General Discussion / Re: 2018 FIFA World Cup
« on: June 18, 2018, 09:46:46 am »
I feel like there's been a lot more draws and own goals this world cup than normal.
3 draws from 11 matches doesn't sound out of the ordinary.

That's true. Most of these matches have been pretty low-scoring. IIRC only 2 of the matches played so far have had one team scoring 3 or more points. Usually by now you have at least a couple of matches where one of the teams has scored 4 or 5 or at least 3 goals.

Edit: Changed "points" to "goals"

As a dual-citizen of the USA and Germany, I'm still mad about the USA not making it in. Especially since all we had to do to make it in in the end was to get a draw against Trinidad and Tobago. We didn't even have to beat them!   :(  :(  :(  :(
If North America gets 2026, hopefully we can pull some miraculous upset off then

On the bright side, hopefully Germany will make a deep run this year. If Germany blows someone, anyone, away in any of the knock-out rounds (like they did against Brazil 4 years ago -- that was probably the funniest sporting event I've ever seen) I won't even care if they don't win the whole thing. Germany winning the whole thing again would be great, though.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Has anyone had any Nocturne sightings?
« on: November 20, 2017, 10:59:44 pm »
My current plan is to wait until black Friday (which is this Friday) before I buy Nocturne to see if Amazon/Rio Grande Games or Cool Stuff Inc.'ll have it on sale. I know it's out and prime eligible on Amazon (at least it was last time I checked this evening) but CS Inc was still showing it as a pre-order option.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but Shanty Town + Big Money is a cute little engine
EDIT: When there's no better alternative available

Dominion General Discussion / CouncilRoom.com?
« on: November 18, 2017, 07:15:12 pm »
I know that Councilroom.com was generally just a collection of statistics from the old Isotropic version of online Dominion, but are there any plans to revamp Councilroom.com so it includes the same sort of statistics for dominion.games or is there another place online with more current statistics about online usage rates of cards, best/worst opeinings, etc.?

Dominion: Nocturne Previews / Re: Dominion: Nocturne Text Spoiler
« on: November 16, 2017, 09:23:07 am »
I must say that after playing one game with it (bad sample size, I know :P), I really, really like Den of Sin. Also, the Cursed Village seems to be worth the hex you get when you gain it, and in my opinion Cursed Village is probably one of the better villages in the game, second only to Fishing Village probably.

EDIT: I really like Cemetery, too.

I'm not sure if this has already been addressed, but does anyone know if we'll see any new Events in Nocturne? Because there weren't any in the previews and while I would be fine without new Events because there's so much more other stuff that's being added to the game, it would be nice to know for sure if there are going to be any as Events are one of my favorite parts of this game.

Dominion Articles / Re: Etiquette in Dominion Online
« on: November 01, 2017, 06:44:19 pm »
I typically say gg whether I win or lose.

Same. I started saying it because I thought that it was always the polite thing to do, as in "show you're not a sore loser by saying gg", or say gg when you win just to show your opponent that you're trying to be a good sport about it and not rub it in that you won 85 to 30 or something like that. I mean, which is better: saying "hahaha you suck! Look at me I won by 55 points!" or just saying "Good game!"?

As an aside, in principle I do agree with that running up the score as high as you can just to run up the score as high as you can is a jerkish thing to do, but I do have two exceptions to that rule:
1. Games with Kingdoms that warrant the building of a well-oiled Goons Engine, these games can also (but don't have to) involve Dominate. I mean, in these types of scenarios, when one player gets going, it's almost impossible for that player not to run up the score, as far as I know.
2. Games with my Brother  (he generally runs up the score on me when he can, especially if we're playing online, so it's only fair for me to do it back to him when I can, although these days one of us usually just resigns when it's clear that the other one has pulled together a game-winning engine :P)
Note: Exception 2 usually happens in Goons games, with Dominate (but not always with Dominate)

EDITS: Additional wording and phrasing added in for additional clarification

General Discussion / Any Sports Fans Around Here?
« on: October 29, 2017, 10:53:20 am »
Any other big sports fans here?
If so, what's the best sporting event you've ever attended or watched, and how is your team doing currently, and what is the funniest sporting event you've attended or watched?

