ZM24: Semi-Blitz Hangman Mafia - Round 2
This is a semi-blitz format, with 3-day Days and approximately 24-hour nights (depending on days and times).

This could easily be full blitz and played in an evening, or full-time with 7-day Days and 2-day Nights. It has 2 mafia and 6 town. That could change to 1 mafia and 4 town if we can't get 8 players. I'd give the single mafia some kind of buff.

2 Mafia Goons: Factional kill conditional on Hangman success
6 Vanilla Town

Discord: Mafia will have a shared channel; Town will have a shared channel for seeing their progress in guessing the word and private channels for other communications with the mod.

Guessing Letters
The mod will choose the word to be guessed. It could be a single word, a proper noun or a phrase (spaces and punctuation will be indicated). Mafia play as a team. Town play as individuals. There will be up to three chances during the day to pick letters. Mafia guess 3 letters in their Discord channel and town send in 2 letter choices each via their private Discord channels before a pre-set deadline. At the end of each guessing period, each player will be notified of their personal or team progress in finding the right letters.

Guessing Words
During the night, anyone may guess a word by their private (or mafia) Discord channel.  You can guess more than one word, but you will not receive any feedback about correctness until the night is over. For each incorrect townie guess, town gets a strike. If mafia guess incorrectly, then mafia get a strike. Town word guesses will be resolved in the order they come in - so four strikes could accumulate and lead to hanging even if a townie later sent in the right word. If both mafia and town guess the word correctly without getting hanged in the same night, they both win and get their respective rewards. If the word is not solved, then at the start of the next day Mafia will receive the results of their guesses in their shared Discord channel. Town will see their progress in their shared Discord channel.

When you guess a word, include your choices as if you were going to receive the reward - which power and what target, if applicable.

Rewards and Penalties:

If mafia guess the word correctly, they get a choice between a nightkill (for the same night; add your target to your guess) or a one-shot exileproof (starting the next day) for the mafia of their choice.

If town guess correctly, the first correct guesser gets a choice between a 1-shot exileproof (starting the following day) or a 1-shot doctor (starting the same night; add your target to your word guess if you want to use it right away).

Any time either team gets 4 strikes (collectively by faction), they have been hanged and cannot guess anymore for that word. Play continues until the other team guesses the word or is hanged. Then strikes are reset and another word is chosen by the mod.

Other than the mafia partners, who share all information related to their guesses, no one will know what the outcomes were for the other players.

YOU ARE ON THE HONOR SYSTEM NOT TO USE DICTIONARIES OR COMPUTER PROGRAMS!

Welcome to Hangman, [PlayerName]. You are a Vanilla Townie .
  • Your weapon is your vote, use it well.
  • During each of the designated daytime guessing periods, you may private message the mod the letter you want to guess for the Hangman word. At night you can make unlimited guesses of the word itself. If you are the first townie to guess the word correctly before town collectively gets 4 strikes, you get a choice between a 1-shot exileproof and a 1-shot doctor.
You win when all threats to the Town have been eliminated and there is at least one Town player alive.

Welcome to Hangman, [PlayerName]. You are a Mafia Goon, along with your Goon partner, [PlayerName].
  • You may talk with your partner here: [Discord link].
  • During the designated daytime guessing periods, you may post in the mafia Discord the 2 letters you and your partner want to guess for the Hangman word. At night you may post unlimited guesses for the word. Each incorrect guess earns your team one strike.  If the mafia guess the word correctly before getting 4 strikes, you can choose between a nightkill or a one-shot exile proof for the mafia player you choose. Submit your nk target or choice for exileproof ahead of time if you might not be around at start of day, just in case you guessed correctly.
You win when you control half the Town or nothing can prevent this from occurring.

Basic Mafia Ruleset
The Golden Rule:

Please remember that this is a game and your main objective is to have fun!  Be considerate of each other, don’t get personal, and enjoy the game.

Please read The Civility Pledge before signing up for any mafia game on this site.  If you have not /pledged there, you cannot play.

Excessive personal attacks or uncivil behavior may be dealt with by modifiers or modkills.

Game Summary:

Mafia is a social deduction game.  There is an "informed minority" (the mafia) and an "uninformed majority" (the town).  The mafia know who each other are, and are trying to be the only people left alive.  The town doesn't know who anybody else is, and are trying to find and exile all of the mafia.  The mafia, to make sure the town doesn't know who they are, must pretend to be town to win.  The mafia usually can kill at night, to help them in being the only ones left alive.

1. General Gameplay and Etiquette:

1. You may not quote private Moderator-supplied information (either real or fabricated) of any kind.  Paraphrasing (for role claims, etc.) is acceptable.
2. There is to be NO personal communication outside of the forum postings unless your role PM specifically allows it.  Mafia members may communicate at night and during the confirmation stage.
3. If you have a role with a Night action your choices are due to all mods by the posted deadline (generally 48 hours from Night start during the first few Nights; later Nights may have shorter deadlines).  If we do not receive your orders by the posted deadline you will forfeit your actions.  In case of multiple submissions, the last valid one before the deadline will be used.  If your Night action was mandatory, it will be decided randomly.
4. Roles with Night actions will not be able to submit an action on Night 0 (i.e. during the confirmation stage).
5. Any player with a Night action may instead submit a “No Action” PM to let the Mods know that you do not want to perform your expected action that Night phase.
6. As a general rule you should aim for one post every 24 hours, minimum, to keep the game moving.

