Puzzles and Challenges / Most Actions possible
« on: May 14, 2013, 08:07:24 pm »
Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but what is the most actions that you can have at once in a solitaire game?  I don't want to try it so that's why I'm putting it here.

General Discussion / Voice range
« on: May 07, 2013, 10:18:24 pm »
Basically, for those of you who know it, what voice range/type of voice (I don't know which term it is...) you have (out of bass, baritone, and tenor (and for the few girls out there, alto, mezzo-soprano, and soprano)).  I'm a bass.

General Discussion / Explain your profile
« on: April 30, 2013, 10:30:11 pm »
I've had people ask me and have wondered about things on profiles, so I thought I'd start a topic about explaining your profile.

My name is pronounced "SOO-jee" (as my personal text says).  I know it defies the English language.  Oh well.

My avatar is a dango.  While it's a Japanese snack, the way I know it from is from the anime Clannad, the best tv show ever (ask Kooshie, she agrees).

My signature has a link to a song about dangos, "dango daikazoku" (Big Dango Family), from Clannad.  It also has all the mafia games I've completed, with what roles I got and whether I won or not too.

Game Reports / That one estate...
« on: April 19, 2013, 02:39:34 pm »
(This was a rl game)

Notable kingdom cards: Duke, Duchess, Conspirator, Scheme, Morgrim (Haggler), Inn, Masquerade

My brother went for the Dukes (with the Duchess) and I thought with the Schemes, the Haggler for faster card gaining, and the Masquerade for trashing (with the Inn for the +2 Actions), I could set up a pretty reliable Conspirator engine and get all eight provinces before he got too many Dukes/Duchies (I didn't feel like going Duchy/Duke, I had just done it a couple games before).  I set it up pretty quickly, used the schemes to make sure I always started being able to set off the conspirators.  The Masquerade of course was passing random Estates and Coppers, and I was trashing every time with it.  I was preparing a little more than usual because I had to get all eight Provinces, then realized that with the Haggler and the trashing, I could still go fine after greening.  On the last turn I still played the Masquerade, and we both passed a Copper.  When I bought the last Province, he said he had an Estate in his hand that he didn't pass me with the Masquerade (and he almost did).  Then he won by one point...

I was thinking recently, sometimes when I have just a Smithy I'm afraid to play it in fear that I'll draw dead actions.  But, now that I think about it, unless you have a special action card in your deck, you should usually play the Smithy.  You might get a bit more coins, and it will increase cycling.  Has anybody else thought about this?

Game Reports / Silk Road
« on: April 03, 2013, 12:59:35 am »
I just played one of my first Silk Road games, and me and my brother went for them.  I started getting them sooner than he did, and got a fair amount.  My dad was just getting random actions.  The game was close to three-piling, and my dad was saying he wasn't sure if he was beating my brother (not even thinking about them).  I ended the game, my brother had 26 points, my dad 36, and I had 63.  I had eight silk roads worth five each...

Kind of inspired by the 1d1000 thread (in that people were just spamming it a whole bunch) and a facebook picture I saw, you need to try to post five posts in a row, each with at least 15 (actual) words, and all different.  If you manage to post five posts without getting interrupted, you win.  I don't know how many people will try to do it here, so it may work well, it may not.  It will start in one hour from now (so that a lot of people will see it  before it starts).

EDIT: A few rules clarifications...

You must physically type the words in here.  No going into notepad, copying and pasting, etc.

They do not need to be complete sentences, just actual words.

Being interrupted includes posts not 15 words long.

General Discussion / Goodbye until Easter
« on: February 11, 2013, 07:07:54 pm »
(I'm not putting this in the religion, sex, and politics forum because the religious things I mention aren't meant to be for discussion.  If you guys think it should go there, then it can be moved.)

There's a Christian "season" from Ash Wednesday (this Wednesday) to Easter called Lent where you're supposed to fast from something and spend more time praying.  I'm a Christian, and I decided I'm giving up dominion this year.  So, no playing, no posting on the forums, etc.  I will still play mafia on here as that's not related to dominion.  I'll start this Wednesday night after a church service that my church has.  Lent doesn't include Sundays so I'll come on here every Sunday still.

