I read this thread many years ago and since doing so have viewed Magic Lamp games as essentially a race, with nothing else mattering. I think only one of those games has felt swingy in the other player's favor to me. Presumably I'm blind to two or three that were swingy in my favor. Still, I think all-in-all it's a less dumb card-shaped thing than some other ones.

Rules Questions / Voyage + Pirate

On a voyage turn, Sarah plays three coppers and buys a silver. She reveals Pirate from her hand. Can she play it?
Argument for Yes: Pirate says she can play Pirate from her hand right now, even though she normally couldn't.
Argument for No: Voyage says she can't play more than three cards from her hand this turn.

I would have guessed that "Yes" outweighs "No" based on other rules in the game, but the online implementation and the FAQ for Voyage on the Wiki say otherwise. Is there a general rule specific to resolving two cards that enable/disable certain actions?

wound up getting 5 provinces on turn 10, for the win, using a combo that's unlikely ever to come up again involving Guildmaster and Architect's Guild (tabbing might be wrong, i manually copy-pasted)

e buys and gains a Province.
  e gets +4 Favors. (Guildmaster)
  e spends 2 Favors.
  e gains a Gold.
    e gets +4 Favors. (Guildmaster)
    e spends 2 Favors.
    e gains a Guildmaster.
      e gets +4 Favors. (Guildmaster)
      e spends 2 Favors.
      e gains a Villa.
         e gets +4 Favors. (Guildmaster)
         e puts a Villa into their hand.

this surprises me; the only thing i can think is the word 'revealing' on foray not being literally the word 'reveal', which seems dubious.

I think I've forgotten the lost track rule more times than I've remembered it, and I also think it's changed recently. I get why you can play the Siren before you have to trash it, but I'm surprised that you don't trash it at all (at least, this is the interpretation on Shuffle IT.) Can someone write it out for me? Thanks!

how much would you pay for "pickaxe but you don't gain a loot or play it," i.e. a treasure worth 1 that mandatorily trashes a card?

i don't have anything to add but really appreciated this. it was a huge part of many of our lives. huger than it really should have been, if we had other things to be doing...

Treasurer/Spell Scroll can empty the Treasurer pile in one turn, fun fact.

I just found myself picking Mapmaker over Catacombs with 5. Obviously depends on the kingdom but it seemed like the generically correct choice. Draw 4, pick 2 is pretty strong even without the reaction.

S Tier: Figurehead, Sword
A Tier: Spell Scroll, Jewels, Prize Goat
B Tier: Amphora, Puzzle Box, Staff, Insignia
C Tier: Hammer, Orb, Shield
D Tier: Doubloons, Sextant
F Tier: Endless Chalice

interesting looking back on this. i think i agree if you have ample + buy alread.

It does seem though that on many boards you are just desperate for the loots with +buy, which elevates chalice/sextant/shield/orb in your rankings and downgrades spell scroll/figurehead/insignia. Goat and Hammer are situational. I think Insignia tops my least-likely-to-be-useful list.

turn 3 drew black market and 4 coppers. black market opened to king's court, bishop, and.... patron. so i could afford king's court with the rule change!

What rule change was that?

nervous cause no one knows the rules like you but i thought back in the day that one couldn't spend coffers on black market goods

Shaman makes Monkey even better. The opponent is always gaining a card at beginning of turn (assuming you can trash).

my early reaction was that it was pretty weak, but have noticed if you pick up a couple in the mid-game, it becomes easy to give out several curses per turn in a way that may overwhelm a deck with only light trashing. Reminiscent of Coven or a certain trick of picking up Young Witch late after both players have skipped it.

agree, i guess one point for silver is that it's a hair better as an opener if there is a 5 that must be grabbed before the second shuffle.

I'm wondering why Dark Ages needs a second edition. That feels like a solid set with almost no duds. I'm struggling to think of a single card in the set that feels like it needs replacing actually, despite it being a very large set.
I agree that the set is very solid but there are two outliers: Rebuild and Cultist are ridiculously overpowered.

Urchin is also OP - a very stupid and unfun card, if you ask me. And does anyone actually like the Knights?