2. Voting, Deadlines, and Player Death:

1. A simple majority (rounded up) of all living members must agree on one person for an exile to occur prior to deadline.
2. Once you have reached a simple majority no further unvoting will change someone’s fate.  Further votes will also be ignored.
3. Once a player is exiled the game enters twilight until the mods lock the thread; all players including the one who was exiled may continue to post during twilight.
4. The length of deadlines is up to the mod's discretion.  This game will have 3-day Days and 1-day nights.
5. If the deadline is hit and nobody has a majority of votes there will be a no-exile.
6. Please submit votes as: Vote: PlayerName.  Votes will NOT be counted if they are not bold or do not follow this syntax! Obvious abbreviations or nicknames will be counted so long as they are unambiguous.
7. Please submit vote revocations as either Unvote: PlayerName or Unvote. Unvotes are not necessary before changing votes.
8. You may Vote: No Exile - a simple majority of these vote types are required to send the game to Night phase without a exile.
9. Once you are killed (either via exile or night kill) you may no longer post in the game or in Discord. This means that you do not even get a “Bah” post. The dead in this game are silent.
10. If the thread is locked, you may not post.  Threads can be locked for various reasons, but no matter what the reason, you may not post.  The mod may forget to lock the thread, but if they say it is locked, it is still locked.
11. Do not edit or delete posts.  We don't want some players having more information than others.  If you want to clarify posts, feel free to double post. Mods will not edit posts for you.

3. Miscellaneous/Mechanics:

1. Bold, colored text is reserved for the Mods.  No invisible/small text is allowed, nor is cryptography.
2. If you have an issue/problem with the game, please PM the Mods privately.  Do not post issues/complaints in the game thread.
3. The Mods may make mistakes - please point out any mistakes gently.  Mistakes will be corrected where possible, but sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed.  These will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
4. Please bold all requests to the Mods so that they don’t get missed.
5. Prods of missing players will be issued upon request after 24 hours of no activity. A prodded player has 48 hours to respond or risks replacement.  A player who has been prodded 2 times is subject to replacement under rule 3.10 without further notice.
6. Please do not discuss ongoing games, it can unintentionally affect the other game.
7. Rule violations will be dealt with according to their severity, which may include modkill(s) if needed.
8. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period please post a notice to that effect in the thread.  Treat this game as a commitment.  Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging (haha!).
9. Players who discover they are too busy to play in a game or want to leave the game for civility issues are not allowed to officially /out in the thread.  A request to /out must only be done via a PM to the moderator.  Please do not use this as a manipulation technique.  (Note players may continue to threaten to /out or imply that they might as long as it does not include an official request).  Requests to /out are final once submitted. There will be no /outing and then /inning back into the game so make sure that when you /out you have thought it through and really want to do it. Players that can't be replaced will simply be mod-killed. This is a small game, and will be very adversely affected by the loss of even one player.  I expect everyone in it to play to the best of their ability and not quit out of "pique".  If real life makes it impossible for you to continue playing, please let me know right away so I can look for a replacement.
10. If a player wants to /out, they may be replaced by anyone on D1-N1.  On D2-N2, no one from the speccy may replace the player.  After this, a player who /outs may not be replaced.  It is up to the mod's discretion to replace players after N2 or resort to other solutions, including possible modkill.

Forum Games / Proposal to stop using "lynch"
« on: June 16, 2020, 03:44:34 pm »
Hi everyone.  In the light of current events, I am getting less and less comfortable with our using lynch in our games. I have always noticed feeling uncomfortable when I tell someone else about how mafia works. I didn't feel moved to say anything about it here  until now, though. The dark flavor, evoking an angry mob, is part of the game, but referencing past tragedies in a playful way feels wrong. Can we find something else? It can still be dark and anarchic. Maybe something closer to mafia flavor, like "off" or "eliminate"? Or evoke the French Revolution, which is hopefully no longer a sensitive issue for people, and say "behead"?

Forum Games / ZM22 - Red Alert Mafia (5 players - POLL to schedule)
« on: July 08, 2016, 07:54:20 pm »
Red Alert Mafia - adapted from Vengeful Mafia

1 Mafia 1 shot Roleblocker
1 Godfather 1 shot Roleblocker

3 Town Trackers

Mechanics

The game uses standard mafia rules, with the following exceptions and details:

- The mafia can't kill at all.
- If the godfather is lynched at any point, the town immediately wins. (This is the only special quality of the godfather.)
- If, on Day 1 only, one of the townies is lynched, this townie immediately makes a vengekill. (The town does not automatically win by having the godfather killed in this way.)
- Mafia wins when there are at least as many mafia as townies, and the town doesn't have a vengeance kill to use.

"No result" could mean that EITHER your target didn't target anyone OR that you were roleblocked.

Days are 30 minutes.  Players can majority vote to extend deadline by 15 minutes.
Night orders are due in 10 minutes, Day starts 5 minutes later or as soon as I get the results out.