General Discussion / TV marathons
« on: February 10, 2013, 04:43:27 pm »
Have any of you ever done one?  I've been in a Lord of the Rings marathon and I just watched an entire TV show with my friend yesterday (we watch a bit the day before too, for a total of 17 1/2 hours).  And of course now I can't stop thinking about that show now.

Dominion General Discussion / A few random tactical questions
« on: February 05, 2013, 12:48:36 am »
I've just gotten a few ideas over a while that I'm not sure about...  I know that these all depend on the kingdom and your deck, but when would you do certain things?

Ambassador 2 curses or trash three?

When do you want to trash feodum? (obviously, trader would most of the time be a good idea, but I'm talking about other situations)

And there was another one I had in mind but forgot...  I'll just say it when I remember.

General Discussion / Anybody played cut-throat mafia?
« on: February 01, 2013, 04:22:00 pm »
If you haven't played it, it's kind of like mafia but the night consists of everyone walking around, and the mafia try to kill people by "slitting their throats," and then the person who died lies down.  When someone finds a dead body, they can gather everybody up, and it's day and works like day in normal mafia.  I was thinking some might have heard of it with how many people play mafia here.

Dominion Isotropic / Young witch using a prohibited card as the bane
« on: January 27, 2013, 04:26:35 pm »
I only play with cards I own irl, and so right now that's no hinterlands and no promos.  I set that when playing online, and the young witch was a card in one game.  And the duchess was the bane.  When it's in hinterlands...

I don't know if this will get fixed with goko coming, but just thought I should mention it.

Simulation / Learning AI?
« on: January 24, 2013, 03:04:22 pm »
I've heard of this proposed for a few other games, so I was wondering if anybody has even had the idea for this.  Has anybody thought of making an AI for dominion that would learn better strategy just playing the game?  for instance, it would go for a bad strategy, realize it was bad, and not do it again.

General Discussion / Prosperity doesn't like me
« on: January 23, 2013, 09:14:10 pm »
Well, that was definitely the hardest time I've had getting a package in the mail.  I bought prosperity a while ago, and I got conditioner instead.  I bought it again (after returning the conditioner) and it never came.  On Thursday or Friday, I called the post office (who had it) and they said they never got it.  Due to policy, they had to wait until 8 days after they were supposed to get the package before looking for it.  That would be Sunday (two days ago).  They had to wait till after that day, which was Monday.  But it was a holiday, so they weren't open.  I called them yesterday, they said they would look for it and call me within 24 hours.  They didn't call, so I called them today.  They said they still didn't know where it was.  Then it came in the mail.

Game Reports / Feedback on games
« on: January 16, 2013, 01:11:54 am »
(I don't know if this should be in this thread, I'll post it here and if it should be somewhere else it can go there.  I was thinking maybe just the general discussion)

I'm wanting to get better at the game, and despite countless hours spent reading things on this site and a lot of games, I'm still not getting much better...

I was thinking of posting all my isotropic games here (I only play a couple times a day online (well, usually)) and getting feedback on them (If you guys don't think it's a good idea for some reason, I can stop).

Also, I only have the base game and the first three expansions (I'm getting the next two soon) irl, so I only play with those cards online.

I'll wait for feedback on the idea before posting game logs.

Dominion General Discussion / How much of dominion skill is luck?
« on: January 13, 2013, 01:34:40 am »
(I have a feeling this would have been discussed before, but oh well)

I was wondering about this when me and my brother were playing and he would get mad when I got a gold on turn 3 or 4, blaming the luck.  So basically, just how much of dominion ability would you say is luck?

Dominion General Discussion / Library/Scrying Pool
« on: January 10, 2013, 02:34:57 pm »
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this before, but I just realized how great of a combo this is...  If you manage to have +2 actions without getting you handsize too big with a library in your hand in a scrying pool engine, just play the library and set aside all the action cards you get, and you clean your deck of a lot of non-actions so that you pick up more cards with the scrying pool.

