I like both Borrow and Alms a lot more than where they showed up, but they are both REALLY hard to rate properly.  Like, you're probably going to use them at some point in 95% of games they are in.  That is pretty significant!  But how important are they going to be in those games?  Alms I think often will be pretty relevant, while Borrow is less so.  Hard to say where exactly they should lie versus cards you're adding to your deck.

Well, only one card outside of my bottom 11 made it into this list, and it was at #21.  I had Haven down there, which while not a bad card, is generally inconsequential in my opinion.  Beggar might be weak a lot of the time, but has a lot of value in certain strategies (especially with some Alt VP).  I guess it comes down to what people think is the better card: one that's not often good but can be really strong, or one that is never great but can often provide some small value.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: Improving Online Dominion
« on: October 19, 2015, 01:59:59 pm »
I think you make a lot of very valid points about the fact that MF is who we've got, and if we love Dominion enough (as most of us do), finding constructive ways to approach the problems with the latest version are the best way to go.

However, I don't see how taking steps to make the game a more pleasant experience (with either the original Salavger or SCSN's .dll removing of animations) is not a constructive approach.  Complaining about MF being terrible?  Yeah, that gets us nowhere.  But the popularity of the original Salavger and its features directly influenced things that were done in 2.0 - just look at the in-game log.  I think the most proactive thing anyone can do is to say "this is not good enough, and I'm taking it into my own hands."  That tells the developers how many people are dissatisfied with the problems and to what extent people are willing to do something about it.

What confuses me about your complaints is that this hardly seems different than the original Salvager in terms of its scope, and you didn't seem to have any problems with that fan-made extension to the original software.  You're entitled to your opinion, but I don't see any difference, nor any real way in which it is more harmful.

Also, so this doesn't seem personal, as I post here like twice a year, I want to commend you for your contributions to the community!  Your streams and League championship commentary are excellent, and you are a great ambassador for Dominion!  I think it would do everyone well to look more toward a common goal of improving the online experience (which I'm sure everyone can agree on) and get past this in-fighting over how much everything sucks.

Seaside has a lot of really beautiful art; that should be a fun list to make (after Navigator).  Intrigue is definitely hit or miss, but some of the top cards (Courtyard, Mining Village) are some of my favorites from all of Dominion.

I think getting some extra dice is pretty key early on, thus my favorite starting faction is the one with the purple and red dice (and the yellow world).  The alien explorer to $4 development faction is really good too, especially in 2P.

The start worlds are all comparable enough, except I think Doomed World is kind of weak.   The $8 rarely goes far enough to make up for the lack of a die.

Lost 3.5-1.5 against Indur.  I made a huge mistake in Game 3, but I think I was generally a little outplayed in the close matches.

Game 1: L, 21-44
http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130907/log.5064086b0cf20d995bd2b5eb.1378560474923.txt
I'm still not sure the best way to get the Mercenaries going here, since they seem to be pretty good.  Too many Shanty Towns, and I couldn't line up my Mercenary with cards I wanted to trash and got behind.  I had to gamble on the big turn after I was down, but it was never going to happen.

Game 2: L, 31-39
http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130907/log.5064086b0cf20d995bd2b5eb.1378560891131.txt
Embassy Big Money.  Not sure if there was much I could do here, his 5-2 was helpful and as he said, 2nd Embassy couldn't catch up to all the early Golds.

Game 3: 27-27 Tie
http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130907/log.5064086b0cf20d995bd2b5eb.1378561325539.txt
Argh.  Opened with Masquerade because Masq BM just seemed like the thing to do on this board.  I got a little lucky with Chapel, and managed to get into a solid position with early Provinces.  Last hand I had 8 money + Duchy + Province after playing Masq, and stupidly miscalculated that I'd still win if I passed my Duchy.  Pretty awful mistake, and I end up drawing the game instead what should've been a win.

Game 4: W, 51-48
http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130907/log.5064086b0cf20d995bd2b5eb.1378562349551.txt
Pretty happy about this one, I thought I'd have enough time to play catch up to a Big Money deck with the Gardens potential.  Band of Misfits is weird here, I can only play it as 2 terminals but its versatility as either a timely Jack, Nomad Camp, or Armory is not too shabby.  Bunches of Stables and Cartographers let me dig through my deck, and I end up sneaking out a win that I'm not sure if I deserved, but I'm happy to at least get a win.

Game 5: L, 42-59
http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130907/log.5064086b0cf20d995bd2b5eb.1378563259628.txt
No +buy makes me question the viability of Scrying Pools, so I go for a pretty heavy money/Nobles thing.  But Stonemasoning Golds gained via Tunnel is a pretty awesome way to get points, and just catches up to my mediocre BM too fast.  Interesting board - Stonemason is always a challenging card to use optimally.

Thanks for the good games!

Maybe a little unlucky in one or two spots here, but generally outplayed by a very good player.  Kudos to Eliegel for waiting for me as I was a little late, and best of luck to him the rest of the way!

