "run_1_gb.bat" (which allocates 1GB of RAM for exporting your deck image).

Thanks, but I guess it's too late now, since I already got my cards into the simulator. And thanks for the card back .jpg.

I managed to build my Holy Order cards into a deck. Huzzah! Anyone know if any mod has the Dominion tokens, or how to make an apt substitute? Also, I'm up for trying a game with someone this weekend, if there's interest.
It has poker chips built in. Seems like those would work fine for most tokens. Not so much for the Adventures tokens, but I haven't seen Adventures cards for tabletop simulator anyway.

I thought I'd start a new thread, since this really has nothing to do with printing cards anymore.

EDIT: Ok, so I just installed Tabletop simulator along with the Dominion cards for it. The controls & stuff will take some getting used to, and I still have to figure out how to put my fan cards into it, but I'm getting started.

They have a little software for card creation packed into it (not inside the simulator, but comes with it), and there's a tutorial for card creation that explains it well. Just watch out you do NOT listen to tutotials that require you to build one gigantic file on your own. The software that's included can export such a printout sheet, no need to do it on your own. I might make a video about this.

I didn't find any card creating software that was included in the download (why do they hide these things?), but I did finally get my fan cards into the simulator, and even played a test game with myself just to see how playing in the simulator works. So I think I'm ready to invite other people to play my cards. So who wants to play who has Tabletop Simulator?
Also, the backs of my cards are not exactly the same as the Dominion cards I downloaded for the simulator. Is there a place I can get the exact card back picture used for the rest of the cards?

Ones I like better than others:

Archer: I like it (should cost $3 though), but it would be redundant with woodcutter in the base set. I might vote for it anyway though because I like to vote for the ones I think are the best fan-made cards regardless of whether they'd actually fit well in the set.

Florist: I first glance, I didn't think it was interesting, but when I think how it would actually play it'd probably be fun.

Ironsmelter: Again, probably doesn't fit well in the base set, but I like it anyway (possibly because it's kinda similar to my Iron Furnace card).

Pilgrim: This is new. Might be good, bue seems like it'd make the duchies run out too fast.

Swamp Tower: agree with LastFootnote: probably should cost 4, but I think I'll vote for it anyway.

Other ones I feel like commenting on:
Barracks: the attack is too weak to be worthwhile

Handler: Could be better than junk dealer if you're opponent is playing a curser.

Reconstruct: It's worth trying, but I think it'd make piles run out too fast. And it'd get dangerous past the beginning of the game like lookout, especially if there's a pile(s) of good cards already empty. If it's a card you want a lot of, then you don't want to trash it even if you can get a new one easily on the same turn.

Synod: Could be powerful while trashing coppers and estates, but it'd likely be a necropolis later on.

I've played some DND (mostly 3.5 and Pathfinder). I really like all the creativity and role playing fun to be had with it, but I haven't done much of that in a couple years for two reasons: 1) My RPGing friends keep wanting to try out new settings & systems (Star Wars, Firefly, Fallout, DC superheroes, etc, etc), play them for like 2-3 sessions and then on to the next one*. I really prefer the classic fantasy setting and sticking with the same setting for awhile. and 2) Time.
I've tried out GMing, but that takes even more time. Also me being really absent minded makes it hard to be a good GM. Once I forgot that a certain NPC was not present at the scene, and nobody realized the mistake until most of the scene was played out. So it turned out this nice ogre girl who was helping the PCs had a secret talent of being in two places at once.

(*Fortunately, that is a slight exaggeration.)

I think with "If you don't do either one, gain a silver into your hand", it would be strong enough for $5. That way, as it's most basic, it's an unactivated explorer. But you can sacrifice to make it +4 Cards, +1 Action.

Fortress is fortress. It's ability exists to make other cards crazy in combination with it.

1288
hm. Maybe it could be "If you don't do either one, gain a silver (into your hand?)."