Speed Dating Mafia

Pining with loneliness now that online Dominion is defunct, you decide to sign up for Speed Dating Mafia!  In this set-up, you are paired with another player and you must vote together.  Each day you have a new partner, and Daychat with that partner.  Starting Day 2 you have the option to request a specific partner.

-- Day 1 partnerships are random.

-- Only one member of a pair has to make a request for it to be honored.  If a player is involved in more than one request, resolution will be determined according to the other requests made.  After all requests are resolved, unpaired players will be given a partner at random from the pool of other unpaired players.

-- What are the chances of finding true love while speed dating?  Each pairing will have a chance of becoming lovers, meaning if one dies the other will suicide. The romance lasts until either is assigned a new partner.  The lovers will be informed of their relationship.

-- If there is an odd number of players, one person will not have a partner.  This person will be chosen at random before any other pairings are made. They will vote as normal.  No player will be the odd one out more than once unless everyone alive has already been single one time.

-- It is possible you could be re-paired with a partner if no other pairings would work.

-- Partnerships will be announced publicly at the beginning of each day.

-- You can continue to use your Daychat during the following Night.

-- When there are 4 or fewer players, players will vote independently but partners will still be assigned for daychat and lovers are still possible.

Setup:
12 players.
There will be 3 mafia - 2 goons and 1 roleblocker.  Mafia have daychat and a nightkill.
Town gets 1 doctor.
8 day Days, 2 day Nights.

All standard Mafia rules apply, with some differences in voting:

Voting:
-- Voting happens in thread as usual, but your vote won’t count unless your partner votes the same way.

-- If there is no majority at deadline, the person with the most votes is lynched.  If there is a tie, the person who got that many votes first is lynched. Clarification: The first tie-breaker will be the number of unofficial (grey) votes.  If tied players also tie for unofficial votes, then the one who reached and stayed at the tied vote first is lynched.  If Player X and Y both have three votes, having reached three votes earlier in game is not relevant if they later had fewer votes before returning to three.

Example:
vote count 1.3 Player X has 3 votes, Player Y has none
vote count 1.7 Player X has 1 vote, Player Y has 2 votes
vote count 1.9 Player X has 2 votes, Player Y has 3 votes
final vote count: Player X has 3 votes, Player Y has 3 votes.  Player Y is lynched.

-- If there are no valid votes at deadline, a random player is lynched.

-- No-lynch votes work the same way as votes on players.

Example of partnering decisions:
1.   Requests are sent by pm with upcoming Day number and desired partner in subject line ex: “Day 3, Insomniac.”
Requests:
A req D
B req C
C no request
D req C
E req G
F req E
G req E
H no request
I req G

2.   If odd number of players, randomly select odd person out (no repeats from previous days)
I is randomly selected.
3.   Identify clusters of requests involving the same people.
Cluster 1: A req D, B req C, C no request, D req C
Cluster 2: E req G, F req E, G req E

4.   Within each cluster, find the solution that maximizes the number of requests met, using randomness when necessary.
A is paired with D, B is paired with C, E is paired with G.
5.   Attempt to pair the remaining players, using randomness when needed.
F and H are without partners and are paired.
6.   Roll dice to see if any pairs are lovers.
Results: A-D, B-C, E-G, F-H, I.  B-C are lovers.

M71 -  Harry Potter Mafia II:  JK++

The Order of the Phoenix has rushed to the Department of Mysteries to rescue Harry and his friends from the Death Eaters.  Everyone reaches the amphitheater at the same time.  The Death Arch stands in the middle, a glittering glass vial hanging above it.  Dumbledore and Voldemort have each cast a spell intended to bring the prophecy to their side.  Now they are dueling for their lives in the entrance hall, while their supporters fight for the prophecy, which hangs, magically suspended, over the top of the arch.  But where are the Death Eaters?  They have taken polyjuice potion and are imitating members of the Order of the Phoenix whom they waylaid before they could get to the Ministry!  Or are they imitating the kids, having subdued them in the brain room or something? The adults stalk warily around the amphitheater, while the kids stand in just inside their circle, wands trained on each other, friends and comrades no longer able to trust each other.

(From here on, “Order of the Phoenix” includes both the adult members and the kids that haven’t been replaced by Death Eaters).

The Death Eaters think they have the upper hand because their Dark Lord has drawn an invisible line around the prophecy that delivers to the Dementers anyone who crosses it whose true self does not have a dark mark.  They have to mask their dismay, though, when
Specialis Revelio informs them that the Order of the Phoenix knows all about the trap (thank you, Snape) and Dumbledore has placed a protective spell on the prophecy so that anyone whose true self does have a dark mark cannot approach it without being sucked into the Arch.  Once all the Death Eaters are eliminated, Dumbledore’s spell will demolish Voldemort’s line.  Or, once the Order is reduced to few enough people, the Death Eaters can throw off their pretend identities and kill the Order, neutralizing the spell on the prophecy. But how to make the enemy cross the line?  The Order of the Phoenix know they may die, but they are brave and willing to sacrifice themselves to defeat Voldemort.  The Death Eaters are smug and arrogant, laughing inside at how easy it is to trick good people.

So a bizarre negotiation begins.  Everyone claims to be either a Hogwarts student or a member of the Order of the Phoenix.  The group will have to vote on who to force towards the prophecy.

