Sorry I have now full claimed and everytime I claimed more you just said you that's scummier.

I said I don't see how a ww team that is lynchproof an bullet proof and has day chat is viable.

You forgot that you don't have a NK, just a neighborizer recruit.  What was your stated win condition?

  • Public flips.  When you die, your alignment and role name will be revealed.

Because that's happened each time.

When people have actually died, it has happened.  Morgrim didn't die.  All we had was flavor to indicate that he was dead, and we were told that "flavor doesn't matter" (even though it does in some sense, just not in the rules sense) so when we were eventually sorta not told Morgrim's alignment and role I pretty much assumed that he wasn't actually dead (flavor hinted he wasn't dead too).  Given that we have a claim that explains the no lynch outside of Morgrim, it seems to me that Morgrim was just...in limbo?...until he hammered someone.  He almost certainly couldn't post until he hammered.

Still looking at everything, not really sold on mcmc right of this moment but that could change once I work everything out.

While you were typing 10 new replies have been posted.
While you were typing (actually reading the 10 new replies) 3 new replies have been posted.

Sheesh.

F Wes S Gas -> Spa/nc is not a legal move.  Or at least I don't think it should be.  Good thing it was cut anyway.

I've aways found using Printing Press with Reformation as your top purple to be very historically accurate.

Innovation General Discussion / Re: Revaluating Writing
« on: April 05, 2013, 11:45:03 pm »
I'm not a fan of Writing at all.  Let's look at All of Age 2 from the first few turns' perspective.  What do you want to do on the opening turns?  Meld cards and draw cards to give you more options, and compete for Castle dominance to force them to share the good dogmas.  What does this in Age 2?

Calendar - You need to score at least one card first.  Metalworking and Clothing do that well.  If those are your other starting cards, this is at least a useful draw off Writing.
Canal Building -  Useless.
Currency - Useless.
Construction - Demand is useless if you've used Writing to bypass Age 1, as it gives them a 2.  Achieve is not going to happen in the first few turns, especially without something like Domestication.
Fermenting - To be better than Writing, you'd need Pottery or Clothing as your other card.  In those exact situations, this is a good card to draw.
Mapmaking - If your opponent scored big early with Clothing and Metalworking this could be huge, but you'd need to make sure you're up on crowns.  Plus, this is much better when the bonus score is a 3 or higher.
Mathematics - Potentially useful.  A lot can be said about this elsewhere, but this is incredibly risky without anything else on your board.
Monotheism - Ok, maybe nice, 3 Castles, plus a potentially neat demand effect when you have no board.
Philosophy - Useless.
Road Building - Without 2 cards to meld in hand, useless.

So, why do I want to draw 2s instead of a chance at draw Wheel, Domestication, Mysticism, Sailing, Clothing, or Metalworking?

I haven't read BM1-4, so I guess there's that.  But still, if its been used before in BM on f.ds, that makes me think it is even less likely to be the case here.

So I am clearly not scum without a night-kill, because there likely aren't any.  Just a few posts ago I must have been scum without a night kill to even suggest the possibility.

57
I think only scum that can't kill brings up the idea of scum that can't kill.

Maybe, just maybe, I read the other Bastard games that have been run here.  And it's also within the realm of possibility that one of the previous Bastard games had a scum faction that didn't have a night-kill.

But no, obviously I must be a scum faction with a night kill, because it's such a new and truly original idea that no one else, especially not jtotheonah, would ever have used it before.

58
Some typos near the end of that post that I didn't catch in previews because I tend to assume what I just wrote is perfect.  "our" for "out" in the last sentence and "tells" for "tell" at the end of the previous paragraph.

59
Town read on axxle as usual. Town read on Joth, he's comin out of the gate how I expect him too but it's not forced. Still curious of rashisi and ash(i believe) while I like speculation of the setup any unconventional setups are more likely to be suggested by people who would fit into them.

Razisshi is suspect, for sure, from his last post.

Hopefully this post will be "good", I don't have much time to make it, but some decent thought went into it.

I don't see the point of scum making a kill on Axxle2.  He didn't make a single post all day, so why would the scum be concerned about him?  No, I think Axxle2 was a Vig kill by a Town Vampire whose NK is mandatory.  If Scum had a NK, it was somehow blocked, but it's also possible there is no scum with a NK.  Remember, this is a Bastard game.  There might be no scummy scum, or what passes for scum has no NK.

Scum without an NK?  What is that?  Who thinks of that?  Scum without an NK.  I mean, it is just way out there, and a neat idea for a bastard game, but I don't think someone normally suggests this as a possibility.

vote: Razzishi

Are you playing a different game than I am?  I'm pretty sure this game isn't normal.  Recall that there were no rules posted at all.  We have no reason to believe that the standard game of Mafia is even being played.  For instance, one of my many theories is that we're all Town.  How would there be a game, you ask?  Well, consider that I am told I win when there are no threats to me left.  Maybe some of the Townsfolk are threats to me, and some aren't.  Those supposed threats might be in the same boat I am, winning when there are no threats to them left.  They're not scum because they have a town-styled win condition and no night-kill, but they might still be designated a threat to me because of flavor reasons or whatever.  I suspect each of us (or at least the vast majority of us) is a werewolf, vampire, alien, conspiracy theorist, piece of cheese, or similar that certain other groups consider threatening, but not all groups.  We have no clue which groups are threatening, we just have to play until the mod tell us the game is over.

