Dominion League / Re: Season 31 - Signups
« on: November 28, 2018, 01:20:12 am »
We decided to require Discord after receiving numerous complaints from players in the League that their opponents who weren't on Discord were difficult to get in contact with. Real-time communication is much easier for scheduling purposes than asynchronous messaging.
Of course it is. But you don't get real-time communication just by installing Discord. You get it from installing Discord and being online most of the time, which means either spending a lot of time with the PC/laptop where you can install Discord or having a portable device in your pocket which supports Discord. Neither of which is true for me.

So, to get to the real case. I work on my employer's PC and Discord is blocked there (haven't checked, but they block Gmail, Facebook and all similar things so I guess Discord too). My mobile phone is not a smartphone and there is no Discord app for it. When I'm home and not sleeping (which is approx 1-2 hours in the morning and anything from 8 to 1 hour in the evening, depending if I go somewhere after work or not) I get online regularly, but only checking every 20-30 minutes unless I am doing something which requires sitting at the computer, so no real time communication. With this lifestyle I have played in multiple online tournaments which required scheduling (mostly Netrunner), including some where most of my opponents were right at the end of the world from my point of view (Europe vs Australia) - I communicated with them via pm, we found good time to play, I sometimes needed to reorganize my day a bit and the game happened. Do you think this availability is enough to take part in the Dominion League?

Starting this season, we are requiring all new and returning players to join the Dominion Discord before signing up.

Quote from: FAQ
Is the use of Discord necessary?

Though we heavily recommend the use of Discord, it is not necessary to do so in order to participate in the League.
So, is it still not necessary, or is the FAQ outdated? Thought about joining, but having to install new chatting app on my old computer is not something I want to do, especially as I don't enjoy using such apps, I'm not online all/most of the time so it's hard for me to follow the kind of discussion that happens there.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Dominion t-shirts available
« on: April 07, 2016, 05:21:38 pm »
You can have whatever sign you want at the bottom of the back of the t-shirt. Your name, nickname, something else (I guess there might be problems if you want to use some exotic language font). Or you can choose to have nothing at all in this place so you see more of the picture.

Nothing for me there. I don't know if I'll do this or not. Depends on how many people want a shirt in the US, to lower costs.
I'd be interested but only if we could get the cost down to $20 at most. I guess that would mean getting an order for several people in the US at once.

I am US and interested at about the same price, but don't understand what the logistics would be once it got to the US? Ship to one person and then that person reships to everyone else?

I guess I could volunteer to potentially do that but it kinda seems like a logistical nightmare.
That's the best way unless you can find several people interested within the same city.

At current rates (1 USD = 3.78 PLN), sending 7 in one package gives $25ish a piece for t-shirt and international shipping.

Expected delivery (for Intrigue, Seaside and Prosperity) is June 2016. Last year they released Base Set, expected to deliver in August and sent everything late in July, (and generally their projects ship on time) so I wouldn't expect big delays.
Awesome!  Are you going to be ordering a copy?  If yes, could you possibly put up Polish translations up on the wiki?
Yes, I have all of them (Base + 3 expansions) ordered and will scan the cards once I have them.

Finding other people from the same country should be a good way to get the shipping costs down - it's the international shipping part that makes this expensive.

Never thought it is going to be so hard to find out how much a t-shirt weighs, guys running the campaign contacted company which will be doing those but even this didn't help. So I had to do some experimenting with scales.

My estimates of shipping cost (I tried to stay on the safe side, once I ship and know the final costs, I will be returning any excess cash to you):
Europe:
- single t-shirt PLN 40
- 2 or 3 PLN 47
- 4 or 5 PLN 54
- 6 or 7 PLN 61
Outside of Europe
- single t-shirt PLN 45
- 2 or 3 PLN 52
- 4 or 5 PLN 59
- 6 or 7 PLN 66

If you want 8 or more please contact me.

All will be shipped with tracking. To save weight, I will be removing original packaging and repacking into something that makes more sense for international shipping.

Please see top post for how the t-shirts are planned to look. Please order here, telling me the size (available: unisex S-XXL, ladies S-L), picture and what sign do you want on the back of each of them (if any). I will contact everyone with my PayPal details. Cash needs to be on my PayPal 3 weeks from now - on Monday April 25th. Expected shipping: July 2016.

Good news:
- the campaign is currently nearly 200% funded,
- I have confirmed with campaign organizers that there are no copyright or other issues with sending those t-shirts abroad.

I am now researching shipping options to keep the costs down. Should get back to you next week with details, leaving well over a month for you to choose which one(s) you want to get.

What does 'napis' mean?