Forum Games / Speed Dating Mafia - Saturday Aug. 2nd, ?? pm
« on: July 28, 2014, 09:06:51 pm »
Speed Dating Mafia (aka Drunk Mafia; inebriation optional)  Saturday August 2nd ?? pm

Even online Dominion gets old after 1000 games in 31 days!  You decide it’s time to meet some “real” people, so you sign up for Speed Dating Mafia!  In this set-up, you are paired with another player and you must vote together.  Each day you have a new partner, and Daychat with that partner.  Starting Day 3 you have the option to choose your partner.

-- Mafia cannot choose to be partners with each other.
-- Days 1 and 2 partnerships are random, except that no partnerships will be repeated.  Mafia may or may not be paired with each other during one of those days.
-- Only one member of a pair has to make a request for it to be honored, but if the person you request requested someone else, they get their choice first.
-- If two people each choose each other, they become Lovers.
-- If you don’t choose a partner or your choice is not available and you haven’t been requested as a partner you will be assigned one from other people in that situation.  Mafia could end up paired together as a result of neither requesting/getting or being requested as a partner.  If there is an odd number of players, one person will not have a partner.  They will vote as normal.  No player will be the odd one out more than once, and this rule takes precedence over partnership requests.
-- Partnerships will be announced publicly at the END of each day, but they aren’t secret.  You may choose to reveal your partner sooner if you wish, and voting patterns may reveal your partner to those observing closely.
-- You can continue to use previous daychats (including at night).

Voting:
-- Voting happens in thread as usual, but your vote won’t count unless your partner votes the same way.
-- If there is no majority at deadline, the person with the most votes is lynched.  If there is a tie, the person who got that many votes first is lynched.
-- If there are no votes at deadline, a random town player is lynched.

Setup: There will be 1 or 2 mafia (actual number announced at start of game).  Everyone else will be town.  Mafia doesn't have nightkill unless a lot of people sign up.  If there are 2 mafia, they will have daychat.

Power Roles: After signups, for every 5 people in the game, town and mafia each get one power role.  Possible town PRs: doctor, cop, tracker.  Possible mafia roles: roleblocker, godfather, ninja.  Or I may pick some standardized game from mafiascum.net, depending on how many people sign up.

45 minute days, 10 minute nights.  Days and nights can be lengthened/shortened during the course of the game at the mod’s discretion or at the request of Town.

Theory people: If you see a flaw in the plan, tell me now!

Start time: I have literally no obligations all day Saturday, so can be flexible in start time.  These games are usually in the evening, but if enough Europeans and others want to play, we could make it an afternoon game, Forum time.  I do have a plane to catch the next morning, though, so whenever it starts I won't want to go much past midnight.  So sign up for the times you can do, and we'll see how it sorts out.

Signups:  No limit.  I'd say minimum of 5 (it might not be balanced, but I'm ok with that if you are)

If Afternoon (starting ~3 pm Saturday)

Mafia Game Threads / RMM15: Innovation II - TOWN WINS!
« on: March 27, 2014, 02:06:42 pm »
INNOVATION 2

Police have road-blocked the town, so the dastardly mafia goons cannot escape. But this state of siege means that neither the detectives nor the mafia in the town can bring in supplies from outside except by carrier pigeon. So, each detective and each criminal only receives one item a night to help him or her either rid the town of criminals, or overpower the town, depending on their motivations. The mafia know the detectives have gone undercover, so they are pretending to be undercover police as well. When any of these twelve meet each other in the street, they greet each other pleasantly and compare "crime-fighting" notes. Sometimes it gets heated, but then they go to the local pub and have Cokes or beers together and chill out for awhile. They often find their comrades at the pub as well, and a surprising amount of investigation gets done just sitting together at the tables! At closing time, they all pretend to yawn and to want nothing more than sleep. But the mafia secretly convene in their subterranean hideaway under the police station to bake potatoes, and the detectives each go home alone to their houses to receive their items and plan their strategies. If only they knew who to trust!

12 players
3 mafia (1 Arsonist, 1 Backup Arsonist, 1 Goon), 9 detectives (1 IC, 8 VT)

At the END of each night, each player gets a random item (N0 TWO identical items are given to each player), evenly distributed among the 4 possible items (exact proportions will be announced if not symmetrical). At the START of each night, starting with N1, each player may send one item to one person. This phase ends after 24 hours. At any time during the rest of the night up until 2 hours before deadline, each player may build and use one or more powers according to the items they possess. Players may make up to as many powers in one night as their items will allow, or make none. Powers may be used immediately or saved for later (with the exceptions of Embezzler, which must be used in the first 24 hours of night, and passive powers, which go into effect immediately). All orders end 2 hours before deadline.