The problem with Party Time IMO, is that it's way too wordy with the below the line part. Maybe if you cut the automatic copper gaining, then you won't need the drawback. It's easy enough to spend at least one of those buys on buying copper anyway. So do this:

Quote
Party Time
Cost $5 - Action
+2 Buys.
Reveal your hand and trash all revealed coppers.
+1VP and +$1 for each copper trashed this way.
If you didn't trash any coppers, +$2.

Also, you want to make sure the second +2 Cards on Army Man is contitional on the discard. Otherwise it can act like a Hunting Grounds. So:
Quote
Foot Soldier
Cost $4 - Action - Attack
+2 Cards.
You may discard 3 cards. If you do, +2 Cards and each other player discards down to 3 cards in hand.

1290
Thought of this too late for the Adventures set contest, so I thought I'd post it on its own.

Quote
Inventor
Cost $5 - Action
You may draw 3 cards. If you do, at the end of your clean-up phase take your -1 card token. You may trash a card costing at least $3. If you do, +1 Card, +1 Action. If you don't do either one, +$1.
Inventions are expensive and inventors are demanding, but they can produce big benefits.

Hmmm, based on the few submissions, I'm worried that the top half may simply be bad for generating react-to-gain ideas. But we did choose a top half specifically that would have interaction with gaining. So c'mon, another day to come up with some ideas! Even if they aren't great!

Well I already know which one I'm voting for (one that was posted earlier), so AFAIC we have enough submissions...

I already looked it up. it's $20.

Actually According to a tweet on their FAQ page  http://berserk-games.com/wiki/faq/ it is 9.99 for the next 13 hours at this link https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/tabletopsimulator_storefront
thanks for pointing that out

EDIT: Ok, so I just installed Tabletop simulator along with the Dominion cards for it. The controls & stuff will take some getting used to, and I still have to figure out how to put my fan cards into it, but I'm getting started.

Cool, thanks guys.
I'm still wondering if both people need to pay for Tabletop simulator in order to do that.

Quote
Innkeeper
Types: Action
Cost: $3
+1 Card, +1 Action.
Turn your Journey token over (it starts face up).  If it is face up, +1 Card, +1 Action.

I would buy so many of these that I would start hating the Journey Token. I think there may be a reason the Journey Token cards are terminal.

It might help to make it like this:
Quote
Innkeeper
Types: Action
Cost: $3
+2 Cards.
Turn your Journey token over (it starts face up).  If it is face up, +2 Actions.
Although if you can play two in a turn, it's not going to make a lot of difference.

Still deciding about getting Tabletop Simulator. I have a couple questions about it:

How much trouble is it to get all the cards in place to use Tabletop Simulator to play Dominion?

From what I've gathered it sounds like you can use it to play Dominion against another player somewhere else. When you do this, can one person connect to and use another person's account in Tabletop Simulator, or would they both have to have paid for it in order to play each other?

If I got Tabletop Simulator would other people here want to playtest my cards with me? (along with some of your fan cards.)

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Fan Made Cards You Can Play With??

You probably don't want to print directly on the blank cards, just put the printed out fan cards in the sleeve in front of the blank cards (or any cards you're not using that game).

Obviously, I'm going to suggest my own fan set: Resurgence. Last Footnote's Enterprise is good stuff and seems to be the most generally esteemed fan card set. Also, I have posted a list of fan cards that I have tested at least twice and think are good ones here. That and the links to other people's fan cards there will get you started with enough cards to last you a few years...

1299
I like the card as-is. I don't like the idea of removing the +1 Action to make it +2 VP mainly because a one-shot card is supposed to be powerful, and removing the action making a much bigger differenece in strength than changing +1 VP to +2 VP. I also like having the VP there. In games with only one VP token card, a few VP tokens from cards like this make a significant difference. Seems to me, lots of my games end with the provinces evenly split, so you have to watch the extra bits of VP that make the difference.

Is there a missing card?  mith said there were 18 submitted, but I only count 17.

Wow. hard to believe no one noticed that until now.
