How do you feel about cards that sometimes have effects which will be irrelevant in some games? (Like Footpad, some games you wont be able to gain in action phase). Do you care about how small the chance is of this happening, do you look to not have many of these, or do you just not care at all (footpad is basically 2 way different cards in the 2 scenarios) Just your general thoughts
At the moment there are 37 cards that have the “When you gain another card” triggered effect.
And A LOT more other triggered effects.
All of them will be irrelevant sometimes, that’s just part of the game.

They don't have the 'in an Action phase' clause.
Correct, but the question specifically was "cards that sometimes have effects being irrelevant in some games".
Footpad was just an example.

Do the artists get to maintain the rights to their work, or do you or the publisher purchase the rights?  If ownership is not with the artist, any chance of a Dominion Art Book or something similar sometime in the future?  I'd absolutely pay to see high-res versions of the artwork.
I don't own any art; I think the publisher does. I don't imagine there's enough interest in a book; you could mention your interest to the publisher and see if it piles up.
You can find a list of all art at

Ok, Ménagerie now !  :) :) :) :) :)

So... Among the latest expansions, your position is that Menagerie is the best one in the category "fun and not too complex" ?
For me this is a very fun expansion.
It introduces Ways, the Exile mat, Horses and adds more Events and Duration cards.
Might seem a lot of new items, but they are not too complex.
You can introduce them one by one.
There are (only?) 3 Attack cards, but in a special sneaky way.

Thx all of you...

Then the question is not at all "Dark ages or Nocturne ?", but "Adventures or Renaissance ?"...

Or both ? How would you compare them to Allies ?

Ohhhh, so many options....
I was going to recommend Menagerie.
I also would recommend Menagerie

What card is the second Moat supposed to be?

Is it Moat?
What am I missing?
I only count 9 cards in the Kingdom.
And a second (mistyped?) Moat, not?

Yeah, there's no engine on that one. Big Money with two Witches might be competitive, or maybe there's some sort of Good Stuff Deck with a bunch of Markets and one Witch, and maybe a Cellar or two.

Wouldn’t you always buy Poacher over Silver on $4?
At least one or two

If e.g. you play Urchin/Skirmisher/Urchin/trash the first Urchin, then you trigger Skirmisher’s effect.

I sometimes buy two of them. One for action cards and one for estates.

The one nobody wants to buy, but if you keep picking it up, it can be brutal… Fool’s Gold.

Rules Questions / Re: Inherited Knights
« on: December 19, 2022, 09:47:27 am »
When games using Inherited Knights, what happens?

1. Player A chooses a Knight from 10, player B chooses from 9, and so on.
2. Player A picks up the top Knight from shuffled Knights  pile, Player B picks up the next Knight, and so on.
3. None of the above.
In multiplayer IRL, I recommend not putting Inherited on a split pile, unless that's the fun you want. It's as easy as that. Online, there is not so much multiplayer, and if it comes up, well you can reroll the board if you want. You're playing with friends there, right? No regrets here.

This means that now we need an official order of resolving the setup instructions from different sets. If the Shelters setup or the Heirlooms setup had come after the Traits setup, a Shelter or Heirloom couldn't be replaces by Inherited.

Also, if the Young Witch setup comes after the Traits setup, the Bane pile can't be chosen for a Trait. I don't know if there's an official ruling on that one.

Dutch Rule Book says (translated):
- Handing out the deck (Coppers/Estates) is the last step in preparation. So no problem there.
- Each game is determined by the players in consultation with which 10 of the xx species will be played. So use common sense to fix e.g. Bane "problem" ;)

Loot cards become (very) interesting for a lot of upgrade 'Remodelers', turning the Loot into Province (+1) (endgame) or Platinum/Grand Castle (+2)

For clarification: You say that Inherited can replace any starting card - this would include any Heirlooms, right?
Correct

Inherited Rebuild. Now there's a time you may want to replace a Copper.
Also when Inheritance is on the table  :)

Does Inherited work from the top of the pile first, or are we all starting with a Fortune this game?
No, you all get a Gladiator. Except in a 6 player game, then the last Player is the lucky one :-)

Inherited an Overlord and the game is on 😁

@ Donald X.
In the explanation of Pious you mention "...you also get to trash a card from your hand.", but the card text says "may trash".
Does this mean that there maybe was a previous test version which said "obliged trash"? Or did you just made a mistake in the explanation?

I hate “the other player”-theme. It slows the game down so it sucks.

Rules Questions / Re: Weaver
« on: July 03, 2022, 09:57:56 am »
Ok
So: when you have 0 cards in your deck and:
- Opponent plays Militia
-> You discard e.g. two Weavers
-> you “move” one Weaver back from discard pile to your Play Area to play it
-> you gain e.g. a card which says “+ 2  cards when gaining” and put it on the other Weaver in discard pile
-> you shuffle discard pile which becomes complete deck and get 2 cards from it in hand
-> the Stop-moving rule is activated on the second Weaver
-> second Weaver is not in discard pile anymore ( where it should be to activate te discard function of playing it), so you can’t “move” it to your play area and can not play it.