I googled it, it means 'inscription.' Do you know whether or not it says napis on the shirts?
This is a placeholder showing where your name/nickname/whatever you want to have there will go (you can also choose to have nothing there).

*** See Reply #12 for shipping costs, you can order those now ***

Polish company Games Factory Publishing has started crowdfunding campaing for Polish translations of Intrigue, Seaside and Prosperity. After 8 hours the campaign is 94% funded, so it will definitely end with success. You can view the campaign here: https://wspieram.to/dominiondodatki (Polish language only)

The stretch goals are new box cover art. As an add-on, you can buy t-shirts with this art (4 designs available, core set and 3 expansions available in campaign). You can view the designs here: http://serwer1605097.home.pl/images/DD_Dodatki.jpg - I guess some of you may be interested in those. Front has only the picture, on the back there's also Dominion logo and place where you can add your name (or remove this sign altogether to make the art more visible).

The t-shirts cost 85 PLN (around €20), you can order them only to Poland, but if there are people here who would like them, I can take care of forwarding them to your place (shipping should cost around 10-12€ for one or several of those). Let me know if people are interested, if yes, I'll check the details and will get back to you next week.

Due to starting a new job and having way less free time for playing I have to sign out from this season and further ones. I haven't played any games yet. I have already informed my group in the scheduling thread. Sorry for trouble, good luck to remaining participants, maybe I'll be back someday.

Would prefer to play games late at night, like as close to midnight as possible, or even later.
This is best achieved by signing up with a "fake" time zone. I guess for most people their preferred time frame for playing is around 8 pm to 11 pm, it seems yours is approx 3 hours off so you should sign up using Pacific time, then you'd end up in a league together with people from West Coast so your preferred after midnight time will be evening at their place and they should be fine playing you then.

At least for D hired goons need to wait a week more as the season is longer here due to more players per group.

My group (D7) has a player with 2 out of 6 matches played (I played him, it took us two sessions with 3 weeks separating them, but this was my fault, not his). Other than that, there is one unplayed match and it is scheduled for tomorrow. I don't know if the player with 4 matches remaining is going to play them, but it is definitely possible (I played most of my games during week one, including a day with 3 matches, I have to admit now it was a bit crazy and probably hurt my performance, but it's possible to get lots of games in a short period of time).

Village Idiot of course died because in multiples it locks you out of the game.
It could have a safety clause like Pillage and not affect players with already small hand, what was the reason against this?

Dominion League / Season one - Game reports & discussion: D

My match against pst

hsiale - pst 4-2

Game 1

Code: [Select]
Moat, Smugglers, Familiar, Herald, Monument, Plaza, Counting House, Embassy, Festival, Rebuildhttp://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20140519/log.50893139a2e67cff211cd7e5.1400519153202.txt

I don't like the start: pst gets 5/2 and opens Moat/Rebuild, while I need to open Monument/Silver. But I get a great 2nd shuffle (getting Rebuild turn 3 and 4) and his Smugglers bought on turn 3 give him only another Smugglers instead of something more useful. After my turn 8 Duchies are gone and split 4-4, but I am left with only one Estate and have Monument, he is left with two Estates. Also at that time I already have 3 Rebuilds while he still has only one, this together with VP chips allows me to get a good lead so I can finish the game by trashing Provinces into new ones. 1-0

Game 2

Code: [Select]
Chapel, Embargo, Doctor, Oracle, Fortress, Smithy, Graverobber, Tribute, Upgrade, Haremhttp://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20140519/log.50893139a2e67cff211cd7e5.1400519815200.txt

He trashes way better, I mess up my engine building, his Tribute works great on my Harem. The game takes long, I strongly suspect Smithy BM would win against either of our strategies. I fail to get $8 multiple times and finally he takes the last Province and wins. 1-1

Game 3

Code: [Select]
Fool's Gold, Moat, Sage, Armory, Gardens, Pirate Ship, Bazaar, Cultist, Margrave, Goons
http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20140519/log.50893139a2e67cff211cd7e5.1400520529048.txt
Goons, Cultist, Margrave so this is going to be quite aggressive game. We both get Goons turn 3. I don't understand his Armory buy turn 5 - I don't feel gaining lots of Sages is going to be so important here. We're building towards more Goons, he gets Copper on Goons play straight away (probably expecting Sage to skip it), I get a Cultist to junk him and try to avoid extra Copper. He gets ahead, while I still build, then turns 15-17 I get Province, Estate and 3 Gardens to get the lead while still having a smaller deck. After this I can maintain the lead while closing the game. 2-1