Each item alone gives a 1-shot relatively weak power. Combinations of two items give better powers, but two of an item always does nothing. 4 of a single item is the most powerful. Table of items and powers here

Mafia Nightkill: Hot Potato Bomb: Mafia choose a sender and a target within the first 6 hours of the night.  They can submit their order before day ends if they wish.  For the first 48 hours of the night, that target can choose a different target to send the bomb to, and so on. The first person to receive the bomb 2 times dies, unless bombproof. If no one receives the bomb 2 times, the last person holding the bomb can choose to let it explode or opt to have the recipient chosen randomly from among all the recipients that night. IF YOU HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED THE BOMB, IT IS IMPORTANT TO CHECK-IN 1 HOUR BEFORE DEADLINE IN CASE YOU ARE THE LAST PERSON HOLDING THE BOMB.  The mafia first sending the bomb may not target their initial target again in the same night, but their partners may. Only the first sending of the bomb is visible to investigations. The first order can be placed via the mafia QT.  All subsequent bomb orders, including mafia orders, should be by new PM’s (not replies) with your target in the subject line.

Mafia Arsonist: “Primes” one player a night, or chooses to blow up the primed players all at once. Cannot prime and blow up on the same night and can only ignite once. If the Backup Arsonist becomes the Arsonist, a second ignition of newly primed players is possible.

Dear Chief Detective [name here], You and your team are in hot pursuit of three wicked mafia goons who are hiding in plain sight in your town.  As chief detective you are universally trusted – an Innocent Child, so to speak.  You will receive items that will allow you to purchase powers to identify and stop these creepy people.  Here is the table of item combinations that give you powers.  These are your first two items:

item 1      item 2

You win when all threats to town have been eliminated.

MAFIA

GOON:

Quote
Dear [Mafioso [name here], the detectives in this town are all looking for you!  You and your partners [name one] and [name two] will receive items that will allow you to purchase powers to elude these pesky crimefighters, and you also have the handy Hot Potato Bomb!

Each night, one of you chooses a target for the hot potato bomb.  This order is placed via your QT, in bold.  The recipient then passes it on, etc.  If the initial sender receives the bomb, he or she may not send it back to the original target.  If a mafia partner receives the bomb, he or she may target the original target.  The first person to receive the bomb twice gets exploded.  This could be one of you or someone from town.  Only the initial sending of the bomb can be seen by investigations.  Also, all bomb sending orders after the first must be sent by PM in new messages with the target in the subject line.

You may speak to your mafia partners each night in your secret den: [mafia QT]

Here is the table of item combinations that give you powers.  These are your first two items:

item 1      item 2

You win when the number of mafia equals or exceeds the number of  detectives, or when nothing can stop that from happening.

ARSONIST:
Quote
Dear [Mafioso [name here], you are an Arsonist.  The detectives in this town are all looking for you!

As Arsonist, you may choose one player each night to “prime”.  They will not know they have been primed.  Once you have primed 1 or more players, you may choose to ignite instead.  This instantly kills all the primed players at once.  You may only ignite once.  Once you have done an ignition, you cannot prime any more players.

You may speak to your mafia partners each night in your secret den: [mafia QT]

Here is the table of item combinations that give you powers.  These are your first two items:

item 1      item 2

You win when the number of mafia equals or exceeds the number of  detectives, or when nothing can stop that from happening.

BACK-UP ARSONIST:
Quote
Dear [Mafioso [name here], you are the Back-up Arsonist.  The detectives in this town are all looking for you!

As Backup Arsonist, you become the Arsonist if the first Arsonist is killed.  The Arsonist may choose one player each night to “prime”.  They will not know they have been primed.  Once 1 or more players have been primed, the Arsonist may choose to ignite instead.  This instantly kills all the primed players at once.  The Arsonist may only ignite once.  As Back-up Arsonist, if there has already been an ignition at the time you become Arsonist, you can have a second ignition of players you have primed. If there has not already been an ignition, you can ignite all primed players, both those primed by your predecessor and those primed by you.

You may speak to your mafia partners each night in your secret den: [mafia QT]

Here is the table of item combinations that give you powers.  These are your first two items:

item 1      item 2

You win when the number of mafia equals or exceeds the number of  detectives, or when nothing can stop that from happening.

The town doesn't know who anybody else is, and are trying to find and lynch all of the mafia.

3. If you have a role with a Night action your choices are due to all mods by the posted deadlines (see Order Resolution list) (generally 48 hours from Night start during the first few Nights; later Nights may have shorter deadlines).  If we do not receive your PM by the posted deadline you will forfeit your actions.  In case of multiple submissions, the last valid one before the deadline will be used.  If your Night action was mandatory, it will be decided randomly.
4. Roles with Night actions will not be able to submit an action on Night 0 (i.e. during the confirmation stage). Items may be built and used on N0
5. Any player with a Night action may instead submit a “No Action” PM to let the Mods know that you do not want to perform your expected action that Night phase.

2. Voting, Deadlines, and Player Death:

1. A simple majority (rounded up) of all living members must agree on one person for a lynch to occur prior to deadline.
2. Once you have reached a simple majority no further unvoting will change someone’s fate.  Further votes will also be ignored.
3. Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until the mods lock the thread; all players including the one who was lynched may continue to post during twilight.
4. The length of deadlines is up to the mod's discretion.
5. What happens when the deadline is hit and nobody has a majority of votes is up to the mod's discretion.
8. You may Vote: No Lynch - a simple majority of these vote types are required to send the game to Night phase without a lynch.
9. Once you are killed (either via lynch or night kill) you may no longer post in the game or in Quicktopics. This means that you do not even get a “Bah” post. The dead in this game are silent.
10. If the thread is locked, you may not post.  Threads can be locked for various reasons, but no matter what the reason, you may not post.  The mod may forget or be unable to lock the thread, but if they say it is locked, it is still locked.