I'd say my favorite sports to watch are Gridiron Football (American-style, although Canadian-style is interesting, too), World Cup Soccer (Still pretty sad about 'Murica not qualifying for the World Cup, but at least Germany made it, so that's good. Hopefully die Mannschaft can win the whole thing again) and Basketball. Never really played sports much as I was never the most athletic of people.

The best sporting event I've ever attended was the unranked Iowa State Cyclones upsetting No.2 in the nation Oklahoma State Cowboys in 2011 (am a lifelong Iowa State fan). The Iowa State football team is actually good this year. They're 6-2 coming this season (6 wins, 2 losses) off a 14-7 win over the TCU Horned Frogs. Up to this season, Iowa State was something like 1-56-2 (their 1 win being against top 5 teams being against Oklahoma State in 2011) against top 5 nationally ranked teams. As of yesterday evening (10/28), they are 3-56-2, the other win against a top 5 team being a road win against the Oklahoma Sooners (Iowa State hasn't beaten Oklahoma in football since like 1990).

The funniest sporting event I've ever watched was Germany's 7-1 thrashing of Brazil in Brazil during the 2014 World Cup semifinal.

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Banning Cards?
« on: October 28, 2017, 09:43:42 am »
Is there anyway to ban particular cards/events/landmarks you don't really want to play with?

Also, I'm sure this has been touched on, but what's with Stash not being implemented?

Dominion Articles / Re: Number of Unique Kingdoms Currently Playable?
« on: October 28, 2017, 09:36:11 am »
Only counting the variety via Kingdom cards (i.e. ignoring Young Witch, Events, Landmarks and all the new stuff from Nocturne) it is 289 choose 10 or 956 quadrillion (9.56 x 10^17) different Kingdoms.
In my opinion this is just a number games though that doesn't capture the variety of Dominion. The base game already had more than 3 million possible Kingdoms yet a lot of these Kingdoms would feel and play identically.

Thar's a good point.  It'd be interesting to know how long it'd take to play all those Kingdoms at 30 minutes per game. I tried to do the math, but I think I might've done it wrong (math has never been one of my strong points :P)

Dominion Articles / Number of Unique Kingdoms Currently Playable?
« on: October 27, 2017, 10:13:46 pm »
Does anyone know what the total number of unique kingdoms playable in Dominion is now with the Nocturne expansion? I know that it was extremely high, but that number that I saw was as of when Dark Ages was the most recently released expansion so that number is probably old (I don’t remember the what the number was, though)

EDIT: Should this go into General Discussion, instead of Dominion Articles? I was on a mobile device (iPad) and didn’t realize I’d posted this post in this sub forum until after I’d posted it, so sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.

Not sure if this has already been touched on, but how do cards like Trader and Watchtower function with the Hexes (and Boons) that gain you cards?
If I was to gain a Copper from a Hex could I reveal my Watchtower to trash [the gained Copper] or would that not work since Hexes (and Boons) aren’t  cards in the normal sense?
Love the sneak peeks by the way.

48
I really, really like Devil’s Workshop/Imp
Ghost Town can be pretty good, too.

49
I tested my cards using a software until I was convinced they were good enough to actually print. I still had to change a few of them after that, but it's far less bad than if I had gone through all the iterations on actual paper. Obviously the software isn't nearly as fun to play as real life or the official Dominion implementation.

How complicated was it to make a software that would test your cards?

50
What if you're a pleb like me and don't have any sleeves for your cards?
I've wondered about fan expansions and even cards I've tried to make myself, but I've always run into the same sort of integration problems as the original poster.
