silverspawn, you miss that you cannot play bastard on bastard, which is pretty important.

I haven't really given advice before or really designed cards, so I'm not sure why I'm really giving suggestions, but hey, why not:

Sewer - Sounds really swingy. It should probably discard the bottom card of your deck so that multiple sewers don't all see the same thing.

Secret Keeper - pretty weak. It just is a cantrip that sifts, and there isn't much difference between putting on the bottom and shuffling. I guess it combos with sewer, and in fact that combo may be too strong.

Double agent - This will almost always be awful?

Lordling - Hey, that sounds pretty cool. I like it.

Ancient Amulet - Really similar to jester. Way better than explorer for sure, but that might be okay.

Leap of Faith - from the top of your deck I assume? This sounds like a peddler for $4, as they will choose 1 except when they know that the top of your deck is good. I don't remember what the consensus is on a $4 peddler, was it that it's really strong?

Fence - This is a better opener than chapel, IMO. Just really really good.

Bastard - weird. It actually sounds pretty strong. In some kingdoms it will just be silly, in others it will be a must-buy. Maybe too much so.

Jailer - I like this smithy variant. It might as well be the top of your deck though. Journeyman and Catacombs seem better, but not too much better.

Goko leaked something, that is where the worry would come from. Jay was displeased. But obv. it's good to have the set come out online the same day. And it's hard to say just what the effect of a leak is, especially a late leak like this would presumably be.
Goko leaked something?

General Discussion / Re: Maths thread.

I always feel amazing when I figure out some new (for me) math thing on my own...  I just realized that the derivative of the volume of a sphere is the surface area of the sphere...  I have no idea of the implications, but it's still really cool.
That's true?

Let's see.... 4/3 pi r^3.... 4 pi r^2.

Is 4 pi r^2 the surface area of a sphere? I honestly don't know. If so, that is pretty cool.

Now that I think about it, the same is true for a circle; the derivative of pi r^2 is 2 pi r.

Is it true for an n-sphere? I don't know why you would ever take the derivative of a volume anyway though.

I'm having trouble thinking of a kingdom where you want masterpiece for $3 over silver on turn 1. The idea here is that you are actually playing well, right?

Silver=Curse -- There is a running joke that silver is basically as bad as a curse. It probably began in earnest when SCSN suggested that embassy had an on-gain attack, and is used to varying degrees of seriousness throughout the forum.
I thought it was Gold = Curse

you could play 10 goons on that kingdom
Not realistically, but yes. You could play 20, even.

I told you it was an easy puzzle.

I was expecting Tactician + Necropolis.

Disappointed.
Yeah, I wish it had shelters too.

Most of the reason I posted it was that when I started the game I didn't think triple goons was feasible.  And then suddenly it was. Double tactician is great (and I did play tactician that turn as well).

I really do think there should be a "Best Argument in a Mafia Game" category.
You could say this is covered under best in-game moment, but I'd be happy to see this as its own category. Throwing some more ideas out there:

Best post
Best use of power role
Best claim (fake or real)
Best blitz game/Best RMM game - split into two categories.
Best hammer

This puzzle should be pretty easy. I got a triple goons turn on the following kingdom. How?

Code: [Select]
Forager, Masquerade, Advisor, Procession, Remake, Explorer, Rabble, Tactician, Adventurer, Goons

Stef, why don't you like rats? Processing a rats is better than processing a fortress if you have a fortress in hand because you draw an extra card. The risk with rats is that you draw several without a fortress, however if you're careful I think that can be avoided. Perhaps it would be wise to wait until the third shuffle to get one, but I'm not so sure. The thinning is very nice as well. It also makes an early bishop more reasonable.

I still haven't played this kingdom though...

Processing a Fortress is better than Processing a Rats because it doesn't junk your deck.
It's not junking if you don't mind rats!

Edit: it doesn't draw an extra card actually. It does move a rats to the trash pile though, which is good.

I don't know if love's 12th turn was the right decision:

    love   plays Tactician
love   discards: Fool's Gold, Haggler, Fool's Gold, Fool's Gold

love happens to get a Colony with the following Tactician's turn but at the expense of turning down a Platinum/Province + Gold/$5 action card in the current turn.

No, that's a colony/platinum hand!

Are you sure CR-FG BM doesn't win? I was really disappointed recently when my festival-watchtower engine fell short against it. That was a colony game too.

liopoil   plays Crossroads
liopoil   reveals hand: Duchy, Great Hall, Great Hall, Estate, Stonemason, Estate, Duchy, Outpost, Province, Great Hall, Great Hall, Silver

Easily the most cards I've drawn with crossroads. It could have been even more, but I decided it was better to discard an estate than an outpost or herald to oasis twice earlier in the turn. My final deck had more green than not-green.

This sounds like a simulation competition to me.
That's one complicated strategy. You can handle the first 6 turns, but after that it's way too complex. It can certainly done, it just would take a lot of effort to program.

I can believe that you might not want talisman. I can't believe that you don't want a deck full of rats. I'm pretty sure that the deck that focuses on fortress and procession first with rats and doesn't buy more than 1 or 2 wharves, just gains them through procession will get enough wharves (3-5) to get the necessary draw and buys. It won't be able to get KC for a while if ever, but I'm not sure you need KC because the game will end so fast on rats, wharves, and fortresses (maybe not exactly these piles). The tricky part is getting points, but that isn't so important...

So, Ela and me played this board twice.

First, watch me fail horribly:
Fail

Then, it gets better:
Success

So, this probably wasn't the best play ever, so spam your suggestions ;)
Oh. Heh. So, when I said:

Get a single talisman and rats (not sure which one to get first, probably talisman). Then get procession, then fortress, probably in that order.
What I meant was:

Get a single talisman and rats. THEN GET FORTRESS ASAP.  Then get another fortress if you haven't already. Then get procession and more fortresses. Then get a bishop or two. Then get more fortresses.

It was quite unfortunate that you got a 3/5 split on the second shuffle with talisman in the 5 dollar hand. You really don't want two rats (though taking rats was still the right call there). The big error was when you got procession on your later hand with 4 and a fortress. You need fortresses to prevent rats from decreasing handsize.

Also, wharf is almost strictly better than city. Even once city is double activated, the +2 cards on the next turn is usually better than the +2 actions and the +1 coin. Shanty Town and fortress and procession will give you zillions of actions and you don't need coins.

Oooooor do Bishop-Rats into Bishop-Fortress.  Infini-points.
You lose when the procession player gets bishops and catches up in points.

Anyone want to play this kingdom?

Sure, if you have the cards.
nope, no cards.