5. Prods of missing players will be issued upon request after 48 hours of no activity.  A prodded player has 48 hours to respond or risks replacement.  A player who has been prodded 2 times is subject to replacement under rule 3.10 without further notice.  As a general rule you should aim for one post every 24 hours, minimum, to keep the game moving.
Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.
9. Players who discover they are too busy to play in a game or want to leave the game for civility issues are not allowed to officially /out in the thread.  A request to /out must only be done via a PM to the moderator.  Please let us know as soon as you know so a replacement can be found.  Please do not use this as a manipulation technique.  /outing as an expression of "pique" is strongly discouraged.  It often can strongly affect the rest of the game for the remaining players. (Note players may continue to threaten to /out or imply that they might as long as it does not include an official request.)  Requests to /out are final once submitted accepted.  There will be no /outing and then /inning back into the game so make sure that when you /out you have thought it through and really want to do it. Players that can't be replaced will simply be mod-killed.

10. If a player wants needs to /out, they may be replaced by anyone on D1-N1.  On D2-N2, no one from the speccy may replace the player.  After this, a player who /outs the mod may decide not to replace the player.  It is up to the mod's discretion whether to modkill the player or do something else under these circumstances.

    Day starts:
    Day 1
    Day 2
    Day 3

Base Setup– see PM’s for powers

You are the incoming first year class at Hogwarts.  Each of you has a mentor helping to guide you through this difficult first year.  These mentors are veterans of the war against You-Know-Who.  Some of them are dead, but this is magic, so that's ok.  But some of the mentors are Death Eaters, and they have converted 3 of your class into Death Eaters as well.  It will be up to the rest of you to root out these evildoers.  And even though you are surrounded by highly skilled witches and wizards, you have to do this all on your own (and be sure to face lots of mortal danger so it's a good story).  But some of you have already learned some skills from your mentors that may come in handy...

    2 Death Eaters
    1 Death Eater Legilimens/Impedimenta (Rolecop/Roleblock)
    1 Ministry-Aligned Vote Fixer
    1 Ministry-Aligned Healer (Doctor)
    1 Ministry-Aligned Auror (Tracker/Watcher)
    6 Ministry-Aligned Witches/Wizards

Each player is also a Neighbor with two other people.

    Role PMs

Each player will have this section in their role PM:
    Quote
You are a member of [House name here].  You will be Neighbors with your fellow [House name]s,  [playername] and [playername] and will have night chat in the [House] Common Room.
    • Each night you and your housemates may choose one player who you think is scum.  This player gets a permanent vote from your House.  If any player has permanent votes from all the Houses except their own, they are lynched at the start of the next Day.  Your House has to reach a unanimous consensus to place a permanent vote.
    Quote
Welcome to Hogwarts, [PlayerName]. You are a Ministry-Aligned Witch/Wizard .  Your mentor is [flavor name here]
    • Your weapon is your vote, you have no night actions. (But keep your wand handy too, just not in your back pocket.)
You win when all threats to the Town have been eliminated and there is at least one Ministry player alive.
    Quote
Welcome to Hogwarts, [PlayerName]. You are a Ministry-Aligned Healer.  Your mentor is Madam Pomfrey
    • Once each night you can submit the name of a player.  That player will be protected from nightkills that night.
    • Your probability of success as healer depends the number of permanent House votes you have at the END of the night phase.  Each vote reduces your probability of success by 25%.
    • One night only you may choose a player to give an Invisibility Potion, a 1-shot means of escape from attack, rendering 1 killing spell ineffective (1-shot Bulletproof).  You can only give this potion to someone who has no permanent votes at the beginning of the night.
You win when all threats to the Town have been eliminated and there is at least one Ministry player alive.
    Quote
Welcome to Hogwarts, [PlayerName]. You are a Ministry-Aligned Auror/Combined Tracker-Watcher.  Your mentor is Alistair (Mad-Eye) Moody.
    • Each night you may submit the name of one player via PM.  At the end of the night you will be told the names of anyone that player targeted that night and anyone who targeted that player that night.
    • Because your mentor is a bit paranoid, you can be kind of jumpy too.  You are suspicious of everyone, and each night that you catch someone there will be one other person in your results list who doesn't belong there (randomly chosen from the other players still alive that night).  This person will always be in a list with at least one other person.  So if you get "targeted X" and "was targeted by noone" (besides you) as your true results, you also will receive "targeted Z" as a result.  You could not receive a random "targeted by" result because there are no true names on that list other than your own.
You win when all threats to the Town have been eliminated and there is at least one Ministry player alive.
    Quote
Welcome to Hogwarts, [PlayerName]. You are a 2-shot Vote Fixer .  Your mentor is Dolores Umbridge.  While you are associated with the Ministry, you like to be behind the scenes pulling the strings so things go the way you want them to.
    • During two different night phases you may submit the name of one player and one House via PM.  That player’s permanent vote by the House you specify will be erased.
    • This action can be tracked and watched, with the chosen player as your target.
You win when all threats to the Town have been eliminated and there is at least one Ministry player alive.
    Quote
Welcome to Hogwarts, [PlayerName]. You are a Death Eater, along with your Death Eater partners, [PlayerName] and [PlayerName].  Your mentor is [mentor name here]
    • Your safeclaim mentor is [safename here].
    • During each Night Phase you may talk with your partners here: [QuickTopic link].
    • Each night phase, you or one of your partners may perform the factional Avada Kadavra
You win when the Death Eaters control half the town and it is impossible for a Death Eater to be House-lynched, or if nothing can stop this from happening.
    Quote
Welcome to Hogwarts, [PlayerName]. You are a Death Eater Legilimens/Impedimenta, along with your Death Eater partners, [PlayerName] and [PlayerName].  Your mentor is Barty Crouch, Jr.
    • Your safeclaim mentor is [safename here].
    • During each Night Phase you may talk with your partners here: [QuickTopic link].
    • Each night phase, you or one of your partners may perform the factional Avada Kadavra
    • Each night phase you may choose to either investigate another player's role, or block another player's night actions.  You can submit your orders by PM or in the QT thread.
You win when the Death Eaters control half the town and it is impossible for a Death Eater to be House-lynched, or if nothing can stop this from happening.
Flavor names ARE relevant to roles and therefore alignment.

