Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Siege (action-attack-duration)
« on: February 21, 2013, 04:36:00 pm »
Each other player with at least 4 cards in hand discards a card.

At the start of your next turn: +1 Card
------
While this is in play, each player (including you) draws no more than 4 cards during his Clean-up phase.

That has the same problems, doesn't it? Someone, during their next clean-up phase, will be like "Now, when you played that, did I Moat it?"
I guess that depends how reactions work with the card text under the line. We haven't had one that affects other players yet.

True! But Moat says "you are unaffected by that Attack", so it seems to me that anything written on the Attack card can be blocked by it.
This one gets even weirder because of the lower half. You can't "Moat" your own hand because the "Attack" was not played by "another player." If the card says "Attack" on the bottom, it triggers all sorts of weird things. The only real way to do it is make the "Duration" part NOT affect the other players.

Does Goko have anything like Isotropic's ability to play random with specific cards or sets?

Doug wanted to be precise and so was. And hey for all he knew I would spring "when you would draw a card" on him someday.
Do you have a card (future, or former) that uses this mechanic?
I'm not all about letting one person spoil things for everyone, but I mean if people are just going to say "okay which tree do you want to be" or "what's in Guilds" then we're done here right? There have been a lot of questions, maybe people have run out of other things they want to know, it's all trees and spoilers now.
Perhaps I should have phrased the question better: Did you ever try to use this mechanic in playtesting? In that spirit, were there any basic mechanics you tried that really did not work at all?

Am I the only one who didn't realize that when I first saw the card?

Wrong. This is not the case when you've drawn your deck.

[/edgecase]
Actually, pedantic man to the rescue of the original post here. All he's saying is that it CAN do this in these situations, not that it always will, or that it must. Is this picking incredibly small nits? Yeah, but it's a nitpick of a nitpick.

Can guarantee?  "60% of the time, it works every time."
Two Mystics in hand? 60% of the time, draw a card every time.

Rules Questions / Re: Possession/Outpost

Maybe I just play with hyper-competitive people?
You're confusing hyper-competitive people with sore losers. Competitive people enjoy competition. Sore losers hate losing.
I wonder if I like Dominion so much because I'm not very competitive and don't mind losing?

I didn't think you could copyright posts on websites that you don't own? Doesn't everything posted on Facebook belong to Facebook?

Stuff like that. :)

Look, now I had to upload my old avatar too...

Why not start off with a couple of the "recommended sets of 10" and after a couple of those, let the person(s) who solved them submit new kingdoms.

Rules Questions / Re: Possession/Outpost
« on: February 15, 2013, 04:46:16 pm »
I tried Possession/Outpost once, playing an opponent's Outpost when I was possessing him. He took his Outpost turn with 3 starting cards (which turned out to be a half-decent turn), and then he took his actual turn... Clearly I don't know how this interaction works.

EDIT: I think you need to play Possession on your opponent twice, then have him play an Outpost on his second Possession turn in order for your opponent to take his regular turn with only 3 cards...
I don't think you can force your opponent to take only a single 3-card turn with Possession/Outpost. Both cards create an "extra" turn which implies that it is not the 5-card turn they are waiting for when you play the Possession/Outpost.

I would have said everything Kirian said, and then I noticed he was describing Ohio, which is where I've done all my schooling (and living, thus far)...

The school system I was in was K-6 for elementary, 7-9 jr high, 10-12 high school.

1 High School
3 Jr High Schools
9 Elementary Schools
(along with numerous private and Christian schools)

A deck full of Rats is pretty safe against Knights too.

Okay let's see. The table has Black Market and nine cards with Potion in the cost. The last one, Transmute, is in the Black Market deck, where my opponent gets it.

My opponent uses Ambassador to give me the Transmute. I Remodel it into Apothecary, then Procession the Apothecary into Alchemist. I use Thief to get his Philosopher's Stone, and Junk Dealer my Squire to get a Familiar. He passes me a Golem via Masquerade, then hits it with a Saboteur, so I take a Scrying Pool to replace it. Then he hits the Scrying Pool with Swindler and gives me a University. Luckily I hit his Possession with my Jester, taking a copy, then when I play Possession I use his turn to buy a Vineyard.
He can't give you the transmute with ambassador since it's not part of the supply :)

Uh, I think Donald X. knows his own ga-- wait...

Reveal a card from your hand. Return up to 2 copies of it from your hand to the Supply. Then each other player gains a copy of it.
Hmmm... Ambassador doesn't say it has to be part of the supply, only that the card is returned there. Does this mean Ambassador can make a "supply pile" for a card that was not originally in the supply? This just got weird...

Cursed Idol with Watchtower in hand allows you to gain and trash X curses for X money. You could theoretically empty the pile in one turn with just those two cards. Throw a couple +buy in there and game over.

If you Procession and Ironworks and gain a Procession and an Ironwork, top-decking with Watchtower.  When you trash the Ironworks and gain a Cultist using the Watchtower to trash it you would draw 3 cards and repeat for ever with an infinite supply.

And just for fun...
Instead of gaining the Cultist gain a Catacombs, reveal Watchtower and trash it, gaining a card less than it, Squire, reveal Watchtower trash it, gain an attack card, Cultist, trash it and draw 3 cards.

I don't know why you would want to do that. But you could.
That's starting to approach the empty supply in 4 turns thing... Where is that Fan-Made "VP counting trash cards" when you do something like this?

Are you sure about that? You are trashing Ironworks1 and Cultist1 at nearly the same time. (Procession trashing the first Ironworks, gaining the first Cultist, and trashing that to Watchtower for +3 cards)

Using the Nomad Camp/ Watchtower&Hamlet opening I can empty 3 piles and buy a single Province on Turn 4. I can't find a way to make it work on Turn 3 yet.

1. [Draw: CCCCE] Buy NomadCamp(4)
2. [Draw: NcCCCE] Play NomadCamp, Buy Watchtower(3), Hamlet(2)
3. [Draw: E…]
-shuffle-
3. [Draw: …HWtNcC] Play Hamlet, Draw: C, Discard CE, Play NomadCamp, Play Watchtower, Draw: CCCCC, Buy Procession(4), Buy Ironworks(4)
4. [Draw: EE…]
-shuffle-
4. [Draw: …IwWtPr] Play Procession, Play Ironworks1, Gain Procession, Reveal Watchtower, Topdeck Procession, Play Ironworks2, Gain Ironworks, Reveal Watchtower, Topdeck Ironworks, Trash Ironworks(Pr), Gain Cultist, Reveal Watchtower, Trash Cultist, Draw: IwPrX; (repeat Until Iw, Pr, Cu are empty, Buy VP)
