I've used a Mac at home and a PC at work for the past ~5 years, and while I love a lot of things about OSX, the Windows GUI is vastly superior to that of OSX. It's not even close in my book.

Which is funny because the Windows user interface is specifically designed to rely heavily on keyboard commands (where Windows is, naturally, also clearly superior).

Thirty seconds is extremely harsh. There should be enough time to return to your game after a computer crash.

If your opponent doesn't have an SSD, that's his fault.

Yeah, on the same note, I don't understand the people complaining about overheating when running Making Fun.

Get a new computer, guys.

I use a computer from 2014.

It's a Mac though.

- it's way too cheap (2P is about 4.5, is this card really worse than a 5? Is it really worse than familiar?);

2P is way more than 5.

Goons - it turns games into a boring slog.

Goons and Scrying Pool turn games into engines, not slogs. Duke is what's usually responsible for turning games into slogs.
You can't translate Potion to be worth about $1.5 just because it costs $4 (between Silver and Gold).

3 Coppers yield the same $ as Gold.
No amount of Coppers can make a Potion, so you might as well value it at infinity.

Why are you quoting my post? I didn't suggest that Potion should be worth about $1.5.

But we've all played the Possession game where we both buy Possession and you play it first. Mine is in my hand, and you of course don't play my copy.

I think I don't want to play your Possession regardless of whether or not Mine is in your hand.

My MF rating has gone from 4000 to 3500 in just two days, mostly due to the game constantly freezing mid-load. It's infuriating. I don't know where I'd be on the rating, but I can't get past 4000 because of these constant freezes, and it's been this way for months now. I probably shouldn't be caring about my rating as much as I do, but it ticks me off. It's a Mac computer only issue.

I've had the same problems, but mostly because I've been playing awfully lately.
My windows client freezes quite often, but I've found that if I wait about 30'' it sometimes recovers, and usually my opponent is still there. :)

I suspect it might be related to my graphic driver/board.

I have to win close to 80% of my matches because of the freezing, and I've been losing 50/50 the last couple of days due to careless play, (and playing Iguana Iguana in randoms... He was a god) and the freezing has also been hitting far more often than normal.

It's probably a graphics issue on your part, since it loads eventually. For me, it will never finish loading. It's a Unity bug, at least that's what the devs at MF say. Nothing they can do about it.

Well, eventually your rating will get low enough that you will win close to 80% of your matches.

AdamH, Awaclus, Eevee, Hydrad, iguanaiguana: This is your first tribal council, how are you guys feeling? Any concerns?

No idea. I guess it'll work out somehow.

Everyone: How strong are the tribal connections?  Are you guys voting along with your former tribe, or have those been cast off?

We've been trashing Hovels with each of our victories so far, it would be a huge waste to stop using that pun now.

Everyone: How much is the fact that whoever you vote out tonight is going to be on the jury?  How much is that factoring into your vote tonight?

Oh right, that's a thing too. I completely forgot about it and I've already made my decision, so not at all.

Thinking on it further, I think it's the mundanity of the event rather than the lack of a verb that makes me decide against it as a plausible interpretation.  I mean, "Oil Spill on BC Coast" would make sense as a headline to me.  But "People Near Phone" doesn't, even if you qualify it with why the people or the phone might be somewhat interesting.

But then...

who was phone?

Correct, just realized that original version is ultimate first player advantage as first player will gain entire supply on turn 1 and win (restricting gains to copper/curse/estate also leads to turn 1 win).

Actually it results in a turn 1 loss... you would gain 10 Curses and 8 Estates (or 20 Curses and 12 Estates); you would lose.

You have 3 Estates in your starting deck a lot of the time.

A lot of the time, your opponent does too.

Good point.

I thought the original sounded like someone deleted the drum and bass track

Here's a drum 'n' bass track!

That makes sense for a picture caption, sure, but not a headline.

Aren't a lot of headlines just picture captions anyway?

Not from what I've read, but maybe it's a regional thing?

