Innovation General Discussion / Re: Cities! :O

Carl and I chatted this morning, and we're substantially altering the way things work with Cities.  We'll hopefully have it implemented on  Isotropic too :)

Thanks for all this feedback -- am reading it and compiling what everyone thinks.

Doug has implemented the next expansion, Innovation: No Place Like Home on Isotropic, for beta testing.

I am in the midst of moving my apartment, so I will and have been scarce in August, but I'll try and pop on there for some games at times :)

4
It shall be two player games of base, and it's Saturday at 1PM.

5
We are doing an Innovation tournament at GenCon, and there's one at the WBC as well.

Because they are bad.
Because they find it humorous that it is equivalent to their standard draw action at the moment, so they activate it

Writing is not equivalent to your standard draw action if you are sharing it.  I will often activate writing to get two cards and toss my opponent one, especially at an age break!  (Similar to Oars)

If you want in on the Inno Exp 3 beta (and other Asmadi Games betas, like Carl's upcoming top secret new game that might be in space) sign up here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1CChOaYCFhZaZgGyLmFhoOWjE1Zi3iSQtsYfHXSEdT-U/viewform

Funny story -- we actually tried a scale like that very briefly.  It was not good!

For the purposes of Innovation, max({}) = 0.  :P

Yes, that will affect balance.  Not earth-shatteringly, but still.

How about SplayRight.com?

Did you hear that from theory?  It's actually what we sort of settled on about a month ago, in person.

Nope, great minds think alike I guess!

I was just pondering through all the different Innovation-related names we could use for a stats site, and no individual techs really jumped out (that weren't already registered).

Yes, I run Asmadi Games, and helped Carl develop Innovation into the awesomeness that it became.

I am hugely in favor of this implementation's existence.  It's great to be able to play the game cleanly and quickly online!

Iello I believe plans to release a digital version at some point, but they're in Europe so I'd like to think this version will be unaffected.

Doug approached me, although I secretly had a crush on Isotropic Dominion for a long time.

Third grade style <3!

There isn't any one benchmark for how well you're doing. Here are a few questions you can ask yourself during play.  The more that're true, the better!

Do you have more cards in play than your opponent?
Are you at a higher tech level?
Did you claim the early achievements? (1/2/3)
Do you have a good score pile?
Do you have colors splayed?  More than your opponent?
Are you leading in at least half the icon types?

King's Court

Oh look, King's Court is broken here, too :P

Iello produces an english version for the UK/Australia.

Unfortunately, when Carl and I did contracts and things, we did them by region and not by language, so there are two different english versions of Innovation.  The Asmadi version is what is implemented on Isotropic.  Both are functionally identical in terms of gameplay.

For a reason unknown to me though, Iello decided to rename pretty much everything in the game mechanically for their english version.  All future editions and expansions in the US will use the original names for things, as I really don't like the direction they went with the wording or art.  These are aesthetic preferences though, and I can understand some folks prefer their presentation.

Figures is unfortunately highly unlikely to be implemented on Iso.  This has nothing to do with the desire to do so, and everything to do with the fact that it'd be an absolute nightmare to code.  Every card interrupts basic game functionality in a different unique way, and we weren't exactly thinking of digital innovation when we designed it.  So...it'd be cool, but probably not anyplace on the radar.

Expansion #3, on the other hand, is much easier to implement, and likely will be.  Once it's at a stable beta state, it might be up for testing.  I don't want to put it up *too* early and create too much change work for dougz, though!

Dominion Isotropic / Re: The Future of Isotropic
« on: March 11, 2013, 05:47:29 pm »
I am confident that Iso has a future.  Goko, not so much.  But regardless, as I write in another thread, I am not about to call for a boycott of any company at all -- RGG, Goko, or otherwise.  I will continue to play Dominion tabletop, I will most likely purchase a copy of Innovation to play tabletop, and I will continue to patronize Iso in whatever manner I can.  Asmadi Games is sticking its neck out (thank you, Chris C.) in ways that Jay Tummelson used to, and I'd like to encourage this kind of innovation (pun intended).

RGG signing up with Goko was as much a risk as Asmadi allowing iso to implement Innovation. Probably more so.

Isotropic is a utilitarian implementation.  It's exactly the kind of implementation I want to play -- I'd secretly wished for approximately ever that someone would implement Innovation at the same level of usable quality that Iso Dominion had been made with.  I can safely say that I'll never oppose the existence of Isotropic.  It's already translated to sales!  Whether Iello doesin the future though, is not in my hands.  I see absolutely no reason that a flashy iPad or PC version of Innovation can't co-exist with this version.  If your flashy for-pay version isn't substantially cooler than what we've got here, its probably not worth selling

I'm just thrilled that hundreds of games of Innovation are going on online every day.

Innovation General Discussion / Thanks everyone for playing!

I think it's stupidly awesome that we're into the tens of thousands of games played of Innovation online, and hundreds per day.  We're even considering beta testing the next expansion on Iso once the rules are stable enough!

And only a couple people have been rude so far...never thought I'd be sworn at for beating someone at Inno :P

I find it no worse than Dominion's rule stipulating that you may not look through your own discard pile.  Which dougz faithfully implemented.  Perhaps he has a different attitude towards innovation, or he didn't know about the rule, or he doesn't think those rules are as similar as I do.

Doug specifically asked about this, actually, when implementing the game.  I thought it'd be best for the online implementation to be able to see everything.

It was a rule included to prevent excessive slowdown in play -- it's one that in tournament play can be ignored, and certainly in online play where technology makes things faster!