My attitude towards this is certainly going to draw suspicion on me, but consider the fact that I chose to play in a Bastard game for my first one here.  I like thinking up wild and crazy ideas for how the mod is going to screw around with out preconceptions of how Mafia is played, and I would regardless of my alignment.

I suppose I meant LoL is more fun for mostly the same reasons that everyone cites when claiming DoTA is better.  That is, the DoTA game mechanics claimed to make it a better game generally make the game less fun for me.

DoTA is a "better" game.  LoL is more fun.  Which do you care about more?

I don't really think there's any way lynching Morgrim could be a good thing for us.

Where "us" means "me and my faction"?

Key point: Lightning came before Lighting (if Lightning even counts as an innovation) :D

More on-topic: I'm surprised that there aren't any cards that significantly attack your opponent's hand in the base set other than Machinery and Composites...

Refrigeration. Explosives.

Classification too, but these are all probably too slow to stop this combo.

Probably a bit too little too late for Classification to really have an effect.  Even if you can steal a few cards, you wont' stop their massive scorers.  You could try to steal their scorers, but if you wait until they draw all the 7s to be sure you can get both Bicycle and Lighting on the same turn, they'll probably end up melding one of them first.  If you try to take Bicycle first, you'll cover Classification, leaving them free to use Lighting.  While it's slightly slower at scoring, Lighting also helps run out the rest of the piles giving you less turns to find an answer to their score pile.

Refrigeration?  You're going to make a Leaf demand against the 14+ Leaf board?

Explosives?  Sure, take three of my highest cards, whatever, I'm drawing 7+ at a time.

Sorry metathuhlu, this game went, um, rather well.  I'm still getting this figured out but winning on achievements on turn 8 is pretty good, right?

(And yeah, it turns out Metalworking scoring 9 cards on turn 2 is pretty broken.)

Innovation General Discussion / Re: Industrialization >:(

Industrialization is terrible in the base game.

Well, it's at least balanced.  I've had games where it's done practically nothing for me, and I only activate it for the splays (and maybe not even then).  This is the second occasion I've seen people become frustrated with Industrialization in echoes, and now I get why.  The rule is to draw an echoes card when you have a base card in hand and no echoes card, forcing you to do something with the echoes card before you get access to another.  But with Industrialization, you are directly tucking the cards you draw, allowing you access to all the special things the echoes cards can get you with minimal effort.  There's nothing else that tucks so massively directly from the draw piles; most of it is limited to one or two cards at a time, or force the cards to come from your hand.

Innovation General Discussion / Re: Time allocated to players
« on: March 31, 2013, 10:39:29 pm »
Time allowed before the force resign dialog comes up does dwindle as you continue to play at a reasonable pace.  There was one particular game where I had the dialog come up almost every single turn, almost immediately, and while the game was slowly falling out of my grasp I managed to resist the urge to make my opponent resign since they had finally started to pick up their place of play a bit.  It was a very complex game and we both were rather new, so it didn't bother me too much.

70
At least one person has said that they didn't get the role they requested, and as for me, I didn't request any particular role.  It would be interesting to hear just how many people did get the role that they asked for.  Unless you've made it known what you asked for somewhere else, this should be a complete null-tell as to alignment.  We were told we'd all get power roles, so there's no bias there in coming out in saying you got a power role.

Log Bug report:

http://innovation.isotropic.org/gamelog/201303/31/game-20130331-124126-f947b6c3.html

I activate Mysticism, sharing it.  The log shows my opponent processing the effect, then says I achieve Empire when my board start hasn't changed according to the log.  The board state at end of game at the top of the log shows that I indeed have the required icons, but that I have a Quantum Theory that isn't accounted for in the log.  Now I clearly drew and melded the Quantum Theory off of Mysticism, but the log doesn't actually say that.

Also, melding Quantum Theory off Mysticism is kinda silly, although I suppose there are aspects of Quantum Theory that are more or less mystical.

So, for those who don't know, eHal is the king of flavor.  It is super important.
He said so himself that it wasn't important! And eHalc would never mislead us

...right?

If eHal is the king of flavor, that doesn't necessarily mean that flavor means anything.  It's just flavor, right?  Well, the fact that this is a bastard game and he seems so vociferous about making sure we know that flavor is unimportant that we definitely need to be on the lookout for clues from the flavor, but at the same time those clues are likely misleading.  The part about the 5 different kinds of scum along with the heavily waffling over whether there actually are threats to the town makes me think that there isn't any traditional scum team in this game.  There could be a pseudo-scum faction without a night kill, rendering the game semi-nightless (town still has investigative roles), or there could be a bunch of SKs each with a different flavor.  Hell, maybe both.

The one thing's that's certain is that this is a game of mafia that isn't over, and thus town needs to lynch at least one person in order to win.  As much as I don't trust Morgrim's attempt to get votes on him, he could just be intentionally trying to get people away from voting for him the one time he's finally scum.  If something interesting happens when he gets lynch, that's cool too.  I just don't see him as VT or a town PR if he's actively trying to get people to vote for him, and if a Jester is included in the game then we should just let them win and get on with the rest of the game.

Vote: Morgrim