Game Reports / First try at Bridge/Native Village
« on: January 08, 2013, 05:22:47 pm »
I was just playing and saw the bridge and the native village.  I've never tried the combo before, so I thought I would give it a try.  At turn 11 I was frustrated to realize that all my income was in the native village mat, so I drew it all back.

Suddenly, my opponent possesses me and pulls off the combo, and wins.

Puzzles and Challenges / A random challenge
« on: January 06, 2013, 01:58:08 am »
You have as many actions as you want.  You have an apprentice, pearl diver, and ironworks in your hand.  You have 3 silvers and a copper in your discard.  The kingdom is Chapel, Pearl Diver, Wishing Well, Ambassador, Ironworks,  Council Room, Duke, Apprentice, Golem, and Possession.  Assuming perfect shuffle luck, how can you get a province this turn?

EDIT:  There are no other cards in your deck and discard, just those three silvers and the copper.  Also, if you possess your opponents hand, that counts as the end of your turn, so if you haven't gotten the province by that point it doesn't count.

Dominion General Discussion / So I got Prosperity...
« on: January 05, 2013, 05:39:17 pm »
I've been rapidly getting all of the expansions, and I recently ordered Prosperity online.  Yesterday, the package came, and it was a bottle of women's conditioner...  I called, and they said they were sorry for the mistake, they gave me a refund, etc.

Introductions / I didn't even notice this place...
« on: January 01, 2013, 10:39:34 pm »
I didn't even notice the Introductions section (if it's called that?) so yeah, I'm sudgy.  I've already posted a few random things, and I'll probably play mafia when I have the time.  So uh... Yeah...  I can't think of anything else to say...

Game Reports / Possession game
« on: December 27, 2012, 04:19:31 pm »
I was playing a game recently irl, and it was my opponent's first time playing with possession.  They decided that their goal that game would be to possess me at some point.  I started buying provinces while they weren't able to do anything, I even got a possession and possessed her a couple times, and she finally bought a possession.  Later, she hadn't gotten to it yet, there was one province left, and I possessed her.  She had a gold, a silver, a treasury, and two junk cards.  I had her play the treasury, and drew a golem.  I played the golem and it took a possession (and she was like "YEEESSSS!!!!!") and an embargo.  With the embargo, I bought the last province, ending the game.  She wasn't too happy...

Game Reports / Baron Engine
« on: December 26, 2012, 08:30:36 pm »
(sorry, this was irl, no game log)

Technically it wasn't a baron engine, but they were one of the main cards.  Me and my brother got Seaside and Alchemy for Christmas (we will catch up!) and while playing the last preset I saw the scrying pool.  I looked around for virtual coins, and the only thing I saw was the baron.  I bought several scrying pools, traded (with the trading post, not the trader) and apprenticed all my coppers, bought four barons, three nobles for their +2 actions, and an estate (and several wishing wells when I didn't have anything else better).  It took a bit to set up, but as this was our first game with the set my opponent wasn't doing some amazing strategy so I managed to kick into high gear, and I managed to draw my whole deck once and buy two provinces.  I think I like the baron a lot more than I used to now...

Dominion General Discussion / Third-time player wins
« on: December 24, 2012, 01:57:57 am »
We have a foreign exchange student at my family's house, so he doesn't know English very well.  He would see me and my family playing Dominion, we would ask him if he wanted to play, he said that "it was impossible for him to learn the game."  One time he finally decided to play, we played the first game set (with other first-timers) and he got second place.  Later we play with the Big Money set, he had already caught on to (kind of) the importance of trashing, so he kept his own against us with our chapels.

Then, on his third game, completely on his own, he went for a festival/council room engine (with a militia to make us discard all of our cards we got from the council rooms he played) and completely crushed us.  He even bought three provinces on one turn.  Has this ever happened before?

Also, as for how good at the game I am, while I'm not the best at the game, I'm still fairly good (my low isotropic level is from not playing that much, I like playing irl better).  He shot up in skill fast.
