Well, Watchtower should be noted to give protection from handsize reducing attacks, even potentially improving your hand quality.

qdread vs. antony
Tie 2-2

All the games, with the possible exception of the last, were fairly close, instructive, and fun!

Round 1, Base (http://innovation.isotropic.org/gamelog/201411/30/game-20141130-155330-abac783e.html): Antony won 6-5 by achievements. I built a giant board with Fermenting/Reformation but he scored most of the early achievements since I could not get any significant number of points together. At 5-5, I was expecting to win the next turn with Empire, but somehow he got Empire on his final turn with a depleted board and only two splayed piles, by the surprise of splaying purple up via Mass Media to get three castles from Mysticism.

Round 2, Echoes (http://innovation.isotropic.org/gamelog/201411/30/game-20141130-161026-ffb74bda.html): Qdread won 7-5 by achievements. Antony teched up rapidly in the early game with Candles and Magnifying Glass, while I built up cards in hand and on the board with Flute. Luckily I was able to steal his tech and force him to meld over his Gunpowder using Perfume. I scored with Alchemy to pick up some achievements, then shared a lot of dogmas with him and built a giant blue echo stack which I used to tech up to 8 and win.

Round 3, E/F (http://innovation.isotropic.org/gamelog/201411/30/game-20141130-164417-d14ce0e8.html): Qdread won by score (Measurement). In the early game I shared dogmas like Perfume and Ice Skates to get figures and a large forecast. Antony used a War decree from Tigernmas to set me back but I already had a lot of cards from different ages so it did not hurt too badly. We both picked up standard achievements without fear of the "penalty." I was afraid Antony would go the distance with Almanac but he melded over it while I tried some shenanigans with Kepler to make large splayed piles. We both teched up to 9 and 10 with Slide Rule and Measurement so things were headed for a big finish. Even though Antony took away all the standard achievements with Laser, I was able to stay ahead in points and create a pile with 11 cards to win by Measurement.

Round 4, E/F/C (http://innovation.isotropic.org/gamelog/201411/30/game-20141130-170324-f99ac38b.html): Antony won 9-6 by achievements. Antony picked up a ton of age 1 achievements with Chopsticks, while I tried for the long game by repeatedly tucking 5 or 6 cards at a time with Toothbrush and splaying piles to try to draw good cities. Unfortunately I got too far behind in achievements and never got up to a high enough tech level to draw powerful enough figures and cities to do anything. It took a long time for him to close the game out (he did it finally by melding a city to automatically give him 2 achievements) but I was pretty far behind the whole time.

Great games!

Dominion Articles / Re: request: algorithm for rebuild/duke
« on: November 26, 2014, 08:22:49 pm »
I feel like the key difference is that in a typical Rebuild game, you have to stop building your deck (buying Rebuilds, Silvers and the like) sooner so that you can try to empty the Duchy pile when you get $5. Preferably you empty the Duchy pile while sticking the opponent with Estates in their deck. Since running out of $5 cards to Rebuild into is no longer an issue with Duke on the board, you can build longer, buy more money and Rebuilds, before making an assault on the Duchies/Dukes. Are there simulation results on this>

Dominion Articles / Re: Combo: Sage \ Talisman \ Gardens
« on: November 26, 2014, 08:18:58 pm »
Well I think the Talisman/Sage/Vineyard idea is tons better (if you ever get that 3-card combo)... Sage will skip the vineyard, find the potion, and Talisman will help accumulate a lot of cheap junk.

I would just count ties as... ties.  We can always come up with something else if we need a KO stage.
I personally dislike base but I know others feel similarly about efc so having all "historical" combinations was the best compromise I could come up with (playing extensions not in order never made much sense to me).

Sounds good to me. There will be no "weighting" of different game types, correct? A win is a win.

Yeah let's do it!
But wouldn't we need matches with odd numbers of games so that there is no chance of a tie? Or do you want to break ties using spread of achievements?

Innovation Game Reports / Turn 8 combo win
« on: October 08, 2014, 11:33:39 am »
http://innovation.isotropic.org/gamelog/201410/08/game-20141008-051840-232c805a.html

Even after the devastation wreaked by a Tigernmas War, one man emerged from the rubble, wearing a toga and holding . . . a clock!

That was the first time I was lucky enough to pull off that particular combo.

I finally reached my goal of getting high enough on the leaderboard (#21) that I could see my name on my small monitor display immediately upon loading the leaderboard, without having to scroll down! Stupid, I know, but I am extremely excited about it.

Due to reading this thread i started learning innovation

Props! What is your username on there?

On my feel - there is alwayes someone but only for base  :( Sadly, to play with exps I have to wait for several minutes

The thing I don't understand is the 4 or 5 very highly rated players that will only play with the base set. They are really good at evaluating what to do in the narrow range of situations that occur in the base game. I don't really see how that can be fun in the long term for them.

Dominion Articles / Re: The Perils of Slow Trashing
« on: September 23, 2014, 08:36:05 am »
I find this to be especially true if the power $5 is a card with massive drawing/cycling power like Governor. Unless you have a mass trasher like Chapel or Steward, it is usually not worth the time to trash before going for a card like that.

42
Yeah, it's pretty dismal sometimes to want to play a quick game and no one is there. I see that there is a French site as well, just from looking at it, it looks pretty active, and has both Base and Echoes implemented. Anyone know anything about it? polpoul.com

Innovation Articles / Re: How to get rid of your hand cards
« on: September 18, 2014, 02:28:59 pm »
Nice article. I wonder how many people still play with the original setup rules that came with the Echoes box, as we did the first few times. Not only tedious to set up, but turns the whole game into a crapshoot and renders this entire article irrelevant  :P

Now that's piggybacking at its finest!

Innovation Rules Questions / Re: Does Ximen Bao give you History?
« on: September 01, 2014, 09:01:58 am »
Yeah, it came up in a real-life game and we decided not to give the achievement because the History achievement says the four echoes must be in the same COLOR, but Ximen Bao says they count as part of the STACK, but not the color. But it is still somewhat ambiguous so I was curious if there was an official ruling on it.

Innovation Rules Questions / Does Ximen Bao give you History?
« on: August 27, 2014, 03:07:06 pm »
Hey - I was just curious about this, and I don't think I've seen it in a game on Isotropic. Does the figure Ximen Bao, whose Karma has all echo effects on your board count as part of a single color's stack, give you the History achievement if you have at least 4 echoes somewhere on your board?
thanks!
