Does that mean that the artists who drew the individual knights just chose arbitrary features, or did they have any information regarding the associated namesake?
Two people didn't want to be illustrated, and two couldn't really be illustrated. The other six submitted pictures of themselves. Of those, five were actually illustrated; you are not recognizing Sir Vander in the distance and under that helmet.

5652
Does this mean you have spare cards (balanced and tested) that never made it into any of the expansions at all?
Or would you have to make new ones up from scratch?
No, I would be making new ones. There are endless outtakes but one would hope I could do better.

5653
How about a promo set of Dominion to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Dominion :D
It could try to sum up Dominion in a card!

Castle Builder - Action, $6
You may play an Action card from your hand. You may play any number of Treasure cards from your hand. You may buy a card. Discard your hand. Draw until you have five cards in hand.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: Interesting article on Goko launch

"Dominion creator Donald X. Vaccarino has confirmed that Goko's licence to his game is a five-year exclusive deal. One of the most commonly-cited fears on Board Game Geek and other forums is that many or most of Goko's vast portfolio of licences might be similarly exclusive. Just as the smartphone and tablet explosion is speeding the move of board games into digital formats, many cherished brands might be tied to Goko for an uncertain length of time."
Yeah so this is acting like yesterday they contacted me and I said oh yes etc. No-one has done any such thing. In any case I wouldn't be speculating as to what their contract with Jay says, which I haven't seen - for all I know it could be shorter. What I do know is that their contract can't meaningfully extend past my contract with Jay, and that their contract postdates mine.

At this point whose permission would they need to introduce their own promo cards?  Jay's?  Donald's?  No one's?  That's my question, I guess.
I'm not interested in in-depth analysis of legalities. They aren't making any new cards unless I'm okay with it. I'm not. I might at some point agree to an online-only card that I designed, provided it was something that couldn't be done on a card irl.

How do you feel about comparisons between your company and Zynga in the mainstream press?

Example: http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2012-08/20/goko-launch-problems
I will have you know, we turned down the people who wanted to do everything with micropayments. You can ignore the hats and just buy expansions. They are in halves but the half size is still the size of the existing small expansions.

It's a long shot, but is there any possibility of playing with unofficial cards on Goko? For example, it would be great to play with the Mini-Set Design Contest cards. Or, to be able to implement fan cards to play with friends. This seems like it would be near impossible without an extensive interface for defining card rules, so I'm guessing the answer is no. But it would be so awesome.
They were interested, and at the moment I am the one shooting this down. I don't want to have to spend time testing fan cards, or to have fan cards I haven't tested.

The article also says "special individual cards exclusive to Goko are planned", which I believe DXV has elsewhere confirmed to be false.
There are zero exclusive cards planned at this time.

One tidbit I hadn't seen yet: DXV confirmed Goko has a 5-year exclusive contract to Dominion.
That doesn't sound like me. I like to be specific, and that would be some noticeable rounding there.

5660
Regarding a "Treasure Chest" expansion, I assume something like this is in the works for probably three years from now.
Nothing is in the works, and it may be that nothing ever happens. It is not exactly Jay's kind of thing. When someone first mentioned the idea (I think it was Anthony Rubbo), I thought, it would be two more cards for each large expansion, one for each small expansion.

5661
The knights are all people, the names anyway. I am just waiting for stores to get the expansion before posting the secret history. Such is the way of my people.

I have no plans to ever do more knights, as promos or otherwise. I guess if a "treasure chest" expansion ever happened, adding another knight would be an option there, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

Would you like to see the wording, I'm not sure I'm allowed to post it but I also don't see an NDA in the email
Not so much, I just don't want to misinform people.

5663
I totally didn't make it up.  I read and watched my press releases like a good boy.  Can't believe you didn't trust me!
Man, I said I needed a citation. No-one said you hadn't successfully passed along a false number without mangling it.

5664
The number comes from Goko themselves:
I will let them know of this error!

Okay, I'm confused now. Does that mean the Base Set card only unlocks one art of your choosing. lol Getting one card from a set sounds really silly, but this is Goko we are speaking of, so...
Currently, people at large do not know what the card gets you.

