That's a strange one. The first half feels like a Project, but the second half feels like an Event.

It's almost like you want another kind of token, alongside Coffers and Villagers, which you can discard to avoid an attack. But that feels like such a passable idea Donald X has surely tried it. It's not in a set, so maybe it actually sucks? (-8

Hmm. "Way of the noob" makes me think "Way of the boon".

I wonder if "+1 Action, receive a Boon" would be too strong for a Way?

To me, the Really Bad part of that Card Idea is the problem with working out how to weight different possibilities. How do you choose "randomly" among the possibilities for what Chapel does, for example? (-8

Hang on a sec: there's no default place to Exile stuff from. Every card with the mechanic says "Exile this", or "Exile X from the Supply", "Exile Y from your hand", etc.

Not saying where to exile from would be Really Bad, especially if someone thought to Exile a card that belonged to another player. (-8

(What was the intent of Way of the Prince? Exiling from the supply is pretty strong; exiling from your hand somewhat less so!)

Thanks to the plague, I've still not managed to try Menagerie, but my initial instinct is that buying $2 kingdom cards in order to play them as a Way sounds like an interesting twist to gameplay rather than something broken?

(I also want to see what happens with Ways and Ruins, of course!)

You can legally overpay by more than one potion, but not for any good reason: nothing costs more than one potion, so you can't gain anything that way.

If you overpay by exactly $2+potion, yes, you can gain two Universities.

My own least-bad suggestion for Noble Brigand:

Noble Brigand: Action - Attack, $4
+$1
Steal: each other player reveals the top 2 cards of their deck, trashes a revealed Silver or Gold you choose, discards the rest, and gains a Copper if they didn't reveal a Treasure. You gain the trashed cards.

When you buy this, use it to Steal.

Playing online and playing physically aren't the same. Some things are easier, some harder. I know several designers who've been playtesting prototypes online this year, and none of them are willing to release their designs before they've played them physically.

The way I think of this (he says, nervously looking over his shoulder at the previous commenter) is that the Buy phase is composed of two sub-phases: the Play-Treasures sub-phase and the Make-Purchases sub-phase.

You can spend Coffers during any Play-Treasures sub-phase.

Project

During your turns, cards with names that are anything to do with royalty or nobility are also Victory cards.

Now Scout can draw your Throne Rooms, King's Courts, Crowns, Princes, Barons, etc. (-8

Estates are bad. If you're not going to trash them, even if you're going to trash Copper instead of trashing them, you need some specific niche use for them in mind.

Estates are still bad even if you have a Crossroads. Sure, if you have Crossroads and Estate in hand together you can use Crossroads to draw another card, but what if you have an Estate without a Crossroads alongside? And don't forget that playing Crossroads might draw another Estate.

So what about Opulent Castle? If you play an Opulent Castle then:
  • Either 4 or 6 other Castles have already been purchased
  • You managed to afford $7 to buy that Opulent Castle
To have reached that point in the game, how much buying power would you expect the average card in your deck to have? In the most straightforward case, $1.4 so a five-card hand gave you $7. An Estate is worth $2 if drawn with Opulent Castle but $0 otherwise; are you certain that's not dragging down the average quality of your deck?

Just posted this in the weekly design contest as a joke, figured it goes here:

Hoarder
Action
Gain any number of Coppers.
It combos with moneylender, gardens, and it counters mountebank! It can't be that bad of a card!
Yes! Give me those 7 vp gardens every turn! Also, Duke/Duchy almost every turn. Gets countered hard by handsize attacks.
The combo with Travelling Fair and Counting House would be... powerful.

Surely another big problem with the restriction on gaining Duchies before Estates have run out and Provinces before Duchies have run out is that the game will almost always end on piles before a single Province is gained?

I mean, the odds are at least one other pile would also be empty by then.

Nine times out of ten, I expect Filling Station would be inferior to Swashbuckler, so $6 is overpriced.

Meanwhile, if Motel turns out to be any good then in a two-player game both players will buy one, then the first person to play one will gain Motel #3 and trash Model #4, #5. Not a half-pile that would last very long. (-8
