Rules Questions / Re: Weaver
« on: July 03, 2022, 09:57:56 am »
Ok
So: when you have 0 cards in your deck and:
- Opponent plays Militia
-> You discard e.g. two Weavers
-> you “move” one Weaver back from discard pile to your Play Area to play it
-> you gain e.g. a card which says “+ 2  cards when gaining” and put it on the other Weaver in discard pile
-> you shuffle discard pile which becomes complete deck and get 2 cards from it in hand
-> the Stop-moving rule is activated on the second Weaver
-> second Weaver is not in discard pile anymore ( where it should be to activate te discard function of playing it), so you can’t “move” it to your play area and can not play it.

The Stop Moving Rule says: “If a card isn't where the effect would expect it to be, or has moved away from there and then back, it can't move the card.” It does not say “can’t play the card”. So I think the Weavers still can be “played” meaning execute the discard function.

Ok, lets say this counts for the first weaver (the reshuffle thing ), but how to explain why you can’t play afterwards the next weavers you have to / can discard and want them to gain silvers ?

The Wiki says: “When discarding multiple Weavers, if playing one of them triggers a reshuffle (e.g. it gains a Cavalry, then you can't play any of the other Weavers”
Can someone explain this in detail because I don’t get the interaction between Weaver and the reshuffle.

I see that there's a trivia section for each card, so here is all of the art trivia I can think of.

Bureaucrat: The art depicts the artist, Matthias Catrein.

Harem: The art depicts developer Valerie Putman. She's in the back, between the giant half face and the man.

Native Village: The art connects with Pirate Ship to the left.

Pearl Diver: The art depicts playtester Wei-Hwa Huang. He won a tournament at the Gathering of Friends where being depicted was the prize.

Island: The art connects with Pirate Ship to the right.

Navigator: The art depicts developer Dale Yu.

Pirate Ship: The art connects with Island to the left and Native Village to the right.

Bazaar: This art was turned in for Market, but by mistake another artist was also doing Market.

Scrying Pool: Village can be seen in the scrying pool.

City: This art was also used for the box for Carcassonne: The City.

Counting House: The art shows the victory point shield on the wall.

Goons: This art was turned in for Pawn.

Duchess: The art is related to the art for Duke.

Abandoned Mine: The art shows a ruined version of the art for Mine.

Mercenary: The art includes a dagger and red sash from Urchin.

Ruined Library: The art shows a ruined version of the art for Library.

Ruined Market: The art shows a ruined version of the art for Grand Market.

Ruined Village: The art shows a ruined version of the art for Walled Village.

Overgrown Estate: The art shows an overgrown version of the art for Estate, from Base Cards.

Storeroom: This art was turned in as an alternate option for Vault.

Sir Martin, Dame Anna, Dame Josephine, Sir Destry, Sir Michael, Sir Vander: The art depicts a playtester.

Pillage: The art shows Village, under attack.

Black Market: The expansion symbol is the Spielbox magazine symbol.

Envoy: The expansion symbol is the Wiener Riesenrad in Vienna.

Walled Village: The art shows the medieval village Carcassonne. The expansion symbol is a Carcassonne meeple.

Governor: The art continues art used for Puerto Rico: Anniversary Edition; the expansion symbol is from its cover.

Stash: The art includes faces of SdJ jury members on the coins. The expansion symbol is the award poppel.

Can you give an update for the last 10 years ;-)

Did not read all posts again (only first 5 😄).
Hope you bought 2E?
Just have a look at the updates on http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Update_Packs
Then read the Theme of the Expansions… no more words.

Excellent job Donald!!
P.S. Don’t even know why there are discussions thread’s about updated cards.
Just be happy with all these luxuries and play, play, play… with the second edition updated expansions 👊🏻

I'm a bit disappointed that the card that secretly has Junk Dealer's stats is now at the same price point as Junk Dealer.

Ok but it’s from different expansion so no big deal

War Chest:
Why is there no “0” or “?” value in the top right/left corner but a “blank”?

On Reddit, Donald X confirmed that it is a change that may be implemented for future printings: https://www.reddit.com/r/dominion/comments/v0uduh/comment/iaiqh7r/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

And be happy there still are 2E and (probably) new expansions to come out.

Hi Donald, hi Stef,
Just wondering about the status of the “complexity" feature for dominion.games?
It's done, but that release is waiting on the animations feature working, they're in the same "build." And that feature is waiting on random real-life factors for the person who did the work on it.
[/quot

43
Stef is currently working on a "complexity" feature for dominion.games. Since it's not done it's not finalized, but currently, you can pick a level of complexity from 1-10, and it determines the set of cards available. I picked what cards are at each level; it groups mechanics. Level 1 is just base, level 10 is everything, and in-between you have added whatever set of mechanics. So players who don't want to be swamped with new mechanics can ease into them; add 1 to complexity and a few new mechanics show up.

