Simulation / Re: Geronimoo's Dominion Simulator on Github

Also, I assume Geronimoo implemented a mostly random overhand shuffle, and that is a kindly but perhaps naive assumption to make of your opponents.

You should try to put at least something in the title -- it's hard to tell different videos apart just by number.

Remember that you can also rename your old videos.  I think the clearest way would be to number all your videos, in chronological order, like this:

001 - theory - Gardens
002 - Headso - DoubleJack v Vault
etc.

This discussion is interesting to me because I was wondering whether the $5's distinction I made on the blog between Attacks and Non-Attacks is meaningful any more.  (Yes, yes, I know, I haven't done the $4's yet.  That's coming up.)  Mountebank / Witch still dominate, and IGG can probably sneak in as a quasi-attack.  But Hunting Party and Wharf and etc. are so strong that I would probably rank them over Minion and Torturer and Rabble.  At the same time, you can't build a HP engine when Village/Torturer is on the table.  So is ranking them separately avoiding apples & oranges comparisons or just a copout?

If you draw 2 coppers and 4 curses you are clearly cheating. What's more, you're really bad at it.

Reminds me of my favorite cheating story.  At 2009 WBC, my then-girlfriend (now-wife) played a 4-player game of base Dominion with no trashing.

One of her opponents, in an attempt to get a tiny decktrimming advantage, secretly removed one of his Estates from his deck as the game started.

He ended up coming in second.

That's right, I keep forgetting about that!  We could link to it more, or also look into integrating it somehow ... though I don't know where it would go.

Maybe it's one of the kinds of Zeugma, though I know it better as the game show category "Before & After".

rrenaud and I (mostly I, I think he's close to done) are still finishing up the analysis of all the submitted sets.

Whatever time works for you two will probably work for one of us.  Given that I'm now in London and rrenaud is still in New York, I'm sure we can find a compatible time.

I approve of WW's idea of set discussion in the lobby.  Maybe this forum needs a chat room.

I do think WW and RJ should play a Bronze match.  It will affect seeding for the next DS year-end tournament.

Hmmm ... I had thought that I had sent Lionel a PM on the forum here, but I don't see it in my Sent Items.

If you read this Lionel, send me a PM so we can set up a time for our match. (I'll keep trying to send one, myself).
For whatever reason, by default PMs sent are not saved into the sent folder.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: Official(?) Dominion App Available on iTunes
« on: January 23, 2012, 06:30:27 pm »
Without DougZ, this site / community of people would not exist.  No one would be playing 6000+ games of Dominion and writing 10K+ word articles for it.  Nevertheless, the underlying game is still Dominion by Donald X.  It's not like it was an accident this game is so deep: trust me when I tell you that Donald is pretty good at this game.  Dougz probably deserves much more credit than he gets for popularizing the game, but van Cliburn is not Tchaikovsky.

What I think drives barsooma's ire, and sympathies thereto, is the threat of Isotropic being taken down for a for-pay product.  Which everyone is currently assuming will be bad, based on circumstantial evidence.  The dearth of official news only contributes to this: I think it's a wise policy, but in the absence of facts you get rumors and speculation, usually negative.

But that's a debate we've been over a thousand times.  Everyone has the incentives to see Isotropic2 succeed.  RGG caters more to the casual gamer, but surely they have some interest in replicating the competitive atmosphere of Isotropic and allowing for a site like this to prosper in a way that a BSW-esque site could not.  Or maybe not, and DominionStrategy goes down with Isotropic1.  The point is, if you assume that Isotropic2 is going to be fabulous, then most of these objections fade away.  And there's not enough reason yet to assume otherwise.

I don't really like the idea that expansions may be the answer to a BM being a dominant strategy a majority of the time (Seems kind of like a flaw in the original game design).  But with that said, which expansion do you think is best..I can likely return and exchange.
The dirty secret is that base Dominion does end up being various optimizations on BM.  Of course, you can keep optimizing until around 1000 games or so before Dominion becomes 'solved', but if there weren't any Dominion expansions this site would not exist.

That having been said, the expansions make Dominion exponentially more fun.  And I mean that literally: Dominion by itself is a decent game, but Dominion with expansions become a game that you can play over 5,000 times (as many on this forum can attest) without mastering.

I agree with buggibum.

Also, I have organized all of these into playlists on the DominionStrategy channel.  I think this is the best way to do it: individual channels, with DominionStrategy as a hub to organize them all.

They aren't public yet, because we haven't chosen the sets for the final yet.

As soon as we do, the rest of the sets will be published on this site.

Let's restart this conversation, with a particular focus on 3- and 4-player tournaments.  I like several of the ideas suggested so far, but would like to hear more on your thoughts on multiplayer tournaments.

Here's a nice little fix for the text problem. Someone on reddit mentioned that you can just zoom in on the text size on your browser before recording. I think that would work.
Wow, how did I not think of that.

One of these days we'll work out the theoretical underpinnings of Ambassador, which I'm convinced is a card that no one fully understands yet.

Nice video jonts26. This video-making trend basically wants to make me filming myself. But I wouldn't provide valuable information as you all are more experienced than me.
The perfect is the enemy of the good.  If the criteria for making a video is that there is no one better than you, then none of us would have ever made a video.

Send the videos to DominionStrategy@gmail.com if you want!  I figured it would be more work for you guys than for me, honestly.  It's not that much work for me.

This is what you get for trying to do forum moderation, you uncivilized barbarian of statistics.

There is a way, but it's a little complex.  You split, and then split again, and then use "merge topics" at the bottom of the screen.

I think we can just leave them merged for now, and then create new topics duplicating the content.