Mafia Ruleset (blatantly stolen from Axxle Jimmmmm)

    Game Rules:
    General Gameplay and Etiquette:
    1. You may not quote private Moderator-supplied information (either real or fabricated) of any kind. Paraphrasing (for role claims, etc.) is acceptable.
    2. There is to be NO personal communication outside of the forum postings unless your role PM specifically allows it. Mafia members All roles with a quicktopic may communicate at night.  House members may also talk in their Common Rooms during the confirmation stage. Death Eaters will not have access to their QT until N1.
    3. If you have a role with a Night action your choices are due to me by the posted deadline. If I do not receive your choice via PM by the posted deadline you will forfeit your actions. In case of multiple submissions, the last valid one before the deadline will be used.
    4. Roles with Night actions will not be able to submit an action on Night 0 (i.e. during the confirmation stage).
    5. Any player or house with a Night action may instead submit a “No Action” PM or bolded QT post to let the Mod know that you do not want to perform your expected action that Night phase.
    6. As a general rule you should aim for one post every 48 hours, minimum, to keep the game moving.

    Voting, Deadlines, and Player Death:
    1. A simple majority (rounded up) of all living members must agree on one person for a lynch to occur prior to deadline.
    2. Once you have reached a simple majority, no further unvoting will change someone’s fate. Further votes will also be ignored.
    3. Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until I post a death scene; all players including the one who was lynched may continue to post during twilight.
3a.  House lynches do not trigger the end of a day.
    4. Please submit votes as: Vote: PlayerName. Votes will NOT be counted if they are not bold! Obvious abbreviations or nicknames will be counted so long as they are unambiguous.
    5. Please submit vote revocations as either Unvote: PlayerName or Unvote. Unvotes are not necessary before changing votes.
    6. You may Vote: No Lynch - a simple majority of this vote type is required to send the game to Night phase without a lynch.
    7. In-House voting:  House votes must be agreed upon unanimously to become permanent.  The lynch is not instantaneous, however.  Players may change their minds until Day starts.  At the start of Day, any change ordered by the Fixer will be applied and then the House vote counts will be presented, and if applicable, lynched players will die and flip.
    8. This game will have 2 week a base of 7 day lynch deadlines and 48 72-hour night deadlines, extended at my discretion for weekends and holidays.  Unused Daytime real-time days can accumulate with a reasonable degree of approximation to be used in future Days.
    9. Once you are killed (either via lynch or night kill) you may no longer post. This means that you do not even get a “Bah” post. The dead in this game are silent.
    10. Do not edit or delete posts. We don't want some players having more information than others.  If you want to clarify posts, feel free to double post.

    Miscellaneous/Mechanics:
    1. Bold, blue text is reserved for the Mod. No invisible/small text is allowed, nor is cryptography.
    2. If you have an issue/problem with the game, please PM the Mod privately. Do not post issues/complaints in the game thread.
    3. The Mod may make mistakes - please point out any mistakes gently. Mistakes will be corrected where possible, but sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed. These will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
    4. Please bold all requests to the Mod so that they don’t get missed.
5.Prods of missing players will be issued upon request after 48 hours of no activity. A prodded player has 48 hours to respond or risks replacement. A player who has been prodded 3 times is subject to replacement without further notice.
    6. Rule violations will be dealt with according to their severity, up to and including a Modkill.
    7. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.
    8. No QT links are to be shared with any other player. So for example if a member of Ravenclaw is also a Death Eater, he or she is not allowed to share the Ravenclaw QT link with his or her Death Eater partner(s) from other houses. Real or fake quoting of players (not mods) from QTs is acceptable.

    The Golden Rule:
Please remember that this is a game and your main objective is to have fun! Be considerate of each other, don’t get personal, and enjoy the game.  If you haven’t already, check out and endorse the Civility Pledge.