44
This counts Action cards in play, including Action cards played this turn, Duration cards in play from previous turns, and Reserve cards (from Dominion: Adventures) called into play this turn.

Other Rules clarifications:
Since the attempt to gain 2VP (and thus, the check to see how many Actions are in play) has "when-gain" timing, if another effect with "when-gain" timing brings more Actions into play (such as Duplicate being called), the player can choose to resolve the effect bringing the Actions into play first, delaying the attempted VP gain until after those effects are resolved. This can lead to instances where when an Emporium is first gained, fewer than 5 Actions are in play, but the player still gets 2VP, since they have chosen to do so after bringing a sufficient amount of Actions into play. For example, with only four Actions in play, a player could buy an Emporium, choose to call Duplicate first, then gain 2VP (since they now have 5 Actions in play), then another 2VP from the Duplicated Emporium.

In two player game one uses 8 victory cards instead of 12. How do you handle Dolmen in this situation?

Amazing:
Renaissance, Menagerie, Empires, Adventures

Good:
Intrigue (revised), Base (revised), Cornucopia+Guilds, Dark Ages

Needs revision:
Prosperity, Hinterlands, Seaside, Nocturne

Not good:
Alchemy

Dominion General Discussion / Back to Basic
« on: December 08, 2020, 07:14:58 pm »
Hi,

This poll is for those players who only play the Base set, but also for those who play the expansion games for ages.
I think that we can make a difference between the Basic player and the Expansion player.
As wel in real as online.

One of the reasons is that during the release of the expansions more and more mechanics and card types * (Duration, Command, Castle, Doom, Fate, Gathering, Heirloom, Knight, Looter, Night, Prize, Reserve, Ruins, Shelter, Spirit, Traveller, Zombie) were introduced.

Also Non-card types ** (Artifact, Boon, Event, Hex, Landmark, Project, State, Way) came into play.

As a non experienced player I can imagine that you think “This is too much info, too difficult, too complex, too …”.
And sometimes you wish “Can’t we keep it simple, but I like to play with more than just the cards from the Base Set?”.
And not only beginners think this, also experienced players sometimes just want to play an extensive basic game, not?
They want to practice their basic skills more often before buying Expansion boxes or to buy a Silver/Gold subscription online.

Therefore I thought, why can’t we go back to basics?

Let’s select basic mechanics from all expansions and make some “new” sets of Kingdom Cards.
 1) OK, let’s skip Alchemy, nobody likes them and Potion slows down to much ;-)
 2) Don't use the extra mechanics and Card types* (except Durations which is a non complex basic Action and fun to play).
 3) No Promo's
 4) Don't use Non Card Types **
 5) No extra (Kingdom Card) Piles (e.g. Bane)
 6) No extra Materials (Tokens, Mats, Wooden cubes,...)

With this reductions and my own Fun Experience I tried to make 5 Large Base Sets:
 - 3 sets (Novice, Cadet and Rookie) with mixed cards from all expansions (except Base and Alchemy)
 - 1 set (Prophecy) with cards from Seaside, Prosperity, Dark Ages and Hinterlands
 - 1 set (Optio) with cards from Cornucopia/Guilds, Adventures, Empires, Nocturne, Renaissance and Menagerie

I hope you like them and am curious about your comments.

Extra info for set 1 to 4:
- Prosperity includes Platinum, a Treasure card that produces $5 and costs $9, and Colony, a Victory card that gives 10 VP and costs $11.
These may be included in the Supply in games using Kingdom cards from Prosperity.
- Dark Ages also includes Shelters, cards costing $1 which can replace Estates in players' starting decks and never appear in the Supply.
These may be used in games including Kingdom cards from Dark Ages.

So, the poll question is simple. Which set do you like most?
Or rephrased: If this were real sets in shop and you only have money to buy one, which one would you pick?

Other way around is possible, not?
Playing STD and then Fleet means 3 turn in a row.
Playing Outpost, StD and Fleet means 4 turn in a row.

It's only in a row if it's your last turn AND nobody else bought Fleet.

I think this is incorrect.
You can get 3 or 4 turn in a row even if other player bought Fleet.
But only if you are the player ending the game.
Other player(s) who bought Fleet also can get an extra turn also after you finished the game.