Weird. Reasonable enough, but what if somebody uses promo cards to get just KC, Goons, Masquerade, and then plays with just those and base? :P

It wasn't worded very clearly, but I THINK you only get a promo card from the set associated perhaps?
Well I haven't seen this wording you speak of, but at this point I have a reasonable guess as to what the card gets you, and I'm not going to make a guessing game out of it, but what you said didn't match what I'm expecting.

I must update this now, I have heard back, the redeem card entitles you to ONE CARD from one SET so you could per say use the dark ages card to get cultist if you didn't feel like buying that 1/3 of dark ages.
Heard back from who, specifically?

5669
Out of curiosity, is there an amount of money that could be raised and given to Jay that would convince him to let isotropic remain available?
You mean, raised and given to Goko? Besides whatever else, I don't imagine there is anything Jay could legally do.

Goko would not be losing money if Dark Ages was on Iso
Disagree!

Added Jedit's logic back in.
Fixed your quote hack! That "because" clause is changing zilch here.

Donald, is it possible you could add some insight into why you disagree? [Please don't use an analogy (for the sake of blue dogs everywhere).] On a slighlty related note, right now it seems like Goko is trying to suppress everyone and try to pressure them into buying an unpolished product, and honestly it's kind of a big turnoff. I feel as if more people would be excited about Dark Ages on Goko if we were given a taste of it on isotropic.
I can only spend so much of my life interacting with people who are unhappy about Goko. Complaining about previous times I posted doesn't help your case there. And you aren't asking for anything I haven't already said.

"In a new online adventure mode designed by Goko & Donald X, created to challenge you and improve your skills"

http://dominion.isotropic.org/

I demand a secret history of adventure mode!
They wanted campaigns. What could they do, besides having different sets of 10 cards? I said, you could vary starting decks. They said sweet.

They made campaigns. One day Wei-Hwa sent me some lists of sets of ten cards for the campaign levels. I complained that they introduced new cards too slowly - when I play a Prosperity campaign I want to see lots of Prosperity cards. Wei-Hwa said, I don't remember what he said. I said I could make the lists. I made the lists. So most of the sets-of-10 are mine, but not the main set ones, or some of the later ones in the first few expansions.

I still have to send them the Hinterlands lists. Other than that I am out of that picture.

Dark Ages is not a movie that you only want to see once in a while but has a period where you can't see it legally.  It's a game that people want to play repeatedly and indefinitely.
It's true that people tend to play a game more times than they watch a movie. And I would like to think that Dark Ages is all things to all people. But surely there is a game that you felt satisfied with buying and yet only played ten times total, if that. Some people will do nothing but play with Dark Ages for the rest of their lives, while others only have so many plays in them.

Goko would not be losing money if Dark Ages was on Iso
Disagree!

The idea that there is only a window where they can make peak profit from DA is a bad one, as it will encourage them to rush through the revision process and release another buggy product that will drive even more people away.
I don't know if you are picturing me standing outside their offices yelling "peak profit!" or what. Doug posted about this peak profit thing, not me. If you think they want another failed launch, I don't know what to tell you, that makes no sense. They should want it out ASAP for sure, and they can want it out ASAP and yet not blow it. inb4 "not those guys lol!"

I thought the adventure mode is advertised to be designed by Donald X.?
I'll guess that you mean you saw this in a post out of the corner of your eye, rather than in, say, advertising. I did not design adventure mode; I picked out most of the sets of 10 cards, without knowing where they would go from there.

Dominion: Dark Ages Previews / Re: Mercenary confusion
« on: August 18, 2012, 08:49:24 pm »
From the Mercenary FAQ in the rulebook:
Players responding to this attack with cards like Beggar must choose to do so before you decide whether or not to trash 2 cards from your hand

This seems a little backward to me, It seems that the attack (opponents discarding down to 3 cards) is dependent on whether you choose to trash two cards because it has that 'if you do' clause. If an opponent revealed their reaction card first and then you decided not to trash two cards, would they still get to take advantage of that reaction?
This is also how Minion and Pirate Ship work! The reactions just care about an attack card being played, not what it did.

So you have to pick a new password every time you play on the beta, or is the beta password just different than your normal password?
No; the issue is, that it isn't encrypted, so if you use wi-fi someone could see it.