Headlines with no verbs in them (even going to great lengths to omit any verbs that totally should be there) are extremely commonplace in Finland, especially on the more sensational releases. Here's an example, translated as faithfully as I possibly could, from Ilta-Sanomat: "Prince no last will - an enormous inheritance dispute in the offing, a terrifying disappointment to sister".

8790
Gaining a Curse would be a lot better. It's simpler, more flavorful, and usually does the exact same thing anyway.

At least it's slightly better than the original for sure, but it sounds pretty much the same except for the drums.

This was the most intuitive way to parse it to me:

Parents of (Boys Missing at Sea Battle) Over (iPhone Discovered on Boat)

I don't understand how this or the  "sea battle" interpretations make much sense.  Parsing it that way leaves the headline without a verb.  What is the meaning you guys are reading into that?

Edit: Should have read scott's more carefully since they add punctuation, but they all seem far more awkward constructions than the very first one which ashersky also highlighted.  I guess headlines are often awkward though.  Then again, I don't think they tend to omit important commas.

This is a "sea battle" interpretation. There are boys missing at sea battle. And then there's an iPhone discovered on boat. The article is (presumably a picture of) the parents of those boys (being) over that iPhone.

If you don't draw any Land in your opening hand, you can call a mulligan.

I could have used this in a recent game, I opened 5/2 on a board with no 2s and only Mine for a 5. Of course, as luck would have it my opponent also opened 5/2.

That would have been a great opportunity for the "if everyone takes a mulligan, everyone gets to draw up to 7" rule.

In the meantime, stuff I've been doing:
Remix of Armenia's Eurovision song

Is this available for streaming anywhere? That site has three buttons, and they all look a lot like the kind of buttons that I don't really want to click.

mine had a potion-cost.

Mine doesn't have a potion cost. It just trashes all the treasures you have in play when you buy it.

Dominion Articles / Re: Combos/Counters Article list
« on: April 26, 2016, 11:25:22 am »
Not sure if card+event combos belong here, but Vault+Expedition seems at least decent.  Played in the most boring way possible (Buy a Vault, then province on 8, expedition on anything between 3 and 7), I think it gets 4 provinces in around 12 or 13 turns.  Probably it's not actually good because it never builds any sort of economy and might be easy for opponents to counter (especially with Vault's drawback), but in the absence of anything good on the board maybe it's useful?

This gets wrecked by any sort of handsize attack, but it seems to work in the absence of that sort of thing.  4 Provinces in 12 turns, but I did get a 5/2 open.

How fast does it win?

Ancient Shade is really good. Your opponent has to deal with it somehow or he's going to suffer a lot, and most ways of dealing with a 4 mana 7/4 are slow or require you to spend more than 4 mana or more than one card. The worst that could happen is that he has a weapon, and then he still has to take that damage. I don't think I've ever lost a game because of the drawback — it just doesn't happen very often to begin with, and it's not that big of a deal even if it does happen unless you're already losing anyway.

8799
I dont get this card. I think I've only ever bought it in familiar slogs when I've hit $3P after curses ran out.

I personally buy it in unfamiliar slogs.

my latest productions have been quite well-received internationally and I have some experience in making music specifically for video games as well.

Links?  I mean, I'm interested for myself, not for SCSN and Stef.  But they might be interested too.

Both of the games that I've made music for are still works in progress (actually I'm not sure if either one is ever going to get finished; they're not commercial projects) so I can't link to those. The point of mentioning that wasn't so much "I've made all this amazing video game music" but mostly just that I am familiar with some of the concepts you have to take into account when making music for games. My band's latest album (which you can download for free) is linked in my signature. We're not super famous, but the few reviews we've gotten have been great (and totally unexpected), including a 9/10 from Folkmetalmagazine, a "This year's most distinctive a pioneer of experimental folk metal works" (Google translated from Chinese, also you have to scroll down a bit) from 西陆孤楼, and  this review from Frecuancias en el Espacio which doesn't have a rating or a convenient bottom line to quote, but it's pretty positive overall. It's also being played on Radio Pogo.

There's also my YouTube channel, which is also linked in my signature, where I make other genres of music in addition to a lot of metal as well, as a solo project.
