Puzzles and Challenges / Re: Have a big turn
« on: January 23, 2016, 11:00:46 pm »
Anyone wants to try this? Some hints:

- Suppose you have 5 Processions (and some other cards) in hand. Start a Procession chain, and in this chain play a single Procession card more than once (so play it twice before you finish resolving the first Procession you play). Now do this with only 4 Processions in hand, and without TR, KC or similar. Now look whether you can scale this.
- Try to get some ideas from the BoM wiki page [link]

I thought Celestial Chamaeleon mode would be to do all of the above on turn 4.
I'm quite sure this is actually possible (the hard mode at least)

Puzzles and Challenges / Re: Have the most money on turn 1

I'm too lazy to figure out exactly how high I can go, but I can empty the supply on the first turn of player 5, so that should give you at least $500 (I don't have room for Coppersmith in the kingdom, but even a single Coppersmith from the BM deck which is played 3-7 times is worth a lot). I'll write up a solution later.

Question: Do you have answers to all of these? Not doubting that they are possible, just curious.
Yes. I have a 500MB text file with all the moves ;) (7MB when compressed)

Presumably at most two piles are empty prior to the turn too right?
Correct. But this is usually not a problem: just play some gainers from the BM deck at the start of your turn to gain the remaining cards you need.

Max black market size of 25?
Feel free to use as many cards to it as you want, since there is no rule in Dominion limiting this. I try to make the rules as flexible as possible for puzzles like these. In my solution I use less than 10 cards from the BM deck, though.

Puzzles and Challenges / Have a big turn
« on: January 16, 2016, 01:13:56 am »
Some new records now that we have the Adventures expansion.

  • During a single turn, embargo the curse pile 750 times.
  • Have 2500 buys at some moment in the action phase.
  • During a single turn, play 6000 actions.
  • [hard mode] do all above things in the same turn.
  • [Celestial Chameleon mode] Solve hard mode with each number in the items above multiplied by 1000. So embargo Curse 750k times, have 2.5 million buys and play 6 million actions in the same turn.

Remarks: Do this in a solo game. You can choose the kingdom and any number of events. You may take any number of turns as preparation, and you may assume perfect shuffle luck. Playing an action means resolving its when-play effects, so this is the relevant number for buying conspirators. For example, playing KC-KC-Bridge-Bridge-Bridge counts as playing 13 actions, and playing BoM-as-Bridge counts as playing 2 actions. Possession (and similar) turns count as separate turns.

Note: I require having the buys in the action phase, because in the buy phase you can get as much buys as you want. You can use Procession-Procession-Champion + Graverobber to get as much actions as you want, then play Diadem to get as much coins as you want, and then buy Travelling Fairs to get as much buys as you want.

Solo Challenges / Re: Solo game: Thrash your last card in turn three

Could you clarify whether the loopholes in your rules are intentional? So are we allowed to have set-aside cards (Summon, Prince, Haven), on other mats (Native village) or non-duration cards in play? Or should we really follow the thread title: trash all our cards?

Goko Dominion Online / Re: MAKiNG MORE FUN: Mod for Dominion Online 2.0
« on: January 13, 2016, 08:57:22 pm »
Two remarks about the overpay UI:

* The "Done overpaying" button has a bigger hitbox than the size of the button. So if you click just below the button, it will still recognize it as a click on the button. This makes it very easy to misclick this button when you want to drag the slider, since their hitboxes almost overlap (my game resolution is 1600x900, if that matters). Could you move the slider down a bit (or make the hitbox for "Done Overpaying" smaller)?
* There is a minor UI bug. The following steps reproduce it:
- play a kingdom with Stonemason a unique action card at some price. Say Ironmonger is the only card costing $4.
- Be in the buy phase with exactly $6 and 1 buy.
- Buy Stonemason, drag overpay slider to 4, and click overpay.
- You will now correctly gain 2 Ironmongers, but the "Overpay 1" and "Done Overpaying" buttons will stay on screen during your opponent's turn (the MMF overpay interface disappears).

Great!

Another autoplay suggestion: don't trash to opponent Bishop (default off).

I haven't played Dominion much lately, so I only installed this mod today. But I must say, it is amazing! Every individual feature of MMF is minor, but all those extra conveniences add up, and the resulting experience is much better.

I was a bit worried that autoplay would be confusing, and would do things I didn't want before I started using it. But the little button is very clear and autoplay (and multi-coin token payment) is very nice!

  • Auto-skip unnecessary cleanup decisions when the game is over.
I think it's not yet skipping the decision for Stash.

Rules Questions / Processing BoM-as-Embargo
« on: December 08, 2015, 02:03:11 am »
Suppose I play Procession on a Band of Misfits, emulating Embargo.
I play BoM-as-Embargo, execute its actions, trash BoM-as-Embargo, and the BoM reverts to being a BoM. For the second time I play BoM, I can choose a different action.
So far, all I've said follows the Band of Misfits wiki page. But what happens next?

