Buying a Duchy gets you 3 VP, but buying a Conquest and hitting a Duchy gets you 3 VP while lowering your opponent's score by 3 VP. And even on the shuffle where you play Conquest, you're really no worse off than if you'd bought the Duchy because unlike Feast, you get back the Action you used to play Conquest and even get the Duchy in hand right away anyway.

But you have to reshuffle, draw the card and play it before that can happen, and then you still need to hit the Duchy.

And, your opponent needs to have already bought a Duchy, and not have it in his hand when you play your Conquest...

I agree it might be too powerful, but I think it would be interesting to playtest to see if it would work at cost $5, and if not, try cost $6.

...maybe it could target Action cards specifically rather than targeting based on cost? That could get really good at zeroing in on targets within certain deck types...

Another possible way of making it more useful/powerful is to allow it to target a type, with something like this:

Targeted Conquest
Types: Action – Attack
Cost: $5
+1 Action. Trash this. Name a card type. Each other player reveals cards from his deck until revealing one of that type costing from $3 to $6. He trashes that card and discards the rest. Gain one of the trashed cards, putting it into your hand.

Thanks for the updates to your cards. It would be great if you could post an updated version of the enterprise_imgs.zip file with the hi-res versions.

A Mine/Madman doppelgatnger, eh?
2P Game night: Remodel Dame Anna

FTFY
This slight misspelling is even more thematic:

A Hermit/Madman doppelgaengen!

This is an interesting card with a great pic. Thanks for making it.

One typo to fix: "Setup: Make an Oprhans deck..." should be changed to "Orphans"

Would you be able to post afull-resolution jpg to make printed versions look good?

Why didn't he just play the BoMs as islands?

He was a bit too eager and PileDriver'ed the Islands before he knew it.

Same puzzle, but this time it is a 2 player game where...

1) Your opponent has already bought up all 10 Band of Misfits
2) He has set 8 of them aside with Islands
3) He has one of the remaining Band of Misfits in his hand of 5 cards
4) The last Band of Misfits is somewhere in his deck or discard (which total n cards)
5) He is trying to keep you from getting those Band of Misfits.

Now what is the maximum pure Victory card cost that you can upgrade a Spoils into?
What is the maximum value of n for which you can reliably do this?

Thanks for these updated cards! I'm about to make a second set of the entire expansion for a friend, so I plan to print these updated ones now. Would you be able to post the higher resolution images (as in the first post)? They look much nicer at full res when I print them.

Looks like I'm going to need more sleeves...

Additionally, if you place your battleship in Free Parking, you get $500.

If you've ever played a "money on Free Parking" Monopoly "house rule/variant" (either a flat amount or increasing as people pay fees to the bank) and felt guilty because it is not present in any official Monopoly rules...  Never fear, for C. B. Hewison developed a little known add-on to solve your problem... 78 years ago!

In 1936 Parker Brothers produced Stock Exchange: an official Monopoly add-on which provides stock certificates for 5 different stocks, additional Chance and Community Chest cards, and the Pièce de résistance, a fold-up card stock "Stock Exchange" space which slips over and replaces, yes, you guessed it, that Space on the board designated as "FREE PARKING"!

Just ran across a bunch more that might be of interest with this search of http://www.wikigallery.org/ (which is distinct from wikiart.org):

Over the years, I've gotten pretty good at searching for things on the internet. But you know what's f***ing impossible? Finding a painting OF an auction.

It helps to use specialized search engines on paintings websites, such as:

http://www.artrenewal.org/pages/sitesearch.php
http://en.gallerix.ru/roster/
http://www.wikiart.org/
http://www.painting-palace.com/
http://xaxor.com/oil-paintings
http://www.fineartlib.info/

Even this doesn't eliminate finding the word "auction" that is around because some random painting is itself up for auction, but it works better than a straight Google search.

Here are a few auction images I found came across:

Studio Before the Auction by Rudolf Ritter von Alt

Bast auction on the tube in the XVII century by Apollinaris M. Vasnetsov

Great to see another expansion in the works. I don't have many comments on the specifics of the cards, but I like the themes (both mechanical and visual) and your chart that maps out the explored and unexplored space of conditionals. I also like your emphasis on cards with options, complexity and nuance.

I'll be printing these out and hope to playtest them with some friends this summer. I'll get back to you with feedback after that.

Lastfootnote,

Thanks for making Dominion:Enterprise available and continuing to improve it. I've printed out the PDF files and am in the process of printing/cutting/etc so that my gaming group can play it in its entirety.

To that end, would you be able to post the full-size images for (at least) General, Jubilee, Windfall and Investment so that I can print those out in the same quality as the PDF images? The images of those updated cards you posted here recently are only 348x537, which is noticeably lower quality when printed out compared to the ones in the PDFs.

So I printed the first 9 of this set out and we played a game tonight with Astrolabe, Canal, Barge, Landfall, and Harbinger (along with Shantytown, Sea Hag, Trade Route, Island, and Horse Traders.

Barge was a great opener for trashing, and Trade Route became useful with all the alt-VP cards once they were bought.

