You can find my commentaries for the games I played against Geronimoo on my brand new YouTube channel here.

Thanks for the videos. Do you really think that commentary during playing is bad for your play? As SCSN and flies said, making a video with commentary makes you focus more.

We should have tried to form Czech team... I want to play too!
I don't know, but I'm not going to take the risk during this tournament.

Laboratory, which might sound surprising. At first I thought it was too highly priced for its benefit. I used to compare it to Village and Smithy. Village gives +1 Action more and +1 Card less compared to Lab. How could Lab cost $2 more than it? I thought 1 card couldn't make that much difference. Smithy is also cheaper than Lab and still draws more than Lab. When I actually tried buying Labs I finally understood its strength. Lab is chainable and reliable. Non-terminal draw is good.
When I was a newbie (still not familiar with all of the cards, and I didn't know that Lab existed), I played a game with Village and went full village idiot. That game made me think that it would be pretty cool if there was a card that had +2 cards, +1 action since I didn't get to use most of the actions I had and I wasn't drawing enough cards. I was surprised when I found out the card actually did exist, but I wasn't surprised when I noticed it was a $5 card.

My first game was a 2p game against my older sister at around 1am and I was extremely tired. Council Room was in it and it caused terminal collisions which made me irritated. That's all I can remember, I probably lost but I have no memory of that.

The Finnish national championships this year were played with the rule that both players could choose between a 3/4 and a 4/3 opening split (player 1 choosing first, then player 2). I liked the rule in a tournament setting.

Storehouse and Tactician are pretty crazy, too.

Rules wise, Tactician probably wouldn't work since you don't actually discard them and instead set them aside.  I'd assume that means you don't get the TAC cards next turn.

You discard 1 card, then reveal the reaction and set the rest aside.
You can't, because you have to reveal the reaction when the card is played.

Moat.
At first it seemed good, then it seemed awful. Finally you understand when you should take one and when you should not. And the answer is never.

FTFY
So you should never take one, and you should never not take one?

Comparing Workshop with Feast highlights the gap between what to expect from a $4 and $5 card.
I remember comparing them and concluding that Workshop is OP.

Hmm. What about my own hand, which is also reduced to 4 cards?
If it's a hand full of Minions, KCs and Bridges, it's fine if you play them first. If it's a hand full of Coppers and Estates, it's still fine, because your next hands are going to be pretty good after that one.

Either I have this weird virus that leaves the sound of other youtube videos alone and suddenly decides to add a bunch of noise and a screeching high-pitched sound to yours, or there's something wrong with your audio.
It's the sound of the cooling system of my computer.
it seems to track with the graphics.  but yeah, if you could find some way of fixing that (notch filter?) it'd be great cuz that's not a very pleasant sound.
That's surprising, it shouldn't have anything to do with the graphics since the audio was recorded afterwards.

Actually I did some research and it appears to be that in addition to my cooling system, my guitar amp was being recorded there and that's what caused the annoying sound. The cooling system alone is relatively pleasant and barely audible. Well, I guess I'm going to turn it off in the future then. Thanks for pointing this out.

This weekend we played two Swedish National Championships of a game called The Spoils. It's a TCG similar to Magic The Gathering, so the two championships were Limited (where you build a deck from a pool of random cards, then top 8 drafts for the playoffs) and Constructed. While I failed miserably at Constructed during the quarter finals, I managed to win the Limited Championship. Even though there were only 15 players, I feel like bragging about it a bit. ;)
There might have been only 15 players, but consider the following: the rest of Sweden was so scared of your skills that they didn't even bother showing up!

Congratulations.

Let's try this again with a slightly different format. This time, instead of just posting games I played with commentary, I'm going to make more strategy advice oriented videos.

I also stream on Twitch sometimes: http://www.twitch.tv/Awaclus_

Yeah. I currently play only with the base set on Goko, so mostly it's stuff like "what should I discard to militia" or something.
But I can totally see your point that with the more complicated cards from expansions, it would take more time.
I play most of my games in real life--but it's hard to always find people to play with, so then I play online.
I never got the chance to play on Isotropic, but did people try the same stuff on there?

Some people did, but Iso made it easier to deal with them (by having a shorter time out limit (and it asked if you wanted to kick them), by making a sound when you had to make a decision, and having the window say when you had to make a decision).  I remember just grabbing a book and reading it, then playing as soon as they were done.
Also, wasn't the time limit reduced every time if you were taking a lot of time each turn?

16641
I remember finding this site the first time, and the next game on Isotropic I just played Big Money, and won, with every Province I bought feeling like I had a super power. But it was clear that it wouldn't work much further up the leaderboard.

If 14-17 turns isn't long enough for you, add strong attacks to the game. If you're both playing Witch and Militia, the pace will slow down considerably; when you get some expansions, you'll see other attacks like Ambassador, Ghost Ship, Sea Hag and Knights, any of which can potentially double the length of a game.
Ghost Ship will square it!

So if your games lasted 10 minutes before, they'll now last 100 square minutes? What?
Yeah, that's right.

Welcome to the forums!

You also might want to check out some of the YouTube videos by members of this community in the Dominion on YouTube subforum. Seeing someone really experienced play and explain the reasoning behind their choices has been pretty awesome for me, it makes you take into account things that otherwise wouldn't have crossed your mind.

Cards permanently affecting other cards sounds like a really fun mechanic.  Not in Dominion, but I bet you could design a fun game around that idea.

I'm not quite sure whether you're genuine, in which case I agree (but don't see why it couldn't work in Dominion), or whether this is a joke referring to an existing game centered around this mechanic, in which case I'm curious about what game that is :)

It doesn't work in Dominion because the idea involves applying a permanent change to a single instance of a card. We can't just mark the pile or a placeholder because the other cards of that type need to not be affected, and we can't put a token or even a sticker on the affected card because we need to shuffle the cards and still distinguish them. About the only solution for a physical game requires making the cards unique. Even Magic, with all its complexity, has its cards completely wiped of all their state the moment they leave the play area.

However, it would be very easy in a computerized game.
You can use sleeves, and put a piece of paper inside the sleeve if the card is changed. The change in thickness is so incredibly small that you wouldn't be able to stack your deck.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: Most annoying card interface?
« on: November 16, 2013, 04:08:47 am »
After a recent, frustrating game, I contend that the objective answer is Scheme.  Even when you're fully aware, paying complete attention to the game and interface, clicking nothing by accident, Scheme can still get ya.

What's the problem with Scheme, you ask?  Well nothing, most of the time.

But the moment you lay out 20+ cards, Scheme becomes it own little minigame.  The play area doesn't ever categorize and stack identical cards like your hand does.  When you end your turn, you're stuck squinting at the left edge - most of which is the black/brown border - of every copy of every card you just played.  Sometimes you get lucky and the color schemes contrast starkly.  Other times that hunting grounds you desperately need ends up just being your forgotten 5-2 vagrant.
Now that you mention it, I've got to agree. You would think that you can just drag the cards and drop them back to the play area when you see you're dragging the wrong card, but you can't even do that.

If you are possessing the owner of this card, you must allow the owner to reveal this card.
If you reveal this card, for the remaining duration of the possession you may see look at any cards the player possessing you may look at, may make any decisions the player possessing you would otherwise make for you, and may gain any cards the possessing player would gain.

Don't you always see the cards that the possessing player sees?  Unless that player decides to randomly look at his hand, I suppose.
Technically he sees his hand the whole time. Unless you're playing on Goko.
