Yes, but will it be properly programmed to not walk a red horse after you have fed a blue dog?

Call me daft, but I simply do not recognize this reference.

The best I can come up with using Google is that it's a Pokemon reference(?). If so, that would explain why this eludes me.
http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/716619/ironworks-and-trader

It's a (very) long rules debate where Donald X. waffles a little at first, and eventually comes to a ruling based on analogies involving blue dogs.

I don't think that would be a Big Money game.  Big Money is pretty awful against Cursing attacks, so if you tried to actually play Big Money you'd likely just lose.

Other Games / Re: Are any Dominion inspired games worth playing?
« on: December 28, 2011, 06:44:10 pm »
Having actually playtested that strategy in AFAoS now... man, no lie, the game is thoroughly broken once you learn it :-\ Desperately hoping for some kind of fix. Martin Wallace has at least acknowledged the issue at this point, so the designer is on the case I guess.
I derive this inexplicable and perverse joy from reading the BGG AFAoS forum.  I highly recommend it to anyone interested in online flame wars.

In other news, Martin Wallace and his playtesters must be really, really bad at Dominion.

I would imagine that it should be a Thief-like mechanic.

Help! / Re: How do you defend against this set?
« on: December 28, 2011, 11:15:12 am »
Walled Villages are pretty key with Torturer, since being the first to play multiple Torturers is so critical.  I'd have thought that the Fishing Village spam would have been able to overcome this, however.

Help! / Re: Loan vs Steward
« on: December 28, 2011, 10:04:51 am »
When you have no other terminal action, then Steward is not bad.  Loan is most helpful when you can't spare an Action to trash (e.g., opening Swindler/Loan).

Loan also gets weaker when you buy lots of treasures.  In this game, which seems to run on Labs but depend on Treasure for money, I'd probably have gone with the Steward.

We had a topic about all of this already.  Let's not complain too much about software that hasn't been released yet.  I think everyone, Donald included, wants a good app that implements rules correctly and such.  If it's bad, we'll complain then.

Hmm. I guess I still want to say this. I don't mind being broadcasted. Nevertheless, I feel WW should at least inform me he is doing this when we played, and he didn't. What do you guys think?
I think the best policy is, we'll post it online, and if anyone objects, we'll take it down, no questions asked.

3364
I felt this way at 1000 games, 2000 games, and 3000 games.  The only cure is to appreciate that it happens and accept the bad beats.  Dominion will never be duplicate bridge, and it becomes much more fun once you appreciate that.

I always defined Big Money the algorithm to be buy nothing but Treasure and Victory, and Big Money in spirit to be a deck that primarily derives its strength from Treasure instead of Actions.  Of course, that's subjective, but definitions always struggle with edge cases.

In your examples: HP/money is an engine, because its buying power comes from HP, not the Treasures; Mountebank/money is money, because its buying power doesn't come from the Mountebank.

When I was first getting started, the constant references to BM and BMU were pretty confusing.  You might want to specifically define Big Money Ultimate in your Big Money article - it tends to be referenced as a baseline more than BM itself.
I'm tempted to just create a Glossary page on the site and link to that.
Quote
My other comment about the BM article is that it goes to great lengths to use only base card sets, but includes a throw-away reference to Bridge in the description of the mega-turn.  Unfortunately, I don't know that there is a good core set analog.
My thinking exactly ... well you know some people are weird and start with Intrigue instead of base.

Added a sentence.  I think the simple mathematics of more Actions almost inherently pushes down Big Money, at least as it's defined by the "Dominion sucks" crowd.  I don't want the impression that "the way to beat Big Money is to spend more money on Dominion".

Yeah, I can't believe I didn't notice the FG's being 4VP.  I think I actually said out loud to rrenaud, "I'm going DoubleJack, no way those Fairgrounds are up to 4VP".

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Wedding Card
« on: December 27, 2011, 12:08:48 pm »
I'm not sure that trashing your wedding is all that thematic ...

How about:

Wedding
$8
Action

Each person may reveal a card from their hand.  You may gain any or all of the revealed cards into your hand; each person that you take a card from draws 2 cards.
---
When you buy this card, put a Wedding token in front of you.  If you have at least one Wedding token in front of you, +1 Action at the start of your turn.

Help! / Re: Ambassador v Jack
« on: December 27, 2011, 11:53:41 am »
Well, you know, he had some bad draws, and could have beaten me more badly.  We both had bad draws, TBH, so I don't think I lost just because of the turn disadvantage.

I skipped Hoard deliberately since I suspect (though maybe Geronimoo/rspeer can back this up) that Jack wants Gold over Hoard, especially if you're getting slammed with Ambassador.  And I wanted Warehouse badly, but never really had a spare buy for it.

Before I post this to the front page, I wanted to solicit some feedback.  These are currently WW's annotated videos of his match against allfail.

Now, I plan to record some videos of my own, and hopefully at higher resolution.  But I won't be able to until 2012, and I do want other skilled players to have videos on the channel as well.  Is there an easier way for me to collect everyone's videos than just having everyone email me video files for me to upload?