Game 4

Code: [Select]
Death Cart, Talisman, Cartographer, Cultist, Inn, Journeyman, Merchant Ship, Mountebank, Saboteur, Peddlerhttp://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20140519/log.50893139a2e67cff211cd7e5.1400521474234.txt

I open Silver/Silver to go for $5 cards, he opens Silver/Talisman and gets multiple Death Carts with it, emptying the Ruins (which makes my Mountebank or Cultist choice easy). I curse him a lot while his Death Carts slowly clean his deck of Ruins. I get some good turns due to Inn buys just before shuffles, but in the end take way too long to close the game, his Death Carts start working, but luckily I finally manage to empty Duchies before he gets enough Colonies to get ahead. 3-1

Game 5

Code: [Select]
Native Village, Cutpurse, Rats, Silk Road, Trader, Count, Vault, Border Village, Goons, Possessionhttp://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20140519/log.50893139a2e67cff211cd7e5.1400522483721.txt

We both go for Native Village/Goons with Cutpurse support, the difference being he adding Vaults which I ignore as I feel they work against both attacks. Once I feel my deck works decently, I start greening by buying Estates and Silk Roads, emptying those piles to get a big lead before he can buy Colonies regularly and end the game (NVs were gone very quickly). 4-1

Game 6

Code: [Select]
Transmute, Shanty Town, Armory, Farming Village, Remake, Salvager, Bandit Camp, City, Harvest, Treasuryhttp://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20140519/log.50893139a2e67cff211cd7e5.1400522808601.txt

I though Remake will allow me to trash quickly and use Spoils the turn I gain them. It turned out this wasn't the case, he got a quick lead and due to having Salvager could trash Provinces to close the game before I could do anything. 4-2

Thanks for the games pst, if you want, it would be interesting to read how they looked from your point of view.

I guess they wanted to make something similar to Catan World (which was their take on Settlers of Catan, probably Settlers' publisher didn't stop them and what they created was awful even compared to Settlers).

LCG General Discussion / Re: Quantifying the power of ICE
« on: April 28, 2014, 05:03:02 am »
how taxing ICE is in relation to its cost, how scary it is, and how easy it is to get through, which I think together account for almost all of the attributes of ICE
I think this isn't possible to be put into a formula.

OK, more serious now. I understand what you're trying to do is a formula that takes a piece of ICE and values it to decide what is best. This may have some uses, but will definitely not lead to a single ranking.

The first problem is that, to make a single ranking, you need to assign some weights to "tax factor", "kill factor" and "end the run factor". And those are completely arbitrary. What ICE you want depends very much on what your corp deck wants to achieve. As an example, those are ICE compositions of two corp decks I currently play the most:
- Ice Wall x3, Wall of Static x3, Quandary x2, Enigma x2, Rototurret x2, Grim x2, Archer x3, Chimera x2 (19 in total),
- Wraparound x3, Eli 1.0 x3, Pop-up Window x3, RSVP x2, Tollbooth x2, Caduceus x3, Draco x2 (18 in total)

The first is for a rig destruction Weyland deck (running Power Shutdown, Corporate Troubleshooter and Aggressive Secretary), which does not care about "tax factor" at all (it gives bad publicity right and left) and only cares about "kill factor" as long as it is "kill the Corroder factor". On the other hand "end the run" factor is extremally important and 17/19 pieces of ICE have hard ETR, forcing breakers on the table so I can trash them. The other is completely different. It comes from a taxing NBN deck, running SanSan City Grid, Ash 2X3ZB9CY, mixed asset/operation economy and NAPD Contract. Here I don't care too much about the runner getting in, as long as he is too poor to do anything important in the server, so only 5/18 ice are hard ETR, and it's not their most important part. Moving ICE from one deck to another would clearly weaken it, no matter which direction. They simply need different things.

The other problem is that while the three factors you mentioned, while they're quite important, are not all. And those other things affect deckbuilding choices a lot. For example Wotan is weakened by the fact it's unique. Paper Wall is weakened by self-trashing when broken. Wraparound is a cheap barrier but also an Atman/Parasite hate card. Big ice in general needs stronger effect than it should have according to any formula because it's vulnerable to derezzing effects and mostly useless early game when no corp can afford rezzing it other than via various tricks (which make it even more vulnerable to being killed in one or another way). RSVP is another example that escapes from your 3 factors - it doesn't tax (in fact it prevents taxing), it doesn't stop, it's scary only in some exotic combos (e.g. Whirlpool into RSVP into Shinobi) - but it's definitely playable in right decks.

While I'd love to see a Connor/McEnroe style tiebreaker set, especially if it's streamed, I don't really expect any pairing to take option (2).
Maybe even a Mahut-Isner style one?