(1) Suppose I choose Hamlet as my second action. I execute all its actions as normal. But for how long will the BoM be a hamlet? Will it revert to being a BoM the moment I choose Hamlet (since it's not in play?)? Until I resolve its play action? Or will it stay a Hamlet much longer (since it hasn't left play yet)?

(2) Suppose I choose Rats as my second action. After doing all the Rats-stuff, Procession commands me to trash BoM, which is already in the trash. Does this trigger the on-trash effect of Rats? (Does "trashing a card which already is in the trash" count as trashing a card?)

(3) If I choose Fortress as my second action, does the BoM end up in my hand after finishing the Procession action? (This is a separate question, because it requires moving cards, and I'm not sure how the lose-track rule applies here. If any card has a good reason to lose track of itself, it's a Fortress finding itself in the trash.)

How do you gain BOM6-10, Fortress, Dev1-3, HW1? Unless I'm missing something major, this solution completely falls apart.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Thanks for helping me win!
« on: October 06, 2015, 01:29:18 pm »
Congrats Aleimon on doing so well. Good to hear you had fun and I guess that's what its all about.
"Official NK Dominion" also sounds a bit strange to me. I know I wasn't there, SCSN wasn't there, apparently Davio wasn't and I assume florrat wasn't either.
4P, base only, and 1 game to determine who is "best" are all elements that made me not even want to go.

Anyway, tempting now to organize an "Even more official NK Dominion" that actually uses all sets, 2P games, and any number >1 games in the finals.

Since I currently live in the US (for a PhD), indeed, I wasn't there  :)

Feedback / Re: Correct Dutch translations for free
« on: May 25, 2015, 12:17:08 pm »
Very useful to know!

Is this a complete list, up to Guilds? I don't think so, because I just added a second mistake to Smuggler / Smokkelaar. The Dutch text incorrectly states you can gain a card which the player on your right bought, which is not always true, because of Trader or Possession.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: CARD OF THE WEEK #5: Steward
« on: April 22, 2015, 11:09:51 pm »
About opening 1 or 2 Stewards: As a general guideline I'd say that Steward/Steward is better than Steward/Silver most of the time. The most notable counterexample is if you'll be short on +actions later in the game. Whether Steward/Steward is better than Steward/X depends on the kingdom. I'd typically prefer a strong nonterminal card (such as Tournament or Ironmonger) over a second Steward.

Dominion: Adventures Previews / Re: edge-case this, please

Also, you might want to have all 5 in play to make sure your opponent can't get any. (If they're in your deck, they can still trash them and then get them from the trash).

Not if you have one in play, since then you're immune to attacks. Only if they possession-masq/amb you
You cannot Ambassador Champions. You cannot return a revealed Champion to a supply pile.

42
So how much pages of cards and card-like things do we now need on Goko for all the new stuff?

43
I think with 5/2, Baker in the Kingdom, I'd open Hireling. Invest in your future.
I think opening Hireling is pretty bad, actually. Not that it's bad for your deck, but most terminal cards will be able to improve your deck faster. For example, compare it with Smithy: Smithy gives you +3 Cards when you play it, Hireling gives those 3 cards 3 turns after you played it. 3 turns is a lot of time, by then you've probably played your Smithy already a second time. So Smithy gives you cards faster than Hireling. Sure, it costs some actions after the first time, but we're comparing a $4 and a $6 cost card.

From a different point of view: you also don't want to open Lab. Sure, Hireling is better than Lab, but also don't forget that Hireling does nothing right now, and it takes a while till Hireling has drawn more cards than playing a Lab every other turn.

EDIT: Ninja'd

Puzzles and Challenges / Re: Empty the Supply in Two Turns
« on: March 30, 2015, 03:45:41 pm »
It is actually possible to do this with just 3 players.

Here's most of the solution. I've written this up months ago, and I don't want to finish it now, but here's what I already had written up:

----------------------------
Kingdom: Stonemason (Sm), Black Market (Bm), Masquerade (Ma), Watchtower (Wt), Noble Brigand (Nb), Fortress (Fo), Procession (Pr), Catacombs (Ct), Haggler (Ha), Goons (Go), King's Court (Kc)
Ruins deck: 10 Ruined Market (Rm), 10 other ruins
Other Cards: Copper (C), Silver (S), Gold (G), Potion (P) Hovel (H), Necropolis (N), Overgrown Estate (O)
Black Market Deck: Young Witch, Baker, Hunting Grounds, Quarry, Expand, Bank, Council Room, Margrave, and more

P1 draws CCCCN
P2 draws CCCCC
P3 draws CCCCC

Turn 1
------
Player 1:
play 4C,
Buy Nb1, P2 reveals HC, P3 reveals HO, gains Copper
Clean-up: draw CCCOH

Player 2:
Play 5C
Buy Sm1, overpay 3, gain Ma1,Ma2
Clean-up: draw CNO,(reshuffle),Ma1,Ma2

