Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Xerxes's cards
« on: January 19, 2018, 03:43:46 pm »
Stamp Collector feels like it's needs something else. The main ability is just a nerfed version of "+3 actions", which is extra weird because it already gives +1 action by itself. Maybe if that first +1 action were +? If it's too strong; it could replace the buy.
If it doesn't have the +1 Action, it struggles badly when you have it and a terminal draw in hand. On the other hand, maybe that's a good thing to tone down the power? I'm worried about it becoming too weak without the +action.

Coin instead of buy sounds okay though.

It's much easier to get than King's Court, but also doesn't stack as well at all. I don't remember running into trouble testing it, but if saying 'non-stamp collector' is worth the text, that's a possible change.

It looks like the images aren't working well, maybe that's because ibb is a bad image host?

Variants and Fan Cards / Xerxes's cards
« on: January 18, 2018, 05:17:38 pm »
Hello everyone, I'm back!

I went through my old cards, found major problems with most of them, mocked up all the ones I didn't. Here they are. I might try to make it into a set some time, though I'm not sure.

Quote
Like Conclave or Imp, it's a fun way to do extra actions, and this is different from either of those.

Quote
A simple Peddler-, which works well with +buy.

Quote
Exchange makes this simpler, the cantrip makes it okay to buy late in the game, Reformer makes for some fun turns.

Quote
Unlike Harbinger, this is a terminal action, so you can play another terminal if the timing is bad. Good for reliability, perhaps a little weak.

Quote
One of my favorite cards in the set, surprisingly difficult to word optimally. You don't want to allow for end-of-game province gaining, but it might be too weak if only allowing kingdom cards. That's an option, though.

Quote
The last one, a little random, but the unreliability allows for its effect to be stronger which makes for a more fun experience.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Nocturne: Yay or nay?
« on: January 16, 2018, 10:39:38 pm »
Yay as long as you have a few other sets.

When you have kingdoms with a lot of Night, it cuts down on the interestingness of the action phase. Also, lots of the cards have auxiliary cards you need to use (spirits, heirlooms, hexes, boons, states), and if you have too many, it gets overwhelming.

Weasel Tunneler has a bug that means that when it happens twice, one goes in your opponent's deck and the other in your deck.

I'm playing with Malchezar in Arena, and in the first game my legendaries were Sylvanus and Justicar. (I still ended up winning only by 1 HP because I tend to take too much face damage) Sergeant Sally might still have been a better choice, as I have a bunch of buff cards, but Prince Malchezar is too fun.

If you can play the leper-gnome creating legendary before you die, it's an OTK vs taunt dreadsteed.

I just went 3-3 with a deck with 2xFWA,3x ghoul,Fool's Bane,Malkorok,Deathwing, reasonable curve. Never drew the Malkorok, got the deathwing only once, died to burst damage.

I got about 6 mage runs in a row (one of which had 3 legendaries, one of which was Dr. Boom and 3 firelands portals), which got me on my first semi-infinite streak. But now I lost my luck and drafted a horrible shaman deck.

So much comes down to the combination of average card quality and early game luck.

I'm drafted a random arena deck - so far I'm 3-0, but I'm guessing I'll end up 3-3.

I just beat someone with Rhonin, Moroes, and Hogger. That's a lot of legendaries.

Beat another person with a legendary, then lost to someone with a Ysera.

To be clear, I like doubles a lot too - when I go on pokemonshowdown for a randomized game, I always prefer doubles or triples to random singles.

(and you've talked before about how entry hazards are balanced badly for 6v6 singles, and I agree)

I guess it just seems less random to me for some reason, and the games go on longer, which is nice for competitive play.

6v6 Singles is thought to be the coolest of the formats - see for example how Ash vs Gary, Ash vs Paul, Ash vs Alain, are all 6v6 singles.

Personally I agree, though I don't have anything against people preferring doubles. I find switching to be one of the main strategic draws of Pokemon, and you get much less of that in doubles.

Edit: LastFootnote, what's wrong with OU? It seems to be much more healthy than VGC doubles, for which tons and tons of teams had just the same 5 pokemon + 1.

In Kripp's video he claimed that the card would be marginal even at 0 mana, and I _really_ disagree with that. It would be crazy at 0 mana. People complain about Flamewreathed Faceless being a "4 mana 7/7" already and that has 2 overload. Plus at 0 mana, you can cycle it for free whenever you have a minion in play that isn't hurt by silence.

I agree that it would be crazy at 0 mana, but still, keep in mind that something being a 2 mana combo makes it a lot worse.

Yeah, that's the leak. At least the final Litten evolution will supposedly be fire/dark, not fire/fighting, but still, the art isn't that exciting to me, at least compared to what it could have been.

The archer Rowlet evolution looks really cool though.

I love the Alola forms - I'm somewhat disappointed the sandshrew doesn't keep its ground type at least as a secondary type, but they all look amazing.

I dislike Z-moves for the same reason I dislike Mega-evolutions, but I can't really explain why. Just not my style.

The dancing bird is cool, as is the donkey pokemon - I hope they'll be good.

I'm beginning to doubt the average score has too much impact compared to draw luck - that 72.9 deck I got 3-3 with (granted, 2 losses were from disconnect), and I just went 12-0 for the first time with a rogue deck that had an average of less than 70.

It's all about the reasonably good curve I had every game.

Bladed Cultist
Deadly Poison
Journey Below
Lowly Squire
Defias Ringleader
Dire Wolf Alpha
Mad Bomber
Sap
Ship's Cannon
Twisted Worgen
Undercity Valiant
Perdition's Blade
Scarlet Crusader
Shade of Naxxramas
Shadow Strike
Si:7 Agent
Aberrant Beserker
Defender of Argus
Gnomish Inventor
3x Southsea Squidface
Assassinate
Dark Iron Skulker
Pit Fighter
Shadowcaster
Argent Commander
Kidnapper
Bog Creeper
Gruul

Here's the warrior deck I just drafted - I think if I played it in a place with stable wi-fi I would have a good chance of getting 7+ wins, because I have 5 weapons and a pretty good curve. Heartharena gives it a 72.9, which I gather is pretty good.

Blood to Ichor
Execute
N'Zoth's First Mate
Worgen Infiltrator
----
Commanding Shout
Cruel Taskmaster
2x Fiery War Axe
Gilblin Stalker
Mad Bomber
Mechwarper
----
Argent Horserider
Bloodsail Cultist
2x Harvest Golem
Ogre Brute
Shield Block
---
Aberrent Beserker
Death's Bite
Mortal Strike
Tomb Spider
---
Corrupted Healbot
Mukla's Champion
Salty Dog
---
Master Jouster
Nerubian Prophet
---
Malkorok
2x Obsidian Destroyer
Varian Wrynn

I know this is the Hearthstone thread, but has anyone here played Faeria yet? It's a really fun digital game played out on a hexagonal board that has some really deep strategy. I have a key to give out to anyone who's interested.

I got it only a few (2?) months ago, and have played 236 hours already.

I want to second the recommendation of Harry Potter and the Natural 20. The 3rd "book" is unfinished, but the whole thing is just really funny and exciting.

I also found worm through HPMOR, and I'm so happy I did.