Thanks to AHoppy for being a good sport.  I think I got a little lucky in what were pretty evenly matched games.  Although I could've won it in Game 2 (got confused on the final turn and ended up taking a draw), I think I stole that one a little bit after getting crushed on the curses.

I'd be interested in joining, if there's still room.  Got all sets + Black Market :)

Menagerie, Fairgrounds, Vineyard: all cards that add a unique mechanic to the game.  Fairgrounds is probably the least interesting of the three, but when it's something you can go for, the choice and challenge of making a deck with 15 (20?) different cards is a cool dynamic to the game.

I will also second Watchtower, which has probably gotten more and more interesting with each expansion.

Also, I enjoy pretty much any trash-for-benefit card, with my favorites being Apprentice and Salvager.  Fortress is always cool when it can be used for neat or unexpected combos.

And I have to include my favorite cards: Scrying Pool and Goons, which create pretty unique and awesome games.  Unless someone gets to 6 early and runs away with the lead!

I'm in the same boat as math.  Love Power Grid, but haven't played it nearly enough.  Hard to get 4+ people together for a lengthy game sometimes.  Loving the content so far though!

Watching game #1, you're calling produce way too much against an opponent with much better production than you, and not trading nearly enough.  As Alpha Centauri in 2P (non-advanced), I can't imagine doing anything other than trading first unless you have an awesome card you must immediately play (which you didn't). In the end, I think your cards synergized better and you should have won, but you treaded water too much early on instead of pushing your advantage by calling unnecessary Produces and Explores to help him make use of his start world and build a Produce/Consume tableau.

(Very amateur analysis here, sorry if this is not too helpful!)

Lost 4-3-2 to zaubererer. I think my isotropic inexperience got the better of me as I made a notable misclick, some stupid choices, and some novice mistakes throughout.  Though I somehow managed to get my best wins with alt VP, usually one of my weakest areas when I play in-person!

Game 1 (zaubererer 39 - SirSlugma 34): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/10/game-20121210-130442-f97c7398.html
Pretty similar strategies here, not sure if my Crossroads were ever worth it.  I think the lack of worthwhile cards at $5 made his early Talisman a good call.

Game 2 (SirSlugma 39 - zaubererer 39): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/10/game-20121210-131934-5b17f2d2.html
Wharf-FG mirror.  First player advantage helped me take the lead here, though the Bazaar was a poor choice.  Turn 7 could've been double Fool's Gold, but my inexperience with FG caused me to ignore that option until after I had already made the purchase.  Oops.

Game 3 (zaubererer 52 - SirSlugma 52): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/10/game-20121210-132952-14433dca.html
Hunting Party with Colonies.  Thought Chancellor worked better than his Crossroads, and allowed me to catch up to him despite his 5/2 start and more HPs.  I took the draw when I had the chance.

Game 4 (SirSlugma 59 - zaubererer 42): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/10/game-20121210-133732-a7abe519.html
DoubleJack game, thought I played this decently well though I'm not sure I should've ever trashed my last Estate turn 14.  I suppose it worked out for me anyway.

Game 5 (zaubererer 27 - SirSlugma 21): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/10/game-20121210-134844-d796b2cb.html
I stupidly went after Scrying Pool without even looking at the board.  I think I should've been crushed but somehow managed to hang around for a while.  I think I blew it turn 16, where I had a lead and went after the Ironworks to try to end the game rather than taking a Duchy for points.

Game 6 (SirSlugma 44 - zaubererer 42): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/10/game-20121210-135616-a2aad727.html
Gardens vs...Haggler-BM?  I think I got fairly fortunate with Swindler and I gambled a little bit going after the Gardens.  I probably hit them too hard and too soon, but winning the split 8-0 is pretty strong in any situation.

Game 7 (zaubererer 42 - SirSlugma 17): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/10/game-20121210-140618-cc31b3ef.html
Ambassador war, got creamed and had no chance to catch up.  I'm curious if there's something I could've done here to have not gotten stomped or if I was doomed by the luck of the game.  I feel like if I kept it simple with Envoy BM or something I would've gotten crushed by estates and curses by his slimmed deck.

Game 8 (SirSlugma 50 - zaubererer 38): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/10/game-20121210-141630-095daec5.html
Vineyards vs. IGG rush.  I feel like Mountebank and Familiar weakened the strength of the IGG rush, so I went for an early Familiar and hoped to transition into Ironworks/Vineyards, which worked quite well.  I didn't balance the Potions quite right, but I thought my strategy was sound.  This was a fun one.

Game 9 (zaubererer 38 - SirSlugma 24): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/10/game-20121210-142320-052f63af.html
Wharf-FG mirror. (again)  zaubererer had 5/2 and I was pretty much done there.  YW was probably a mistake but I felt like I needed to gamble to have any chance of catching up.