But the far and away most-overpowered-card-on-the-board was... Harbinger! One player got one early, followed by another 3 of them and a couple golds, in a deck trimmed by barge, and it was a runaway victory.

Harbinger is much better than Laboratory for the following reasons:

1) You generally choose between 3 cards and 2 cards, whichever is better for you, based on looking at the cards already in your hand (compared to Lab giving you just 2 cards, without a choice, sight unseen).
2) You can guarantee that you will get the "one card you need" from the next 5 cards, which is often crucial.
3) Since you draw a total of 5 cards, it helps with cycling which helps in building an engine.
4) Once you hit a "critical density" of Harbingers (~ one Harbinger in every 4 cards in your deck), you end up with starting hands of two Harbingers, where on the first Harbinger, you can just take the pile with more cards in it (guaranteeing you getting 3+ cards), followed by playing your other Harbinger, and they start feeling like always-activated Menageries.

At the end of the game, we unanimously agreed that Harbinger was an interesting card, but that it should cost 6.

Otherwise, the cards and the game were very interesting. Well done, card designers!

Just by an extra Dominion expansion that you already have and use those cards as "blanks" with sleeves. For example, I bought an extra Hinterlands a while back to qualify an order for free shipping. A little searching with boardgameprices.com and the # of cards per expansion should be enough to figure out which one gives you the least cost per card and give you enough cards for Dominion: Enterprise.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: A Kingdom for Beginners
« on: August 14, 2013, 12:15:43 am »
I've found that adding Council Room to a starting Kingdom to be helpful for beginners' games with 3 or 4 players, since it usually results in everyone getting lots of cards in their hands and being able to ramp up in power and do cool things fairly quickly. Here's a set that is close to what I've used for teaching with 4 players in the past:

Lighthouse ($2)
Courtyard ($2)
Steward ($3)
Warehouse ($3)
Thief ($4)
Worker's Village ($4)
Upgrade ($5)
Council Room ($5)
Festival ($5)
Nobles ($6)

Dominion: Guilds Previews / Re: First small Guilds Spoiler

Based on a bit of research into Medieval guilds, here are my guesses for Guilds card names (those already revealed in bold):
<Modified to bold Herald and add another possibility I had thought of for AD...>

BEguild ($4) --> AD = Advocate (or Adept)
CBguild ($5) --> BA = Baker
CVguild ($5) --> BU = Butcher
DNguild ($2) --> CM = Candlestick Maker
EPguild ($3) --> DO = Doctor
GPguild ($3) --> FO = Founder (or Foundry)
HVguild ($5) --> GU = Guild Hall
IFguild ($4) --> HE = Herald
NHguild ($5) --> MG = Merchant Guild (or Master Guildsman)
NJguild ($2) --> MI = Miller
TPguild ($5) --> SO = Sojourner renamed to Journeyman (?)
UWguild ($4) --> TV = Trading Village (or Tavern)
UYguild ($4) --> TX = Tax Collector

"Blue Harvest" also seems to be a nod to the during-production fake working title of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (also on Star Wars Wiki).

The point of Conference Room was to be a more scientific sounding version of Council Room. Ideally I would like a name like this which references both Council Room and Laboratory.

In that case, I'd suggest Colloquium - "a usually academic meeting at which specialists deliver addresses on a topic or on related topics and then answer questions relating to them" www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/colloquium

Would the creator of the Conference Room card consider a name change to a medieval equivalent?

If so, I'd suggest Chapter Room or Chapter House - "a building or room attached to a cathedral or collegiate church in which meetings are held. They can also be found in medieval monasteries." (Wikipedia) See also Chapter.

Regarding the Aqua Vitae image, while it is striking, I agree that the style is not consistent with the medieval feel of the rest of the images. I'll see if I can find any alternatives to propose.

Regarding Kirian's first image for Retort (http://hem.fyristorg.com/lbl/alchemy.jpg), using the reverse image search tool tineye.com, I found another version of the image at http://www.gettyimages.ca/detail/illustration/the-alchymist-1771-stock-graphic/73216883?Language=en-US which offered the following info:

The Alchymist by Joseph Wright of Derby (1771)
(His name could also be shortened to simply "Joseph Wright" if there's not enough space on the card.)

Since we don't include the painting titles on the card, the following is beside the point, but Wikipedia gives the following abbreviated titles: The Alchemist Discovering Phosphorus or The Alchemist in Search of the Philosophers Stone. The full title is a mouthful:
The Alchymist, In Search of the Philosopher’s Stone, Discovers Phosphorus, and prays for the successful Conclusion of his operation, as was the custom of the Ancient Chymical Astrologers
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:JosephWright-Alchemist.jpg)

I can probably find some time to make the other cards if someone provides a royalty free image...

Your wish is my command:

Retort - "In a chemistry laboratory, a retort is a glassware device used for distillation or dry distillation of substances. It consists of a spherical vessel with a long downward-pointing neck." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retort)

The Laboratory by Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1849)
Hi-res versions: http://www.wikipaintings.org/en/dante-gabriel-rossetti/the-laboratory-1849

(The image could be cropped in to just the retort bottle, or wider to include the chemists, with a little cloning/retouching in the upper left)