Player 3:
Play 5C, spend 1 coin token
Buy Sm2, overpay 4, gain Pr1,Pr2
Clean-up: draw CCN,(reshuffle),Pr1,Pr2

Turn 2
------
Player 1:
play 3C
Buy Wt1
Clean-up: draw WtCCCC

Player 2:
Play N
Play Ma1, draw CC (P1 -> Wt1 -> P2 -> Ma2 -> P3 -> C -> P1. With this notation I mean: P1 passes Wt1, P2 passes Ma2 and P3 passes C), trash C
Play Wt1, draw 3C
Play 6C
Buy Pr3
Clean-up: draw Sm1,H,O, (reshuffle), Wt1, Pr3

Player 3:
Play Pr1-Pr2
- Play Ma2 twice, draw HO (P1 -> C -> P2 -> Wt1 -> P3 -> H -> P1), draw CC (P1 -> C -> P2 -> Pr3 -> P3 -> O -> P1), trash Ma2, gain Fo1, trash it with Watchtower, put it in hand
- Play Fo1 twice, draw CC, trash Fo1, put Fo1 in hand, gain Ca1, trash it with Watchtower, gain Pr4, put it on deck
- trash Pr2, gain Ca2, trash it with Watchtower, gain Pr5, put Pr5 on deck
Play Pr3-Fo1, draw Pr4,Pr5, trash Fo1, put Fo1 in hand, gain Ca3, trash it with Watchtower, gain Pr6, put it on deck
Play Pr4-Pr5
- Play Fo1 twice, draw Pr6Sm2, trash Fo1, put Fo1 in hand, gain Ca4, trash it with Watchtower, gain Pr7, put it on deck
- Play Pr6 twice:
  - Play Fo1 twice, draw Pr7C, trash Fo1, put Fo1 in hand, gain Ca5, trash it with Watchtower, gain Pr8, put it on deck
  - Play Pr7 twice:
    - Play Fo1 twice, draw Pr8C, trash Fo1, put Fo1 in hand, gain Ca6, trash it with Watchtower, gain Pr9, put it on deck
    - Play Pr8 twice:
      - Play Sm2 twice, trashing Fo1 twice, gain Wt2,Wt3,Bm1,Bm2, trash Sm2, gain Bm3
      - Play Fo1 twice, draw Pr9, (reshuffle), Bm1, trash Fo1, put Fo1 in hand, gain Ha1, put it on deck
      - trash Pr8, gain Ha2, put it on deck
    - trash Pr7, gain Ha3, put it on deck
  - trash Pr6, gain Ha4, put it on deck
- trash Pr5, gain Ca7, trash it with Watchtower, gain Pr10, put it on deck
Play Pr9-Fo1, draw Pr10,Ha4, trash Fo1, put Fo1 in hand, gain Ha5, put it on deck
Play Pr10-Fo1, draw Ha5,Ha3, trash Fo1, put Fo1 in hand, gain Ha6, put it on deck
Play Fo1, draw Ha6
Play N, Ha3-6
(have 26 actions, $8, 1 buy)

Play Bm1, play 7C, buy Hunting Grounds, gain Ha7-10, put all on deck
Play Wt1, draw Ha7-10,Hunting Grounds,Ha2
Play Hunting Grounds, draw Ha1, Bm2-3, Wt2
Play Ha1-2,Ha7-10
Play Bm2, buy Quarry, gain Bm4-8, Wt4-7, Ma3
Play Bm3, buy Expand, gain Go1-10
Play Wt2, draw Wt3, (reshuffle), draw Go1-5
Play Go1-5
Play Wt3, draw Go6-10 and Wt4
Play Go6-10 (all subsequent buys give 10 VP)
Play Wt4, draw Quarry, Wt5, Bm4-6, Ma3
Play Bm4, play Quarry, buy Fairgrounds, gain Kc1-8,Fo2-3, put Kc's on deck and trash Fo's, putting them in hand.
(have 1 action, $33 and 11 buys)

Play Fo2-3, draw Kc1-2.
Play Kc1-Kc2
- Play Bm5 thrice, buy Bank, Council Room, Margrave, gain Kc9-10,8 Golds,Fo4-10,Bm9-10,Wt8-10,Sm3-10, topdeck Bm's, Council Room, Margrave, trash Fortresses, putting them in hand
- Ma3 thrice, draw Margrave, Council Room, Bm9-10, Kc3-4, 3 arbitary cards are passed around 3 times (ending up with the same player)
- Play Kc3 thrice

Next you want to buy 15 more things with the last 5 King's Courted Black Markets and gain 150 cards from Hagglers, draw your deck using Scrying Pool, Counting House and other draw cards, and then you can easily empty the supply in your buy phase.

My guess is that the card you can play when it isn't your turn is the treasure village card. It could be something which gives you both actions and coins on your next turn.

46
A note in advance: I will be very inactive and unable to play the final match between Friday 6th and Friday 13th.