    Roles

    The following roles are used:
    • 2 Bad Mothers -- 1 Wicked Witch, 1 Evil Stepmother
    • 3 Townies – Hansel, Gretel, Woodcutter (for flavor only, all townies will receive identical PMs)

    Rules

From the Wiki Vengeful game (flavor changed) http://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Vengeful_Mafia.  The game uses standard mafia rules, with the following exceptions and details:

    • The Bad Mothers can't kill. There is no Night phase.
    • If the Wicked Witch is lynched at any point, the town immediately wins.
    • If, on Day 1 only, one of the townies is lynched, this townie immediately gets to make a vigilante kill. (The town does not automatically win by having the Wicked Witch killed in this way.)
    • The Bad Mothers win if they control half of the town.

Added by me:  The rewards listed here will be adjusted depending on the number of people playing
    • Day 1 is 48 hours.  Days 2+ start with a base of 24 hours (see below).  Unused hours will be banked.
    • Each player will receive a “flavor phrase” as part of their PM.  Players are encouraged to use breadcrumbs to hint at their flavor phrases during Day 1.  During Day 1 twilight, if the Wicked Witch has not been lynched, each player (including the dead one(s)) can name one other player and their guess at that player’s flavor phrase.  You are not allowed to use the actual words in your flavor phrase in your posts
    • For each townie who either guesses correctly or is correctly guessed, 6 hours will be added to the Day 2 deadline.  If three or more townies either guess or are guessed correctly, one of you will be given two names, one of whom is a Bad Mother.  If any Bad Mother either guesses correctly or is correctly guessed there will be a night kill at the end of Day 2.  This nightkill will have a 5% chance of succeeding for each correct guess.  The number of correct guesses achieved by each side will be announced, but no other information.
    • If there are no correct guesses the first time around, or at players’ request in the case of only a few right answers, the contest will be held again during the next twilight with possible flavor phrases provided, and the rewards reduced to 3 hours, 3 names, and 2.5 percent chance of success per correct guess.
    • Flavor phrases do NOT reflect alignment.

    ZM16: Semi-Blitz Hangman Mafia

This is a semi-blitz format, with 5 day Days and guaranteed at least 24 hour nights (maybe longer, depending on days and times).

2 Mafia Goons with factional kill and day and night chat
    5 Town
1 jailkeeper (works for kills only, does not protect against Strongman kills)

The mod will choose the word to be guessed, and one letter from that word will be provided.  The two factions get up to three chances during the day to pick a letter.  Mafia guess their letters through the QT.  Town send in letter choices by PM before a pre-set deadline.  Any letters that are picked by two or more town are used as the town's guesses.  If the submitted letters are all different, one letter, the first one received, will be used.  Mafia will receive the results of their guesses in their QT.  Town will be bcc'd the results of their guesses. Incorrect guesses result in strikes.

During the night, anyone may guess one word, by PM.  For each townie that guesses incorrectly, town gets a strike.  If mafia guess incorrectly, then mafia get a strike.  Jailkept town cannot submit word guesses.  Word guesses will be resolved in the order they come in - so nine strikes could accumulate and lead to the penalty even if someone in that faction later sent in the right word.  If both mafia and town guess the word correctly in same night, they both win and get their respective rewards.

You are NOT allowed to coordinate specific letter or word guesses in thread.  Posts violating this rule will be deleted and the poster will no longer be allowed to place guesses.  However, town may discuss the timing of guesses or designate certain people to guess or not guess at each of the three daytime opportunities and at night.  PM me if you are unsure if what you want to post is legal.  Mafia may discuss in their QT, since they collectively only get one letter guess or one word guess each time.

    Rewards and Penalties:
If mafia guess the word correctly, one of them (random) gets a choice of a one time Lynchproof or a two-time Strongman.
If town guess correctly, the guesser can ask the alignment of one person.  Once the word has been guessed by either team, it is done.  Strikes will be reset and a new word will be started the next day.

Any time either team gets >9 strikes, they can no longer make guesses and there is a penalty. For town, a random member of their team is mod-killed.  For mafia, they lose that night's nightkill.  The other team gets to continue until they have guessed the word or lost.

THE USE OF DICTIONARIES OR COMPUTER PROGRAMS IS STRICTLY DISALLOWED.

Welcome to Hangman, [PlayerName]. You are a Vanilla Townie .
    • Your weapon is your vote, use it well.
    • During the designated guessing periods, you may PM the mod the letter you want to guess for the Hangman word.  Any letters submitted by two or more town will be used as guesses.  If no letter is submitted more than once, the first letter received will be used.  If a letter being used is not in the word, Town receives a strike.  If town gets more than 9 strikes, one member will be randomly chosen to be mod-killed.  If you are the first to guess the word correctly before getting more than 9 strikes, you can find out the alignment of one player of your choice at the end of the Day.
You win when all threats to the Town have been eliminated and there is at least one Town player alive.

The town doesn't know who anybody else is, and are trying to find and lynch all of the mafia.

This game will have 5 day Days and 1-2 day nights.
    5. What happens whenIf the deadline is hit and nobody has a majority of votes there will be a no-lynch is up to the mod's discretion.

    5. Prods of missing players will be issued upon request after 48 hours of no activity or upon request after 24 hours of no activity.

      Day starts:

You win when you control half the Town or nothing can prevent this from occurring.
You win when you control half the Town or nothing can prevent this from occurring.
