Rules Questions / Re: Hasty Territory
« on: March 05, 2024, 04:31:58 pm »
I thiiiink that there is a way to "play" it, namely, the way to play it is that the Hasty trait tells you to play it. So you put it in your play area at the start of your turn, nothing interesting happens as a result of that, and then discard it during cleanup. I guess if you bought a Grand Castle you'd get a bonus point out of it.

Oops! Did my mental math wrong.

Random, yes, but not swingy. Both players start out with the same Inherited card (with the exception of the Knight pile being chosen, which would indeed be very swingy), so there's no element of chance in getting it, unlike, say, certain strong $5 cards where a 5/2 or 2/5 opening can be a massive advantage. Inherited discard attacks can add an element of swinginess to the opening, but most Inherited cards are the opposite of swingy

I'm not sure I agree with this! If the Inherited card is a terminal silver, for example, the difference between a 6/3 opening and a 5/4 opening can be very important (and the two possibilities are almost equally probable, unlike the relatively low-probability 5/2 opening in an ordinary game). If the inherited card draws, having it on your first turn vs. your second turn can have major implications for reshuffle timing.

I certainly only use dominion.games and I never have trouble finding a game there.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Cornucopia & Guilds 2E
« on: February 11, 2024, 07:22:30 pm »
Are the new cards going to be labeled as some Guilds cards and some Cornucopia cards, or since the two expansions are sold as one now are they just going to be a bunch of Guilds & Cornucopia cards?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Buying decision

Renaissance might be the one for you; it's less complex than most recent expansions and doesn't have a lot of Attacks.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Card types and Hinterlands
« on: December 09, 2023, 04:58:36 pm »
To my surprise, this sentence I wrote in 2013 appears to still be true:

Quote
Hinterlands... is the only expansion to contain more than one Treasure, more than one Reaction, and more than one Victory card among its Kingdom cards.

To wit:

Base: 0 Treasure, 1 Reaction, 1 Victory
Intrigue: 1 Treasure, 1 Reaction, 4 Victory
Seaside: 0 Treasure, 0 Reaction, 1 Victory
Alchemy: 1 Treasure, 0 Reaction, 1 Victory
Prosperity: 8 Treasure, 1 Reaction, 0 Victory
Cornucopia: 1 Treasure, 1 Reaction, 1 Victory
Hinterlands: 3 Treasure, 3 Reaction, 3 Victory
Dark Ages: 1 Treasure, 2 Reaction, 2 Victory
Guilds: 1 Treasure, 0 Reaction, 0 Victory
Adventures: 3 Treasure, 1 Reaction, 1 Victory
Empires: 7 Treasure, 0 Reaction, 8 Victory (counting the Castles separately)
Nocturne: 1 Treasure, 1 Reaction, 1 Victory
Renaissance: 3 Treasure, 1 Reaction, 0 Victory
Menagerie: 2 Treasure, 5 Reaction, 0 Victory

Still true!

Seaside: 1 Treasure, 1 Reaction, 1 Victory
Prosperity: 9 Treasure, 2 Reaction, 0 Victory
Hinterlands: 2 Treasure, 6 Reaction, 2 Victory
Allies: 3 Treasure, 0 Reaction, 3 Victory
Plunder: 14 Treasure, 2 Reaction, 0 Victory

Will it remain true with Rising Sun? Only time will tell!

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Reckless Black Cat bug
« on: December 08, 2023, 01:38:21 am »
I just played a game (#135263557) where Black Cat had the Reckless trait, but it didn't seem to work properly: when I gained a Victory card, my opponent played Black Cat, and the card's effects activated twice but it was never returned to the supply.

14
I'm still generally confused as to why "undo" is even a feature in online dominion. At least the way it's implemented. If you've seen new information, then undo should simply never be possible. That's how pretty much any group I know would play IRL. If you haven't seen new information, then undo should be automatic without needing to request it.

It's a courtesy, since playing online is much faster than playing IRL and it's easy to just zone out and do the wrong thing. I'm sure there's many times when I just thought I had one more buy than I did, bought a cheap card thinking I'd be able to buy another cheap card, saw my turn immediately end, and immediately clicked undo, and was very grateful for the option even though I'd technically seen my next hand already. IRL what would happen is I'd take my two villages and my opponent would say "pretty sure you have only one buy there sport" and I'd go "oh right" and put them back and take a Gold or whatever. and the undo button is the online equivalent of that.

15
Ironically "reckless scheme" is much more reliable, safe, and consistent than an ordinary scheme

Rules Questions / Re: Encampment and Throne Room Variants
« on: August 18, 2023, 09:18:28 am »
You return it. This is because, when you fail to reveal a Gold or Plunder on the first play, you set the Encampment aside immediately; even if you reveal a Gold or Plunder on the next play, the Encampment is already set aside and it's too late to get it back.

Rules Questions / Re: Royal Galley and actions
« on: July 31, 2023, 06:04:53 pm »
Yes. Royal Galley makes you play King's Court (not using up your action), and King's Court makes you play Patrol (not using up your action), and then, once you're done doing that and whatever other abilities are activated at the start of your turn, you still have your regular action to play an Action card from your hand.

Dominion Articles / Re: The Clashes - A Summary
« on: July 12, 2023, 09:03:43 pm »
I've never really felt my gameplay to be substantially hampered by the Warlord attack—sure, once in a while I'd have a third copy of a card I couldn't play, but usually my engine would be based on enough differently-named cards, or Archer attacks would prevent me from having three of the same card anyway. I've usually found Warlord's duration draw effect to be more impactful.

19
Also works with Frog, Ox or Pig.

True, though Pig nerfs Cultist enough that it might not be worth it.

20
Cultist / Way of the Mule. It's very handy to play a chain of Cultists for draw and then use the last one as Way of the Mule to make the sequence nonterminal.

Rules Questions / Losing track of Trail
« on: June 18, 2023, 06:12:01 pm »
If you discard two Trails and play the first one, and that causes you to reshuffle, you can't then play the second Trail, right?

But if you gain two Trails (to your discard pile) and play the first one, and that causes you to reshuffle, you can still play the second Trail because it isn't gained until after you finish resolving the on-gain effects of the first one, right?

Dominion General Discussion / Am I a slow player
« on: May 12, 2023, 08:18:26 pm »
Someone on Dominion.games said something and it's gotten into my head. Do I have a reputation as a slow player? Do people recommend blocking me? I think more than likely this person was just trying to mess with me but I'm really worried about it now.

General Discussion / Re: Dominion terms
« on: May 05, 2023, 11:05:33 am »
In early stages of English, only c was used, even in native Germanic-origin words: consider Old English cynd (modern kind), cyning (king), cepan (keep). The letter k was introduced to English writing in the Middle English period, i.e., after the 11th century.

Old High German, on the other hand, seems to have used both k and c interchangeably, before standardizing on k in the modern period.

(Disclaimer: I am a linguist, but this isn't my area of expertise; I don't know much detail about the history of writing systems in the Germanic languages and I could be mistaken here.)

As of the 2022 errata, Patron's reaction is only triggered during the action phase.
